    weight loss stopped

I'm just curious if you have read the threads on this topic and if your really feel the loss has stopped or stalled? You're right, the topic has been discussed at length and the information is still relevant and up to date.
  2. I had VSG with hiatal hernia repair.....surgery was on a Monday and I was working again the following Monday....but I work from home so I have a pretty easy time of it..............If I had a regular job I would have wanted one more week.
  3. Curious how long recovery time is afrer surgery? One week? Two weeks? Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

    Stretch marks

Moisturize moisturize moisturize. I've been using Nivea skin firming q10 lotion for a few weeks now and I've noticed a huge difference on the ones on my legs and stomach. And it's cheap too
  5. 30 days and counting I know it seems far away but the day are getting closer!! <3
  6. Of course I won't start riding until my Dr. gives the okay but when should I expect to get the okay to start riding again? I just had my RNY surgery 3 days ago so am still on a 10 lb lifting restriction.

    How Much Can You Eat?

Most of the time I can eat 3/4 cup of food but I think ideal is just a 1/2 cup and even then it depends on what I eat so I try ad stay with solid foods like meat and veggy. If I have eggs I can eat two eggs and 1/2 slice of ww toast or a cup of yogart so soft foods do allow me to eat more if I eat slowly. At 6.1cc in a 10cc band I think I still need a small fill which I have scheduled for Friday,I hope this fill will get me to 1/2 cup.

    How Much Can You Eat?

I dont have a fill yet but I find certain times I feel like I can eat like I dont even have a band and other times I cant even eat (like right now I am still full from lunch 3 hours ago). I am ready for a fill to start feeling some restriction.
  9. I really need some support right now. This is long, so I apologize in advance. This board was just the best place for me to turn to. I have 2 best friends - I've been friends with both of them for 26 years (since I was 5). One ® is obese, the other (K) has basically been a size 6 or 8 her whole life, and is just trying to lose the last 10 lbs from her pregnancy. My obese friend ® is the one who invited me to attend the lapband seminar with her. Afterwards, with the information, I was much at ease and begin considering it, especially since it was much less dangerous than gastric bypass, and I know at least 5 people who have successfully had gastric. It turned out R's insurance excluded the surgery, but I've been approved and am having it Dec 28th. So far, only my mom, dad, and my friend "R" who invited me to the seminar know that I'm having lapband surgery. Out of the blue today, my skinny friend "K" asked if I ever went to that seminar with "R" and what she thought of it. I told her it wasn't covered under her insurance, and she said "Good" and then started talking about how she didn't think people should have surgery just to lose weight, etc. So I'm sitting here, knowing I'm having it in 3 weeks listening to this (which reaffirmed my decision not to tell her because she obviously won't be supportive). I did make a comment to her that when people have 100-150 lbs to lose, its practically impossible to lose it on your own and keep it off. She said yeah, I've been trying to just lose 10 lbs. To make a long story short, now I am doubting myself. Wondering if I am putting myself at risk of dying "just to lose weight" when I could leave my 15 year old son without a mother. He will be out of town with my father when I have the surgery. He sees his dad, who doesn't even pay child support or attend his birthday parties or sports events, etc 2 days a month. His dad lives a totally different lifestyle - its always been just the two of us (me & my son). I couldn't forgive myself if I elected to do something that caused my son to lose me (even though I guess I would be dead I wouldn't even know). As you can see, my state of mind is not good right now...I don't know why I am letting my friend affect me like this. Now I'm thinking about death. Something that I hadn't really worried about after I saw the video of the actual surgery. I've always had a fear of dying and leaving my son to end up living with his father. It took a lot for me to be strong enough to undergo this surgery. Its not a decision I took lightly. I've had surgery before (cesearean when I had him) and that was much more invasive, and I was up taking care of him the next day, and obviously I lived. I don't know what I'm looking for in writing this post......maybe just letting my fears out, maybe asking if others had the same fear, or dealt with the same situation with a friend. I should be able to tell my best friend that I'm having surgery, but she has always been a very judgemental person. Thanks in advance for any wise words....
  10. I was so stressed prior to doing this surgery that I couldn't stop eating and actually put on weight. I was afraid of dying, I was afraid that I made a mistake, I was afraid of everything but here I am just over 5 weeks later and 25.5 lbs lighter wondering why I didn't do it sooner. We all have a different experience with this but most people get through it without any problems. I'm off my diabetes meds and my BP is 125/75... lowest it's been in ages, my doc is going to cut my BP meds in half. On top of that my old clothes fit again and I'm looking forward to losing the next 25 lbs so I can buy new clothes to go with the sexy new body. Your friend sounds like she understands how hard it is to lose weight since she can't get her 10 lbs off. You have to decide whether to tell her or not but the bottom line is that you are doing this for yourself & your son. You can always tell everyone when you're at the other side of it, when you over the op and back into the swing of things. Good luck with your surgery. :whoo::whoo:
  11. So tomorrow will be a week and I am so thrilled to say as of this morning I have lost 4.5 pounds. For what seemed like forever (2 days) I had only lost 2 pounds. I am the "I want it now girl" and know that is not realistic. It's like although I will allow myself healng time, my head is ready to go with all going on, party planning and more. Whoever is new like me, stay busy. Stay focused and it sounds like the results will follow. Happy there is no more chest pressure or bloating but I do have to say I can't imagine getting a fill when I feel restriction. Yes the broth diet was torture but now there is an end in sight!

