Proudest moment in 2018 - hmmm more than one I'm afraid When the physician's assistant said I had 'little legs' when she gave me a shot in my knee - I didn't register a word she said after that! When I had 'thigh gap'..... When I fit into size 10 jeans, I came busting out of the fitting room and shouted it out right there in Macy's!

I'm really frustrated with my best friend and I'm not sure what I'm gonna do about it so I came here to rant into the abyss. She said some hurtful things that I'm having a hard time letting go of. Every time we speak she comments about needing to get on track with her diet so that I don't pass her up. It sucks! I didn't realize that my role in our friendship was being the fat one and I guess it's important to her that it stay that way. She is also overweight but has never been morbidly obese. My current weight is probably about where her highest weight has been but she is less right now. Every time we speak she asks me how I'm doing with my weight loss and asks a lot of detailed questions most of which I'm happy to answer as we've been friends for 10 years. Then 2 weeks ago, she sent me a text saying that she doesn't want to talk to me right now because watching me lose weight and looking better is upsetting to her. She said it is triggering her eating disorder of which I was unaware. I responded compassionately even though I was upset and told her it was ok for her to be honest with me about her feelings. I expected to give her some time and space and see how things go but she texts me almost every day with something sad and horrible about missing her mom or depression or anxiety or her wife or her son's behavior problems and it feels like she's leaning really heavily on me. This might just be a season in our friendship were she needs more support than I do right now. But it's hard for me to hang in there when she says unsupportive things to me and then expects me to just keep responding to 2am texts. Luckily for both of us she lives in another state so she never has to see the look on my face when she makes those comments. I only told 5 people about my surgery: my mom, my 2 sisters, my husband and my best friend. She lives in another state and we probably only talk about once a month these days. I was counting on her as part of my support system. She is going through a lot, like all of us. She suffers from depression, struggles with money, has some family issues and lost her mom a year ago. I love her and I worry about her. It makes me sad that I feel like our friendship is not healthy for me.

Dec 2018 - May 2019 Dietician Consult Buddies?!
Hrsnjs replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I hope you guys can get scheduled ahead! Mine was a 12 month program and they wouldn't send it for approval til after the 12 months and the required 10% loss (which ended up taking me 23 months, not 12) and then they still wouldn't schedule until after the insurance approval (which was first denied, then appealed, then overturned). I hope for everyone to get what they need as soon as possible!! Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Dec 2018 - May 2019 Dietician Consult Buddies?!
LindseeNohan replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You rang? I started my consult in Dec as well, my last nutrition group visit is 05/10! I wonder when my surgery will be scheduled. If anyone pops in here that has completed the 6 month pre-op process, did your surgeon schedule surgery after the 6 months or during? -
Hey Everyone, I'm new to the forum and my sleeve surgery is scheduled for the first week in April. I was hoping to get some advice on what your post op hospital stay was like? The hospital I am going to is about an hour away from home so we wont be able to come back and forth. My husband is going to stay with me the whole time. What advice do you have on what to pack for me and him? How long did you stay at the hospital? Did you have visitors? Anybody have a longer ride home? Just trying to get some ideas since we will be farther away. Thank you! This forum has already given me such great ideas and advice to help calm some of my nerves. Moving house soon. When to have surgery?
Cala B. replied to Briswife15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am pre-op, but my instructions say no lifting more than 10 pounds, no reaching (details in the attachment), so I vote with the others, definitely get the surgery after your move! If you're anything like me, it would be hard to resist doing more than you should post surgery Abdominal Precautions.pdf -
How long did you take before going back to work?
RinRin replied to Queenbee34's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m one week post op and have off currently until 2/1. Unfortunately we’re moving next week and even though I have a desk job, it’s phones, so my only off the phone time is lunch and break. Not super good for constant liquid drinking and needing to pee all the time. I’m hoping I’ll be back on some regular foods by 2/1 when I go back. I’m also still exhausted and I work a 10 hour shift so Im just going to enjoy the rest. -
Alright ... I'm back in town and officially starting today Weighed this morning -137.2. Not bad considering minibreak shenanigans January Goals - Protein, hydration & vitamins 2019 Goals - Keep my weight at 140 or lower, plastics in the fall Proudest Moment 2018 Wearing outfits I NEVER thought I'd be able to pull off. Being able to feel sexy, confident and professional is AMAZING. I finally look like the person I've always thought I was inside my head. This one is probably my favorite.

