    VSG revision to Gastric Bypass

I am doing fabulous! I am down 47 pounds in just under four months post op. 20 more pounds and I will be at my original goal weight! I am still learning my pouch and what I can comfortably eat. The doctor was surprised by how much weight I've lost so quickly with the revision so I must be doing all things well. Thank you for asking! Good luck to all of you!

    Band Removal Approved; BYPASS DENIED!

Hello I was denied at first for the sleeve revision but was approved for the lapband removal for not having 6 months of nutrional visits. My doctor did a peer to peer conference with the insurance and was approved immediately. I had surgery on 08/31. He sent in all the information on first surgery had the 6 months of nutrional visits and that everytime I went to get a fill or unfill I spoke to nutrionist. Hope that helps!!!! Not sure why people have to hire and advocate cause this is what we are paying our doctors to do. Or at least I found an amazing Bariatric team that did all the leg work for me
  4. I was able to get a removal of my band and revision to sleeve in the summer of 2014 in Texas under BCBS. I was self pay for my band in 2007 and ended up with a dilated esophagus with major reflux and pain. I had to stay on the doctor's office and the insurance company because I am a teacher and my district was about to switch insurance on me with the new school year starting. It was so stressful and I have not lost weight since the surgery. I have gained about 35 pounds-my mom passed away and other events made life stressful. I had lost 125 lbs. with my band so I am upset with the whole thing. It feels like another failed weight loss attempt. Very disappointing! I just don't feel like I ever had restriction after my revision. I am going to my GP doctor tomorrow. I hope I can figure something out.

    4 Month Surgiversary

I am just over 4 months out from band-to-sleeve revision and I have lost 41 pounds. I think you look great! We just need to stay focused and be patient. Imagine the pic you will post 8 months from now!! Time flys!! Good luck!!
  6. Hi. I had my first surgery in 09 and had a revision in 2014. I am looking for someone who had Rny than had a another one. I REALLY want someone to talk to that is/has done this 2x like me. Thanks

    Here I am...again...starting anew.

My mother and her friend had the revision surgery too. They gained their weight back too. Don't worry, they're doing great now. Keeping the weight off is much more sustainable with the sleeve. Promise. My mom is actually down to her goal size. Just remember when you do get your appetite back- even if the food is good don't push yourself to keep eating more. That'll stretch it. You can do it. Just have confidence and believe in yourself. You are not the only one- it's become quite common with the band. You'll get back where you need to be and you'll be feeling great in no time.
  8. You really should look into the doctors here at bariatric pal. I just had a revision from sleeve to bypass and my surgeon was amazing, no complications I had Dr Zavalza. Please PM if you have any questions, I also believe the price is just over 4000.00.
  9. Playing devil's advocate here. It sounds like the dividing wall between the new pouch and the remaining part of the stomach wasn't finished. I would guess this was because the liver was too large and in the way. I think a lot of people have misconceptions about laparascopic surgery, that b/c it's easier on the patient, it's easier on the surgeon as well. This is simply not true. Imagine if you had to sew a sleeve onto a shirt, but you couldn't actually use your hands. Instead, the whole thing is inside a box, which is also filled with packing peanuts, and the shirt is attached at various places inside the box, and all you have is a tiny camera and light inserted into the (dark) box at one area, and various instruments on lines inserted elsewhere. I am a veterinarian, I don't do laparoscopic surgeries (primarily b/c the cost to do so generally is beyond what most people want to pay for a non-specialist). Even with the abdomen fully open stem to stern, it can be very difficult to work around the liver and spleen, and my patients don't usually have a fatty liver, or adhesions from previous surgeries. It sounds like his surgeon worked hard for as long as he could but realized that his arms and back were getting fatigued (and likely he had already done 1 or 2 other surgeries that day) and was getting nowhere, and when you get tired you are more likely to make mistakes. Had he continued he might have nicked the spleen or hepatic artery, etc. Would you have wanted him to call in another surgeon who likely doesn't even do bariatric surgery? personally it sounds exactly like what I just went through with my surgery on Sep 9 - my fatty liver was in the way, and rather than do a partial, my surgeon opted to close up and try again after a liver-shrinking diet in a month's time. My surgeon said he could have done a partial but that the opening would be larger and I would probably end up needing a revision 6 mos down the road. It sounds like you just didn't get all the information from your surgeon yet. I hope that is the case and that he is planning to revise it for you. But I would be thankful to your surgeon for his good judgment instead of "going big" and possibly causing you a much worse outcome.

    Pregnancy layer in life

I got pregnant post sleeve at 38. I had my sleeve when i was 37. I got pregnant 1 year post op. My gyn thought it would take longer. It didn't. I would not recommend it unless you are close or at goal. I have had so many issues post pregnancy and I am going in for revision. Be sure to try to wait the recommended time.

    I Was Too Afraid...

I ended up having RNY once it was determined that it was the best surgery for me given my severe Gerd. I wanted to have this surgery one time. It has been. One of the best decisions of my life. I no longer get any type of reflux, heartburn and no longer take medications for it. I would give serious thought before proceeding with the sleeve given your history. You may just end up with yet another revision. I have seen many people on this site have to revise twice before they finally get what they need, several have complications due to all the previous damage from the band, sleeve and reflux made worse. I would suggest talking to your surgeon and doing some research before deciding for sure. Good luck to you!

    I Was Too Afraid...

