    I love to mix yogurt (all flavors) with cottage cheese. It ups the Protein but it’s really good. You can also add some sugar free yellow or pudding mix (powdered) I love it with pepper and I eat green onions with it like you would a carrot but I can’t eat those right now.

  3. Haha yeah I felt that way in the beginning but just remember the full liquids are still liquids.. pudding, jello, drinkable yogurt (yogurt with milk added), etc.. I found pudding to be super delicious and filling and went down nicely and gave me a “liquid” that I could feel was like a food since I’m eating it with a spoon. Much of this is trial and error. It gets easier

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

    I tried that BEFORE I contacted my nutritionist and told her so. I tried everything in Nov and Dec. Didn't up it by much, but I was around 1000 a day. Tried more, tried less, etc. She said based on my food logs it just seemed that I was being very inconstant with my protein and carbs. I was also logging net carbs and she wanted me to log total and keep it around 50 but definitely not more than 75. And that's not been a problem. Neither has keeping my cals around 800. I don't feel hungry. Occasionally some days I do feel like I need a lil more and so I have something like a low fat yogurt tube, cheese, or turkey pepperoni, a few whole wheat crackers.....stuff like that. It's usually on days I did more exercise or when my period comes around (or at least it did last month).

    when I get chocolate cravings, I sometimes mix a teaspoon or two of unsweetened cocoa powder into a thing of vanilla Light & Fit (or Carbmaster - or another low-cal Greek yogurt). And occasionally I'll even top that with a couple tablespoons of light or sugar free Cool Whip and a few raspberries. My version of a sundae...
  6. The biggest misunderstanding is you don’t need 64oz of “water”, you need 64oz of fluid. Fluid includes full liquids too like jello, broth, sugar free pudding, water, protein shakes, drinkable yogurt (yogurt with milk added), etc. As for the protein if you add two scoops of Genepro to a 16.9 oz water bottle that’s 60 grams in itself. Sip that bottle throughout the day and you’ll get 60 grams from that & then get your extra 20+ protein from foods like eggs, beans, ricotta, yogurt, meats, etc. Hope this helps!
  7. My plan said it was okay to have "planned" snacks, but NO grazing. So, don't take all morning to eat your breakfast because you will be able to eat more if you eat it over more than 30-60 minutes as it will pass through your stomach. Personally, I am hungry all the time but I can't eat much at once, so I have to have snacks between my meals. Also, for exercise, consider swimming or weight training/exercise bands. They may not hurt your hips like walking. If you are not someone who can eat "just a little" sweets, probably the best thing to do is cut them out completely. I don't have a problem with artificial sugar, but some people find it makes their sugar cravings worse. For me, it can satisfy my sweet tooth (like sugar free hot cocoa - swiss miss with high protein milk instead of water). For high protein snacks, you have the right direction with Greek Yogurt (although many brands have lots of added sugar, so try to find ones with no added sugar), but what about cheese, or deli meat (I like deli meat with hummus on it). Hard boiled eggs are also good with hummus. I like adding some heated up frozen strawberries (no sugar added) and some chia seeds to my Light and Fit Greek Yogurt .

