  1. Been waiting 6 months. Now in 10 days I will have my final weigh in and then surgery on the 25th! It's dragging on so slowly. I am ready for this! I want to get the surgery out of the way and start losing already. Anyone else going on the 25th of July?

    Which hospital ?

The hospital I'm having my surgery at (on Monday) is "designated by the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program as an Active MBSAQIP Center." It also has a five-star rating and an excellence award on HealthGrades. The hospital itself is almost new, beautiful, and it's ranked in the top 10 percent nationally for safety. My surgeon is the head of the department and people rave about him. (He's also quite cute!) Okay, the last thing wasn't a factor, just a nice bonus :-) You don't say what location you are considering--are you looking at Mexico as a possibility? There are definitely good reports by many who have been there--keep checking this site, and you'll see what people have to say.

    Is something wrong

Wow that is great!!! How long did you have to do pre op diet? I only ask because I started at 399 and my doctor had me do a 37 day pre op diet. I still have 10 days to go. I have lost 23 pounds. I hope I still have a huge weight loss like you after surgery.

    Weight stall

Congratulations on your fabulous progress! 50lbs is fantastic! Stalls are pretty darn common and as long as you are following the plan, your stall will break. Everyone hates a stall but there will be many more I am sad to say. My longest lasted almost a month, my shortest about 10 days. I am typically a daily weigher although when I am in a stall I have to remind myself not to get frustrated. Just keep moving forward with your diet and exercise and the stall will break. I would also consider that you are working out a lot which is great but what might be happening is that you are building muscle which weighs more than fat. You might even notice that even though the scale is not moving your clothes might be getting loser. I would guess that you are losing inches. Hang in there!

    Weight stall

I am currently 10 weeks post op and have lost 50 #. I have not lost any weight in the last 3 weeks, I have heard of the 3 month stall but did not expect it to happen so soon. I work out 6 days a week, all 6 days with some form of cardio(only walking), distance, intervals, fast pace etc. I also do upper and lower body weights 2xweek. I have not started sit-ups as I was told not to start them until my 3 month visit. Does anyone have any ideas to get me jump started? I am getting frustrated and have slipped back to my old ways twice. Please help me.
  6. Wow, 19 pounds!!! I'm doing the Happy Dance for you since your still taking it kinda slow. But as soon as you can move around more, then you can do your own HAPPY DANCE!!!!

I came across this article recently. A long read, but worth the time. It's not fresh, so I might be late to the party (it having been disseminated on the forum years ago...) but it's certainly fresh for me. What do you think? Kris

    Sleep apnea

I tried it in 2012 into 2013 for five months it was awful I hated it got less sleep with it then without if u move it leaks or the hose crunches or comes undone if u need to use the bathroom u have to unhook and readjust everything I felt like I was suffocating every minute it gave me such anxiety I'd lay there for 2 hours and not go to sleep if I want to have this surgery I have to do it and prove a 3 week compliance with a printout or I can't have surgery I'm so pissed I feel like I'm being held hostage in two weeks I missed three days of work because of it was awake so much I literally couldn't fall asleep took it off one night and proceeded to sleep so hard from extreme fatigue caused by not being able to sleep with that contraption on that I fell asleep and slept three hours past my alarm going off waking to my boss yelling on my answering machine where are you? At 10 am ...I never used it again now being told I have to not sure I'll ever get surgery really can't tolerate it
  9. there's all sorts of tea flavors out there, too.. go to a health food store & look at all the teas.. you can smell the boxes to see if it's something appetizing to you. you could also drink Soup broth or liquid soup, like tomato... or get a v8 or try juicing.. carrot + granny smith apple & some Water.. that's one of my favorites. might also try getting filters for your water, if you don't already have them for your water.. or try locating a local well & get well water.. it tastes different than tap water or bottled water from the store.. or if you have one of those places near you that sells alkalized water, you could start drinking that. it helps alkalize your body & you can get it by the gallon.. it's only like 10 bucks a month for unlimited water. regular tap water from the city has fluoride in it, which may be good for your teeth, but it's bad for your brain. hitler used it to make people more docile and to more easily accept what he was saying... i try to stay away from fluorinated products. there's also other chemicals in your water, which may be partially why you don't like how your water tastes & why you're reacting to it the way you are... so.. if you can afford to, i'd look into getting a *REALLY* good filtration system on your faucet.

