    Pre-Op Concerns

I had the RNY, poop smell depends on what I've eaten, some days it's normal, other's... it's down right foul. I keep a bottle of Poop-purri in my desk for work poops. I'm using PatchMD patchs, my Vitamin D is low, but it was low before surgery (the joys of living in the north) so I take extra Vitamin D supplements, but all other blood levels were within normal ranges. For me, I was revised from the Band to RNY, I didn't have the choice for the mini. But between the 2, if the mini has more complications than the RNY... I would have chosen the RNY if I had the options.

    Hair Loss

Kat817, I have a very very similar story. It was nice to read a familiar tale. When my hair grew back after chemo, at least I knew what was happening. Nobody mentioned the possibility with the band. Thats what made me so angry. Not to mention that there still is no definitive professional explanation for it. Like you, I did EVERYTHING I was supposed to do. I took every suppliment known to man. I drank the disgusting tea, I rubbed on the lotions and potions, etc! Made me crazy! I am having revision surgery next week and will just expect it to fall out again. Oh well. Maybe its time for a change. Warmly, Christine:)

Help please. Is my band to tight?

Hi. I am getting ready for replacement or revision due to being left overfilled for several years. At this point I am completely unfilled in order to settle things down but the daily throwing up (not full vomiting but more than just PB) really took a toll on my stomach, esophogous, and nutrient levels. I'm just chiming in to wish you luck in getting this resolved and urge you not to wait too long like I did because other problems will result. Be persistent about someone figuring out what the cause is and listening to you. I have been unfilled now for a month and have maintained with just a three pound weight gain. It is worth it to feel like a normal person again and I am looking forward to moving forward this Thursday with a replacement band or revsion.
  4. Hi ladies, its been awhile since I last posted. I seen the doc. today and decided to have my band removed. I was scheduled for port revision in april and the week of surgery changed my mind. I should be having surgery in the next few weeks. I feel its the best choice. The past year and a half have been difficult, I was vomiting, burping excessively, coughing and basically unhappy with the whole thing. I'm still taking my Water aerobics class and have lost 10 pds. I'm getting stronger and now taking classes on saturday. they can vary from kickboxing, zumba, ect. ladies keep up the good work. Sandy

    Any Washington State Sleevers?

Hi All, I'm not near you but Spokane isn't super duper duper far away. I've been known to drive there once or twice! I'm in Olympia, WA and I was sleeved on October 7, 2013. It was a lapband removal--revision to a sleeve. I'm feeling really great. So great that I don't even believe I got my sleeve! I wish, wish, wish there was a support group here for sleevsters because I just don't know what I'm doing with this thing. I'm still on liquids until November 20, 2013 so that part isn't so fun but I'm back at work and doing my workouts and the incisions are all but gone. I really do feel good. Michelle Olympia, WA 43 yrs old HW 372 CW 188 GW 143
  6. Sorry Jane13. My profile had a few errors - never paid too much attention to it. I was not a lap band revision. My first and only surgery was the sleeve. I think it took me about six months to lose 120 lbs.
  7. I had an MGB in Tijuana with low BMI and am now below goal weight. Yeah! But I recently developed bile reflux, which is quite serious, so I will be revising to an RNY next month. If I had to do it all over again, I would go to Dr. Esquerra at Mexicali Bariatric Center for an RNY. I encourage you to contact him for a consult to hear what he recommends for you post-ESG. Even if you chose another MX surgeon, it is helpful to talk to 2-3 to ensure you make the right choice of procedure for you and your situation. Please remember that WLS is just a tool. It is a great way to reset your metabolic rate but all of the surgeries can be eaten around, leading to regain. You need to get your head on straight for long term success; you may find therapy a useful tool to help you address your emotional eating tendencies. Good luck.

Pizza at 7 or 8 weeks?

