  1. Hi friends! Just got to overweight today!! I am 5’2”. I weighed 235lb on surgery day, and today I weighed 160.8. It has been 6 months 2 weeks and 3 days since surgery (August 17th). What I have learned: 1) you will still be hungry 2) you will still have cravings 3) you will still love food 4) you pretty much can’t eat and you have to always be aware with what you are putting in your mouth. My favorite food is pizza and I’ve had it about 4 times since. I loved pasta, but I never ever eat it alone like I used to. This way of living has been forced upon me because of surgery. Before I would binge, now I mindfully eat always. The first couple months were the worst. I was depressed and missed food so much, but I stuck with it Bc I didn’t want to feel like a failure. Now it is a habit to eat the way I do. Please keep that in mind. Force this habit on you from the beginning.

    Liquid Tylenol

I bought both liquid and tablet Tylenol. I didn’t end up using the liquid bc there was high fructose corn syrup and was afraid of dumping. So I just broke the tablets and swallowed with water. You’re able to take medications m&m size or smaller.

Me and the husband advice please

Meal planning def doesn’t take all day. We do menu planning on Friday/Saturday before we go shopping. Mexican Mondays, Tuesday and Thursday the kids pick and prepare dinners (with help), Wednesday’s are bento box dinner bc the kids have karate, Friday’s are Breakfast. We meal prep on Sunday’s, usually during football. Now it’s just for an hour or so on a Sunday. Start with a rotisserie chicken or make a big batch of soup. It’s super easy

    Weight loss with breast loss

Well I had breast cancer at the age of 40 back in ‘09 and made the choice after all the chemo and radiation that since one of them tried to kill me, I was done with them. Before diagnosis, I was 230 pounds and still carrying G-cups. Since I had breast cancer, I got “free” reduction surgery and went from DDD to a B cup in a morning. 9 years later this is still the best decision I ever made, but the dramatic difference in my profile took some getting used to. I was actually heavier after chemo than before (gained 10 pounds) but now since I just got sleeved 3 weeks ago I do kinda wonder what’s going to happen to the lil ole Bs I have now. I’m kinda worried that they will completely disappear, but if they do I know I’ll still be so much healthier for it

    Diabetic Results

I'm type 2 & take metformin, glimeperide and Lantus at night. My bs is running 200 in the morning taking nothing. Trying to work with my endo to figure out what to do. Surgery was Monday and so I'm still healing. Taking in mo calories and Dr sent me home with liquid meds, with sugar. Go figure.
  8. The ins requirements for 6 month weight loss program is BS since there is no science to back it up. It's a barrier only. Since you're at a 39 BMI, you don't want to actually loose much weight on this diet. If you have co-morbidities you probably have to keep your weight so that you are over 35 when the request for ins. approval goes in. If you don't have co-morbidities, you're on the bubble as is and you don't want to lose any weight or you'll be at risk for rejection. You also don't want to gain weight since that can be a disqualifier too. The irony of all of this was that for my 6 month diet, I was worried about losing weight and getting disqualified. That says it all when it comes to this stupid requirement.

    How often to snack???

Hmmm. I’m still on the puréed stage, but my doc said 3 meals, zero snacks. Which is extremely difficult to get in protein requirements bc I can’t eat a lot. However, seeing as I have to wait 30 mins before and after eating, I don’t see how it’s possible to fit in snacks unless I cut down on sleep

    Funny thought

Oh and I forgot to add... pretty sure this is why I’m struggling so hard to meet protein goals. Most days it’s a success if I hit 40gm protein bc I don’t have the “patience” to take what seems like forever to eat

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I'm so sorry. I really hope in the long run this surgery will help you to have better control of your bs. That's so great you are down on your insulin. I take Lantus as well. Before the diet o was taking 72 units at night. I also take metformin and glimeperide.

