  1. I ate creamed soups during puree stage. Creamy tomato bisque w parmesan was my go to. Otherwise i filled up on protein shakes and yogurt. I pureed a can of potato soup. No energy for homemade anything.

    PHASE 2 SOFTS

How many day post-op are you? It sounds like you are in the liquids phase now? My NUT gave me a list for soft foods that includes: mashed potatoes thinned with light milk alternative well-cooked yams without skin steamed or poached fish, moist tuna, ground chicken/turkey soft veggie burgers low fat Beans chicken - shredded and moistened with broth scrambled egg whites or egg substitute, soft cooked or poached (not fried) greek yogurt, cottage or ricotta cheese low-fat or nonfat cheese string cheese non-fat feta cheese applesauce (unsweetened) ripe bananas soft, canned fruit in juice (pour out juice) all soft, well-cooked veggies except fibrous ones like celery and asparagus, corn seasonings - herbs ok

    September Sleevers

Be Do Have that sounds great! I am at 14 days today and will start my transition to puree. Yay!! Love the baby bell idea and I plan to try laughing cow as well. I am concerned because if I eat yogurt or cottage cheese I can eat 4 oz without an issue. I hope that is not a problem for me. Keep up the good work!
  4. @@bakawaka - I have never tracked my total grams of sugar per day, but I do eat a couple varieties of Greek (because it contains more protein) yogurt; Dannon Light & Fit and Oikos Triple Zero, both of which contain 7 grams of sugar. As @@toasty mentioned there are some sugars that are okay and I have also been told by my nutritionist that the sugar in yogurt is one of them. So, sorry I do not have an answer, but you should be able to find yogurt with less than 20 grams of sugar if you are concerned about that amount. Good luck!
  5. My nut wants us not to have anything wtih more than 8g of sugar per serving. I break this 'rule' with my yogurt because there is only one brand/flavor i like. I try to avoid eating it daily. Otherwise I stick to it.

    Starving

At that stage I ate puréed soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, sf jello and pudding. My surgeon does not push a lot of protein right away, just try and eat. And heal. I would also drink chicken broth, Unjury has a protein one that I liked.
  7. Sorry you have to get back to regular life so quickly. Hopefully when you are not in school, you can rest and heal. I would drink your Protein drinks and add a variety of items as suggested above like high protein, low fat, low sugar greek yogurt, creamy Soups like low sodium butternut squash, clear Isopure and SF popsicles, etc. I know that I have prescription pain meds or I can take Tylenol for pain every 6 hours or so. You can do this.
  8. I am looking for creative food options for the 2nd week phase. Right now I am straining soup, drinking protein shakes and eating Greek yogurt.
  9. I don't know that I have ever heard anyone indicate the maximum grams of sugar per day. And I know that not all sugar is created equal, so to speak. Generally, sugar found in milk (lactose) is not as much of a problem as say table sugar or high fructose corn syrup, so I wouldn't worry about the sugar in Nonfat Greek yogurt. Other yogurts may have added sugar, though. Also, although fructose and sucrose can be a problem, in fruits with a high level of Fiber (such as apples, for example) the sugar is not really a problem. So the answer seems complicated, and I don't really think there is a simple "no more than X grams of sugar" answer. Generally, I follow the rule of very little ADDED sugar, or very little sugar from low-fiber products.

You know you lost weight when

@@4MRB4PHOTO OMG - you made me snort my greek yogurt and chia seeds. That was hilarious!
  11. I did the same thing except I used greek yogurt (13gms protein) and almond butter.
  12. You are doing great! I know it is hard not to feel down right after surgery. I had to force myself to eat and to walk...but I kept doing it, knowing it would be a temporary struggle. I was allowed to eat non fat greek yogurt, fat free cream soup (strained), SF popsicles, SF Jello and pudding, Protein shakes, sf applesauce (toss in some powdered milk and dilute), diluted cooked Cereal like cream of wheat, oatmeal or grits (but my pouch hated the cream of wheat). Do as much walking as your body will allow...that was the only thing (other than the PPI doc prescribed), that got rid of the gas and stomach pains. You are not alone, and you do have this!!! Hang in there!
  13. Looking back at 3 months out my diet was very limited. I had various Greek yogurts, chef salads with light dressings usually a Italian or vinaigrette, also shrimp with steamed vegetables. As far as chicken I could only tolerate hibachi chicken strips or chicken wings at the time. I also ate a small amount of berries on some days. Good luck

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Hello all!! I am a nurse in central Florida. I've been a nurse for 8 years, first as a bedside nurse on a surgical unit, then team leader and most recently manager. I was just sleeved on 10/8. I am still on liquids and having a hard time with the protein. It is so thick and gives everything a funny taste. I don't like yogurt so the only thing I really enjoy that has protein is my instant breakfast. After two weeks of pre-op I am having a hard time stomaching the protein shakes!! I went in GNC the other day for some suggestions on how to get the protein in and to look at the Isopure stuff. The guy that worked there was such a jerk- do you ever feel like if you were skinnier you would get much better service? So I am still confused on how to get protein in being on full liquids.. Anyone have any suggestions? I am looking forward to starting my journey - glad I found some nurses to share it with !!