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    Hello WSLers Long time listener, first time caller. I was sleeved on 11/22/21. I had lost over 40lbs since my surgery, but now seem to be gaining a pound a day the last few days. My diet has remained the same, 1-2 Premiere Protein shakes, 5 oz of non/low fat yogurt, and 4 bites of misc protein from dinner. Getting 64 oz or more of water has been brutal. Any ideas on the weight gain? It's really screwing with my head. Walking (exercise) has been limited, since I am currently experiencing my fourth gout attack since my surgery. I've been taking 600mg Allopurinol daily and 0.6mg of Colchicine during flare ups. It's been brutal. I have not had an attack in a while. Regards Dan
  9. Thank you so much!😊 I don't have a therapist currently but I am almost positive I have ADD so next month at my annual I plan on discussing ideas/meds/therapy referral for it. It has made doing online school difficult at times, well a lot. And honestly the job I have (vet receptionist) requires so much focus and multi-tasking WELL I think takes all ability to do the same amount of focus later the same day on schoolwork. I could find a therapist without my PCP doing a referral but the therapist I found is in the same network as my PCP (Baylor Scott & White) and she specializes in several things including bariatrics so I figured I'd wait a few months to get a referral from my PCP...I called to get in sooner but my PCP was booked until March and my appointment was in early February so I was like I'll just wait thanks...🙃 Agree on the snacks thing although does eating my allotted food for breakfast/lunch etc over the course of my day count as snacking if it isn't extra stuff? And yes, I agree with the "low sugar" etc snacks open up the wormhole. I just signed up for the monthly BariatricPal box so I am hoping I will discover new snacks and foods that are specifically for us I can add into my rotations---I think a lot of my snacks while normal aren't really 'normal' for me anymore--I bought myself some almonds but struggle with the idea of spending 180 of my calories on like 6 grams of protein--I do love the Greek yogurt at 120 calories and anywhere from 12-20 grams of protein! I can't avoid the break area, I work at a vet clinic and it is not so strategically located right by the doctor's office where I am in and out all day to talk to my doctors about cases. And our break area is a sink, counter with microwave and snacks piled on top of it. 😑 I need to work on my will power and I am glad to see the holidays to be on their way out! I have found with me, cold turkey is the best way to nix cravings. I don't get to be one of those people who can have "just one piece" here and there because that one piece on day 1 becomes me constantly snacking and seeking out sugar on day 5 or 6....it snowballs. I am debating going back for a week or two to the preop diet I had which was 2-3 protein shakes with a sensible dinner of lean meat and a vegetable and maybe I'll add in a fruit depending on how that goes to get me back on track. Stupid brain liking stupid garbage sugar. 😤
  10. Hey friends! Here I am a year out and over 100lbs lighter than I was, but stalled because my inner fat kid still loves sugar and snacks. I am moving more but I need to get with a chiropractor I think since walking is painful mostly in my hips although now I find myself able to jog for over a minute at a time! 😮 So here's my need, I have about 30lbs to go to hit my surgeon's goal of 193lbs, I wanna be there by June. 30ish pounds in like over 5 months, I think I can do that but I need some help. I KNOW I'm off track on my eating-I blame my lack of power over my sweet tooth and the holidays. I plan on quitting sugar cold turkey but to that I need ideas for protein heavy, calorie light snacks because when I quit sugar I snack hardcore. I want to have foods I can track (prepackaged-I find being able to scan bar codes the night befoer into Baritastic app allows me some peace of mind that I can eat whatever I have in my lunch box anytime during my 12-15 hour day and not have to worry about continually getting my phone out to log. Also, I can always delete foods if I don't get around to eating everything I bring with me) and have me around 900-1200 calories a day. I have used P3s, greek yogurt, Quest chips (the sweet chili ones are my favorite!), apples are my commute home snack I share with my dog(she gets to go to work with me everyday ), raspberries, Sandwich Bros pita burger things as some of the examples--they are also what I find myself using on a normal basis. I do have an issue in that I had covid back in August, I lost my taste and smell and it has come back mostly all the way but it has really messed up my taste buds namely for tomato based foods(although ketchup is okay, go figure), there are other types that have an 'off' taste to them but I eating those isn't as much of an issue, and of course anything sugary/sweet has not had that wonderful off putting taste in it, in fact because they taste so close to normal that may be another reason I have gravitated so strongly to the sweets. Also I work at a vet clinic and all clients have gotten us for the past couple of months has been sugar(brownies, chocolate, doughnuts, etc etc--we joke you look at the break area and you get diabetes)😬... I don't need lectures at this point....okay, maybe I do. 😐 I know I'm off track. 😕 I am getting in around 100oz of water a day (made the water a priority when a plasma center opened up and my lemon of a dog decides she's going to need a few of the local specialty departments at the vet hospital and I have had zero issues donating at all), protein around 60-90 grams and my vitamins are on track BUT for the most part I have gotten lazy tracking my food intake-another big no-no so calories could be anywhere from 900-1400 maybe more if I'm snacking all day. So what are your go to snacks? Any help quitting sugar? I plan to do so when I am off since I know I'm a raging b*tch when I have quit sugar-at least the first 3ish days and my job is heavily customer facing. Is it worth it to just nix the snacks, stock up on a crap load of water, protein shakes and do the almost fully liquid diet I had to do preop(it was 2-3 protein shakes with one healthy meal) to help reset my taste buds? I have unflavored protein powder-anyone successfully add that into like a muffin cup(like a Kodiak Cake brand)? What about adding it into water with crystal light-kind of like the gatorade protein drinks but less chalky? Thanks for any insight/help/tips etc you can pass my way, I appreciate it all!

    I'm kinda "over" eggs too. Not saying I CANT eat them, just like if I see some deviled eggs, I'll TRY to have one, I THINK it's the texture thing for me. I feel like I LIVE on cheese, protein shakes, Chicken breast, Greek yogurt. tuna packets. Off topic, but I STAY COLD! My blood levels are fantastic! My B12 was high, but doc said that's pretty standard. So my 6 month check up was great. "keep on doing what you are doing" they said.