    First real temptation

Okay so update: today was as rough as I thought it might be but I learned 2 lessons: 1. Don’t ever try to eat a single poached egg with hollandaise sauce. Hubs ordered eggs Benedict for breakfast and the plan was for me to eat one of his eggs. I even scraped a lot of the sauce off, but about 30 minutes after eating I was in complete AGONY. I’ve eaten eggs 3 times this week so I’m guessing it was the sauce. All I could do was pace around in the hotel room bc lying down or sitting hurt too much. Had to take 2 Zofran, but thank goodness the nausea and the intense spasms faded by time to start getting ready. 2. I learned that i can sit through an entire reception dinner and eat 3 bites of flank steak (lots of chewing) and 4 green beans and I’ll survive. Again, drinks were flowing like crazy and don’t even get me started on the table entirely made up of champagne flutes, lol. I was starting to get cranky bc by the time dinner came I’d not eaten anything for over 10 hours, but just that teensy bit of food fixed me Okay so I completely missed my protein goal by a mile, but tomorrow is a travel day and then I’m back home

    Iron Deficient?

I think your right ELCEE. I looked at my labs from October and my B1 was low then and then I looked up symptoms for a B1 deficiency and it’s all my symptoms. I’m going to head to the hospital I had my surgery at bc I feel terrible.
  14. Oh I see. Well with the weight loss hopefully it becomes more of a fun thing as oppose to anxiety inducing. I get that too. I never liked shopping before bc I’d see myself in the mirror and also had to see the sizes I had to put on. Now I have to say it’s more fun. Hope you’re able to find some cute stuff!! I just bought a few things here and there as I lost weight bc I knew I was still losing. I have 22 pounds until I hit my goal weight.
  15. That’s great news!!! Yes I know clothes are expensive so I was very appreciative of a friend who handed me down a bunch bc it was going to be a while before I could replace an entire waredrobe (I didn’t have ton of clothes before but when you don’t fit into any sure feels like you have nothing) Don’t get me wrong I am so happy to clear my entire closet and drawers out. Just stinks bc to replace everything takes time and 💰 money. Not sure if you mind second hand shops (resale) but I’ve found things there too. I love going to resale clothing shops. I’ve found some really cute items!! Just a suggestion😊

    sleep study

I just completed my sleep study at home. I had the belts around my chest and abdomen, a nasal cannula and sat monitor on my finger. I slept terribly bc I was told if the sat monitor came off it would void the test. Awaiting my results and then I will be scheduled. Good luck
  17. Most vegetables. As a kid I was force fed and was disgusted by them. I started eating your basic veggies during Pre-Surgery classes. After surgery I am willing to try any and all of them and quite enjoy them.

    2 week stall?

First day of the stall hit while still on liquid diet phase. I consumed 184 calories that day. Second day was 1st day purées. I had 1/2 egg and 1/4 cup low-fat cottage cheese for 2 meals and all I had was the 2 meals. Yeah that’s all I had that day but I was so sick and tired of “sweet” tasting protein drinks I didn’t care. Yesterday I branched out and added a third meal of the Bariatric oatmeal. I double checked all my macros and I’ve only had about 20gm carbs for the 3 days combined. I did skip walking on the treadmill one of those days bc I had dr appts all day. Man I hope skipping one day on the treadmill doesn’t put me into a stall...
  19. OMG! I had the EXACT same thing happen. That's why I saw my gyno at the end of the year. Totally ruined my Christmas by the way. She put me on a round of BC pills (with progesterone), but I honestly felt a little crazy on them. Very emotional. She said my uterus was enlarged and did a biopsy (I wouldn't recommend that BTW, VERY painful).