I am a year out from my revision to RNY and can only eat half a slice. I ate a full slice once that sent me down for 2 hours🤢🙁. I do however make pizza bowls and they are delicious !!! ( all the toppings sauce and cheese oven baked)
  9. no. The RNY is the stronger of the two surgeries, so I'm not sure why anyone would do that. there are people who revise from RNY to DS, though - and the DS features a sleeved stomach. So in that sense, yet. But just to a standalone sleeve, no. I've never heard that.
  10. I am wondering how common it is to have a revision from bypass to sleeve? I see a lot of the opposite.. I had my bypass done 7 years ago and lost 125lbs, got down to 145lbs, then got pregnant within the 1st year. I am now up to 215lbs and the dr said my stomach is still the right size but the opening into the stomach is very large now. They have suggested and scheduled this revision from bypass to sleeve for Oct 14th. Hoping to find others who have had this type of revision.
  11. I have never heard of that. Interesting. I have heard of endoscopic revisions (no cuts) for the gastric bypass that take less than an hour that are successful. Best of luck and keep us posted.
  12. It is unusual, and I would question how successful it would be for additional weight loss purposes for the same reason that I am skeptical about revisions in the other direction - VSG to RNY for weight loss. Metabolically, they are too similar to provide a major difference over the long term; short term one can expect some loss, typically 20 lb +/- some from the restrictive dieting required around surgery time (though a few outliers do report good results.) More common are RNY revisions to either tighten the stoma or resize the pouch, either directly or via a lapband, None of those procedures have a great record, either. The best results that I have seen with any consistency is to revise to a DS (duodenal switch) but that is a very complex surgery that few surgeons are qualified to do (though doing the DS from a VSG is quite straightforward for a qualified DS surgeon.)

    Sleeping on incisions

Thanks. Yes, every day gets better. This is revision surgery for me so I've been through this with the sleeve, but it was 2015 and some of the details are a bit fuzzy in my memory. I'm a side sleeper and I think after the first surgery I was able to sleep on my side after 3-4 nights. It seems like the incision pain went away quicker this time than last, although this time the gas pains lasted longer.

    September 25Th Sleevers!

Hi Sept 25th Sleevers. I had a band to sleeve revision done with unexpected hiatal hernia repair on the 25th also. Its nice to see there are others having the same things happen to their body at the same time as mine. This surgery is a totally different experience than my band was. My diet as of this morning changed from clear liquids & protein drinks to full liquids & protein drinks. My biggest problem is that milk based protein drinks seem to go right through me. I have tried lactose free and lactaid, sometimes both at the same time. For the most part, any dairy does this. Anyone else having this problem? Also, I saw a few of you were at Forest Park, is that in St. Louis? I was at Des Peres & had to spend 2 nights due to some unexpected (very scary now that I think about it) complications. Hope to hear updates from all of you soon.
  15. i was banded march 2008 and revised to a sleeve in 2010. i lost a total of 100 lbs and had a TT in may and they took 6.1 lbs of skin. prior to my TT i wore size 10-12 and now i wear 4-8, depending on where i shop

    Any Washington State Sleevers?

Hi all... kind of an old thread but wanted to check in & say hello. I'm from the Lynnwood/Edmonds area & had my sleeve surgery (revision from lap band) done on Tuesday. I'm only a few days post op but am looking forward to see what the future holds!
  17. @@Brian66 - Thanks for updating us on your progress. You revised from band to sleeve in 7/2010? How long did it take to lose the 100plus pounds? Your stats have lap-band - just curious.

