  1. I got gastric sleeve about 10 months ago. I feel like I'm eating too much and haven't really lost any weight for about a month now. So I'm worried. I have my next appointment soon, but I figured I'd ask people here. ❤️ If you're 10+ months post op, how much do you eat in one day?? Any tips on how to keep losing? I'm starting to exercise more too! I just get hungry easier now!

  3. I am a pretty private person, I only told the people I know and trust. I am in a group of 10 people who are in the same phase. One of the women is from the home town of my parents. Boy, do I regret telling her that! Apparantly she gossipped and my mom, who was doing grocery shopping, got asked by a someone random if I were to have the gastric surgery 😕 Why, oh why do people talk about other people.

It’s crazy the vast differences in plans.

My doctor has me on liquids for two weeks post surgery, then puréed food for 3 more weeks, then soft food for three more weeks then FINALLY, slowly starting regular food. Today was day 6 post surgery. I’m having zero issues! Feel great! I’ve lost 10 lbs since surgery, 16 since my last weigh in one week before surgery. Yay me!

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I was sleeved December 19. I have lost 21 pounds since I started the liquid diet before surgery. I am starting my soft diet tomorrow, and I am kinda worried. I don’t want to over eat, and I’m afraid that will happen. Has anyone found different meal plans for us sleevers yet? I would like to find different plans to help this soft diet along.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

  7. I should start this out by saying I am not looking for any medical advice, this is mostly just to vent because I am frustrated and scared. I was sleeved on 10/15/18 and have not had any complications except for a kidney stone 1 month post op. For the last 2 weeks however I have been feeling extremely run down, muscle aches all over and daily headaches. I definitely felt like something was wrong with me, but in my head I thought it could be low vitamin levels or just my body adjusting to the weight loss. I am scheduled for my 3 month post op appointment on 1/22 and had my 3 month labs drawn last Friday, mostly expecting them to show low vitamin levels (although I have been compliant with my vitamins) and maybe that my thyroid medication would need to be adjusted (I have hypothyroidism). Well, the lab results that have come back so far have me really worried (lab results get auto released to me on mychart). My labs show that my B12 level and Ferritin level are higher than the normal range. My TSH was low, which i did expect. The most alarming result however is that my ALT, AST and Alkaline phosphate labs are significantly high. I know that those labs have to do with liver function so I am pretty worried. Also, the Vitamin A and zinc labs have not resulted, which is unusual for them to have not been released by now unless they are "critical" results (at least this is what I understand from the way things result to mychart). The only thing I can think that may have caused this is that I was taking additional Vitamin A on top of my bariatric multivitamin as instructed by my NUT, because my Vitamin A labs were under the normal range before surgery. I stopped taking the additional Vitamin A mid Dec. as instructed. I do know that Vitamin A can cause liver problems in high doses so maybe that is what happened... I have only taken a couple of Tylenol and I have not drank post op. Most frustrating is my PCP looked at my labs and said the surgeon "definitely need to review them". The problem with that is my surgeons office has terrible follow through. I called first thing Monday morning and conveyed how worried I was about the labs and I was told I would need to send them the results to review (even though they ordered them and should have gotten the results faxed from the lab). I sent them over and confirmed that they were received but did not hear anything back, and now here we are with them closed on the holiday. I do understand I am not their only patient and they are understaffed currently. I will call again tomorrow afternoon if I haven't heard anything as my surgeon only works M-Wed. Sorry for the long rant, I am just really worried about the potential for any liver damage.

    New Year’s Resolutions

Consider this: you can be 10 times more likely to achieve your goals if you make New Year’s resolutions than if you do not. That statistic may motivate you to take a little care in setting your goals for this year. So, here are a few tips for setting resolutions that you can keep. Make Them Realistic We all want to hit goal weight and stay there, but is that realistic for you? Probably not, if you are more than 70 to 100 lbs. overweight and have not yet had weight loss surgery. A more realistic resolution might be to schedule your surgery and then lose an average of 5 to 10 lbs. per month after surgery. These are some additional examples of unrealistic and realistic resolutions. Get to the gym every day. Work out at the gym or walk 5 days per week. Follow your diet perfectly. Get back on track within a day of losing control. Avoid all restaurants. Check the nutrition facts beforehand and make healthy choices when you order. Plan all meals and snacks ahead of time. Keep protein bars and other healthy protein snacks on hand for when you need them unexpectedly. Make Them Specific Yes, you want to lose weight for example. But how much do you want to lose? Your resolution might include the number of pounds you want to lose or the BMI you want to hit. It might be to lose back the pounds you regained after weight loss surgery a few years ago. Here are some other examples of specific resolutions to consider. Drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. Attend two support group meetings each month. Eat at least two servings of fish per week. Eat at least 65 grams of protein per day. When you make your goals specific, you know whether or not you are making progress towards them and when you hit them. That is motivating, and it keeps you honest with yourself. Consider the Process A goal is an endpoint. Your resolution might be to achieve those goals, but it should also include the process, or “how” you are planning to get there. If your resolution is to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, your process might include storing canned and frozen vegetables so they are always available, keeping washed and cut fruits and vegetables in the fridge for snacks, and adding a half-cup of vegetables to your omelets. Here are some more examples of ways you can focus on the process. To hit your pre-op weight loss requirements, swap water for soda and side salads for fries. To get to the gym more often, lay out your clothes and shoes the night before, and figure out which workout you will do once you are at the gym. To move closer to your weight loss surgery, find out how to get approval for insurance reimbursement (or how you will finance your surgery) and which surgeons are your top choices. To get your blood sugar levels down, healthify your carb choices by identifying which are sugary and refined, and swapping them with high-fiber, unrefined whole grains, beans, and fruits. Stay Accountable Your resolutions are important to you, so make them a priority and hold yourself accountable. One way is to use the buddy system. You can either find a buddy with resolutions similar to yours, or just use a buddy who is willing to hold you accountable. Check in regularly with each other on your progress, encourage each other, and ask the tough questions if either of you are falling off track. Another way to hold yourself accountable is to use a log. Use an old-fashioned pencil and paper log, or opt for an online or smartphone app. Depending on your resolution, you can record thoughts, feelings, and progress, as well as food intake, weight, and exercise. Seeing your efforts in black and white can keep you honest and motivate you to keep going. Be Patient with Yourself Recognize that you won’t do it all at once, and that you will make mistakes. Set smaller incremental goals so that you can see progress in January, but keep the big picture in mind and realize that your resolutions are long-term. The big payoffs will come later in the year if you stick with your resolutions. Also, have a plan to forgive yourself, because things will go wrong. Dust yourself off and get back up, because you can achieve your goals!

