Welcome to Bandland, MelAnne! Isn't the initial loss exciting?! As Tina said, it will slow down. The first time I only saw 1 pound lost in a week, I cried! *laughs* Youre doing wonderfully. Already up and out on errands, that's great. Just be careful not to over do, keep yourself hydrated, and get as much of your 60 grams of protein in per day as you can. I relied on Bean with Bacon soup blended until creamy to keep me from getting hungry. I also sipped a lot of chicken broth and vegetable broth. After so many cold protein shakes and water, I was dying for something warm and those things did the trick.

Hi , Sounds like you are doing great!! I am 4 weeks post op and i feel great.. I sometimes have the pain in the middle of the chest myself.. I hear you about the clothes.. I know it is hard to break old HABITS!!! but move those bigger clothes on to someone else. I don't have my 1st fill until Feb. 9th.. I can't wait.. I feel like i don't have much restriction myself.. I sometimes feel like i eat too much.. I have read the other posts and I know alot of bandsters have gone through the same thing.. It's so nice to know we all have something in common.. Congrats on the weight loss and keep posting.. Becky

Melissa, do not let the numbers on the scale discourage you. I too have been stuck and I know I have been doing great with me eating and exercise. I know I have lost inches regardless of what the scale says. Sometimes our bodies just need a break, when I stop and think about it, my body has lost weight every week for 10 months...thats a long time , the scale is just taking a vacation right now and Iam ok with it....the last few lbs are always the hardest to lose..you will get there, remember this is a journey not a race. You have been successful so far and Iam sure you will continue to be, your body is probably just taking a time out right now too .What you are feeling, just know you are not alone we have all benn there or in my case Im right there with you

Please forgive me beforehand as I have had a terrible week at work, a terrible week at home and it just happens to be that time of the month so my motivation and positive thinking skills are greatly lacking. OK, I know that 2-3 pounds a week is the average weight loss for lapband and that it is a tool and so on and so forth but don't you just feel discouraged sometimes? I am not saying that I regret having had this procedure versus the bypass but I have an acquaintance who just had the bypass the first week of January and she has lost more weight in the last 7 weeks than I have since my surgery in October. I really have nothing to complain about. I have greatly enjoyed buying some new clothes and discovering that not only do I not need to wear my size 32 stretchy pants and big tunic sweaters but that I am slowly enjoying showing off the goods every now and then in a low cut wrap shirt 3 sizes smaller than I was wearing. It's great to be "forced" to go out and buy some size 26 pants because my old ones are dragging at my feet and I'm afraid that one of these days, I'm going to get up from my desk chair and my pants aren't going to follow! I guess my problem right now is that since my last fill, I really haven't been able to eat anything without PBing or just feeling uncomfortable. Now I know the PBing is not good and I have an appt with my Dr. next week to address this but for all my suffering and lack of food, I haven't lost any more weight on average than I did before the fill. My other problem is the big 3-0-0. Ever since I hit that number after I had my baby, I've been downhill ever since. I think I just gave up, decided that I was not just "grossly obese" as one doctor told me but now I was morbidly obese. I mean, what more can be said to depress a person? But now I'm within an arms length of that number and yet it feels a million miles away. I feel as though it has taken me a million years to lose the last 15# when it only took a minute to lose the first 35. Because I'm still stuck here on the wrong side of that number, I feel like I'll be stuck here forever and it almost invalidates everything I've done otherwise. I know this sounds self indulgent and pathetic but I cannot tell you how really very depressed I am and I begin to feel like it's never going to happen to me and I'll be stuck in this 300 pound nightmare forever. Is there anyone else out there that has had these phases of ridiculous doubt?

5 weeks since surgery -- feeling depressed :(
jessicakolman replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys! Just to update you. I got an appointment with the doctor next monday to get another fill!! THANK GOD! I also decided to be a bit more organized and I'm planning out my food for the week each sunday. That way I know what I'm eating and how much. I've also commited to working out 6 days a week! If it's not at the gym it's on the wii-fit. -
Normal. The first three weeks were the most exhausting of my life. Just make sure you are getting fluids in. I literally had to rest after walking 15 feet.

My surgeon told me not to start the liquid diet until one week before my surgery. I shopped around for a protein powder that I liked and had one shake a day. What I did do in advance was to increase my protein and lower my carbs so I would be somewhat used to that type of diet. Cutting out the carbs was much harder than going on liquids. By the time I started liquids I was so excited that it wasn't hard for me...each day of liquids brought me closer to my surgery date! date! Good luck!

Hi, I did mostly liquids for a two week pre-op diet (64 oz water and two protein drinks a day plus a palm size dinner, half protein, half veggies). Had no problem moving to full liquid stage, but only had to be on it 10 days. I personally didn't have a problem staying on it at all. Everyone differs. Mushies is what killed me. I'd say you don't need to go on liquids this early. Do you have a one or two week pre-op diet? That should be enough to prepare you. I agree with GreginMI. What I did was make sure I stayed off refined carbs, rice, potatoes, caffeine and carbonated water before the pre-op. That made the transition to pre-op and after surgery a lot easier as I already was weaned from them and didn't miss them. Good luck!

Hi, I have had to have belly button hernia surgery in 2005 and then a hysterectomy in 2007 and last week another belly button hernia surgery. Was just wondering if all that scare tissue would make the sleeve surgery more difficult or make it more difficult to recover? I want to have the sleeve surgery but I am a couple years away from it. I just want to get all the information that I can in the mean time. Thanks everyone for your help.

