    May 2022 surgery?

Hi everyone. I had my surgery May 1st. It went well. I was supposed to be on the three week clear fluid diet. In all honesty- I did three days and then gave in at least thee times- but the last 7 days I stuck to it completely. I didn’t drink the protein shakes as I didn’t like them. The surgeon was upset at first but after the surgery he told me everything was as it should be and went really well.
  2. That is awesome! Great way to ease into things ! My hospital said no nail polish anywhere, and no lotions anywhere the night before or day of. I was also finishing up all of my planning for work and the kids with their schedules and activities for the next week! I wish I could have taken it easy that last night. They didn’t have me do any bowel prep, but I started taking Miralax a few days ahead of time. I thought it would help, but I think it backfired. I had incredible abdominal pain after surgery, and I think it was related to all of that in my intestines, yet the anesthesia preventing my intestines from working properly. Ugh. It all got better eventually, though.
  3. You just got to wait it out. After my sleeve I had no gas pain but after my surgeon removed my gall a year later OMG I had a lot. It took a good week to pass. Walk. Warm beverages like herbal tea (peppermint) can help. Try leg lifts & deep slow breathing to pump the gas upwards because surgical gas rises in your body (hence the upper body & shoulder pain). Heat packs can help too. Burping & farting don’t really help because the gas was in your abdominal cavity not inside your tummy or intestines where the farting/burping gas forms. Hope it eases soon.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

Congrats! Worst part is done with. Now you just have to focus on healing. Did they give you a binder? That really helped me with pain. Also yeah, the napping is no joke. I'm 3 months post op and still find I need naps some days when pre op I was not a napper. But yeah, the first 2 weeks after surgery. I was falling asleep left and right. How long are you missing work?

I took 1 week off, 2nd week I went back to work but worked at home. Returned to the office Tues this week. Could have gone back after 1, feeling great.

How long are you missing work?

I'm taking two weeks. I'm still WFH/remote. Tbh, I get bored easily, so I definitely didn't want to be home with nothing to do especially since it'll be a while before I'm back in the gym and exercising normally.

    May 2022 surgery?

Day 3 of preop complete! It is definitely getting easier now that my brain and stomach are coming to terms with the new restrictions. I actually look forward to my breakfast and lunch shakes. I bought some Better than Buillion (roasted chicken) and have been sipping that during lunch. I'm still nervous about my liver not shrinking, but I'm down 5lbs so I think this diet is doing something lol For anyone that is not on a liquid preop diet, what are some of the "normal" foods you have for dinner? Per my doc, I'm allowed to have an under 300cal Individualized Meal (ie Healthy Choice, etc) and a small salad. I had a salad still in the fridge from my Olive Garden food funeral on Sunday and when I say that I demolished it for dinner last night...it was so good
  9. Hey i remember those...im 6 weeks post opp and i was in pain ..just keep moving around. Sent from my SM-A326U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. Two weeks out I would have been able to. Like ms.sss if anything I was taking naps still but if you have the time to rest and still go then you should be fine.
  11. Not quite 2 weeks PO, but I went to an event at 3 weeks post op. It was about 5 hours long and i was just fine. Didn’t eat anything at the party, but that was expected (i brought protein powder with me to mix into my water). One week earlier (at 2 weeks), i was still taking naps though…but that may have been related to my complete lack of energy cuz I wasn’t really eating those first two weeks.
  12. I have tickets to the opera on May 29 which is just two weeks post-op. I’m wondering if I should exchange/refund them. The flyer for this opera just arrived in today’s mail and it looks so beautiful that I would hate to miss it. Will I be ok taking the train and sitting for a long while? Would that be pushing myself too much? Does anyone have similar going out after surgery stories that you can share?

    May Surgeries - check in!

WOW! You all are doing AMAZING and I'm so proud of you all!! Congrats!!! I on the other hand will hit my 1 year anniversary on May 19th and still have at least 50-55lbs MORE to lose! However I HAVE lost about 74 since surgery and about 94 since last March. As most of you know I have been stalled since about October. No real new weight loss since then. So about a week, week and a half ago my doc took me off Metformin totally and onto Rybelssus. Just had my yearly check up with my surgeon yesterday and he agrees with this new change. Despite all of that, my surgeon reminded me that their goal, around the one year mark, for me was to be between 201 and 234. So, I'm not far off from that I guess technically. Just sucks that I've been stagnant for so long despite all the different things I've tried as per my dietician and eating correctly and exercising. Anyway, hoping this Rybelsus kicks me out of this stagnant phase and I too can see numbers under 200! Congrats again!!

Calories per day - 2 months post op?

