I LOVE TO POOP!
elektrik_rose replied to mezanne1401's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it common not to poo after surgery. This may be TMI, but I go almost every time I use the restroom. I will be sleeved on December 12th. -
Hi I had gastric sleeve surgery six weeks ago. There have been no issue since surgery. I recently changed my diet her my nutritionist to soft food. I introduced a few new foods that was two days ago. I was constipatedfor the past three days (tmi) but develop a stomachache this morning and was able to go to the bathroom. All day I have had severe stomach cramps that feel like when I was 15 having menstruation cramps. Anybody have any idea what this is from. I would normally take Advil but not allowed now so I just took a pain pill that the doctor gave me after surgery. If you could please tell me if this is happened to any of you or if this is something I should be concerned about. I appreciate any insight. Im 23 and 5'3"....So I recently went shopping and found that I am finally in regular size clothes!!! WoooHooo!!! My sleeve date was May 1st. Starting weight 257-18w & 2x tops---today 199- ..........14 & 16 REGULAR JEANS & L tops!!!! Notice I also hit Onderland!!!!! I am currently in a stall and have been for at least a week or so! I try not to weigh my self everyday... for the last 2 days I've worn dresses! I never thought I would but they look amazing! As you can tell I'm very proud of my self. It wasn't but maybe 6 weeks ago I was on here crying thinking I wasn't going to drop anymore weight...I have stalled ALOT!!! But hey slow and steady is fine with me. I have noticed I'm starting to have extra skin in my breast area...SRY TMI!!!!! I will have plastics sometime in the near future after I hit my goal. I'm shooting for 160-----140 would be amazing----who knows... Im going to let my body decide. My husband loved the old me, but is wild about the new me.... I do sometimes "miss" food....I hate the uncomfortable feeling when I take that 1 last bite (I still haven't learned)! I haven't conquered "head hunger" My enemy....chips (Pringles & Cheeto-Puffs)...in the last 3 months I have quit my job, went back to school(full-time), strengthened my relationship with my hubby and son! I'm trying to finish my basics so I can get into the Petrolleum Engineering program. Before the sleeve I was to tired to do anything... I worked full time 50+ hours...I wasn't in control of my life...I am now...What have I learned... No matter the size or shape I am...pretty or not...I love me for me and want to be healthy for me and my family!!! I do not regret my sleeve at all. At times when I ate to much and was in pain I would probably tell you different but it has been absolutely life changing!!!!! I'm sorry for all the extra info I have crammed in here I just felt like I had so much to share with the world and you guys, I knew, would be happy for me and listen!!! Future sleevers-don't second guess your self...And when you hit that stall get on here and talk to someone...there is so many motivational stories on here that will help you get through!!!

slight incision line infection
vlp1968 replied to kathyNH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an infected incision from a suture hanging out just a little. The doc took care of it by cutting the suture and squeezing (TMI I know). Anyway, he did say if it had been a port incision he wouldn't have done a fill. I would call the doc asap and maybe he will prescribe an antibiotic. Just want you to be prepared you might not get the fill. -
6 days post op--gas pains..question!
morganamazing posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Total tmi, but nothing is helping out this gas issue. I had my last meal on Saturday nov 1. I also took a laxative that day to make sure I had nothing up there. Dr didn't even ask me to, you're welcome anyways doc. Sunday the lax kicked In, and I was on my liquid diet for that day and Monday. Tuesday I had my surgery. I woke up immediately in pain, but now that I've been dealing with the same types of pain I'm sure it was gas all along. I've walked around and continue to do so, I've taken gas x, extra strength mind you...called the number kaiser gave me if I had any questions or concerns...they called me back, I told them I had the Rouxeny done. Her response was, I don't know what that is....oh god. Finally had a few answers after she basically googled stuff, which lets be honest I've already done. Milk of magnesia...omg absolutely disgusting!!! And suppositories...nope. So I had a few tbsp of milk of magnesia...cherry flavor...:/ it did not taste like cherries. Well, that was this morning. It's almost midnight and still nothing. I'm writing because I'm hoping someone has a remedy I have yet to try. I mean if worse comes to worse I guess I'll do a suppository, but I'm pretty hesitant on that. I just want to be on the real road to recovery, not this gassy hell. It's causing so much crampy pain and discomfort, I can't even enjoy the fact my incisions are healing because the pain is horrendous. Any help or suggestions would be so very helpful. Thank you I'm advance!! -
I was sleeved on 3/27 also. Had some major nausea but not much pain. They decided to keep me an extra day to give me some different nausea medicine . Right after surgery I threw up (sorry if TMI) a little bit of blood. And over Tuesday and Wednesday a total of 3 times. Finally after a late nap yesterday evening I woke up and was feeling way better. I could not use the pain pump because that seemed to make the nausea worse. They let me come home this morning 3/29. Hope you feel better soon.

