What Makes People Gain Weight Back?
TinyMamiOf3kids replied to cjoyce's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes poor eating habits will cause weight gain. This is the reason why everyone that decide on surgery should really think "are you ready for a life change"? this is not the so called easy way out or the fast way to lose weight. It's all up to the individual. If you eat pizza before you stop it completely or you can eat it once every 2 months a slice not a pie or a few slices. It's about mind control portion & if you are ready to change. I haven't gain any weight back even when I get TOM. I eat as healthly as I can because eating a lot & fried food is what made me fat. I want to live long & enjoy my life healthly not a fat woman not wanting to go out & have fun. -
The last few days I have been extremely depressed. I am not sure why. All I want to do is sleep. Today I started feeling sick (sore throat, congestion), so not sure if that is part of the tiredness. I have bad dreams, some about people that aren't in my life anymore, that meant a lot to me, and then I wake up so sad and I can't get out of the funk all day. I have been crying just out of nowhere too. The last 2 days I have been walking almost 2 miles, and then come home and just sleep. I have been on Lexapro for years for depression and it has helped. It just seems like it does nothing now. I am only on 5 mg. Maybe I should go to the dr. and have him increase it? I am 12 weeks out now. I was kind of depressed the first few weeks, but then it got better, and now its way worse. I am on my period too, and its still getting back to normal, so maybe that is part of it too. I have been losing weight pretty fast, I guess, (70 pounds in 12 weeks) but I have 204 pounds total to lose. Can losing quickly cause depression? Or do you guys think its just everything combined? I also don't have a job and have been having so much trouble finding one, and its really been bothering me a lot lately. Maybe it will just get better on its own with time?

You know I never was one for used clothes but it is definetly the way to go. You drop sizes so fast you will go broke trying to keep up. There was a time when I had every piece of clothing in a pile to go to goodwill even my shoes(I was a wide). It has been interesting gaining since losing the band, but now rebanded I have some restriction so I have a whole closet of clothes that will fit about 20 lbs down again.

I am so sick of people and their freakin comments!
Shanny posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You know what I noticed? When I weighed 247 no one said anything about my weight. Now everyone has a freakin' opinion. I didn't get a sleeve to be sexy, or to flaunt everything I have. I did it to be healthy and to be around for my son. So, now that I'm almost 70 pounds lighter everyone feels the need to comment on it. I used to be invisible and really it had it's perks. Now, everyone notices me and feels the need to tell me what they think. Today, we had an event at work and I wore a dress. One of the teachers said to me, "You look 10 times better now than you did last year." I'm still trying to figure out WTF she meant by that. Why do people have to give you back handed compliments? My boss told me, "I'm glad you decided to get active because you really needed to do something about it before." Really? At my highest weight I still did my job like a pro. My weight has NEVER effected my job performance. Friends are telling me that I should dress sexier so everyone can see how sexy I am now. I was sexy when I was 247! Someone else at work told me that I need to slow down because I'm losing too much weight and my girl won't like it if I lose my shape. That I should just lift weights and stop doing so much cardio because I'm getting too skinny. Excuse me why are you all in my relationship? How do you know what she'll like? Oh, the one that took the cake was the woman that said that I shouldn't have had the surgery because now I can't eat anything - I should have researched more and picked something different that would allow me to eat more. Right now I'm not really comfortable with how I look. I see everything that I still need to fix and I don't recognize myself sometimes when I look in the mirror. I'm trying to figure out who this version of me is. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how fast my body is changing. I really don't need everyone's opinions. I'm sure people mean well, but I feel vulnerable as it is. At first it was you look great which was embarassing enough (I don't like a lot of attention), now the comments are getting a little too personal. I don't need the Peanut Gallery's 2 cents! -
Hi, I too have PCOS and before banding I meet with a nutrtionist thru my fertility clinic and they diagnosed the pcos and put me on metformin 3x. daily. I do not eat carbs and I eat small meals and water and hydration is key. I also work out 3x week hard (cardio and weights) other days i do pilaties or just walking. The metformin was the missing pice for me along with the lapband the weight is finally shedding. The metformin also helped to regulate my periods and helped with the hormonal fluctuations as well. Talk to your MD/Endocrinologist about adding metformin also do you have insulin resistance that is marked by rashes along the body, that is indicitive of a bad case of insulin resistance. THe metformin totally helps along with the band. Ask to have you fasting alc tested. its a blood suggar test.

