    Nausea

Greek yogurt and protein is great. You need to train your system to eat and utilize "good" food.
  2. Add in salads, lean meats and Greek yogurt if you need food. First three days will suck but you can do this!

    Advice

I was on liquids only for the first 3 weeks and even then could only tolerate 1-2 teaspoons of something like Greek yogurt or refried beans. I can't imaging trying to injest anything but liquid at 5 days. If it's uncomfortable for you, then don't do it. Just concentrate all your efforts on fluids and protein for now. If you are having trouble staying hydrated then talk to your surgeon.
  4. Hey Tina, I love Unjury. BUT, I do not like the unflavored one. I have tried to "just sprinkle" it on things and it changed the taste. I ordered a lot and I am stuck with the unflavored. For my protein shake I combine it with a scoop of peanut butter and chocolate soy milk, and that tastes really good. I find that if I use a little of it at a time then it's not so bad, I will sprinkle it on cream of wheat or oatmeal. Have you tried greek yogurt? I have found some that have anywhere from 12-16 grams of protein. I hope this has helped. good luck
  5. I had my surgery on 4/4/14. I had no problems drinking clear liquids and staying hydrated. On Saturday I moved to phase 2- full liquids. I was only able to drink 1 protein shake the whole day. It made me feel horrible. ( I drank it slow different times of the day) The shake sent me to the bathroom where I just gagged a few times, and also sent me to the bathroom for the "other end". Sunday I just suck to yogurt which didn't make me feel sick but it also immediately sent me to the bathroom. Yesterday for breakfast and lunch it was yogurt, which just rushed me to the bathroom. Last night for my family's dinner I made baked pork chops and boiled potatoes. I decided to break the rules and take a few bites of the pork chop. I chew it and chewed it. In about 45 min. I ate about a half of a pork chop and a couple bites of potatoes. The "regular" food stayed down with not sick feeling, and it didn't send me running to the bathroom. How strange is this?? Then I start getting paranoid after reading on the forums about people who went to have the surgery but the doctor didn't "really" do the sleeve. So now I am scared my doctor didn't really do it! Am I just being crazy???
  6. Ever since the first two weeks I gag on Protein shakes. I really only eat yogurt and cheese so maybe it could be a lactose intolerance, I hadn't thought of that. But even chicken hurts me.

    Hi Everyone!

Every doctor does it slightly different on the preop diet. My recommended a 10 day liquid diet. I could have some juice, cottage cheese, Protein shakes, and yogurt. I actually ate some turkey and boiled eggs too while I was doing it. It wasn't that bad, you just kind of have to remind yourself that you've got what your body needs to keep going. I would wait until I was super hungry and then eat something small and wait again until I was super hungry. Most days I only got in 400-500 calories. After the surgery: I remember I woke up in quite a bit of pain, but I was also super out of it. They actually had me awake while I was still in the operating room. As soon as I got to post op they started giving me drugs and I felt way better. I had a pain pump. Push your button. Push it often. And if it's not cutting it, ask for something else. I got what was in my pain pump and something for inflation too. From that point on my pain was tolerable. You'll have to do a swallow test in the hospital, and it's pretty gross but once you're clear from that you'll be on your way to going home. I got to eat clear liquids in the hospital. My worst days were my first 3 days home. I had trouble standing for more than a few minutes. Make yourself move around as much as you can. My husband was great during this time, he waited on me hand and foot and was always there helping me up, to the bathroom, in the shower ECT. I'm on day 8 now, I'm still tired and sore but I got my staples and my JP drain out today so I'm looking forward to getting back to normal. The best things you can do to prepare is to focus on eating slow, and listening to when you're stomach is full. Try to find some protein you might like, but remember your taste might change after your surgery. Also stock up on things you'll need when you come home, like your Calcium and Multi Vitamins.

    Liquid fast support

My stomach is growling as I type this. I caved last night and took a half avacado, table spoon of sourcream and milk and put it in the blender till it was super smooth. It was actually kind of fluffy like cool whip...but anyways. I ate a bit of that and it was soooooooooooooo good! I just can't take the sweet stuff all the time anymore. It's making me want to gag. hahahaha. So today I had a yogurt this morning and i've been drinking a bottle of water since then. I'm just dying to get past this liquid stage. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