I had the sleeve in 2012. I was perfect sleeve candidate. I did not have GERD and no comorbities. I got pregnant post sleeve and I regained all my weight back. I have developed GERD and my sleeve is twisted. I also developed a hiatal hernia which I do not attribute to my sleeve. I am having revision surgery to RNY in October 3 years almost to the date of my sleeve surgery. Should have, would have, could have RNY to begin with. I never wanted to have a 2nd surgery. I do believe drs often times do not like performing sleeve on those with bad GERD to begin with. There are many successful sleevers and lapband to sleevers. Good luck in your decision.

    Revision

I had Gastric Banding for 10 years then I did the revision to Gastric Bypass
  14. Hi everyone! Question for you. Let me preface this by saying I have contacted my dr. office and will follow up accordingly. I'm 1 month post op from band to GP revision. Two mornings ago I stretched in a weird way, and felt a popping or tearing under my left ribcage. It hurt and it's still sore. I called my doctors office in a panic and she said "how do you feel"? Hahaa! I actually feel fine. No fever or nausea. I'm eating just fine, still getting in my fluids in but it's just sore like I've been working out. She said it was probably scar tissue but watch for hemorrhaging in my bm's. (Yah that will be in 3 days! Sorry.. Lol) Just wondering if anyone has had something similar. Thanks!
  15. Has anyone had the sleeve first and then converted it to bypass later?

    Miserable and depressed

Why haven't you lost weight? You sound like you would be a PERFECT candidate for a bypass revision. I think you really need to look into that.
  17. Welcome and congratulations on making the decision to take control of your health! I had my rny on June 9th, am down 60 pounds and do not have one single regret! The primary reason I would recommend the rny, is seeing all of the revisions on this site, so, so many people get the sleeve and years later have an rny and who wants to go through any type of surgical procedure twice? Best of luck, whichever path you take!!

    Any Oct 2014 sleevers?

Hi all, i had my revision band to sleeve surgery 13th oct 2014. I have lost 150lbs (yes a whole person) as of last week however i have a fair way to go. I am happy with what i have achieved to date. I walk almost 14 klm (8.7 miles) a day 5 days a week! I wont ever be able to run as i developed OA on both knees prior to wls surgery. Im alive, and enjoying life ????. When i get a bit more confidence ill post before and after pictures. Best wishes to you all xox
  19. Had revision surgery almost two weeks ago and I am completely amazed at how easy it has been. Have walked quite a bit, came back to my business one week after and am so thankful everything has gone so well. I have had some troubles with the Proteins so now am shaking Greek yogurt with every kind of cream Soup I can find and heating it up. I finally decided the Protein chemical taste was making me slightly nauseous since I previously cooked and ate mostly fresh, not processed, foods.
  20. I am a revision also. My band also went horribly bad, slipping and causing massive amounts of scar tissue. I am glad that you are feeling so good and that they were able to do a revision for you. The first month or two are the hardest for sure. I find that at 6 months I can pretty much eat normal healthy meals, just in smaller portions. I do still start my day with a Protein drink. I hope you continue to do so well, I know it has been a good decision for me too!

    Going back to work?

I had the band to bypass revision at the same time and took 3 weeks off. My job is fairly sedentary and the pain I had wasn't from the bypass, it was from where the band has been removed. I ended up having to work 8 days in a row and I did fine. I did notice I really had to concentrate on making sure I got my fluids in! Everyone is different but hopefully you'll be able to hit it at two weeks. I should mention my shifts are 12 hrs so if you work 8, maybe it will be cake! Tee heeee???? Take good care of yourself! p.s. I should add I'm just over a month post op.

1 week from surgery and getting nervous!

How long is the hospital stay for revisions?
  23. Greetings Gastric Sleevers! My name is Jay. I am 45 years old and I have been Morbidly Obese my entire Life. Here is my story. I had a Work Physical in December 2006. When I stepped on the scale I weighed 326lbs. That was the most Obese I had ever been, and enough was enough. I had had it. I needed to do something drastic to stop the weight gain. I decided to have a Lab Band. At the time I didnt want to have any physical changes to my body, and people were having very good weight loss success on the Band. In February of 2007, I had my surgery. From February 2007 to September 2007 the band worked great!!! I weighed in at 207lbs. I was extremely happy!!! But sometime in September the tubing to the band developed a kink and then the tubing cracked and the band was worthless. March of 2008 I underwent my second surgery, this time it was a port and tubing replacement. Everything seemed fine until I went in for my first fill. When they tried to fill the band they werent able to. The tubing was kinked again!!! Are you F'ing kidding me? I had enough and was just going to do my best on what the surgeon had put in the band ( I think it was 9cc's). It wasnt enough, I started to gradually put on weight. In 2012 I had enough again. I went in to have the band filled under X-Ray Fluroscopy. For whatever reason the band took in 15 cc's The band I had was only supposed to hold 12. Needless to say the band was closed off, and I couldnt eat or drink anything. Two days later I had emergency surgery to release the band. The surgery went well, but the Surgeon didnt replace the band. When I went in for a fill they put in the Max CC's of 12. Guess what? No restriction. Yup in was stretched out so much it was ineffective again! I had had enough with the Lap Band, it was nothing but a big giant headache for me. I decided to have a Gastric Sleeve in 2015. I had my surgery on June 24th 2015. The day of the surgery I weighed in at 275lbs. Today is September 11th and I am down to 240lbs. I am very happy with my Sleeve, but the adjustment to the new diet was very hard for me. I am doing 3 Protein shakes a day and I added 1 KETO OS drink a day to my diet. It has made a huge difference. My energy levels are through the roof and I feel absolutely Fantastic!!! The weight is coming off twice as fast for me ( from 2 pounds a week to 4) I took the time to research this product and it is the best decision I have made in a long time.