I Feel Helpless...
PrincessDaffodil replied to PrincessDaffodil's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That is a good idea, Sarsar. Although, one reason I don't/can't exercise is because of my CSF (Cerebral Spinal Fluid) pressure headaches. They have subsided some this past week, so I think I should be able to walk on the treadmill some next week. With the heat outside, I'm sure it will be best for me to stay indoors! I just need to take it easy, because if I do too much activity my headaches will be back and I will be laid up in bed again for a week or more. They are one of the reasons I am getting weight loss surgery. Hopefully loosing the excess weight will balance out my CSF pressure again. But, I am sure that walking some will keep my mind off of things. Thanks for the suggestion. -
Good for you on trying Zumba!!! I love Zumba and go 2x per week! It's amazing to me how different the class is not that I'm 63 lbs lighter!! I can move faster, do more of the jumps, and just have more fun. Plus, since I'm moving faster and working more of a sweat, it's great! The routine that helped me when I wasn't at Zumba was incorporating cardio and weight training. My gym offered free sessions with a personal trainer, who was fabulous. She told me that weight training burns more fat than cardio, so it's important to do both. At this point, my typical non Zumba day is 45-60 minutes on a cardio machine (such as an elliptical or cross ramp), then 30-40 min with the free weights and machines. I've really been trying to tone my tummy and arms b/c I feel like that's where I'm going to have the most trouble with loose skin. Good luck in everything that you do. Something is better than nothing, so keep it up

4 days post op and hungry
Shells20 replied to Shells20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The diet plan that I was given says: Clear Liquids for 1 - 3 days, full liquids for 2 weeks: including stage 1 baby food. then pureed foods for 2 wks. By this time, I will have had an appointment with the doc about the first fill. I have been eating Chobani Greek Yogurt and drinking Special K20 drink. I still feel as though I need more protein. I did call the nurse today but she has not returned my phone call yet. -
Question for all Post Ops
Jeepchick42 replied to shawna29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My food bill is way less. I only buy for myself but I think last time I went to the store I spent $35 and that was 2 weeks ago. But I'm also still on soft foods so that makes a difference. Once I can eat fresh produce and salads and stuff I'm sure it'll go up some. -
What Leatha said. I did have my band slip. I was getting a lot of things stuck and was vomiting a lot. Two weeks of being unfilled fixed the problem. Nancy

First of all good for you! And I completely agree that group classes are the best way to go. I just got a gym membership too and I'm trying to take advantage of all the classes. I love love LOVE Zumba. It's so much fun and gets your heart going. I also really enjoy yoga. It's a much gentler exercise and just makes me feel good when I'm done. As far as gym equipment goes. I would just go to the strength training machines and get on them and do a few reps. My husband told me to aim for about 10 minutes on arms, 10 on legs and 10 on abs. Then go get on the elliptical for another 20 to 30 minutes. I can't start the strength until I'm officially 4 weeks post op though, which is a week from tomorrow But I think just having some kind of a plan before you go can really help. I know for me the main thing right now is to try and form a habit. Just go and do something, even if it's just for 30 minutes. Set a goal for yourself. I tell myself that I need to go 5 days of the week. I may only be able to fit 30 minutes in, but I need to do it. I'm hoping that it will eventually just be second nature. I've always hated exercising though, so like I said, I'm really trying to take advantage of the classes. They're more fun and it would be rude if you just walked out in the middle of it Hope I helped some!

I take a Zumba class once a week at my gym. I love it. It breaks the the monotony of regular exercise. It's fun and it's definitely a lot of moving. I have to agree about being careful because of some of the moves, can make you hurt yourself (knees especially). I try to do as much low impact as I can, but there is one song that I just love and cannot make myself do the low impact on it. I KNOW it's not good on my knees, though.

why do you need to shrink the liver?
Thunder629 replied to kurby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also if your liver is to big then it will be hard for the doctor to move while he's doing the surgery. The doctor who is doing mine said that he had a patient come in and if she hadn't done the 2 week liquid diet then there would have been no way he could have performed surgery, her liver was that big and he could hardly move it. -
A weekend of cheating and loving it!!!
angelface replied to TxChelsey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Tx., Congratulations on lasting 5 weeks on full liquids w/o cheating. Wow. I was only on for 2 weeks and that was hard. Enjoy your Mexican food! I think you deserve to treat yourself after working so hard. -
I was on liquids for 3 weeks this is part of a post I put on another thread, I think you'll be amazed at how easy it is to find Protein. Cream of chicken Soup made with milk or chicken broth, ran it thru the blender and strained it, I made this up 2-3 cans at a time, strained it and put it in my refrigerator, so I could just pour a cup and microwave. Slim-Fast High Protein, chocolate was my favorite. All the Campbells Condensed Soups can be thinned down enough to strain. I did a lot of the bean one (Beans are high in protein). EGGNOG -- OH MY GOSH, I Love that stuff. But you want to watch its high caloric value. MILK, lots of milk, chocolate, white, strawberry you name it. (8+g of protein per 8 ounces) HOT COCOA was my salvation, bought the sugar free mix and made it with Milk to get the protein, I added flavors to that too. JAMBA juice --- I watched what I choose, tending to stay to the peachy ones, and asked them to "blend the hell out of it". My doctor also suggested Orange Julius drinks. Both of which you can ask to have protein added to. I didn't do many of the mixes, but greatly disliked the Myoplex stuff, YUCK. Carnation instant Breakfast worked too, but it didn't have enough Protein for my liking. Best Luck, welcome to an awesome journey. :-) ~ Erica

I'm planning to continue the Optifast through the first few weeks, as it's nutritionally pretty complete. That's what the info I was given said to do and to supplement with some fruit juice, some vegetable juice like V8 and some drinking yogurt. Otherwise I'd be worried about getting what I need.

Glad to hear all is well! I am so close to 200 also, hoping to be under it in 2 weeks or so.