    Banded on july 11

Def not normal.... hope you have contacted your doctor. I was banded July 10 and haven't had any issues with any thin liquids. Jello, pudding, and yogurt felt odd going across the band, but I've had no nausea or vomiting, and really no hunger either. Just gas pains in my shoulder and under my ribs. And of course soreness throughout my tummy, especially where my port is. Walking and still taking pain meds frequently (less medicine today though, only 3 doses).
  10. well, today I've eaten yogurt, a banana, a kiwifruit, crackers with cheese and a sweet biccie or two because they were on the table in the staff room (and teachers never pass up free food!!). So on the whole I eat carbs!
  11. Hello All: I have a few ideas in mind, but for those of you have returned to work - I'd like your advice. When I return to work Monday, I'll be on day 13 and want to make sure I shop for the right items to have at work and on hand. There's a lot of messed up food items in the facility where I work, from co-workers to the cafeteria and I want to be armed and ready! These are the items I'm told I can have and want your help with adding to it or making it easier for travel - I have my own fridge & microwave: Water, sugar free Jell-O, Sugar free popsicles, chicken, beef or vegetable stock broth (low sodium is a better choice) Crystal Light, Minute Maid Lite, Diet Snapple Reduced sugar yogurt, Sugar free pudding, Creamy Soups (cream of potato, cream of broccoli, cream of tomato) STRAIN ALL CHUNKS FROM SOUP; Protein shakes eggs – prepared any way, taking small bites and chew thoroughly. “Soft Cheeses” -cottage cheese. -soft cheddar, -soft mozzarella, Soy, Tofu, Hummus Mashed potatoes regular or sweet- limit your volume to ½-1 cup/day Cream of wheat; Cream of rice; oatmeal – No brown sugar or honey; Grits; Farina;

    MyFitnessPal

I use MyFitnessPal. Well... Just started again. I'm BigDaddyJG. I had my sleeve on June 25th. I think I'm doing pretty good. I get my Water in and Protein has seemed to be pretty easy. So far my day looks like this. Breakfast: - 8oz (takes about 30+ mins to drink) in a to go cup, of unjury chocolate w/ FairLife Milk and a scoop of PB2 Peanut Butter powder. That one drink gets my 55 grams of protein. And it takes great. - I wait 30 mins and start drinking a 12oz glass of water or Crystal Light drink over the next hour or so. - Then I'll eat a Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt. That is 15grams of protein. - Then more drink (I'm always sipping) - Then an 11oz Premier Protein shake (Choc) 30 grams of protein - Then drink - Then a 6oz Soup (pureed) for dinner (protein varies) - Then drink..... I'll snack on a suger free popsicle during the evening. I'm still in Phase 2 but I'll get it over 80 grams a protein and all my liquid and I have no issues so far. Best of luck.

    Four days post-op

I've decided to start this (yet another) blog to document what I'm going through after banding. So... here goes.. I was banded on June 30th overseas. The surgery cost $6,100, and was at the top center in the country, with a doctor who is the feature cosmetic and bariatric surgeon at a makeover show. Two of my cousins are his current patients, and they attest to his work. After meeting with him, the nutritionist, and the endocronologist last week, we decided to just go ahead with it. I was admitted on 6/30, and discharged the second day. By the second day, I was already up and about, granted with some pain medication, but still. The worst part of the experience was waking up from anesthesia, and choking on (???), and not being able to tell the docs about it. I actually have nightmares like that. So, that was truly agonizing. The surgeon came to check up on me the next day, and said that in order to save time, he had already put in 3 ccs in mine, and will fill it one more time prior to my departure in three weeks. I came home the next day, didn't feel like eating much, except for some clear liquids, soup, and custard and jello. The next day, I moved to solider liquids including yogurt, etc. By the fourth day (today), I'm still keeping some of the liquids, but already started with the mushy food. I am not having any trouble with the eating. Since portion control has always been a problem for me, and I'm seriously dreading PB'ing, I'm eating very slowly and chewing like crazy. I am eating very small portions, when I get hungry or crave something, I try to eat something healthy that would satisfy the same need (diet chocolate crackers for chocolate), and been drinking lots of water. So far, I have lost 10 pounds almost effortlessly. It really helps that my mom is near me, and she's watching what I eat too. I seriously don't think I could have done it without her. I'm worried that I'm not getting enough nutrition, but I'm feeling full most of the time, my hunger pangs are at a minimum, and I feel no discomfort, or low energy. I'm taking my vitamins, and I'm having plenty of protein. The port pain is the only one that hurts right now. Next week, I go back for my first follow-up with the entire team. We'll see how that goes. But, right now, I'm enjoying the weight loss, and I keep expecting the other shoe to drop. I hope it never does.
  14. Can someone please help me know when I'm full? I have had no problems drinking as much Water and Protein as I need, so I'm so scared that I've stretched my sleeve. I have been on pureed for about three days now. I've mostly eaten refried Beans with some melted cheese and Greek yogurt on top (boy, are they good!). I just heat up three tablespoons and eat that. I wouldn't dare eat another bite for fear that I'd rip my stomach open or some other horrid complication. I just really don't know how to tell if I'm full. I guess that may have been my problem for the last 50 years, but it seems like it's a really necessary skill now. I keep reading that I will know, but I haven't. (I haven't felt hungry either.) I don't know if I should try to eat more or keep measuring my food. If I should keep measuring, at what point do I up my intake? The surgery and recovery have been so easy, but I really need some answers on the amount to eat. I've emailed the nutritionist who works with my doctors in Mexico, but I didn't feel like I got a real answer from her. I've tried to find a nutritionist here who has experience with bariatric patients, but, so far, they all seem to be associated with a surgery program. They will allow me to make an appointment, but only after I attend a seminar describing the surgery that I've already had. I just read a post on here about someone who had to be sleeved twice because they left his/her stomach too big the first time, so now I have a brand new concern! :-) What if this is my problem?!?!? I'm really not usually such an alarmist, but I think the fact that I had my surgery in Mexico, and my insurance will probably not pay for complications arising from surgery outside the US, has me in fear. Also, I'm worried sick about my hair falling out, so I have protein on the brain constantly. Any advice, reassurance, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
  15. Between the gas and the diarrhea, is there any chance you're lactose intolerant?? Lots of people are fine eating things like cheese and yogurt but once they start living on milk and whey protein, they realize they have mild lactose intolerance. If you're using a shake that isn't 100% whey isolate, I'd try switching, and try making them with Lactaid milk or soy instead!