Anyone revised from sleeve to bypass

I am getting revised from the sleeve 4/20. Severe gerd and esophageal dismotility. I have been wondering the same thing. Did your doctor give you any idea on weight loss? I know it will be slower, I kinda just want to loose the bit I have put on because of the limitation on what I can eat.
  19. Well, I’m pretty disheartened. My surgery was pushed from 8/8 to 8/29 to give my doctor’s office time to resubmit paperwork for an authorization for a hiatal hernia repair. My insurance didn’t approve the bypass revision so I may have to pay that portion of the surgery myself. I had already started my pre-op liquid diet so now that’s on hold for a few more weeks. I was so ready to have my surgery next Monday and now I just feel disappointed and frustrated. If I could afford to pay for the entire surgery, I would just to avoid the hoops I’m having to jump through to get this approved. I could use some words of encouragement right about now. 😢

    Sleeve to bypass hopefully

Oh I was hoping for the same. It really depends on what your insurance requirements are and what your surgeon or clinic requires. My insurance only required six visits with my clinic and I've been a patient there for 4 years, so technically I had already met the insurance requirements... BUT the clinic required a pre op info session, psych eval, and various lab tests. Time passed quickly tho. I think it took me about five months from first appointment for revision until surgery day. Best wishes!

    May surgeries!

Hello Everyone! My tentative date is May 23rd. I am in the process of trying to get a revision from a band to RNY. The request was submitted to my insurance on April 4th and on April 15th the medical reviewer for my insurance company responded with a letter approving my band removal. She also stated that while I am potentially a good candidate for a second weight loss procedure, she needs more information before medical necessity can be determined for the conversion to RNY. She requested to speak directly to my surgeon, she also needed more info on the amount of Fluid that had been added and removed from my band over the past 3 years (this was on a form that my former surgeon's office accidentally left out of my records) and she requested that I have a pre-op consult with the nutritionist to discuss my current dietary behavior and how that would change after surgery. My surgeon spoke to the medical reviewer on April 16th and I had a phone "consult" with the nutritionist on the 17th. I also had the coordinator from my former surgeon fax the missing info to my current insurance coordinator. All of the info was faxed over this past Friday, April 19th. Although I have not yet been approved, my doctor is confident that I will be, so I have been scheduled for surgery on May 23rd. I don't think I will fully accept it until I hear the final word from the insurance company, but after receiving a copy of the letter from the medical reviewer in the mail yesterday, it does sound as if she is leaning towards approving me. I am just so nervous.

    Is this a stall?

Thank God I found this post. I’ve been feeling guilty for wondering why my weight loss has stopped. My revision date was January 11 and have been stalled since January 31. The doc told me that the weight loss will be slower this time around and honestly, im feeling good health wise. Im not complaining but good to know its a bit common.
  23. Hi! I’m so sorry about your obstruction!! Holy moly! My surgeon said my sleeve failed me, as well, so I’m having the revision 8/8. Im not on clear liquids but I did start my liquid diet today! Im looking forward to moving on with my weight loss and getting rid of this horrible acid reflux!

    Surgery tomorrow - I’m scared!!

My surgery is also tomorrow and I’m feeling a lot of this too. I’m revising a band to gastric bypass so I feel like, I’ve dive this before, so why the heck am I so nervous?! I think for sure a lot of it is the Covid stuff, and for me it doesn’t help that my family pretty much ignored Mother’s Day yesterday, so I’m feeling sad and sorry for myself today which certainly isn’t the best head space to be in. I hope you will post again after surgery! I’m interested to know how it goes! I know we’ll be just fine and we can compare notes as we heal and get through it!
  25. It's not just the surgeons. Very frequently, it's the individual. You can counsel someone for 6 months about what to do/not to do, but ultimately it's that person's responsibility to comply and take care of his/herself. Some surgeons just do surgery and leave all the vitamins/protein/water talk to a nutritionist. But no matter who is dispensing the info, it's up to the patient to see it all through. No. There's a patch?? I'm pretty shocked none of your doctors told you about this option when you weren't able to keep your vitamins down! My doctor says it doesn't have the appropriate levels for a bariatric patient. However, she only does bands, RNY, and band/sleeve-to-RNY revisions, so perhaps that advice was specific to RNY. I dont have any problems with tolerating taste or texture in my vitamins. At this point in my journey, I'm able to tolerate small capsules. The only vitamins I have to take that have any taste are my chewable Calcium and chocolate chewable Iron.