    Vitamins and Post-Op Diet

On a scale of 1-10, I'd say postop life was a 3 for the 1st 4 months.....WAY easier than some of the crazy diets I've been on and with much better results. Really the only hard part was having to eat and drink when I wasn't hungry.... It was such a chore. I also developed a bad C. diff infection causing severe diarrhea for 2 months, but that wasn't related to my surgery.....got it from a dental procedure. But After 4 months everything was back to normal and Life has been easy. As for Vitamins, it's not a one size fits all. You need to do regular bloodwork and adjust accordingly. For example, I was taking a Multivitamin, calcium, Iron, Vitamin D3 and B12 sublingual immediately postop. My 6 month labs showed that my calcium and iron were high so I stopped taking those. 12 month labs were all good. I will recheck again when I am two years out and make any necessary adjustments. Studies on gastrectomy patients revealed that 90% developed deficiencies within 10 years. (iron, D and B12 were the most common, but folate, zinc and calcium show up, too). So yes, bloodwork and supplementation are important to prevent serious health issues. And taking daily vitamins Is really no big deal.
  13. 6:30am on Tuesday I will be at the hospital waiting for surgery.... getting very very nervous now.... But I made my grocery list today for the first 2 weeks. 1 week of clear liquids. 1 week of full liquids. The grocery list was very short!

    Hi ppl (Worries)

I had mine the same day, I am down 23-25lbs and have been at this weight for a week or so... Don't worry about the numbers, just do what you are suposed to do and let the #'s take care of themselves!!! (advice I need to take to heart) I was just at the dr and they said everything was fine, they are happy w where I am!
  15. When I first told my very close friend I was thinking about getting the sleeve she called me a "cheater", said I was taking the easy way out.( she herself is struggling with her weight) Because of that statement I was on the fence about surgery for 6 months. When I decided to get the surgery I didn't tell her until 3 days before. ( I was trying to stay in a positive frame of mind.) By NO means did I take the easy way out. This journey has been the toughest yet, with the recovery, chronic constipation, making sure I'm drinking, getting my protein and my vitamins. Now it seems like every time I talk to her she is trying to sabotage my progress. I love her to death, but her negativity is a real downer. Without being rude, how do you deal with negative people? I'd like to addi had no health issues before surgery, I was just tired of being fat and tired.

    Post Sleeve Activities

I was driving the day after I left the hospital. However, I didn't touch the narcotic (or even the morphine in the hospital). If the roads are really twisty and windy, perhaps wait two weeks, but otherwise, in the absence of pain, the driving restriction is really overblown. If you are OK going back to work and those demands, in almost all cases you should be OK to ride. I don't drive a motorcycle, but I could easily have ridden a bike three days out as well. FWIW.
  17. Hey all! Today marks week 4 post op for me and I am 25 pounds down! YAY! This means I am 1/4 of the way to my goal weight. Super exciting for me. I do have a question tho...I have not started exercising yet for several reasons one of which being I am not sure what I am released to be doing?? Anyone know?? Most likely I am going to start off with power walking but I don't want to do anything to mess with my healing either. Just curious when you all started your exercise routines and what they consist of.

