  1. Sleeve nov 2016 highest weight 277 lowest 150 in August 2018 gained 29 pounds since August. Was put on Zoloft for anxiety last spring. Had maintained weight for over a year. Didn’t change diet or exercise. Anyone else experience this?
  2. Hello I had my surgery on Feb. 11, 2019. I have lost 41lbs. I also take a couple of medication that cause weight gain. Mine is coming off slowly, but I am glad I am losing. Hang in there! [emoji4] Sent from my LG-TP260 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Immediate Weight Loss

If you really think about it, and I’m not being sarcastic, you couldn’t physically gain 5 pounds of fat in a week right? So it had to be fluid. Every person who panics about weight gain after surgery needs to remember that it’s not possible to gain fat if you’re not eating and if it’s that rapid (5-10 lbs in a week)
  4. My cheating ways can get me in trouble quickly. I’m years out. It’s crazy that a few days/weekends in a row of indulging can bring weight gain on fast. Then its painfully sloooooow to come off. I’m maintaining a ten-pound weight gain up and down the scale. This is my cheating life after goal.

    Weight Regain - Need advice

As always I love kathy's @proud grammy perspective The work does not end after goal. Many of us have experienced the emotions that come along with a weight gain. Shame, guilt, depression and feeling we have failed. Self-esteem can take a big hit. This is one of the many mental battles with weight loss surgery. Recovering can be counseling or reading books on manage stress/emotional eating and self-esteem. Topics on whatever issue you are working on...Would love to see a book club because most of us have these issues in common.

Dilemma on to do or not to do

@nssmia A thought, bmi 30 and over is obesity range, WIll lyposuction get you healthy long term or will you regain with that proceedure? I'm also concerned about all the posts recently about weight gain and revisions. Know there are many of us that bounce back from surgery with no complications and have kept the weight off. I had the sleeve in 2014. I reached goal in six months. I maintain in the 130's. Many people at goal or maintaining no longer need the support on this site.. the positive is not getting enough recognition. You will see mostly. People researching, new to wls complications, weight gain and a handful of vets that stick around I have a link of positive experiences to help balence out the other posts. It may help calm someone's anxiety. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. 'The connection between heightened concentrations of blood erythritol and the onset of weight gain/fat mass is not yet fully understood. It is uncertain if endogenous erythritol or exposure stemming from food leads to weight gain tied to erythritol.' Which means they see it, but don't know the actual connection, doesn't prove causation, just correlation.
  8. I really need a perspective on whether or not to have s sleeve. Bmi is 32. Weigh 200. 5'6" have 40# to lose. Already approved. Now having second thoughts. Not because of short term issues like pain, nausea, tiredness. really concerned about success after 2 years. I hear so many people commenting on revisions. Weight gain, etc. I'm trying to lose with weight watchers. It's a toss up of the sleeve vs liposuction in my tummy area. And arms. For contouring. Any comments appreciated. Question. For sleevers out 2 years and more, would u do it all over again Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app

    No weight loss

I'm not losing either. I had surgery 11 days ago. I actually came to the board today to see if this could be normal. Prior to surgery and the 2-week liquid diet I had lost 42 pounds on my own and then lost 7 more during the liquid diet. After the surgery I knew not to get on the scale for a while due to the water weight gain but I can't imagine that's still an issue 11 days out. I think I've lost ONE pound. Yes, how does this make sense when we're just eating water and protein? I've now added soup for the last 4 days, but I can't believe I'm getting more than 300-400 calories daily at most. I'm also getting in the 64 ounces of fluid daily. I'm exercising on the treadmill as well. It's pretty weird. One thing I'll add is that I've had a very low heart rate and blood pressure since the surgery and I wonder if it's possible that the body just shuts any sort of metabolism down while it doesn't know what's going on after surgery. I'll see my surgeon and dietician on Monday and hope to get some better answers then.