By 2 months I was almost able to consistently eat to plan, which was 3 meals per day consisting of 3oz protein + 1oz veggies. I have no clue on calories then or now. Good luck, Tek

    May 2022 surgery?

That's so exciting that you had no pain or nausea and had such a great experience. Makes me feel way less nervous about my surgery with Dr. Gagner in a few weeks. I have heard so many good reviews for him. Do you have to stay in Montreal for a few days after surgery?

Trying to eat more veggies- 3 months post op

I am about 8 weeks out and have been eating salads (chopped small) for a couple weeks now. I have only had one incident where I threw up after eating salad (and that was gross) but otherwise no issues. It's really the only food I am eating as I'm still taking in protein via drinks. Salads (lettuce, onion, cucumber, bell pepper, chickpeas, bulgur wheat, tomato, etc.), quest chips, jello cups, and protein drinks are that which sustain me as of late. Also worth noting: I buy the red or green head lettuce, it is softer than romaine or iceberg lettuce. Also, I dilute the sesame dressing with vinegar to make it stretch and reduce the calories.

    DAY 1 Pureed Stage

HOORAY for you! I had refried beans for dinner. I added 1/2 cup of Fairlife milk to the entire can of beans (heated). It wasn’t runny. Then I added a big pinch of cheese to my individual serving in the bowl. It was amazing! No stomach issues at all. I’ve been eating Campbells bean and bacon soup (blended) for the past two weeks, so my stomach is totally used to beans.

Calories per day - 2 months post op?

Yep, i agree (for me). I didn’t get to 1200 calories per day until about 3-4 months into maintenance (which translates to about 10-11 months post op) P.S. to keep things in perspective, I’m barely 5’2”

Calories per day - 2 months post op?

My team has us at 800-1000 a day from week 6 until maintenance. With that being said, I am into my 6th week and I can barely get 600 cals a day. I do hit my fluid and protein goals every day though.

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Hi everyone! I'm a little late to the convo but am happy to meet some fellow June sleevers. My last pre-op appointment is June 6th, and my bariatric coordinator said the surgery would likely be 3-4 weeks after that (putting me at end end of June/first of July).
  21. Thank you 🙏 to everybody who responded to my questions these past couple of weeks. I just left the dr’s office and ended-up canceling my surgery set for tuesday. After reading a medical paper recently published about the correlation of wls and a decline in mental health, I’ve realized this route really isn’t worth the risk of the onset of acute anxiety and panic. Today I weighed in at 202. Would like to get to 138 (5’4”) and even though I’ve done it a million times-am going to give it another go the old fashioned way. I told my surgeon that I feel like I’m trading one health anxiety (pre-surgery—high bp) for another, (fear of bodily sensations as I heal and mental wellness). My doctor poo poo’d my concerns “we really don’t see a lot of that” and had no idea what I meant when I said I fear I’m going to panic at being trapped in my own body 😆 Good luck to all of us—this journey is not for the faint of heart ♥️ and though I’m feeling defeated at this moment I am also tremendously relieved that I’m doing what feels best for my brain 🙏🦋🦋🦋🦋

I am actually feeling great. I am actually going to start riding my bicycle hopefully in the next couple weeks. Just gotta get it tuned up. I stopped riding over a year ago due to the weight gain and i was beyond the capacity of the bicycle lol. Sucked too because that bicycle was expensive lol.

    So fed up

Stalls are super frustrating and depressing to be totally honest. I have seen more of them after I passed 6 months post op than I saw before that. My weight loss is down to around 2-3 pounds a month as I get closer to ideal weight. I do get frustrated but I know I have more to lose so I just stay the course and sure enough, it breaks and I get a couple more pounds before the next stall.

    So fed up

If it makes you feel any better, I am currently in a 4 week stall. I'm staying in the right calorie range (that has worked for me and my program espouses), am exercising, and basically doing everything right but I have been just hanging out in the same 2 lbs range the whole time, just shy of my 100 lb loss milestone. So. Frustrating. Just hang in there and keep doing what you know is right and has been successful. Maybe change something up to see if shocks your system a bit, but don't go overboard. This is all a complete head game. Your body will do what it wants... when it wants. I've found looking at other success measures (measurements, non-scale victories) can really help me get through these times. I feel your pain and totally empathize.

Hi. So first two weeks after surgery i was on a liquid only diet. (this varies greatly from surgeon to surgeon) Getting in the protein was easy. the fluids are difficult. I started eating solid food yesterday and so far no problems at all. I have had Eggs, Tuna, Salmon, chili, ect... no issues at all.. Now it does take me about 45 minutes to a hour to finish a small 4oz serving. only thing that sucks about that is food gets cold.
