GREEN POOP (sorry, TMI...lol...but seriously, I need to ask about this)
Creekimp13 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm on day 6 of my pre-op liquid diet. I'm surprised I'm pooping at all, since all I'm eating is jello, broth, fluids and protein drinks (and 100 calories of cream of wheat per day). Recently, I've started having greenish, kinda loose bowel movements. This was pretty alarming to me, cause I've always been told to associate green poo with infection. However, I've done some searches of different bariatric sites and found several people reporting the same weird green poo.......typically around day 6! At one of the sites, a doctor responds that this isn't a problem. Could be caused by bile and vitamins...and that it's fairly common. Has anyone else experienced the alien poo during the liquid diet? -
No idea what a poke bowl is, but was there dairy in either/both dishes? My first guess would usually be lactose intolerance (which is super common post op bariatric surgery) or IBS (which is also super common in overweight individuals). Though since your incidents were within 24 hours of each other its possible this was something acute instead (unless this isn't the first time you've had this issue)

I've got BCBS of Michigan. Did my 6 months and all prereqs, and the insurance "navigator" at my bariatric group submitted the request for me. Got my approval letter within a week! Am set to have surgery December 5th. Feeling excited and ready to go:) Having sleeve.

I also had to fulfill all of the insurances requirements which included 12 weeks of classes, attend support group and then the surgeons requirements including his class and support group. (Whew) Recently seen surgeon and received a date. He gave me a list of vitamins to have and start on. Then he gave a handout of what to expect and other things to get such as gas x, protein stuff etc. I have did so much that I am surprised at how little some are required to do. I know every insurance is different but still it seems some require very little to no training prior to bariatric surgery. I recently purchased the barimelt vitamins amd wondered if anyone else has tried them. Thanks for everyone that is positing. Makes me feel less like I am all alone.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the question Why?
MrsGamgee replied to StephersSweet's topic in Rants & Raves
This is me too... I'm not shy about telling people about going for bariatric surgery (I'm still pre-op). I've seen people succeed and I've seen people struggle with the surgery, but what finally sold me on it is the fact that it puts type 2 diabetes into remission for more than 85% of surgical patients, and that's what I share when anyone asks me 'why?'. Diabetes isn't a joke, and I have 2 beautiful reasons (aged 5 and 7) to want to stick around for a good long while. I love food, but I love my family more. -
My surgeons office sells bariatric advantage products at a discounted rate. So I used all their stuff Bariatrac advantage chewables twice a day Bariatrac advantage black cherry sublingual b12 once a day Bariatrac advantage calcium citrate chewables 500mg twice a day I don't use their protein powder because it's overpriced taste bad and makes me sick. But those 3 products are all tasty, easy to take, and designed specifically for bariatric patients. I'm very happy and would recommend any of them, plus it's exactly what my surgeon prefers us using so it's a win win

Feel better soon! If you don’t, see a reputable Bariatric surgeon. I went to a different surgeon referred by my gastro and so happy I did. The doc that placed the band kept telling me the band was fine. It obviously wasn’t. I have restriction now with the bypass. Very seldom hungry but have to eat to get my 60g protein a day.... and no more night coughs, GERD, fills or unfills. I hated that! I hope you feel better soon and wish you the best!