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)

Not much of a writer but these are from 2016 and 2018. March 2019 will be 3 years post-op.
  11. Here’s me. Sorry for the shirtless pics but I think it helps show my luck with scars and loose skin. Starting Weight: 268lb Surgery Date: 10/30/17 Surgery Weight: 250lbs Goal Weight: 180lbs Current Weight: 144lbs For the most part, I loosely stick to my food plan. I do venture outside of it often but I workout 6-10 hours a week, so it balances out. I’m so glad I made this life changing decision! I love my new body and all of my health problems have gone away! PS thank you Kaiser!
  12. My" Wally" wouldn't honor a script for B12, ended getting mine from Bariatric Pal,and am well-satisfied with their taste, price and quick delivery, almost as fast as arguing with the Wal-Mart pharmacist about why every time Tomkitten or I order they balk on at least 1 prescription. And a new cute trick, PCP writes 6 refills but they only put 3x on the bottles. Caught them red-handed, you see. we both ask for a print-out summary from PCP office and there is clearly noted "6 refills" on Tomkittens meds. And some of his are ones he has taken for 10+ years but we have to wait for them to tell us how they should be taken? Get real, Bozo in the White Jacket, we could give YOU the tutorial!

    Depression and anxiety

Ah, yes! Depression and anxiety! Quite frankly, mine was probably not well controlled prior to surgery, but I felt AMAZING after surgery (sleeved 10/17/18) and stopped taking my depression medication. (I only take anxiety medication on an as-needed basis. When my depression is well controlled, that means I almost never need anxiety meds.) That amazing feeling was temporary and I'm back on my meds. I can tell I'm struggling a bit with the depression and am really struggling with anxiety. (Also dealing with my 8 year old daughter's mental health concerns and a major job change, so it just feels like a lot to handle while also learning my new life.) I'm seeing a therapist weekly for my eating disorder (diagnosed binge eating disorder) and we also touch on my depression and anxiety via the talk therapy. While at my daughter's neurologist this summer, I mentioned my surgery to the doctor. He told me to watch myself carefully and seek help when I needed it because he sees drastic mental health changes in post bariatric surgery patients. He indicated that they are often temporary while the body heals and re-norms, but made it clear that these changes can be astronomical. I try to remember that on days I'm really struggling. With time and therapy (for me) things will re-norm. Please consider talking with your doctor about a temporary dose adjustment. Hang in there!

Any Great Tasting Decaf Coffee Out There?

I haven't found great decaf yet, but I do find that it tastes better cold brewed. I'm still not drinking coffee post-op (personal choice, not required), but several years ago I had to go decaf for other reasons. Cold brew really made it taste better. I make a big batch on the weekends, then drink it throughout the week. You can heat it up if you prefer hot coffee. Coarsely grind beans and let them soak in water overnight. Use roughly a 1:4 coffee to water ratio. For example, 10 oz of coffee to 40 oz of water. To make for easier clean up, put the coffee in a nut bag and put the nut bag in the pitcher. It'll be concentrated, so I usually add about 1/3 coffee with 2/3 water (basically 2 oz coffee with 4-6 oz water, some folks use milk).
  15. 10 day PreOp Diet and 11 Days Post Op and STILL can’t a good Decaf Coffee. Anybody find something or the right mix of flavorings to may a good tasting Decaf coffee? Any good creamers or flavorings? I’ve ALWAYS hated the taste of fake sugar. Suffering...

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Had my surgery dec 26th and doing ok I guess. Still in pain because I have 5 incisions with 1 being really big. Just made a trip to Walmart and walked around and I'm tired. I hate the protein shakes. Am able to stomach 1% milk with instant carnation breakfast, scrambled egg, hard boiled egg and cream of wheat. I feel hungry alot of the time. It's almost a week since my surgery and I'm down 10 pounds. Trying to drink as much water as I can but it's hard. I feel it might be too soon to be eating real food but I'm tolerating it ok so just taking it easy. Jeannine [emoji8]

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Ok, so many of us struggle with diet fatigue. We get to a level where we feel great in our clothes, and life is taking off again and we're comfy in our bodies and are having fun loving life. We ARE successful. But we still may be 10-25lbs out from goal! What's a person to do to recapture that lovin' feeling and re-amp the diet and exercise and mindset back to losing? I saw this article and I think it could definitely be applied to us and our situations!! What do you think? https://getpocket.com/explore/item/the-2-mental-shifts-highly-successful-people-make
