    My final push

I'm doing a count down like several others - I have two goals I'm pushing toward, the first is my healthy BMI goal, and my Doctors goal for me - 155. I'm currently at 171 and 16 lbs to go for that goal. After hitting the 155, I will push for my goal of 145. It has been 20 years since I was in the 170's. Of all the diets I have been on, I never thought or never did, get this close to goal. The fact to be just 16 lbs away from being NORMAL, is just amazing to me, its almost unbelievable. I am wearing a 10/12 now. I used to wear an 18/20. I went shopping this weekend and bought a size 10 jeans - and it felt so great to walk out of the store with them - even though they were $80! I wanted to shout at everyone at the mall, "hey these are a freaken size 10 people"!!!! Anyhow, I don't want to stop now, I don't want to think this is it, I want to complete this race, I want to finish it to the end. So my countdown to goal, 16 lbs!

    Curves

Wow Robyn - 71 lbs in 6 months - that's awesome! I'm banded 2 weeks and have lost only 9-10 lbs. I'm dissapointed. I want to do Curves but will wait another couple of week. I don't want to risk injury. When did you all start exercise (other than walking)?
  3. Almost one year in - wow what a journey! So many things have changed in my life that still amaze me to this day. My health is 100% better. I have stopped taking at least 8 out of 10 meds. I have so much more energy - I go out so much more, walk and exercise. I feel great about my looks, and I can shop for regular-size clothing! When I go clothes shopping it makes me smile when I try on clothes that are too big for me! This is a mind set that will take some time to change - I've been so big for so long. When I take public transportation and see a seat on the bus or train, my heart does not have to beat fast, realizing that I don't have to size it up to see if I can fit into it. I just sit down with room to spare! This is something else it will take time to get used to. I have 12 more pounds to go before I reach my goal. I have not lost any weight since my last posting - I've hit another plateau that I have spoken so much about. I wanted to be at my goal weight by October 26 - the first anniversary of my LAP-BAND surgery. I'm not going to make it exactly, but, hey, a year ago I weighed 288 pounds! I know I came a long way and I will surely lose the 12 pounds soon. I still work out daily. Now I even have a few women who ask me to help them the with their workout regimen on the weekends. We go the the pier and look at the New York skyline from the Jersey side - makes for a great background for walking and exercising. Two of the women have lost 8-10 pounds each and are so excited about it! Can you believe I'm helping others to loose weight? So I guess it is going to take some time to get used to the new me! I'm extremely happy and excited, and I've been amazed on my one-year journey that has transformed me. Now I'm looking forward to the rest of my life as the new me. I want to thank everyone on this site for all the wonderful support and encouragement that has been so important to me. And I know that this support is so important to all of us who are in the process of changing our lives in such a big way! Better Late Than Never.

Hi Ladies, Not sure why I haven't gotten any emails saying that this thread was updated. I didn't even notice I had replies until now. Lisa, lol no girl, I don't think you can ever bother me. Thats what these forums are for, support! I'm getting really anxious, its probably just the surgery part. Its kind of odd how fast I accepted the diet and now I'm not even that hungry anymore, yesterday I only ate about 650 calories for the whole day. I think my dr. allows about 800 or so with the 3 shakes and one small meal. I lost about 10 pounds so far since Friday, most of it is Water weight I am sure, but it still feels good to ese the scale's numbers go down. Hi Jacquie. Your the same age as I am, I just turned 31 on the 7th of July. Hang in there! Mine started to disipate after 3 days and by the 4th day *yesterday* I hardly felt hungry or the need to eat much at all. Keep your mind occupied! Thats what I've been trying to do. YAY For you getting your approval! Thats great! I don't know whats up with insurance companies waiting till the last bloody second, but I'm glad it went through for you! I must be crazy, my August is starting to get PACKED with schedules. I'm starting school again in the Fall, and Violin lessons. My son (he's 4), he'll be going back to preschool on the 24th and my classes start on the 17th. Oye! I sure hope I have time for everything, not sure why I do this to myself. eek! Wish me luck in keeping me sane!