Are kids vitamin supplements good enough?
shedo82773 replied to Biddy zz 🏳️🌈's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Myself I have always taken vitamins made for WL people. I know after I fired my Surgeon and went to another Bariatric Surgeon and was told that FLINTSTONE Vitamins if doubled, would be enough. But they were horrible!! After my RNY I was told to use chewable Centrum, way too sweet for me. I couldn't wait to get something else. In comes CELEBRATE capsules. If you wanted to (told by my DR) you can open them and sprinkle them on applesauce or other food. I had no problems swallowing them. I do feel it is very important to use Bariatric Vitamins but each to their own. I hope you can get this worked out. -
"Ready" for surgery? How much were you able to change before surgery?
Creekimp13 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Little Green, I feel your pain. Sticking to my diet and changing my eating habits has been a mean angry beeyatch for me. LOL. After a lot of years of losing and regaining 50 pounds (plus a little extra, why not?)...my bad back, climbing sugar numbers and a cancer scare (I don't have it, thank the gods) finally forced the issue. Somthin gotta be done...I ain't happy like this. I just hit that...Ah crap, moment. Some people call it an Aha! moment. I think they're liars. LOL. For me, it was definitely Ah crap! One thing I noticed at a bariatric group support meeting...is that people lie a lot. The psychologist running the group asked, "What have you done this week to boost your activity?" And people's responses were: "I've done three hours of circuit training and cardio daily, when I'm not running marathons with disabled children and teaching the homeless to jog to keep warm" "I built a home gym and have networked with friends to workout together every day after work with a healthy recipe exchange. I've also joined a rowing team and take salsa dancing lessons three times a week." "I ran a triathalon, climbed Mt. Everest, and built new organizers into all my closets for the new clothes I can't wait to buy!" ....and I'm kinda lookin around at this group of 250-500 pound people thinking to myself... These people know the right answers. They've studied this. They are REALLY knowledgeable. (but are they seriously doing all this crap they say they're doing?) Then the psychologist asked the room, "What BAD eating choices have you made this week?" And I piped up, "One night I got really desperate and stupid, woke up at 3am, and slathered a piece of white bread with butter and put chocolate sprinkles on it and ate it in the bathroom." People looked at me in horror and laughed nervously. Psychologist, "Anyone else?" Crickets. Thanks guys. I'm the only freak here. Right. That's why most of the folks in this room have to buy two seats on the plane. LOL. (I didn't say that, of course) So yeah...I get it....this stuff is hard. A lot of fat people are perfectionists. They don't like to talk about being imperfect. For some, it's really hard to admit when they've been human, caved into the addiction, and had to get back up again. And I think that's the key....learning to get right back up after you did something stupid....and do the right thing again. Not hating yourself for it. Not beating yourself up. I'm not saying you shouldn't be accountable to yourself. Not saying that's a license to not improve. Just saying...accept that you're imperfect. It's ok. The best people aren't perfect. It's ok to struggle every single day, and make the choice to keep working. Now, to answer the question myself... I'm making some "good progress changing my eating habit" (I hope you read that in Dr. Nowzaradin's voice...cause that's how it was in my head) The fitbit has helped me A LOT. Making substitutions for things I really love to eat and can actually tolerate...has helped, too. I'm a carb ***** (rhymes with war)....but I've switched my carbs to low glycemic carbs, and I'm mindful of eating more protein. When I'm having a carb craving from hell....I have protein pancakes and can keep it at bay. I love my smoothie maker. Frozen banannas with cocoa and splenda and almond milk....saves me from most stupid impulses. When I "Need" pizza...I grab a California Kitchen four cheese pizza and dress it up with mushrooms, green peppers, onions and diced Canadian bacon. Half the pizza is about 470 calories. I have it with a big garden salad and life is good. I have learned to cook a lot of Thai and Chinese. I limit the rice to a quarter cup, and indulge in all those great flavors...garlic, ginger, coconut milk, curry, fish sauce, splenda brown sugar. Peanut butter chicken veggie soup is a staple at my house now. All my sandwiches are on pumpernickel. All my cheese is reduced fat swiss or part skim mozzarella...or cabot's 40% cheddar. Avacado toast with a poached egg, and chai seed pudding are staples in my diet. When I need my chicken nuggets, I make them with shake and bake. One think I think dieters do...that hurts them long term....is eating foods they hate. I refuse to do that anymore. It's harder to find stuff that's legal that you love....but I think that's a big key. You need to be happy. Exercise, which has always hated me....has become a lot of fun with my fitbit. Just upping your steps a hundred here and there feels like an accomplishment. You can start really slow, and you can walk absolutely anywhere. I've worn out the carpet in a loop around my house. LOL. Be patient with yourself. You can do this. Sometimes it takes a little longer to "get there". And sometimes even after we've gotten there...we spectacularly screw up and have to get up and try again. Just keep getting up. Wishing you the very best. -
ESG date is Tues Nov 21!
Tex Slim 66 replied to Tex Slim 66's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hey hope4momof4 the hunger question was the biggest thing that I couldn't make sense of either before I had my ESG procedure. So I'm still in the first week (day 5) but I really have not been "hungry". I realize how strange this sounds when sitting through Thanksgiving dinner and a big family breakfast like this morning. I read about this same lack of hunger post ESG procedure in a number of posts, like AlCzervik, Belle3endosleeve, AmyAlexis and others and struggled to understand how that could be. Here's my best guess as to why, I think it's a combination of physical and motivational reasons. The physical reason is that my smaller stomach is still adjusting to the ESG sutures and if I do drink something too quickly I can feel the gas pains I mentioned. This physical response is giving me feedback to slow down when I drink (and eventually eat), frankly this is a signal I needed as I was always the first one to finish a meal in our family (even if I ate the largest portion). The motivational reason is having yo-yo dieted so many times before and done the research about the effectiveness of bariatric procedures and spent the $$ for ESG I am determined to make this time successful in becoming the healthier me that I have missed for the last 20+years. At this early point after my procedure I know that liquid calories, unhealthy food choices or grazing are not taking me to a place that I want to be and I do feel my willpower has been reinforced by completing the ESG procedure. It's a different level of commitment that I feel to getting my weight and body shape to a healthier place for the rest of my life. So yes, I don't feel it has been hard to stick to the liquid diet, supportive family definitely helping as well!! I know it's a prolonged explanation, actually I found it really useful to share my thoughts, so thanks for asking!! I took some upper body photos (where I am carrying most of my weight) and can use these for visual reinforcement when needed (not yet). Thanks too to AmyAlexis, for your support, hope all continues to go well for you! -