    Advanced!

Congrats on your weight loss you are doing great. From what I hear weight loss for dummies has all kinds of great recipes for every stage. I mostly stuck with creamed soups and Greek yogurt... But will say at this stage soup was my friend.. And still is.

    Binge-ing

I don't like Greek yogurt but its healthy.
  18. This is almost exact amounts for me too at almost 19 months out. It really varies from day to day, though, doesn't it? So weird how that happens! It does depend on the day. Some days I have "hungry days" and can eat more than what is listed and some days it's a struggle to get that much in. However, this is what an "average" day looks like for me with a few Snacks (nuts, yogurt, deli meat and cheese) thrown in the afternoon. Foods and Drinks?

What about Laughing Cow cheese wedges? They have a little Protein and are super creamy. That might work. Or sugar free pudding Snacks or yogurt with 1/2 scoop of Protein powder mixed in?
  23. @@MozzaWehsha rice is a big risk in the first severeal months because it can indeed get stuck. Might I suggest pureed chili with a dollop of low fat or fat free sour cream? Or perhaps pureed chicken, humus, and taco sauce (this one is addictive!)? Another favorite of mine (my puree phase was in the fall of last year) - greek yogurt, pumpkin puree, cinnamon/pumpkin pie spice. Deelish!
  24. I did have mashed potatoes--nice and pureed. And I am not a big fan but that was suggested and worked nicely. That and yogurt, sugar free apple sauce, ricotta cheese bake, and if you whip some cottage cheese so it doesn't have any lumps, that works, too. And tomato soup.

    My first post op meal

Ditto..after the 1st couple days I was hungry all the time. I finally just got to where I'm not at about day 10- getting used to being hungry I think. I went from 1/2c of watery soup to 1/2-3/4c of stout soup like uber thick homeade split bean and black bean. It worked- they are full of protien and fiber. I also drank a LOT of tea. I did the flavored herbals like haute chocolate ( a roobios and gingerbread spice. They were warm and great with a bit of milk and sweetener. They made me feel like I was eating a treat. I use agave necter in them too. It's some calories(like honey)but I read that unlike other sugars - you have no insulin response to it which then does not spike your hunger. I also started putting 2T of wheat germ in my more runny soups and told myself they were pulverized crackers! I also put wheat germ in my yougurt and make sure my yogurt is greek yogurt(thicker and 2x the protien as regular). It does help to fill you up, the fiber and bulk and it's good for you. I saw the nutritionist today for my 2 wk. f/up and she gave me a big thumbs up on continuing that. I assumed , however, that since I had bariatric vitimens I paid good coin for that they had in them all that I needed-[ WRONG. I am going to have to really watch that too. It does get easier every day though! I had to go to the store for my groceries for the week...$32.00- how kewl is THAT! And I got all high end organtic foods even! :tt1:
