    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hi March 2008 Bandsters! I was banded a year ago and wanted to shout out "HI" to you all. Sometimes a few of you drop into our forum to get a glimps of what life will be like a year from now. It gave me the idea to come here and share. Hope you don't mind. For the most part it is fantastic! I'm not going to sugar coat everything and say it's always easy because there are times when it certainly is far from easy. But never have I've lost weight like this and I know deep in my heart I'm going to see my goal weight. Some of the hardest times are shortly after surgery, when you don't have restriction or when your body hurts from being cut and poke around in. But it gets better. You'll be surprised at the changes and more importantly how the changes continue. Just yesterday I got up on chair to change a light bulb, I felt confident and balanced and it was easy! An odd NSV, but one none the less. They keep happening, those NSVs. I'm so excited for you all and your new journey! It is thrilling! Congratulations!

    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

Congrats on all these wonderful NSVs!!!! Mine is pretty typical, but I was thrilled nonetheless... I had purchased a skirt online over 2 years ago. Sadly, when I got it, it was waaaayyyy too tight, couldn't even barely get it over my hips. Well, this weekend I was cleaning out my closet, throwing away clothes that were now outdated or too big . Anyway, found the skirt, tried it on for kicks - I just knew it would still be too tight because I have been steadily gaining since I bought it - but it fit!! And it was a comfortable fit too!!! Love my band!!!

    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

My newest NSV, is one I can not believe!!! I have been friends with this gal for 20+ years. We have neither one been tiny in that time span---but she has always been within normal size in my mind. She has never had to make the jump to Plus size clothes... so the other day she pops over and brings me 2 bags ---garbage bags full of clothes she has outgrown to see if any of them will work for me! I am getting hand me downs from a friend I always considered normal! And I tried one on, and it was too big! The shoulder fell off! Another now, was too tight across the boobs--she has never been as well endowed as I am....dangit! I am still in shock! Kat

    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

Love love love reading everyone's NSV's!! I had one last week. I went to Target on my lunch break just to browse/kill time and as I wondered over to the clothing area I of course started walking towards the "Plus" area. I stopped myself and went into the regular (or whatever the heck you call it) size area and looked around. I tried on a few tops and they fit! I bought one and was thrilled that I can start shopping in the other area! All those clothes that have been off limits for so long! Oh the selection...it's mind boggling.

    Lap Band Perspectives

Lizzie: You have accomplished a lot in a very mature way. Good for you! Haven't we all been succesful and what a change in attitude for me. I was so miserable before having surgery. My weight kept creeping up and several years ago, I followed a weight watchers program on my own, no meetings and lost 30 pounds. It took me TEN MONTHS! Within 4 months half of it was back. I checked my ins ( a year ago FEB) and found out our policy covered WLS and attended a seminar, had a consult with surgeon, pysch and nutritionist. When it came time to submit to ins, I found I did not have the required five years of documentation. I have been overweight way more than five years, but didn't have the proof they required. Appeals, denials etc, ate up almost seven months of time. I got tired of it all and my husband and I decided we would self pay. DH is so great and VERY supportive. He saw how hard I struggled to lose that thirty pounds. I managed to keep off 15 of the thirty pounds by the time surgery finally came ( those 15 are not included in my ticker). Ticker starts at weigh in at pre-op visit. I am still struggling to get good restriction, but I am thrilled to death at the 32 pound weight loss. I have not weighed 184 pounds in at least twenty years or more. I've almost emptied my closet of the old clothes and I feel so much better and more confident. One NSV is, I hardly ever spill any food on my shirt anymore. I guess it's because I can bend over the table better, now that my stomach is down. I don't see my own "rear view" much, but my husband constantly tells me how much smaller my butt is. It's so nice to be able to go into a store and find something I LIKE to wear instead of just anything that fits. Not buying much tho, like the rest of you, I intend to get smaller still. So many little victories, but they all mean so much. A thin person could never understand these victories and how much they mean. Congratulations all fellow November Nymphs!!!!! 6 lbs to get to the 50% mark! Thanks for starting this Cindy, great idea.
  9. Ms.Tracy--I may just have your answer!! I was just given a bunch of shirts---and the woman who gave them to me is smaller on top than I am, and also shorter. So I plan to go through them here the next day or so-----want me to forward the rest for you to go through? She has some nice ones, some I know we will not want in general, she went through a stage she dressed "older"! But in general---what I have seen looks like normal everyday shirts! She has put on too much weight to wear them....and handed them off to me----that in and of itself is an NSV if I ever had one!!! Let me know. Is there a style you prefer? I mean, I like longer V necks.....as a rule....but for years avoided stripes, and big prints, and am kind of now thinking WTH!!! LOL Laura----all of us with husbands, kids, parents, best friends--know what you are talking about. I DO come here and speak highly of my DH, I also come here and complain. With those we love whatever the relationship, we are free to say what we want, no one else has that option! I can call my DH a jerk, but would be highly offended for someone else to, and I would not hesitate to say so.....you are free however to say he is ACTING LIKE a jerk----I am the only one who can comment on whether he is acting or not!!! Shrinkin' Violets- Part 2 Read Here