Total Stall at 2 months post op

Ok, will try to answer some of the remaining questions- no, not taking any pain meds, only allowed Tylenol these days and that does exactly nothing for me so I use alternating heat/ice ..elevate etc.. to deal with knee. Getting MRI tomorrow and should know more. As far as water at work, we are a manufacturing facility of medical parts- we have one small cell that deals with chemical finishing that should not have water in/near those chemicals- the rest of the plant is just regular machining, inspecting, shipping/rec. They decided to unilaterally punish everyone in the plant minus the office staff up front by removing all drinking abilities (water, tea coffee, whatever ) and we only have water fountains at both ends of the facility and one in the clean room. I myself only do computer and paperwork, have no chemicals near me (nor does 98% of the plant) but they made up some bullshit OSHA rule about not being allowed to have drink containers of ANY kind out on the floor. It is cruel, inhumane and I'm looking for a new job, not just because of the lack of hydration but the mandatory 10 hrs of OT they've been shoving down everyone's throat since May of 2018. I still am able to walk and get around, but I'm slowed significantly because sudden changes of direction could cause more damage, kneeling or stooping is impossible at this point, and stairs are risky bc the knee wants to go it's own direction without notice. My husband used to ask me to slow down my walking and called me a "sandpiper" bc I always walked like I was on fire or something. Now it takes a long time to get anywhere and it's frustrating to me. When your mobility is changed for any reason, it's a frustrating adjustment. As far as lifting my arms, do that all night long. My arms never stop all night long. Just want to be able to enjoy (and trust my legs again) so I can walk around, garden, go shopping, etc without pain and restriction. Don't want to be hurt right now. If I've missed a question- please forgive.

    October 2018 Sleevers

Hi Marnellepaul- I have 4 months post surgery and have lost pounds so far as well. I am the slower side as well and have been feeling frustrated. I recently had my 4 month follow up appt and my Dr thinks I'm losing just the right amount of weight. There is no right or wrong. She also thinks that losing weight on the slower end is better for the body and we are less likely to loss our hair as quick or as much. So those are some pluses at least! One thing that i started doing recently is intermittent fasting- 8 hours eating and 16 hours fasting. This has helped a lot bc I realIze now I was grazing a lot at night.
  22. I had a terrible psych eval experience. Like you, I thought if I was sane and in charge of my life and making the decision for the right reasons, I'd be fine. WRONG. Not only did I fail, the therapist went up one side of me and down the other. It was awful. In hindsight, it had everything to do with her and zero to do with me. I spoke with the director of the bariatric program, but there was no budging, no second opinions permitted, and certainly no possibility the therapist was the one with the problem. It derailed my journey completely. I wasn't against therapy (God knows I have food issues or else I wouldn't be here), but the woman who did my psych evaluation wanted me to come back after a few months of therapy to see if I was "better". Such BS. I was so anxious about the idea of being judged by her again, I stopped going to therapy after a few sessions and really thought about whether or not I wanted this surgery. Just so happened, when I was really to get back on the path, it was 11 months since my psych eval. It expired after a year. I let it expire and redid it with a different therapist, who felt so sorry for me after my tale of woe she apologized and approved me saying, "I think you've been through enough already!" My brother-in-law was going for his psych eval this summer and I told him exactly what Ed told you. LIE. Tell them what they want to hear. That's what he did, and he was approved on the first go-round. I will say, the extra YEAR it took me to get this surgery did give me an awful lot of time to think about it, and the changes required for it to really be successful. When I went for follow-up therapy, I chose to go to a therapist I'd seen years earlier for something else. Would you believe she'd had gastric bypass twelve years before, and in the two or three years since I'd last seen her, she'd gained about fifty pounds? That was the most valuable thing I got out of therapy. Staring at her and thinking I'd really have to change if I didn't want to follow in her footsteps. I hope you find a way back on the path quickly, and with as little BS as possible!!

    6 month post-op weight loss

Hi, I did the sleeve on 12-12-18 and just hit the 50 pound mark on Valentines... I couldn’t be happier! I started at 337 and currently I’m at 285. For me, the weight keeps coming off. I walk about 1.5 miles 4 days a week and eat about 4 (very) small meals per day. Best decision I’ve ever made. PS - and this is full disclosure...my first two weeks I kept thinking I had made the wrong decision bc it was hardddddd! Once I got over the four week mark it all became a bit easier. Good luck!
  24. I just checked fertility friend thinking hmm it’d been a while since my last period.. ladies I was starving and still had my period. Lately I’ve been nauseous and craving salty things...: the last time that happened I was pregnant. On bc. It’s been 112 days and I’m now freaking out!!