  12. Okay new recipe that whole family will love. You might need to serve it to them over rice, for carbs, but I eat it as is, or over spaghetti squash, or miracle noodles (actually I ordered some, I have not tried them yet, but they have zero calories and carbs, I ordered some) Ok, bored with Protein and 600 calorie stage 3 and 4 diet so I have used my cooking skills, over 30 years in the restaurant industry, to come up with a tasty good for US Chinese dish! This makes a lot, it freezes pretty well, adjust for your desired amount. I like to cook ahead and freeze. 2 24oz packages of turkey tenderloin (I got them as buy one get one free) 1 can chicken broth 1 large can Chinese lo mein veggies 2 cans sliced Water chestnuts 2 cans bamboo slices 1 lb fresh snow peas 1 packaged sliced Portobello mushrooms 1 zucchini, diced 2 bunches green onions 6 garlic gloves diced 1 cinnamon stick 1 tablespoon pumpkin spice ( I didn't have all spice or 5 spice, it is really close, plus every cook has some) 2 table spoons red pepper flakes 2 tablespoons Cajun spice 2 tablespoons squeeze bottle fresh ginger, or diced fresh 5 tablespoons amino acid, which you will find has zero calories, and is a perfect substitute for soy sauce 2 packages of mushroom gravy mix, store brand, usually 25 calories for serving, 4 to a packet, this makes a lot 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 3 tablespoons black pepper Okay, in a pressure cooker put turkey (pork tenderloin is an acceptable substitute) broth and all the spices. cook on high pressure for 45 minutes dice veggies like onions and zucchini and open cans, drain all but the lo mein veggies (drain and save for later), while this is cooking you might want to cook a spaghetti squash, cut in half width wise, put in oven safe pan and put in over, then turn on, no need to preheat, to 460 degrees and back for 50 minutes, remove seeds after, it is easy, and don't add water, that destroys the texture and taste. Simply shred with a fork, flesh will come out like angel hair. Store in refrigerator for 5 days, reheats great in microwave. basically calorie free. okay, remove turkey to a plate to cool, slice into smaller pieces it will cool faster. Get cinnamon stick out and throw away. Add gravy packets to juice, and bring to a boil, as you stir, won't take long, then add zucchini, first, then all the rest of veggies, put lid on to just cover, and turn heat off for 10 minutes, everything will be a perfect doneness.as you are doing this tear turkey into shreds with fingers or 2 forks, you might need to allow it to cool a bit more. If so, turn rest of dish back on low, or simmer. mix in shredded turkey in Now if it is too thick for your liking add the lo mein juice to thin as you like. If you will be serving to your family over rice, they wil probably like about half the can added. I personally like a thick dish, but depending on your stage, adding the whole can of juice still makes a nice beyond thick Soup. Enjoy over spaghetti squash, or straight. I do not know the actual calories, but they are very low, I would say less than 80 for 3 oz. Almost zero carbs, and lots of protein from the turkey. The cinnamon and ginger really make this special. I prefer it to restaurant dishes.
  13. Yeah... it sucks. But you know what it is so move past it. I gain about 10 lbs once a month It sucks but at least I know it goes away!

    About freaking time!!!---first fill

oh my, never heard of that! congrats on your first fill! let me know if all goes ok. i still can't burp or if i do it is so tiny i have to wonder if that is a burp. lol i still have a horrible pain when eating at least one meal every single day since my fill on April 1st, the joke was on me! i t feels like some one is stabbing me and can last from 10 minutes to 1hour plus. i don't know why something gets stuck every day. i am paying attention. never happens with hot Cereal or pudding or liquids of course but anything solid can get stuck there. i only had 1.6 and don't know if i'll ever get more if this does this every day for ever. i HAVE to stick my finger down my throat to get a burp for a little relief and if i puke it is just the slime. TMI? well i just don't know what to do. hoping yours goes really well!

    Back from the dr...

Had my 5 day post-op appointment today, got the staples taken out, boy does that feel good! I lost 7.5 pounds in 5 days! i've been really sticking to the liquid diet. There was a woman that got banded same day as me, and she only lost 2 pounds, but said she cheated. She had a quart of egg drop Soup yesterday!! I don't think i could even get that down! Was happy to hear that i have a 10cc band and dr filled it to 6cc at surgery...now on Protein shakes for next 10 days then will move on mushie stage.
  16. Would you change surgeons pre surgery if: You discovered a surgeon locally (10 min drive) instead of across your state (3 hour drive) if there were no additional expenses and they would accept your info from Dr you have surgery scheduled with?? I found out my surgery date today 12/30 but it requires 2 more trips across, another $500 program fee and the local Dr is a center of excellence as well and likely will accept everything and do surgery within same time frame. I see pro's being - Dr is 10 mins away I CAN attend bi-monthly support groups locally Fills will be local No hotel bills Help!?!

    Scale Is Stuck. -_-

So I had my band on Jan 3rd 2010. 10 days post op and Ive lost about 12 pounds. I am super excited and all that jazz.. It seems like my scale is stuck between 263 and 264 and no matter what I do It just seems to go down to 263 and the next morning im up again. I thought about throwing my scale into a blazing fire of dark abyss but I need it..lol Ive been walking and trying not to over do it with liquid.. anyone else have this problem? I really need the scale to love me again Its starting to bum me out. anyone?
  21. Same experience here before pregnancy. I am the world's worst morning person. Seriously, I'd rather slice a person's throat than get out of bed in a good mood. I used to sleep 10+ hours and barely function. For the last year or so, everything has changed. I wake up with my husband around 6am, make coffee, take care of our 2 large dogs, switch over laundry, pack his lunch, and then I lounge for a couple of hours. I still enjoy my quiet time in the mornings, and started getting up with him because the kiddo was still asleep and I could have some alone time without the mister or kiddo asking for something. I typically crash out around 11-Midnight, and I'm up and moving by 6pm. I never stop once I'm up and running. I'm typically out of the house no later than 9am, and pack my day full of activities to keep myself busy. My husband says that I lie still, do not snore, and don't have that weird breathing pattern I had while I slept at 270lbs.

  25. I will be spending the next week in London at the Holiday Inn Mayfair. I am 10 weeks post-op so I can eat almost anything, but I have managed to become a bit lactose intolerant so I have had to give up on most Protein shakes and rely upon real food. (Protein shakes were difficult to travel with anyway). I could use some tips on local sources of Protein that I can pick up while I am in town. Are there any brands of Jerky, greek yogurt, or other foods I should look for? I am also interested in restaurants and such as sushi bars, tapas, and such where I can get some good protein without too much fuss. Finally I would appreciate ny tips you might have about eating local fare (pubs, curries, etc). Thanks in advance....