    Congrats I love reading your posts, to add on I also had no goal given and stuck around 600/800 the first 5 weeks (I had a lot of nausea), after that, I have been around 1000, which I think is likely where I will hang out for the foreseeable future assuming my hunger stays about the same :). My RD was very keen for me to eat cheese or another source of fat such as olive oil or avocado as early as possible, so I say go for it to your comfort! I found it didn't cause any craving issues or head hunger either, only carbier things do that for me. I have seen other people given a limit of 35g for fat intake, which I gently try to remain below for calories at this stage, but generally good fats are exactly that nothing but good and very vital for lots of stuff including brain function. I can't rave about cheese enough tbh, even though its high fat it never makes me ill and its stomached really easily, it was the only food that didn't make me nauseous. I love the light baby bells, cheddar, light laughing cow triangles, cheese sticks and eggs baked with (full fat) cottage cheese. I mostly ate cheese from week 3 to week 5... sometimes 5 portions a day, it had no effect on my weight loss (8lbs). (I know it wasn't the best but anything except cheese and yogurt made me want to hurl!) Personally, (you seem fine but adding for any others reading) I would avoid nut butter for a bit longer or have a very small amount with something you know you tolerate well at first, they make me very ill still for some reason (I was fine before surgery). Good luck! whatever you do will be fine in the end!

  14. HaseenS I know its so hard, Keep going back a step when you cant go forward. I never feel hungry so its easy not to bother eating but I am so weak and wobbly I have to. I reached out to my dietitian and she said try crackers and soft cheese and breadsticks and soft cheese. Strained [ cream of] tinned soup. Tiny slivers of mature cheese. Yogurts and homemade milk shakes without sugar. Ice pops. My Calories are so low that I dont bother with low fat or fat free. I will sort that when I get onto real foods.

    Yeh I am able to do two good swallows too, good amount. But I still have to continuously drink otherwise I don't get enough fluids in. I can't do room temperature water, has to be chilled. So I always carry a bottle around with ice. We are also to have 0.5 cup of milk daily so that goes towards fluid. And I also do buttermilk made from high protein ice landic yogurt. So I do make my fluid requirement but it still gets tiring to continuously drinking. Hopefully with time it gets better.
  16. I am at 5 weeks too and am quite behind the rest of our group. I can not seem to progress to any soft foods. The only things I can eat are dry crackers, yogurt, and chicken soup [strained] I have never made it anywhere near my recommended water intake. Had very few of my vitamins. I start with nausea and vomiting it continues for days . I finally got a Doctor today after the Christmas break and he has prescribed a GERD tablets so I am hopeful. I am so weak and shaky and have no energy. My only consolation is I am loosing weight. ....... Protein - failed Water - failed Vitamins - failed Lets hope we get on course soon

    @BirdLady21 I had my bypass the same day as you, on Dec 7th, im 3 weeks pot-op today as well. My problem is i can eat almost anything. I am refraining, but wish i would have a hard time. I have lost 38 pounds in the 3 weeks, i eat a meal every 2-3 hours. Today for breakfast was 59 cal yogurt, with 1 smashed avocado and small bag of 120 calorie protein crackers that I bought on bariatricpal. But then 3 hours later, 2 eggs and 1 percent cottage cheese, like 4 ounces worth. I feel like im eating too much, but my stomach is not bothering me at all, and i lost the 38 pounds in 3 weeks which is more than 10% of my body weight. Am I doing something wrong?? Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