Great Low Carb Bread
Mhy12784 replied to Sherry Rice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also the numbers your nutritionist sent you don't even make sense If you're supposed to have 35g of carbohydrates max, 20g of fat max. And eat 800-1000 calories a day this means you need between 115g and 165g of protein a day to reach those numbers. Now I'm all about the high protein thing and rarely think too much protein is a bad thing. But doesn't 165g of protein for a bariatric female losing weight sound insane? I mean it you're an Olympic weight lifter or something that's a complete different story, but it just sounds odd to me. -
I think across the board the start up process is the same, go to a seminar/find out who accepts medicaid. The harder part is finding out the medicaid requirements which differ depending on which state you live in. I'm in Connecticut and a few days after the seminar, I was contacted by the surgeon's office to come in for a consultation. At the consultation he discussed with me which surgery I was interested in, which he thought was best for me, and my eating habits. The surgeon actually gave me the list of requirements for medicaid to approve the surgery. 7 months of nutritionist appointments, psych eval, upper endoscopy, cardiology, ultrasound, and a sleep study. I'm about to do nutrition appointment 2 of 7, and have already done the ultrasound, sleep study, and have appointments scheduled for next year for the remainder of my appointments. Also, its best to have a referral from your PCP for Bariatric surgery. Best wishes and good luck!

Gummy vitamins
Mhy12784 replied to confusedturtle3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe I'm the only one but I really enjoy then bariatric advantage chewables, they actually taste good and basically disintegrate completely in seconds. I'm still on liquids so I actually look forward to them, it's like candy. I'll probably switch to swallowables once I finish this bottle but they were great and I'd highly recommend (not to mention they're also made specifically for bariatric patients so their is that) -
I’m sorry your going through this, when I first starting on the journey the first big topic we talked about was the change this process would put our relationship thru. I was so worried after reading many articles of people divorcing after Bariatric surgery. The two people whom are my family members that have had Bariatric surgery both got divorced. Two separate couples. Which is sad. Technically it’s not the surgery but the life style change that comes with it. Support from your spouse is going to be huge for you. I hope you guys can get help maybe see a therapist or something that can get u guys connected. I’m extremely thankful that my husband loves me regardless of my size but I know he is gonna miss my curves... I mean they will still be there just smaller[emoji6]