I was banded on August 12th, and I've lost 19 lbs. I'm scheduled to see the doctor the end of September for a "possible" fill. My doctor said even if I was loosing only a pound a week, they would not fill me. I need to have stopped loosing all together to require a fill. I'm a little bumbed because although I lost 16 pounds in the first 2 weeks, I'm loosing pretty slowly now. I guess I shouldn't rush things and be greatful for any loss at all. I'm not hungry, I have no restriction and I feel great! What weight I have lost has just fallen off. I don't feel like I've done anything, except eat a whole lot less and not be hungry every second of every day. I could live like this!

    Bmi, just 39%

I have GERD too but when the nurse told me that it is not a big medical problem. It would need to be hypertension or diabetes. I go for my next and hopefully last visit on 8/10 and after that they are suppose to submit it to my insurance and I am just so scared that I am border line that I wont get approved.:crying:
  8. I am 10 days post op, I was very gassy and bloated up until day 8. Yesterday was the first day I felt minimal pain, bloating, swelling or discomfort. Make sure you are getting plenty of Water as your kidneys and liver can be overworked during your liquid phase. At day 4 I felt lousy and had much pain and discomfort, it gets better every day and today I feel so much better!

Things I Didn't Even Think Of...

As for scheduled in advance time off, at my job we can only have two people off per shift per day....so it can be incredibly difficult to request time off in advance. We do get 10 sick days per year, but I do not want to use them all in the event I get sick....I would be written up and face disciplinary action for calling off once I was out of time. If I apply for medical leave, they take all of our vacation and sick days first and it is unpaid....but my short term disablity would kick in.

    I Hate Being Stuck!!

Taking a drink is the last thing I would do. Drinking just increases the episode in my opinion and experience. I have had my share of stuck episodes and the two times I did add Fluid it made the pain worse and the vomiting more forceful. Vomiting should be avoided at all costs just as stuck episodes should. It increases chances of a band slip 10 fold. I would suggest talking to your Doctor about stuck episodes and the recommended action but in my opinion adding fluid to an already plugged funnel is a no brainer. What happens when you keep flushing a toilet that is plugged?

    Working toward banding

Welcome and good luck to you! Just a caveat...don't get the surgery until you go that extra 10%. Take whatever time you need to get your questions answered and decide if it is indeed the right step for you!
  12. Thank you for the reply. I too quit drinking 30 minutes before and an hour after eating. I tell you what, that was a hard habit to break. Quitting smoking and kicking my 10 Diet Dr Pepper's a day was easier than that! LOL Like I said I just try to eat foods that are good for me but fear so much stretching out my pouch. I assume once I go for my next fill in February I will notice much more of a difference. Maybe I am just chewing my food really well and why I have had little to no issues with it. And I drink Water like there is no tomorrow when, for the last 30 years, I hardly touched it. Now and again I will have a Crystal Light or K20 Protein drink for a change. Again, thanks for your insight/help. JulieG

    Body Piercings Anyone?

Wow Aries....that's a lot of metal! Lol...I thought I had it bad with my nose, navel, tongue, top of ear (already took out the 3 on each side). Ive had 3 past laproscopic surgeries (2 for female stuff and last one for gall bladder removal). I never took out navel piercing for any of those, even though they wanted me to. They ended up taping it. Just was curious if they were more strict on this one. If had it for 19 years and never taken it out.

    Southern Illinois?

There are SOME good/informative youtube videos....some made by surgeons....some by successful people....and then theres those who weren't successful with it....for WHATEVER reason. (It didn't work, they didn't work, etc, etc...) Theres ton's of information out there....good/bad and ugly. Since you have a surgery date established 10 days from now, you obviously have a team of PROFESSIONALS lined up. Congrats on your upcoming surgery. There is a wealth of information here too. Lots of good advice from folks who have probabaly been through what you are feeling/experiencing at each stage of your journey. Opinions/suggestions based on what has/has not worked for us. Its a learning process...each person has to figure out what works for them. And then just do it! No excuses. And when you can, get on a PC and input your profile information, Dr., surgery date, etc, etc. I only mention this because you'll hear it from others. It helps understand where you are in your process. Thanks!