I just had a nice experience. I guess you could call it an NSV. I've been a pretty good little bandster lately (even lost another pound!) so I'm in a bit of a 'groove'. Anyway, i went downstairs to our deli just to get some soup for lunch. There's a girl in front of me who's maybe 5'2" and about 240#. I kind of lean over and am looking at the pretty veggies that are available....some asparagus and squash...and i say to myself, "MMM..those look good!" Well she looks over and thinks I"m talking about the huge cookies that are right next to them and says, 'Oh yes they do!"....and grabs one for herself. She's waiting for her California Burger to come off the grill, has this humongous cookie, a Coke and bag of Cheetos. I had a cup of sausage & vegetable soup and a side of veggies. I'm NOT being critical of her, 'cause lord knows that was ME a year ago! I just had a moment there where I recognized that I HAVE made some progress. Yea me!

    NSV's for the Merry Losers

i have had problem's fitting into the seats in movie theatres, hairdresser chair's, etc. Guess what. I fit. I'm so excited. My weight loss has stalled the last few weeks, but I think the inches are still flying off. I keep noticing my clothes getting looser and looser. it feels really good. My next NSV goal is to not only fit into the hairdresser's chair, but to also be able to close those jacket cover up's they give you. It doesn't protect your clothes if it won't close.

Regina - I missed the program - drats. I bet you looked great. Melissa - you are looking sooooo hot. Love the new avitar. You inspire me. Gotta get with it - almost time to make the drive to closing. Whew! I am ready to lose. Fill is definitely on the schedule when I can chew on both sides of my mouth. (second week of April) NSV - I've exercised to a sweat 2 mornings in a row. We won't mention other issues. I'm working on them. Have to admit getting my heart pounding has definitely cleared my head.

CONGRATS, to all who have had some great NSV's so far!! For those still waiting for one, it will come soon no doubt! And for anyone not having to shop in the Big Gals Stores, that is so great! I can't wait. I had a huge one over the weekend. Clothes shopping. I needed new clothes because I hadn't really done any extensive clothes shopping in say, oh, maybe 8-10 years. Embarrassing to say... I went through my closet and pulled out anything too big, and when I say "too big", I mean like size 3-4X tops. I've already long ago wasted my size 28's (snug). I started losing weight a few years ago, but maybe a size a year. That's why I chose to get the band so I can rid myself of the over-eating and hopefully reach my goal by this time next year. Anyway, I did keep most or all of my shirts over those years. They were so super huge on me now and I was looking frumpy and with outdated clothes from years and years ago. Needless to say, out they went. I was left with maybe 5 shirts! I had to go shopping. The good part to all this is, I fit very comfortably in a size 1X shirt, and some were even a bit big. I made sure all my shirts fitted nicely though. I came away with the GREAT sales deals too. I bought 30 shirts, 10 pants and 6 new pair of shoes. My feet have definitely thinned out. I can wear shoes I know my big feet would not have looked so cute in before surgery. My best part was though, that I can squee-ee-eeze into a size 18 now. I did buy some and I even picked up a few 16's. I don't think I paid more than $20 for any item. Except of course my shoes, and one pair of jeans. I bought some Apple Bottoms from Macy's Woman. I also bought a formal gown from Nordstrom Rack for only $47. It is so beautiful and good quality. It had no flaws that I could tell. It is a size 14 and I tried it on. I can get it on, I just can zip it up - but soon. I have it on my bedroom door for display, for incentive. It's working!!!! Keep it up everyone - let us know about all those great things besides the scale going down!