Gummy vitamins
Rawlinos replied to confusedturtle3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ya I hate these chewable celebrate vitamins they always make me feel sick. I was wondering about the vitamin patches but read some where on here that our bodies cannot absorb vitamins externally so therefore the bariatric vitamin patches won't work. Anyone know if this is true or have any experience using these? -
Talk to Me About Tipping the Valet
Berry78 replied to UndercoverDiet's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I found there was a ton of people to tip. The valets at the hospital (there are several), and the valet at the hotel. Then there are the drivers to and from the airport. And tipping at the restaurants and cab drivers (and cab fares). And the hotel maid when you leave. For the most part, you'll want to bring lots of small bills.. ones, fives, and tens will be enough for the majority of that list. What would be nice is if Bariatric Pal (for Dr. Illan) would collect the tips for the hospital valets when you get there, so you aren't having to worry about it while sick. By time you leave for the hotel your brain is more clear and it's easier to handle "business". -
Weight Loss or Weight Management Classes - Denver, CO
catwoman7 replied to dengle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
most bariatric clinics run their own classes after you've been accepted into their program if your insurance requires a six-month supervised diet, that can sometimes be done wherever (as long as it's supervised by a doctor or dietitian). I did my supervised diet before I was accepted into the surgery program, since my insurance specified that the diet be done any time within the last two years (prior to surgery). But all companies are different... -
I'm lost. HELP!!!
James Marusek replied to Dkae2719's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had surgery at a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. These Centers of Excellence are available in many states. The Centers of Excellence provide a complete support for the surgery. There are many components that require a range of specialist beyond just a surgeon who specializes in Bariatric Surgery. They include nutritionist, psychologists, a hospital that specializes in bariatric surgery, staff that work insurance issues, pre-op testing, weight loss and exercise programs, bariatric surgery support group meetings, five years of post-op follow-ups. It is like a "full meal deal", no pun intended. -
Gummy vitamins
Deemar007 replied to confusedturtle3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was told from my bariatric team that the gummy vitamins do not have the minerals we need. They have not figured out a way to put them in the gummies. So that is why they want us to do flintstone vitamins or some other choice besides the gummies. -
Started a Facebook Group page cause I think having people in a network would be easier to communicate with... Trina Carrie Robinson Stuart — group name— —bariatric buddies - bariatric spelled wrong sorry y’all

Leading normal life while taking lots of supplements.
GwennyPenny replied to MTaylorEE's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I had the RNY bypass (Aug 10 2017) so it may be different. I take BN Multi chewable and BN Cal + D chewable twice per day. Both are bariatric vitamins and I have Vit B injections which at the moment are monthly but that will change. When it says chewable it makes it sound like they are soft and chewy but they aren't. They are hard and you crunch them up. I thought there would be more but these two seem to have everything in them that is needed. I was taking Q10 but had to stop for the surgery and had 3 more surgeries so I just stayed off them. Just this week I added myself a hair nails and skin tonic and biotin because I noticed a bit more hair than usual coming out but it's stopped so might have been a false alarm lol Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had a band placed in 2011. Worst medical decision I ever made. I caused major problems ... Acid reflux, night coughing, and more. In the last three or so years I had horrible doubling over pain at least 3-5 days a week. After a gastro did an EGD on me he found gastritis and esophagitis to where my pouch opening to the stomach was nearly closed due to inflammation. He referred to to a Bariatric surgeon suggesting a revision the the sleeve. I ended up having an emergency revision to gastric bypass. I did not choose the LB removal only because of weight regain. My surgeon said that the sleeve would make my GERD worse so I chose the RNY. No More GERD! No More Pain either! I feel great! During the surgery he found my stomach high in my chest due to a hiatal hernia caused by the band. He also did repairs to the esophagus (was in an S shape). Also my port was nearly detached. My new bariatric surgeon’s Center for Bariatric Excellence no longer places Lapband... but does a lot of removals and revisions due to serious so many complications.

I got the Tespo liquid vitamin dispenser and am taking the Mens Bariatric Complete bundle. Figured I'd get a head start.