I keep seeing you can have sugar

I had a sweet tooth and that is one of the reasons why I had to have the surgery. My sweet tooth led eventually over time to too much weight gain that then that lead to sugar diabetes. Diabetes is a terrible condition. I watched the effect of diabetes on my mother. She developed wounds on her feet. These were not heal because of diabetes. For 10 years before her death, she had to exercise great care to prevent her wounds from becoming infected. Many people with diabetes have their feet amputated. So sugar in a way is a journey down a deep dark death spiral. After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I lost the weight and I maintained the weight loss and part of the reason why I maintained that loss was because I avoid sugar (in all its many forms) like the plague. I rely on artificial sweeteners and no calorie natural sweeteners. So I guess my question to you is "Have you tried no or low calorie natural sweeteners such as Stevia?"
  11. Hi everyone! I am approximately 9 weeks pregnant and feel super bloated and have already gained a few pounds and it is making me extremely nervous.. I had wanted to talk to my surgeon about my constant stall no matter what I was doing and my terrible reflux to get revision surgery prior to me getting pregnant.. now, I am not due until November, and was wondering how long after I give birth should I approach the revision? I am not going to breast feed due to my line of work and would like to have the revision done while I’m on maternity leave so I don’t have to take additional time off from work. Anyone do this or have any pointers? I’m super stressed about the weight gain :(

    Hydration and fueling issue Cycling

Century ride, that’s impressive Keep your bariatric dietician informed on your cycling. They will need to know where you are at with training. (distance, calories burned, workouts per week) As your endurance increases, your dietician may change up your food plan. (don’t try to fuel like an athlete it can slow/stop your weight loss.) Once you get to your athletic zone and your weight is closer to goal, Consult your dietician and a sports medicine dietician. Some things to try for hydration. Isopure zero carb Protein Drink/water.. Protein and hydration all in one. Purchase single bottles is more cost effective. GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. http://www.theisopurecompany.com/product/isopurezerocarbrtd.html Nunn tabs. Saved me from dehydration https://nuunlife.com/pages/products?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1d_e9J_d4QIVAcpkCh17CAltEAAYASAAEgI4cvD_BwE Hydration vest. it’s easier for me to take small sips on the bite straw during a race. I still cannot gulp. What works for me may not work for you. I never carb loaded until I was closer to goal. Some things I learned about fueling along the way. I only carb load and increase calories on half to full marathons. (I cycle to cross train) With a small stomach, it takes eating seven days pre-race to fuel glycogen stores. I eat low glycemic carbs with my protein. Find foods and hydration your stomach can tolerate. Your food tolerance may be different than mine I use liquid carbs (powder form add to water) I cary it in a baggy and add it in my running vest for fuel. I am carb sensitive. Carb loading is a necessary to stay healthy but, I will see a weight gain. I go back into weight loss mode after I recover.

    Gastric Bypass - Help?!

After Gastric Bypass surgery, I lost 120 pounds (8.6 stones) within around 7 or 8 months after surgery. One of the advantages of this surgery (RNY gastric bypass) was that I completely lost my hunger. It was not difficult to lose the weight when you are not constantly hungry all the time. Eventually after about a year the hunger returns but it is not as strong as before. A picture is worth a thousand words - so here is my before and 6 month after - photo comparison. Initially the weight loss is rapid but as time goes on it slows down and then eventually stops and a person transitions into the Maintenance stage. In this stage the goal is to maintain the weight that has been lost. There is also something called the 20 pound bounce. Many individuals will gain around 20 pounds back from their bottom but it is important to not let this weight gain accelerate beyond this bounce.
  14. Hello... thanks for the advice... this would have been my first missed appointment out of the entire 6 months I guess that's why I am upset because I had 6 months and now a 10 pound weight gain at the end, nonetheless I will go to my appointment. May bypass