Hi there! It's ok to feel down. Medical insurance is hard to understand. I work with billing and coding departments all day long. They should of told you up front. I'm so sorry. The positive side is that you are strong enough to be on your fasting diet you can do this. You have the right mind set and your health is that much better in the long run. I have been telling myself you can't put a price on your health. Your worth every ounce. I am having my surgery June 28 in Mexico with a surgeon from San Diego because of the USA health cost out if pocket and plus he creates the banding that doesn't ever slip. I am super nervous but I know my life and my health will change making me feel so much better. Keep in touch and good luck Kayleena

3 Days Post-op and regretting this
Losingit2018 replied to JPapenberg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is more important to get your fluids than your protein at this point. Try a different brand of shake. You can also get fairlife milk from grocery store and drink it instead of shakes if you just can’t tolerate them. I had no problem with the premier protein shakes pre op. Had my revision to rny last Friday and I am not able to keep premier protein down at all. I switched to syntrax and fairlife milk. Another thing is to make sure you are just slowly sipping your shakes. Like one ounce in 15 minutes or so. Go too fast and they will come back up due to lack of anywhere to go once your pouch is full. Hang in there and keep us posted. -
Diarrhea Ever Since Lap Band Surgery (sorry If That's Tmi)
oliversmomma posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone and Merry Christmas Eve!!! Surgery was Wednesday and I've had diarrhea ever since. Did this happen to any of you? Its just a huge annoyance because it's the kind that you have to run to the potty for and it's hard to move fast because of my incision pain. Just wondering if this is normal. -
I am so sorry to hear this. I don't remember your original post (sorry), but your symptoms seem so common to what many of us experienced post-op due to gas and bloating. So glad that you were able to get checked out & a treatment started. Best wishes for a fast and full recovery!!!!

I realize how incredibly tight my sleeve is when I read something like this. Two week ago I had a "bad" day.I was just so sick of watching every bite. I bought a 1 piece chicken meal (leg) w/ those little cups of cole slaw and baked beans. It took me the whole day to eat it. And I'm over 5 months out. I don't want people to take this the wrong way, but the further out I get, the more often I wish I could eat a little more. Yes, it sets you up for having to be responsible. But this deprivation is getting old. It sometimes feels a little prisionish to not be able to even eat a normal size grilled chicken leg. So try to look at it that way. Yes, you will have to be a bit more responsible to make sure you eat right. But you can eat. And a few months from now, you might realize what a mental health gift that is because I really sometimes feel like a prision of war. And as a side point, I am not losing weight fast. My body knows this isn't right. So if you have a larger capacity, don't think it means less or slower weight loss. It doesn't. You will be able to do fine with this. Just not perfect and unfortunately it sometimes seems a lot of people are all about perfection. I'm more about being at peace with my decision. -
See, I just don't know if what I am feeling is "normal"
TerriDoodle replied to Macro's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there - glad you are asking these questions! I would recommend that you stay with full liquids/mushie foods for another couple of days. When you start to add solids again, GO SLOWLY. At the very first sign of any distress, stop eating and consciously try to relax. I'd say if you continue to have this issue after 10 days, consider going in for a slight unfill. If it gets WORSE it could mean you've irritated your stoma with trying to get solids in too fast. If at any time you are having trouble getting liquids down, call your doctor. I am amazed at how many people will go days without being able to get liquids down and become dangerously dehydrated. DO NOT let that happen! Good luck! -
Pre-surgery anxiety, jitters normal?!?!?
beckyboop74 replied to mnbsleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I just got sleeved on Monday. You are perfectly okay to be nervous. It is a big operation and one that should not be taken lightly. But go through your list of reasons on why are doing this and weigh that against your fears. After that, think about what will happen if you let those fears get to you. If you do, then you will most likely have to have an operation in the future on one of the many diseases you already have or will have due to obesity. You have come too far to let fear get the best of you. I was nervous too but mainly about the operation - my mind had been made up that the operation was the right thing to do. The process was run smoothly and everyone was so nice that the process toward getting on the operating table was a breeze. It happened so fast, I didn't have time to really panic. It helped a lot before that I needed to not act scared or too worried because it would only cause worry and panic attacks for my mom and husband. It made it easier to be stronger, having to reassure them. You will probably feel the same way. I will admit I cried the morning after my operation because I was in a lot of pain and no one was around that I had to worry about worrying. The nurse was nice and just told me to get it out. I actually forgot about that now and just told my husband about it. It seemed so hopeless in that moment but I got over it quickly like it was a passing thunderstorm. But I got discharged by 5:30 on Tuesday and felt pretty good at home that day but still really groggy so I slept a lot. When I woke up on Wednesday, I felt like myself mentally and had a good amount of energy. Everything still hurts today but Tylenol takes the edge off when I really need some prescription assistance. I think it will be worth those two days if the sleeve helps me lose the 100+ pounds that I still need to lose. I am worried to a certain degree because I can really put down some liquids - more than I thought possible but in reality I am only doing 2-4 oz over an hour's time. I admit I am worried what the end results will be, that I will be one of those people who don't have much restrictions. However, liquids are different than other foods so I am sure I will feel A LOT more restriction after I move to them which will not be for awhile. I guess I should be glad to have gotten all my Protein in today! I'm sure your surgery will go well - I wish you the best and feel free to contact me with any questions. I may not know of them but I may remember someone who can answer it for us! -
I had my lap-band procedure on 11/20/07 w/ an 11cc band. I had my 1st fill today 6cc's. The fill was super fast & didn't hurt a bit :whoo:(just in case anyone else is as nervous about fills as I was)! My question is that I constantly have the feeling as if I need to burp, but I can't. Has anyone experienced this? This is similar to how I felt for the first couple weeks post-op also. I'm able to drink no problem, but I'm afraid to eat much. I had a 1/2 bag of weight smart oatmeal for lunch which made me feel full, and I'm holding it down no problem. I'd like to hear advice on eating just after a fill.