I'm about 8 months out and I could easily get my protein from 'normal' food however I choose to have 1 protein shake per day because I like it for breakfast and also then I just don't have to think about protein again for the rest of the day because I know I'll hit the rest through food no problem. But if you had eggs for breakfast, greek yogurt and fruit for snack, lunch meat and cheese for lunch, jerky and nuts for snack, meat and veggie for dinner you'd easily hit your goal for the day once you are able to consume a few oz at a time and you'd have a pretty balanced day.
  19. I don't personally carry anything. I just visualize a 5oz yogurt cup and what I think would fit into that. I take small portions and I stop eating when I'm full.
  20. I will be happy to tell you my experience since it is very recent history. However, everyone's doctor and experience is a little bit different. I elected for the gastric sleeve. It was a personal choice. Prior to surgery, my doctor requested that I begin a special diet to reduce the size of my liver. From what I have read on this forum, these diets very greatly, from surgeon to surgeon, in the types of foods you can eat and the length of time you must diet prior to surgery. However, I believe that, in all cases, one is required to consume more protein than carbohydrates or fats. Apparently, your liver, while overweight, is large and fatty. The diet reduces the size of your liver. This reduction allows the surgeon more room to operate. (I have no idea if this is true...just forwarding you what my surgeon told to me.) On the day of the surgery, I arrived at the facility at the appointed time. I was prepped for surgery with an IV. I chatted with the various staff who needed information and chatted with the surgeon prior to the procedure. According to my doctor, the surgery would take a little less than one hour. At the appointed time, I was taken to the operating room. My last memory was meeting the staff in the operating room. I was put under anesthesia shortly thereafter. For me, anesthesia is like time travel. My last memory was in the operating room but I woke up in a recovery room a short time later. I know that time had passed but it feels instantaneous...perhaps like time travel would feel. At this point, there are numerous posts on this forum from people who will recount their experience with recovery. I can only share with you my personal account. I awoke in a recovery room with a little discomfort. It wasn't pain per se, just a feeling of being bloated. I was not nauseated nor was I in any real pain. Again, I only felt bloated discomfort. Apparently, the surgeon inflates your abdomen with CO2 gas in order to have room to perform the surgery. Not all of this gas escapes prior to the end of surgery. This gas was the cause of my discomfort. My assigned post-op nurse encouraged me to get up and walk as much as I could to help relieve the gas pressure. I spent a good amount of time pacing about the floor trying to relieve the pressure. The process works but not as fast as you would like. The remainder of the time, I spent eating some ice chips and taking fluids intravenously. After a few hours, since I had no complications, I was released to my nearby hotel room. This was an outpatient procedure for me. However, an overnight stay at a hotel was required. I was instructed by the surgeon to immediately contact their surgical center if I experienced any issues such as pain, discomfort, etc. Otherwise, if I felt good in the morning, I could go straight home. I awoke in the morning and went home. I had no real issues. My surgery was on a Wednesday. My follow up appointment was exactly one week later, the following Wednesday. I was instructed by the surgical staff that during that week, I could only consume clear liquids. The only things on the menu were clear broths like chicken or beef, no sugar sport drinks, water, protein water and diluted, no sugar cranberry juice. Again, every doctor is different. There are many posts on this forum which provide different details about the immediate post op diet. You can find both positive and negative experiences. In my case, the one week follow up appointment allowed my doctor to assess my situation and determine if I could move on to the next phase of food consumption. At my follow up appointment a week later, I had experienced no pain or adverse effects from the surgery. I was permitted to move on to the next phase of food consumption. I could move on to pureed foods. This phase is to last for a period of three weeks. I am currently in the pureed food phase of my recovery. I was given a list of acceptable foods that I can eat. I was also given nutrition goals to achieve. That is, I am expected to consume a certain number of grams of protein, carbohydrates and fats each day. The acceptable foods on my list would be considered "soft" foods. These types of foods are on the list but this is not the entire list: Scrambled and hard boiled eggs Pudding Yogurt Cottage Cheese Certain canned vegetables Certain creamed soups Protein shakes There are acceptable meats on the menu as well. Items such as chicken, turkey and different types of fish. However, this is the "puree" portion of recovery. I am to puree these foods prior to consumption. That is, I put most of these items, like meat and vegetables, in a food processor to puree them before I eat them. I believe the idea is allow your stomach some time to heal. So there you have it. This is my experience to date. I have followed the doctor's program in its entirety. I have not experienced any problems or issues. I am about two weeks from my next follow up appointment. I expect that I will be able to go back to eating solid foods again at that time. I will leave you with something that I read on this forum. Someone's doctor told them that gastric surgery will give a person about one year to lose weight. During that one year, one must learn how to eat properly to maintain a lifelong weight loss. My plan is to change my past eating habits to more permanent, healthy choices in the future. I have about 11 months remaining to learn. Best of luck to you.

    Hi everyone, Had my gastric bypass surgery December 7th. Today I'm 3 weeks post op. Starting weight was 285 today I'm 263. I can't tolerate anything. Everything makes me sick to my stomach except saltine crackers.... my whey protein isolate shakes. I tried adding yogurt, almond butter, bananas to give it flavor, but I can only take a couple of sips before I start feeling sick.I have little to no energy...I take ALL my vitamins; I drink as much water as I can..it makes me nauseous.I have my follow up apt.   22. I'm 13 weeks sleeve post op. Losing 1-2 pounds a week. Sleeping well. Feeling well overall. But the thought of chewing and swallowing a meal just turns me off so I don't do it. Getting plenty of protein thru Greek yogurt and protein shakes and applesauce with added collagen. Some fruit and nuts but no meat. Ugh!     Just not hungry.

    13 weeks sleeve post op. A little hair loss just began but that's ok. I am just not hungry. The thought of eating a meal makes me sick to my stomach (literally.) I'm losing 1-2 pounds a week. Sleeping well. Feel fine. But living on greek yogurt and protein shakes and applesauce with added collagen. Oh- some fruit and nuts too. Is this ok or am I developing some eating disorder?   24. Mine is as follows: Starting on January 4th, avoiding carbs, no fruit, no yogurt. I will be using a protein shake for 2 of my meals, and my other meal will be lean protein and vegetables. The day before surgery (1/10) I will be on a liquid diet. 3-4 protein shakes a day and sugar-free clear liquids. My surgery is Jan 11 (with luck as long as I don't get cancelled) ☆Starr
  25. Mines is liquids and yogurt but I don’t eat it.. So I’ll be living off broth and popsicles for a while lol.