mousecat medical/dietary saga thread
Frustr8 replied to mousecat88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Total Parents I Nutrition, to give my beleagured jejunem and Precious Pouch some rest, I have a PICC line, which stands for Peripheral Inserted Central Catheter, starts out in my Basilic vein, upper inner surface of left arm, snakes through ever increasing gauge of the venous tree, ending up in my superior Vena cava, the large vein that collects blood from the upper half of my body, it is 48 cm long, a little under 19 inches, about the thickness of a strand of spaghetti, I think it is a 5-French, as a point of reference, most VSG sleeves are 32-35 French, so it is pretty tiny in comparison. I have a clear dressing over it, changed at least once a week, you see a small clear tube coming out with 2 ports on the end, one for IV, one the tube feeding goes through. Really pretty interesting. Does it hurt? Well a little, especially if you accidently tug it a little, but it is bearable, sometimes it itches a little around the dressing. I did have,it infusing all evening and night, 14 hours on, 10 off, but the first of January I was taken back to 12 on, 12 off, that's easier. Start it at 8 pm, take it off 8 AM. And now that I am getting it I do feel better, I was looking gaunt facially, and felt major creepy. The bad news I think,I have hit a stall, I was dropping weight fast when I was teetering on malnourishment and proteinemia, now that I have gotten more healthy IDK what next. The bags hold 3000ml so more than 3 quarts, they go inside a black backpack along with a battery-operated pump. Pretty heavy at the start, but wearable. I have on of my late husband's size 5X jackets I can wear if I am still pumping and need to go somewhere. It is currently clear, a very pale yellow from the vitamins you put in from a 💉, was milky at the start but they have removed the lipids now. I hope to be done in January or February, but not sure if their plan of care at this point. -
Actual time off work
crigney21 replied to KennyJenks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, So I met with the psychologist and nutritionist yesterday and was surprised when they told me I would need to take a month off of work, even though I work a desk job. Everything I'd read online said 1-2 weeks would be good. I see a lot of people here posting about 10-14 days is how long it took them to feel good going back to work. However, I would love to know if that 10-14 days is for those who got the sleeve or gastric bypass. I'm going to get gastric bypass and wanted to know if I should allot the 4 weeks that was recommended. If that is truly the case I will need to push off my surgery since I'm starting a new job. -
Dec 2018 - May 2019 Dietician Consult Buddies?!
🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My first surgeon visit in December 2018 also counted as a nutrition consult so my last consult should be in May. Monday, Jan 7th, I have the first true dietician consult in the evening. No idea what to expect yet so it'd be cool to keep up with other folks going through the same thing at the same time. Hollar at me! -
When can I expect weight loss?!?
James Marusek replied to MommyWeddle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In the hospital, they pump your body with fluids. It is common to weight 10 pounds more when you leave than when you entered. You have to lose this water weight first before you see results. -
I had my VSG on 11/19. I lost a good bit of weight for the first 4 weeks or so, but have basically been at the same weight for the last 2.5 weeks. I am eating about 1100 calories per day, getting in 64+ oz of water and hitting my 80+ grams of protein daily. I go to the gym 3 times a week.

I am in too! I wanted to post yesterday, but I had to translate kilos to lbs and I wrote it down on a paper but then I left home and forgot the paper so I am a bit late but I will post all my details from the second of January! My photo is from the 2nd of January . HW : 205 kilos/ 452 lbs SW : 185 kilos/ 408 lbs CW: 161,9 kilos/ 356,9 lbs Goal weight for end of January 150 kilos (I wish :p) /331 lbs Happiest moment in 2018 well it was on the 31st of December when I reached the lightest weight I was for the past at least 5 years... maybe even 10 years ! I am fitting to all my clothes in my wardrobe (including these that were not fitting me for many years) and I have to start making some of them smaller because they look so big on me. I will go to enroll myself to the swimming pool today, would love to start swimming again, and I also started some small weight training at home. I love seeing the weight go down almost effortlessly... last time I was around this weight was because I was going to the gym every day and I started piling them back the day I stopped it (from depression).

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
Frustr8 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
And you now officially had your " Come to Jesus" moment. I was told the same thing, worse when you consider I'm 73. But 4 months ago this Saturday I had my own Winter Wednesday and received an RnY , and my recovery has not been picture- perfect, but it is what it is and I'm still going to gain a total ✌ victory, no matter how long it takes.Don't know if my Weight Road will smooth out soon, but I also would never go back where I started. A wise thought to share: When life gives you a hundred reasons to break down and cry, show life you have a thousand reasons to smile and laugh. Remain strong! -
Hey there, peeps! 3. 2018 Goals: Goal weight: 140 pounds (less if my body says so...130-135 would be my college weight) Get back into my goal clothes. I never made it to goal with the band, but truly believe I can with the sleeve. Interestingly, I have great clothes in the mid-range/still fat (where I settled with my band), but will happily donate those clothes...when I get back in them (5-10 more pounds)...kind of addicted to clothes...love jeans...just counted, have 53 pair...WTF?! Who does that? I promise I am not a hoarder. Breast reduction/lift and brachioplasty.

Any other guys having surgery soon? My surgery day is rapidly approaching and I am ready to move to the next phase. Just ending my 10th day of pre-op liquid diet -- down 13 pounds in 10 days and 42 pounds since starting this journey in late July. Have been free of soda, caffeine and alcohol since Dec 1st.

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
Recidivist replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm turning 60 this year and am having bypass in February 2019. The turning point for me was when my primary care doctor told me I likely wouldn't live to see 75 if I didn't do something drastic to get healthy. -
I am scheduled for surgery in February 2019, and drinking water is one of my biggest post-op concerns. I drink a LOT of water, and I can't imagine taking tiny sips all day long. I'm glad to hear that it might be possible to drink like a normal person during maintenance. And how does it work if you are doing something or going somewhere that makes it impossible to drink for a few hours?