I go to the Dr. on the 17th. Possibly for my first fill. I need to talk to him. I have these...twinges in my tummy. Where the band is I feel this under the skin irratation sometimes. Not always, but often enough I know it is there. If I lay on my side I can feel just a little uncomfortable. I wouldn't call it "pain" maybe just a little "hurt" if you know what I mean. I was banded on Feb 27th. Am I not healed completely. I thought I was. I am def. going to talk to my Dr. and see what he thinks, but I was wondering if this is normal or if I should be extra worried. Or shoot it might be gas. (sorry tmi) but my burps are so wimpy since this band.

I would image it is ketosis. I had the stinky pee too!! :)Sorry if tmi. But there's a few threads about it lol people said the Listerine taps helped a lot also. It will pass but while your in ketosis I would take full advantage while you can. Meaning walk a lot and if you are cleared to do more do it now. I was in for..... sheesh almost 2 months and I dropped the most weight then.

Surgery was fine, and I was told by my doctor it went really well. I was up and walking a few hours after. The pain was decent after and I never went above a 2.5-3 on the pain scale, nor did I need to use the pain pump very often. The very next day I went home. That's when the pain started. I didn't pass any gas until Saturday (tmi) and I had a bm for the first time since surgery yesterday (extra tmi.) I finally started feeling better Monday night and gradually am getting better as days progress. I couldn't imagine going back to work... every little thing makes me tired and I get grumpy and agitated. No "real" hunger but I was able to go to full liquids Saturday, and if my tummy allows it I'll be going to purees today[emoji4] I have been able to sleep comfortably, but can still not sleep on my back. Left side, where the drain was is still REALLY painful. I am all for helping lol. Ask away[emoji4]

4 Days Post-op...Feeling Fabulous
My Big Day 3/15/2011 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I want to give hope to the others of you about to go in for surgery. I had a rough time with nausea the day after my surgery but then it started to subside on Thurs morning and today I have had none. I walked for 45 mins twice, once outside and once on the treadmill. I also walked the dogs with my hubby for another 25 mins. I went shopping at Target and to the park with my son. I also did light cleaning and took two showers. I am not dragging around and am on the full liquid stage and the liquids are going down pretty good...just sipping them all slowly. I met my protein and fluid goal for the day and am very pleased with my progress. The pain is very little, only some at the largest incision on my left side. I expect that tomorrow I will feel even better and plan to go to the gym and to a birthday party in the afternoon. I had a bowel movement this morning after my first protein shake and it was completely liquid and came in spurts...I know TMI but lots of you worry about when to expect this. I am not weighing until I see the surgeon two weeks from now b/c don't want to know if the IV fluids put weight on me. Overall I would say I am a success story already and I hope other people have experiences similar to mine. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Also...have to mention a wonder drug I was given for nausea called Emend...it is awesome. It is usually given to chemotherapy patients for severe nausea and my surgeon ordered it for me preop and postop...its the bomb! -
A new Bandster with a few questions!
bonomofo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm officially part of Band camp as of this past Wednesday!! The surgery went well and everyone was extremely nice and helpful at Franklin Regional Medical Center in NC. (have to give them props) As for the recovery I am in a lot of pain. I hurts so much to sit down, stand up, and walk where my port area is. As well as the gas pains... my back and stomach ache and are tight! I take gas x strips and taking hydrocodone for the pain. Question for the post bandsters: How long did you have intense pain sitting down and standing? how about the gas pains? Any tips for post up recovery? Also, I haven't had a "bowl movement " (sorry I know TMI) since before the surgery.. is this ok? Thank you all for your support and answering my previous post!! -
Good Morning Heather (actually, I doubt it is morning in Portugal now, oh well), Saw your IM yesterday, but it went to my phone, I was still sound asleep:notagree. Sorry you are having such problems. I wish I could offer some advice, but like you, I am starting to have problems too. The past three mornings, (also probably TMI) I have woke up and dry-heaved. There is nothing to actually come up. But, I feel pretty weak too. Aren't you glad we only have to do this for a short time? I have an aunt who weighed 400 pounds and decided she did not want to "turn 40 and be fat". So, she was working for a physician's office and they had brought in some new liquid diet program. They told her if she agreed to allow them to use her as a success story, they would let her do the diet for free. She did it religiously for 18 months and lost 220 pounds during that time (no, I am not kidding!). I don't know how anyone could do that for that long. I am barely surviving my pre-op. Oh, and by the way, on Thanksgiving, my aunt decided she was going to eat real food. She literally went crazy and ate everything on the table and had seconds of everthing. She ate one of every kind of dessert. From there on out, she completely went off the diet and gained all of her weight back in about a year and a half. I felt so bad for her. Hang in there, remember, only 3 days till banding. A couple of weeks of liquid dieting afterwards and this will all be past. You can do this. I truly hope you get to feeling better.