Here's my NSV: I went to a basketball game at Madison Square Garden here in NYC. The turnstiles, where they take your ticket, are quite narrow and were made decades ago when the average American was probably about 150lbs. Now, with a much *larger* population, a majority of the people going though have to turn sideways to fit through or they have to walk around and the ticket-taker manually pushes the counter bar. This past weekend, I presented my ticket and walked through the turnstile - STRAIGHT FORWARD! No sideways step to fit through, etc! I was so happy!

OK, I finally have NSV. Ok I may have had small ones before, but this is great. Over hte weekend, I painted the twins bedroom all by myself. My DH was doing other things in there, but I put the paint on the walls. Before, I would have just sat and watched. I'm sore today from going up and down the ladder, my way of getting extra exercise in. He tells me to just bring the can up, I tell him that will do nothing for my flabby ass. And the jeans I'm wearing today, a size 14, didn't fit me before surgery, today they are falling down when I walk. WHOOO HOOO! The only problem with that is we have to get the pool liner replaced, to the tune of $5K and that leaves little money for new clothes. Oh WELL, I'll buy a belt, haven't worn one of those in ummm EVER!!!!!

    Nsv

Good job! Those NSV's really feel great don't they?! I can't claim any this week (I'm actually up a lb). I was a total slug on the couch all weekend, so it makes sense. I think it's all emotional right now because I'm getting impatient and a tad disappointed about not having a job offer yet. I did apply for some more openings, and the one in SD could still happen (they just want to interview some others first), but it kinda zapped me out this weekend. I figured out that I need something besides the job hunt and upcoming move to keep me occupied and distracted from eating right now - that seems to be what helped me out on my trip (I was too busy to eat when I was in CA). I've packed or gotten rid of pretty much everything I can at this point without getting in the way of everyday life. No wonder I'm so dang antsy! Maybe a good long walk in the fresh SNOW (ugh) tonight at the dog park will help kick things back in gear (will definitely be fun watching poochie play in new snow). Anyway, I digress- nice work, all of you!!

Happy St Patricks Day everyone!! I finally had an NSV!! I wanted to wear something green today of course. I could only wear one blouse because they were all too big!!! My pants from Kohls I just bought are a 16w and the zip up perfectly!! Finally I am starting to see progress. Better late than never. I know returning to the Crazy Ates definitely gave me the motivation I needed. Thanks and enjoy your day!! I know I will!!!

Ok..here is mine. My pants fell down at the store today. I laughed, pulled them up and said I think it is time for some new clothes. I have gone from a size 34 to a size 26 and am almost in a size 24. I have hit all the smallest sizes in the closet. I am 2lbs away from reaching 50% of my weight loss goal of 179lbs. I guess to many NSV's lately. It is what keeps me going. Cindy
  24. We're Back! Had a very nice time @ bro in-laws house... the soccer games didn't go so well, lost the 2 yesterday, won the 1 today, but it wasn't enough to get into the finals so we came on home. Now it's time to gear up for the new week! Tried, tried, tried to be "good" w/food... did ok I think... am nervous to weigh in tomorrow but I must... Hi Lunasa... if at first you don't succeed, try, try again! Keep checking in w/us!! Fantastic job w/the no smoking, Tracy! Love the ring, Terry! If you're not feeling better, then go see a doc tomorrow, Laura!! A new pool! Lucky Suzie!! Great NSVs, Janie!! Glad the sleep-over went well, Judy. I can relate: there were 10 of us sleeping at my bro-in-law's! The kids got to all sleep in the playroom... talk about fun for them!! Hey Jen! How's the puppy adjusting, TracyKS? Everyone: Hi!
  25. I do look at my weight in terms of pounds lost, but increasingly more important are the NSVs that I'm having. I was wondering how important to you they are too. In this poll are ten NSVs that may or may not apply to you. Which do apply and how important are they? Please vote for up to three NSVs and let's get an idea of the most popular ones.