    Premier Protein

My program allows premier protein. Also try to submit your information to insurenutrition.com and see if your insurance will approve the shakes for you. It takes about a week or two to find out. I get 4 cases of 18 a month, although they only have choc, van, and strawberry. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. 1. Full feels different now. I'm four weeks out from revision and get full very quickly-I'm on soft foods and can usually eat about 1/4 to 1/2 cup to feel full. Don't overeat! It's not like the band where you can eat a few more bites-if you think you are full, STOP! It will all come back up. 2. Did your program give you a food progression program?? I was two weeks full liquids, two weeks puréed, two weeks soft and then ease into "regular" food. I just moved to soft foods earlier this week. 3. You had surgery on the INSIDE of your stomach. There is a food progression to allow the stitches and staple line inside of your stomach to heal. It didn't feel good because your stomach has an open wound. Call your doctors office or go see a dietitian. You can mess up your recovery if you don't follow the rules. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein Delema

Since surgery my shakes taste aweful! The protein chicken broth is ok (Unjury brand)-but tastes salty and it cools off before I can finish! Finally today I tried unflavored whey (Unjury brand, again) with my raspberry lemonade Chrystal Lite-Bingo! Delish! The trick is only make 8 oz. at time w/ 1/2 scoop, 2-3 ice cubes- shake in shaker bottle. 11 grams. I had 2 today plus soup and 1/2 choc.shake! Finally met protein goal 1st time since surgery. If you like CL you should try this.

    Help with full liquids

After surgery your body is in a major heal mode. It is common for some individuals to be unable to meet their daily Protein or Fluid requirements for the first few weeks after surgery. Just keep trying every day and you should be able to get there. The fluid requirement is met by a combination of all the fluids you take during a day. It is not only the Water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your Vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the Protein shakes. It is the water component of the Soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day. It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. I remember in the hospital after surgery I could not drink the water because it tasted very chlorinated. Some individuals find temperature (hot or cold) affects their tolerance for drinking fluids. In the winter, I found that I tolerate Hot drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good. More recently I found a drink at Sam's Club that I buy by the case called Bai. There are many different types of formulations on protein shakes. I would recommend that you keep experimenting until you find one that you can tolerate. You don't have to like it, just tolerate it. I used Muscle Milk Light (vanilla Creme) powder blended with water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure.
  22. I was sleeved 5-13-13 so I am new to all of this. I feel stupid because I don't understand how much I should be taking in at one time. I understand sips and if I go to fast it hurts. How long should it take me to drink a cup of broth?? Is it normal for me to drink a cup (8oz) in one setting? Broth, tea, and flavored water go down well and I can do a cup fairly quick. Not that it's a race, but I have always drank fast. I don't pay attention and next thing I know I'm done. Now my protein shakes are not so easy and my unjury chicken soup is the same. It has to be small sips and not to quick or I get the sudden knot of pain between my boobs at the top of my stomach. Just the smallest sip gives me that pain at times. I try to get my protein in and my shakes are 11oz and out of habit try all in one setting.... I feel broken because I can take a large amount of other liquids. I asked my husband "what if my sleeve is bigger than it should be" I feel that I don't know when to stop and what if I stretch my sleeve. I don't know what is enough and i try to force my 64 liquid and 60 protein. I do fine with Popsicles, but Jello was extremely painful after each bite. I call it gas pains, but not really sure what it is. I go Monday for my 1 week follow up.
  23. For those of you that have Aetna and used the 3 month Multidisciplinary surgical preparatory regimen, what exactly did you end up submitting? The clinical policy bulletin states the following items must be done: Behavior modification program supervised by qualified professional; and Consultation with a dietician or nutritionist; and Documentation in the medical record of the member's participation in the multidisciplinary surgical preparatory regimen at each visit. (A physician's summary letter, without evidence of contemporaneous oversight, is not sufficient documentation. Documentation should include medical records of the physician's initial assessment of the member, and the physician's assessment of the member's progress at the completion of the multidisciplinary surgical preparatory regimen.); and Exercise regimen (unless contraindicated) to improve pulmonary reserve prior to surgery, supervised by exercise therapist or other qualified professional; and Program must have a substantial face-to-face component (must not be entirely delivered remotely); and Reduced-calorie diet program supervised by dietician or nutritionist. The nutritionist is having me document 90 days of diet and once I have that, they will submit it. I'm fine with doing the documentation, because it's important to track it and I'll need to do it in the future. That said, I don't see in the list of "to dos" where a diet log is required for submission. In the end, I know I'll get the surgery - but I was hoping that we could use the date of my physician consult vs the date that I first met with the nutritionist for the calculation of the 90 days. There is about a 3 week difference! If I would have known, I would have started to document my diet earlier! I've got everything else completed and just have to finish this component! Oh...the waiting begins...
  24. Jachut, yes, let's blame your old diet... I recently found out I've got polyps in my colon too, so I'm blaming my childhood/adolescence of almost 100% processed rubbish! Cecelia - which country are you in? I've had my Thermomix for 3 years and only got banded last month. It certainly made the liquid-only and the mushy stages VERRRRY easy!

    Just Curious

I lost about 40 my first week, including a 2-day pre-op diet, but I'm high BMI and was still very dehydrated when weighed at my 1 week post-op.