Hey all, well, my surgery is Thursday and so I'm doing liquids only now in preparation.....wowowow this is HARD work! I started with a Protein shake this morning, Green tea mid morning and some Imagine brand potato leek Soup. So far so good but I think by end of day I will be a mess. I couldn't get through all day yesterday on liquids so had a small meal around dinnertime. Thoughts? Advice? Suggestions? Man oh man am I peeing a lot too! (I know, TMI!) I'm sure hoping this goes easier after I get banded......woooo little light headed!

Protein shakes and GAS
Anniesmom12 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks Mary about the lemon idea...I'll try it. Seems a LOT of things make me gassy (sorry TMI) but for sure the protein shakes do! I think its the milk...not the powder. I just drink them and go on because it's the only flavor I have found that I can actually stand the taste of...and I can't stand to make it with water or soy milk. -
I dont know if it is still normal or not. But ever since surgery I am very aware of my liver or in the region where my liver is. Here is where the TMI might come in for some. Dont know if i should call doctor or what. Mostly during active moments. Like sex for example. It is very uncomfortable there (where my liver is). First of all I have to put pressure on that area even to function. I dont know if it is just bruised or should I be worried.

As far as the fill goes I have had 3 in the past 6 weeks... They won't do another one until they repair my port. Which we are waiting on the insurance for. I am really not hungry (just in my head I am) but when I log my food I notice that everything is high in carbs. Like I said I had no direction on what or what not to eat. I know protein first but what protein.. Had problems with the shakes and since the surgery severe problems with constipation. (sorry tmi) So now I am reading and deciding how to proceed

I was the 24th also! And yes, the big D has set in - OMG! I know liguids in, liguids out but jeez can't we catch a break - all I can say is be careful! I know TMI - I have been on clear liquids since the day before surgery - In regards to the protein - I bought protein bullets at GNC - fruit punch and mixed it with pink crystal light lemonade - not bad! Tastes like fruit punch drink - I actually like it! I don't like the protein shakes so this may be my saving grace. Try it!

Well I truely believe when you love someone and choose to marry them, these are some of the things one SHOULD DO. I am glad you have him. Not TMI really - it's great info for this forum. RNY, other surgeies, and just poor health in general, do a lot to the human body. When I was thin once, I was in a terrible accident and had many dilemmas when I got home that I've never talked about EVER - they were kept between my husband and I; so I admire you for talking about that here. But I can tell you that I'd do the same for him. -
I had a fill yesterday of .6 with a total of 5.5 and I definitely feel different! I know it's probably too soon to tell, but all the other times when I had fills I felt the same. Bad thing is I had to learn the hard way! I was on liquids yesterday and suppose to be on liquids/soft foods today and I ate some chicken! OMG! this was my 2nd stuck episode and it was very bad....I know it is all my fault and I don't know why I don't listen...I'm guessing since the first few fills I was able to eat on the 2nd day, so I tried it. What should I do? I feel like I irritated my bad, since some of it came back up, well mostly slime..Sorry for the TMI! I'm assuming liquids for the next 2 days? Also how many CC's do u have and how long did it take u to get there? I feel like I jumped up to 5 so quickly, in 2 months...Thanks!

God bless you and thanks for this thread... I am traveling in India 2 weeks post-op (12 days to be absolutely exact sleeved 30th Nov in Mumbai). It is my centremost stitch which is kinda high up on my tummy & sticks up too. The long periods of sitting - waiting at airport, aircrafts, etc. through the day...... The band of my bra probably rubbed against it through all the travel. Now it is a bit raised and red with a yellowish dot in the centre. Hurts when I touch it. I am a bit scared. I hope this is not serious.... My posture is probably to blame as well. I might succumb and visit the doc tomorrow. Sorry if that was TMI back there. But reading about all your experiences will help me sleep tonight. Thanks and God bless.

More TMI Alert: Going into the small bathroom stalls and being able to reach my booty!!! (Usually have to go in the bigger stalls for logistical reasons I'm sure some of you are aware of! )

TMI warning! I had the same problem. I took Milk of Magnesia. When hat wasn't enough, I used A Fleets enema. After fighting it for a month this way, I now take three stool softener a a day - one in the morning and two at night. In addition, I take two Fiberwell Gummies. Each Gummie has 5 grams of fiber. It is what finally worked for me.