    Day 2 and very week

I am doing much better. Thanks for the soup straining idea. I am 1 week tomorrow but I started Greek yogurt, creamed soup, and sugar free pudding today.

    Nutrition plan share away.

My first week was clear liquids so I used premier protein (my surgeon allowed this as an exception to the clear rule), and ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate. My second week was full liquids (which also included Greek yogurt and cottage cheese). I also used ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil soup.

    Question from a pre-op

I'm gonna add this because I see soooo many folks having trouble with constipation. Wheat germ, flax powder or psyllium powder. A tsp added to a shake, yogurt or applesauce should help keep you regular.

    Nutrition plan share away.

Thank you all. However my surgeons suggestions are if it matches the consistency than u can go with it. Cream of wheat is way tom heavy and has zero nutrition. I am against caned food so fresh Miso Soup is full of protein and it's like water. And being I'm trying to get out of diabetes having a drinkable yogurt loaded with sugar is not a good idea when cultured milk is a natural praboitic with protein same consistency as yogurt even thiner. I would say look further for much better items and ask your doc those are just few suggestions they put on paper.
  20. What is on your food plan? You can add wheat germ, flax powder, psyllium to food on a soft diet. They are all excellent forms of fiber. Especially when added to high Protein foods like yogurts. They can also be blended into Protein shakes. Make sure you are getting in ALL your fluids since that will help with constipation as well.

What do you eat in a day?

Today I tried to do better. I feel so full and the day is not even over! Wow I'm not used to eating like this. My NUT told me today that she saw me at the gym last week and was shocked that I have the body of a 14 year old boy. She feels I've gotten too thin to say the least. I don't agree but I know I'm close. She wants me to have a carb at every meal. So I tried this: 1. Breakfast Half a bagel (going to switch to whole grain tomorrow) Light cream cheese 2 slices turkey Tomatoes 2. lunch Lettuce Parmesan cheese 1/3 can of tuna 3. Snacks banana Beef jerky Yogurt 4. dinner 2 Meatballs salad (lettuce, kale, carrots) Dressing Avocado 1/4 cup wheat Pasta Feel like I'm going to explode!! It's a process. Going to take some getting used to!!

    Hungry a lot!

I find myself hungry at lot and it is starting to bother me. Need some advice. I usually workout for an hour 5 to 6 days a week, running 3 or 4 of those days, walking and weight training the other days. I eat but I am hungry a lot. Here is my typical food day. Breakfast (before working out): A banana, Protein bar, yogurt, a piece of Jerky or two boiled eggs. I try to drink a little Water but not enough to fill me up. (Can’t workout on a full tummy. Learned that the hard way. LOL!). When I get to work, I will have a yogurt or smart one egg breakfast sandwich. A little later I will drink water. I usually have a cup of coffee (sometimes two) before noon). Snack: Jerky, applesauce, Protein Bar, plain Peanut Butter or nuts. (Sometimes I forget to eat the snack) Lunch: Tuna or grilled chicken breast on top of some lettuce or a small salad or some leftovers from the night before. Afternoon: Drink more water; a Protein shake, nuts, rice cake or cheese/crackers Drink shake or water on the way home. Dinner: Whatever I cook. Maybe fish or chicken and veggies. Will eat a few roasted potatoes or a few mouthfuls of rice sometimes but I try to stay away from bread and rice as much as possible. Late night snack: Nuts or yogurt or jerky and water I will eat some chips or chocolate covered peanuts every once in a while as a treat but not often. Even with all of the water I drink, I am hungry a lot. I eat everything on a saucer. What doesn’t fit, I don’t eat. A lot of the time, I will eat 3 or 4 ounces of meat and leave the rest to nibble on later. What am I doing wrong? The scale is not moving but I am working out like a mad woman.

    I HATE protein shakes

Could you make a smoothie with yogurt, milk, and some liquid egg whites...maybe some fruit? They are pasteurized and 3 TBL has 5g of protein. I used to add liquid egg whites to my green smoothies and couldn't taste them.

What do you eat in a day?

I'm very basic and simple. It's only hubby and I, so I don't get fancy very often. Breakfast: Protein shake or eggs and turkey bacon on the weekends Lunch: Tuna, chicken, or seafood salad or lunch meat roll up with lettuce or tomato. Very rarely I will make a sandwich with whole grain bread. Snacks if I'm hungry: Nuts, yogurt, cheese sticks, Jerky or fruit. Dinner: Protein like fish or beef, chicken or pork (prepared different ways) and green veggie or salad. Ta Da!