I just went to the Dr. yesterday for a fill and they did a barium swallow because I've only lost 7lbs since Jan. Come to find out I have a diated esophogas! I feel like such a loser. I obviously have been overeating and I also drink water really fast which I guess is a no, no. So now they have taken fluid out so my esophogas will heal. In the mean time I am eating soft foods and really trying to listen to my stomach signals so I'll know when I'm actually hungry. I'm frustrated because I don't think I know when I'm hungry. Does this make any since? Help!!

1 month since surgery Stuck for one week at same weight
finediva replied to mamaneec's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes you will be stuck for longer than a week. Try a month! Yes, in October I stayed the exact same weight for the entire month. It's behind me now and so will your stall. Keep with the plan. I still struggle with water intake at 5 months out. But it has gotten better. Also, if I drink water too fast, I get heart burn. -
Definately get an attorney! Also if you get worse you need to go to an emergency room pronto! Know this: The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) is a U.S. Act of Congress passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). It requires hospitals and ambulance services to provide care to anyone needing emergency healthcare treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. There are no reimbursement provisions. As a result of the act, patients needing emergency treatment can be discharged only under their own informed consent or when their condition requires transfer to a hospital better equipped to administer the treatment. Also you since you can't get any answers file a complaint with the Joint Commission on Accredidation of Hospitals at www.jointcommission.org The infection you contracted while undergoing a procedure/admission is called a nonsocomial infection and is considered a reportable sentinal event by JCAHO. Go to their homepage and on the bottom left hand side there is a tab that says report an event. DO IT! You will type a 1 to 2 page narration of your experience. Give the Dr.'s name and the hospital name. They will lauch an investigation and it will be fast tracked if the hopital failed to file a voluntary report. You may do this anonymously or submit your name. If you chose to submit your name they will contact you with further questions and also inform you as to the outcome of the investigation findings and any sancations they impose. Also know that Joint Commission is NOT a government agency. They are an independent agency founded to ensure hospitals meet standards of care. They are an agency made up of medical professionals and their goal is to ensure protection of patient care. They will not ignore your complaint or sweep it under the rug. Also if you go the attorney route the final report from the commission will strengthen any case you have. I hope this helps and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Perhaps A Disgusting Topic But Advice Always Appreciated
Lilee84 replied to gettinthinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The foamy saliva is what we usually refer to as the slimes/slimys. It's totally normal. In my experience generally happens when you eat and drink at the same time and your sleeve is full or if you've eaten too fast. -
Hi there! Thank you so much for your response. A few people advised me to try intermittent fasting, so I'm taking a stab at that while also reducing my overall caloric intake and bumping up my exercise to a few days a week and even multiple times a day. Nothing extreme, just doing a 30 min walk on my lunch break during the day and then a work out at night after work.

Difference between Isolate and Protein powder?
warrior68 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can anyone explain what the difference is between whey Protein powder, and Isolate Protein Powder? I can see by the label that the Isolate has a lot more protein, less carbs, and more calories than the regular protein powder, but is it worth the difference in price. The links below are for a protein company that I have use in the past... about 10 years ago when I was really into working out the people who really knew their stuff recommended and used the econowhey by sci-fit, I used it, it taste great, and was fairly cheap back then. Fast forward ten years I google sci-fit and see the company has gotten much bigger and now has a lot more choices. I am tempted to order the Whey isolate even though it has twice the calories, I will use it as a Meal Replacement (breakfast) and to make sure I get all my protein in for the day. know this company does not make false accusations about the stuff in their products because years ago they used to have a deal that if bought the product and took it to be analyzed, and it came back with less protein or more carbs they would write you a check for 1500.00. Long story short I know they make good tasting stuff, and they are a stand up company, bummer is it has to ordered over the internet because I cant get it locally. Sorry to ramble on so much, back to the original questions. Other than the obvious stuff we can see on the label is there a difference I should know about when buying the Isolate rather than the faithful old EconoWhey? Is Isolate good for bariactric use? Has anyone used Isolate? Here are the links Econo Whey PDF of Econo whey label Isolate Whey PDF of Isolate Whey Any info would be great. -