Hello everyone. I’m so glad to see this forum. I’m planning a revision to the mini bypass as well. I was originally sleeved in 2013. As with everyone else, I’m plagued with heartburn and weight gain. I’m planning to self pay and return to my original surgeon. I’m hoping to have my surgery sometime this summer.
  16. Hello all.... I have my last appointment (friday) before my paperwork gets submitted for approval. I had a recent doctors appointment and I could not believe the scale. I gained 10 pounds since my last month bariatric weigh in. I believe the weight gain came from self sabotage knowing that my last appointment was coming up. I found it very hard to stay on track. My weight has fluctuated during this whole 6 month process but the 10 pound weight gain would put me right at what I started at 6 months ago. Im Thinking about cancelling my appointment and giving myself a week or two to really push myself and see how much weight I can loose before I do my last weigh in for my 6 month requirement. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? FYI my insurance doesn't say anything about weight gain, but the doctor suggested that I be under my starting weight for insurance purposes and showing active participation in the program. I'm very upset with myself to get to this point and now this. Thanks Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Birth Control Post-Op

I was on Depo on and off for years. I loved it. I gained weight while on it, but my lifestyle changed during that time, so can't pin the weight gain on Depo. But I decided to go off it permanently due to the effects on bone density. https://www.nwhn.org/depo-provera-and-bone-mineral-density/ Just prior to WLS I also switched to the Mirena IUD, and have been very happy with it for the last year.
  18. Too many kids

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

Had surgery in January at 53 and menopausal. Have now lost 61lbs in 3 months so very happy. Hopefully no more monthly cycle water weight gain. Best thing I have ever done

    Birth Control Post-Op

I had the Mirena IUD put in me before surgery and have not had any problems or weight gain. Good luck and God Bless.
  20. Hi ladies! Has anyone had any experiences with getting the depo shot post-surgery? My surgery was Nov. 23rd, 2018. I'm terrified of the weight gain aspect and I was thinking of switching to the patch instead. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank-you. ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

DAY 14: Declutter. I'm doing a "mental" declutter. I'm throwing out all of the negative thoughts I had when I had a weight gain. I thought I had prepared myself for any situation with this WLS. The gain hit me hard, because in the past I would say just forget it and keep eating. Regain all of the weight back. I'm definitely not going to fall back into that pattern again. I started over, writing down everything I put in my mouth. Got rid of the protein crisps and cookies. Not going to jump on the scale yet. I still have some more mental decluttering to do.
  24. Hey there. First congratulations. Second I’m in a similar situation. 8 months post op and coming up on 6 weeks. I’m still in shock. Although I haven’t hit my goal weight, the weight loss has stabilized. Im planning on continuing to eat healthy and exercising to minimize my weight gain. Doctors recommended no more than 15lbs which is okay with me. Obviously this was not planned but is welcomed none the less. I pray you have a safe and stress free pregnancy.
  25. You should be ecstatic. Pretty amazing when you hit goal, Right? Goal weight is a personal choice. Find whatever weight you feel comfortable and healthy at. How I have managed to maintain? I think it has been the members that came before me. I’ve learned from the successes and mistakes. I am realistic that anyone of us can gain weight back. I had a gain my third year. I came back to the site for support. I’m back to maintaining in the 130s How is my sleeve surgery restriction? My restriction has become less over time. ***It’s nothing like pre surgery*** My maintenance plan is adding more calories and low glycemic carbs to slow/stop weight loss. I eat dense protein and as much veggies as I like to fill the extra room in my pouch, stay satisfied, and not go over my maintaining calories/carbs. When or if you experience less restriction with the sleeve. Watch for grazing/eating around your surgery. You will not feel surgery restriction if you eat small portions all day long (healthy and unhealthy choices) that total over your weight loss calories and macros. The sensation is as if you never had surgery. It’s a major cause of weight gain with any type of surgery. Some things you may already know or to prepare for in maintenance phase: It may be hard to transition out of the ingrained six months of “bariatric weight loss rules” Maintenance is a different mindset. Fear of weight gain can be an issue. Choose a weight bounce range to maintain. (I maintain ten pounds up and down the scale.) It may take some time to learn trust yourself and relax. Find your balance. Know that you can work the bounce range and keep your weigh off. We get to indulge within reason and not feel guilty about it. If the scale moves up, get back in weight loss mode to bring it down. If you have a gain or need motivation to maintain, you always know we are here.