  17. Hi, I had Sleeve on May 8th. Got fever, vomiting from UTI in hospital. Doctor put me on antibiotics for three days. I have had horrible diarrhea since last Sunday. Also burning in my stomach most of the time. Today started Pepcid and have had three Immodium. I am weak, exhausted and never feel satisfied in my stomach. I have adjusted my diet but nutritionist said I need to be adding the extras to my shake. Had a delicious scrambled egg this morning, but diarrhea again. Sweating just walking from room to room. This is so not what I expected. Any suggestions for meds or foods to try?

    Well so here I am.

10 years ago, in 2005, I did the same thing. I was approved for the lap band, lost weight during the liquid diet and said I can do this without surgery. Over the years, I gained and lost, but I could not get approved again until my BMI was over 40. Now I have lost weight again during my 3 month pre-op nutritional counseling, but I am going through with my surgery next week. I cannot make the same mistake twice. Good luck and just do it!

    Help

What is your Protein target? If your protein target is 80 grams and you are getting 70 grams on some days, then you have room for at least one 10 gram protein snack (or two 5 gram protein snacks) on those days. Do you plan out protein-focused meals and Snacks throughout the day?

    Help

At that stage I was not hungry at all. You need to occupy your mind in different activities and very importantly, exercising. I did mine in 5/19/14 and so far I have lost 100 lbs.
  21. Hello! I had my Sleeve performed August 10 and came home on the 13th. I really struggled with nausea post-op, but there are not enough kind words to describe the amazing care of my doctor and nurses who really helped me push through it. My surgeon's protocol calls for two weeks of Clear Liquids after the sleeve, but at my follow-up appointment on Tuesday, he allowed me to add some of my Protein Shakes, as tolerated. That has really made a difference in my energy level. As has exercising. I'm taking it very easy, but trying to get in as much walking and elliptical as I can. I was down 12 lbs at my post-op appointment and let me tell you, it felt so good to see the scale tip below 250 for the the first time in several years. I'm going back to work on Monday and I'll start my soft/adaptive diet on Tuesday. I'm looking forward to talking to, and learning from, all of you during this very exciting time.

    Not big enough?

Yes my dr said the same thing on my very first visit, he said lose 5-10% before surgery, I asked about that because I'm right on the line for the BMI requirement and he said, that does not matter, the insurance goes by today's weight.
  23. I was sleeved on 10/21. surgery went great no problems. I am a bit itchy on my belly but put some abt cream and that helps. my HW was 263 surgery date 253 and now 235.5. the thing is I have stayed that weight for a week. I definatly feel good but i am surprised the weight is not going down. I am seeing the DR. on thursday and i will see what he has to say. I do feel hungar but love the fact i can only eat small amounts. A day after surgery my BP was very high 179/102 and I had bad headachs called the DR and he put me back on my bp meds and now its normal. I live in Charlotte NC and would love to go to a support group just to stay on track and meet other sleevers.
  24. I just found out that patients have to wait 1-2 years before surgery at the clinic I attend. I've been waiting 10 months now and have all my requirements done. I have no doubt in my mind that I'm ready and all the prep is almost to the point of overkill. I think someone would be less anxious if they have had any other type of major surgery before. There are relaxation techniques that are quite useful during high anxiety moments, such as major surgery. I had a major surgery where there were numerous unexpected complications. I had brought my favorite painting and had it placed in view so that I could concentrate on it and drown out voices, sounds of surgical tools, and pain. I also thought about the young children at St. Jude that had to go through so much more than I was temporarily enduring. Everyone is different, but I think a little mental preparation will keep you from backing out at the last moment. The newer requirements that make bariatric patients wait so long before surgery are put in place so that we are more than ready and less likely to fail.