Disney World.... Help....
Becca R. replied to kekmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@kekmom You are going to have the most wonderful time!! I absolutely love Disney World. Here is my advice, for whatever it's worth: Take a Camelbak with you so that you can sip, sip, sip your Water. Keep in mind that you can get water refills all around the parks and they cost you nothing. There is also a wonderful First Aid station and they have beds in cool rooms; you are welcome to go there and lay down if you ever need it or feel dehydrated. There are beautiful places to sit and watch people all around the parks. My favorites around the Magic Kingdom are near the Crystal Palace looking toward Cinderella's Castle and taking a ride on the Liberty Bell to Tom Sawyer's Island. In Epcot, you can choose the soft lawns in "France", the manicured gardens in "England", or the trickling fountain in Morocco. Magical. We have tiny kids, so we get reservations for Breakfast in the parks for an hour before opening. That means we are in the parks before they even open, and deal with far fewer crowds. (I hate crowds.) Being post-op, you may still have trouble standing in line. If you go to the Town Hall they will give you a Disability Access Card. It kind of works like a fast pass. There are kiosks around the park where you tell them what ride you'd like to ride, and they give you a time for that ride. It, again, saves exhaustion and will help you get through lines much faster. With our kids, we go in the morning and then leave after the parade in the afternoon for a nap break, and then come back in the evening for parades and fireworks. If you want to avoid the crowds, park at the Polynesian Hotel and take the monorail over to the park. *Right* after the parade, jump on a ferry back to the Polynesian and watch the fireworks from the beach. It's free, it's gorgeous, they pipe the music over. Perfection. Epcot is the most scooter friendly park. Animal Kingdom is the least so. Magic Kingdom is built on a hill (Fantasyland is at the top of the hill and it slopes down from there). Just go and enjoy yourself. Your energy level is going to pick up so much in the next couple weeks, and you are going to have the time of your life!! --Becca -
How do you get over the head issues?
WASaBubbleButt replied to Maurdan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sheila... There is nothing "easy" about the band. NOTHING! The difference is that this is the kind of hard WE can do. Get a fill and when your band is functioning then you can expect results but right now it is like you just bought the most expensive tires on the market for your car, let all the air out of them, and you are questioning why your car won't go fast. Give your band a chance to function before you get frustrated and NEVER say this is easy or you thought it would be easy. It's not easy. But we can do *this* unlike traditional diet/exercise. -
Melissa I can soooooooooooo relate. I feel like I have been stuck in the 240ish range for the last 10 years. When in fact it has only been for the last month. But it seems like a lifetime. One thing to remember is that yes your friend lost boat loads of weight fast but the key word there is FAST. This slow sometimes agonizingly slow process is the safest way to lose. It doesn't make the lack of scale movement any less tolerable. Take this time to look at the victories that don't require we measue the successes with a scale. You already mentioned the decrease in clothing size. What about walking without getting out of breath. More energy. Fitting into a chair without feeling like you are squeezed into it. Feeling sexier. Looking healthier and feeling healthier. Go get a manicure or pedicure and pamper yourself. Take a day or at least 15 min for YOU. Give yourself the praise that you deserve. We are all special and we will succeed at this journey. It will come Melissa. I have faith in all of us to accomplish our goals. It will come.

I was on liquids for 3 weeks this is part of a post I put on another thread, I think you'll be amazed at how easy it is to find Protein. Cream of chicken Soup made with milk or chicken broth, ran it thru the blender and strained it, I made this up 2-3 cans at a time, strained it and put it in my refrigerator, so I could just pour a cup and microwave. Slim-Fast High Protein, chocolate was my favorite. All the Campbells Condensed Soups can be thinned down enough to strain. I did a lot of the bean one (Beans are high in protein). EGGNOG -- OH MY GOSH, I Love that stuff. But you want to watch its high caloric value. MILK, lots of milk, chocolate, white, strawberry you name it. (8+g of protein per 8 ounces) HOT COCOA was my salvation, bought the sugar free mix and made it with Milk to get the protein, I added flavors to that too. JAMBA juice --- I watched what I choose, tending to stay to the peachy ones, and asked them to "blend the hell out of it". My doctor also suggested Orange Julius drinks. Both of which you can ask to have protein added to. I didn't do many of the mixes, but greatly disliked the Myoplex stuff, YUCK. Carnation instant Breakfast worked too, but it didn't have enough Protein for my liking. Best Luck, welcome to an awesome journey. :-) ~ Erica
