    Phase 3 foods

plain nonfat green Yogurt, sometimes I mix with sugar free jello, cottage cheese (I put in a little pineapple juice to make it taste better), eggs! including hard boiled, over easy, omelette, and scrambled. snack pack sugar free chocolate pudding, tomato soup, ricotta cheese and jello (make sugar free jello and just when it is starting to set, put in blender with 16 oz of low fat ricotta cheese and blend--put in container(s)--great treat!!!)
  4. I am trying this next week. I'll let you know how it turns out. Looks delicious. I also found another recipe for pizza crust that I was going to try down the road that would be higher Protein. It's just self rising flour and greek yogurt. Supposed to make great crust but I can't eat anything resembling bread right now or I'll get sick.

    Acid Reflux

I found lots of meds from the doctor helped along with tiny frequent meals of stomach coatimg foods like greek yogurt and higher ph waters... good luck! My acid reflux was awful.... most awful pain ever for weeks and then the meds kicked in... next step ph test in november.
  6. I have been in the dreaded "3 week stall" for about a week now, which corresponds to the time I started introducing the standard "real" foods (cottage cheese, tuna, yogurt, etc.). Are the two related? Just curious about others' experience.
  7. I had RNY last October. I went home on pureed. I mostly ate yogurt, my protein shakes, ricotta bake and sugar free jello and popsicles. I advanced to soft foods (eggs, string cheese, mashed fish, etc) at two weeks and then to most foods (chicken, lunch meat, etc) with some restrictions (seeds, fibrous veggies, steak, etc) at 31 days. You will need to continue drinking the protein shakes for at least a few months in order to get in the required protein. You just can't eat enough at first. Even though I hated all protein shakes, I forced one down every morning to make sure I got enough protein.

    Got aoproved

For about 5-7 days, you will be on a clear liquid diet. Weak tea, broth, gelatin, sugar-free popsicles and zero-calorie, non-carbonated drinks. Make sure it is at least 45 ounces. The second week after surgery, you will go to full liquids for about a week such as watered down cream soups (cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, cream of broccoli, etc.). This also includes yogurt, watered down mashed potatoes and watered down cooked cereals. I say watered down but you can use low-fat or plant milk. All foods must be at room temperature. You can have sugar free popsicles too. Of course, you must remember your protein shakes. The three most important things are protein, water, and supplements. The third week after surgery you are on protein shakes and pureed (like applesauce) meat and veggies but no more than 3 tablespoons at a time. At this stage, you might want to get a baby plate and spoon just to make you visually more comfortable with how little you are eating. Again all foods must be at room temperature. There are medical transportation companies around that will pick you up, get any post-op meds you need and get you settled in your own bed. Check to see in your area. Mine is going to do all that for me for $75.00 which to me is well worth it. I would also either hire a dog walker or board your dog with a reputable person for a few days. Even the little ones tug at the leash which will not feel good on your suture sights. By the way, don't forget to buy your vitamins (liquid or chewable but not gummy bear types) that you will need. Do you have a pillow to hold against your abdomen for coughing and sneezing? Also, you need to walk and cough then walk and cough some more to avoid clots and adhesions. My doctor has written a couple of books that you might find informative or look up some of the books mentioned in FAQ.
  9. I can't stand the protein drinks anymore either However since I'm only 2 and a half weeks post op I can't get enough protein from anything else. I eat chicken soup, cream of wheat and yogurt. I go to see the Dr today so I'll see what she says. I have been able to eat a little bit of food, but I get a lot of pain in my stomach, I guess my new tummy isn't ready just yet. I am finding that I am getting a lot of headaches these days too. I wonder if it's from lack of protein. Any thoughts??
  10. I had my surgery nine days ago and it went great. No pain or discomfort from day one I could tolerate clear liquids and even an ounce of yogurt several times a day. I am getting in 64 ounces of water in a day and 90/120 grams of protein. I use paleo egg protein mixed into my drinks. I average 700-900 calories a day. I have only lost two pounds since the surgery as good as I feel I am actually afraid that I will put weight on as I don't feel any restriction. It worries me has any one else experienced this?
  11. Hi guys, I know you all share your usernames here but I have no idea how to add y'all . My screen name is donaboss.. I would love to see what you all eat after surgery.. Not to sound creepy.. I am only getting about 400 calories and I'm on my third week. Everything disgusts me besides yogurt. Thanks guys
  12. OK . . . so I am almost eight months out and only 10 pounds from my initial goal. I have been following the rules at least 95% of the time, working the plan, doing my exercise, keeping my eating in check. So banding is working and working very well for me. I have been feeling on top of the world. I also felt like I have "overcome" my food addiction which involves driven, impulsive, mindless consumption of very specific food choices either with high fat/salt content or high sugary sweet/carb laden content after dinner but before bed. I could count the number of "binge" episodes on one hand and still have fingers left over since banding. Well, about a week ago I pb'd, which happens rarely, and had some reflux that night, which also happens rarely. I got sicker and sicker day by day until I had reflux and coughing just about all night long. I went on liquids but my stomach was so irritated that I was pb'ing everything until last Thursday when I could no longer ingest more than a tablespoon of Water at a time. Over several days, I had ingested almost nothing other than water, Protein drinks and coffee. My stomach was closing up so I went in for an emergency unfill. They took out a little and I could drink comfortably, had Soup for dinner and have felt altogether human again in the days since. So last night I had a healthy dinner, a yogurt based soup which has a tiny amount of rice and mint sauteed in butter, along with a spinach/ground beef dish topped with garlic yogurt. I ate about 1/4-1/2 cup of each. Probably ate 3/4 cup total, was pleasantly satisfied. 1/2 hour later . . . I wanted a little Cereal, which I haven't eaten in months. I ate a partial coffee cup of honey bunches of oats with almonds. 10 minutes later, I had another partial cup of fruity pebbles cereal in milk. 5 minutes later, I wanted some of the cherry topped cheesecake in the refrigerator and I ate a full serving. 5 minutes later and just about full to bursting I ate maybe 2-3 tablespoons of chocolate w/chocolate chip cookie dough that was made up for a dinner party that will happen later today. Soooo . . . . I binged probably about 2 cups worth of food. This was worsened by the fact that it went down easily with milk and was mostly carb based with a ton of sugar and fat. What happened to me??? Am I still just this weak??? Loosen my band and I am just the same old/same old girl with a food problem. I feel sad and disgusted today . . . and I have a lovely dinner party to cook for throughout the day. Woe is me :sad_smile::thumbup:

    Post-Op Diet - Protein shakes???

My nutritionist didn't advise putting anything into the Protein shake. i was having problems, gagging and vomiting and she suggested unjury Protein shakes, which you can only get online It took getting used to, but it is not that bad, chocolate splender is the best. Had my surgery 2 weeks ago, 24 pounds down!! good luck I've read a lot of others posts pertaining to Post-Op diets, but I am somewhat confused still about the liquid stage and protein drinks. My question is: Are we allowed to add stuff (fruits, PB, syrups, yogurt, SF Jello powders, etc...) into our protein drinks/shakes in the full liquid stage? I CANNOT stand the smell or after taste of the protein drinks, but have found that if I can add a little PB, syrup, etc...I can handle it.

    Any Vegetarian Sleevers? Spicy food?

I'm so happy to hear that! I always get so excited when someone tries my recipes--or an authentic curry--and loves it! The gravy is really similar to what you'd get in an Indian restaurant...minus the cream and ton of oil/ghee. Good for you for getting the spices! You can use them in all sorts of recipes, and since being sleeved I find myself adding turmeric (helps with inflammation and promotes healing, among other things) to nearly everything! Tonight I made a simple dish of shrimp cooked with cilantro, lime juice, mustard seeds, turmeric, coriander, cumin and garam masala...with a little yogurt dipping sauce. So easy...and so flavorful! As for the rice, I've been eating it--in tiny amounts--since I began purees. I don't have any issues with it, and my weight loss has not been impacted. (7.5 weeks out, 39.6 pounds down). You shouldn't have trouble in Asia. There should be plenty of lentils, tofu or paneer, if you're in India.
  15. Just had my first pureed food tonight. I took some refried beans, mixed in some greek yogurt and Chohula Sauce. Stirred it all together and scooped into muffin pans (purely for portion control). Topped with cheese and heated in the oven. Yum! I really have missed savory flavors other than cream of chicken soup : ) Cant wait to decide what to puree tomorrow!
  16. I had my surgery with Dr. Ariel Ortiz in Mexico over two years ago. Even then His dietician STRONGLY recommended the use of probiotics. She wanted us on drinkable yogurts with live cultures starting 3 days postop. They also offer and encourage their patients to use their line of bariatric Vitamins that include a probiotic supplement. I did not use their line, but I do take whole food based vitamins that include prebiotics, probiotics and digestive enzymes. I also eat Greek yogurt with live cultures every day. I lost over 100% of my excess weight and have kept it off for two years. I have no idea how much of an impact the probiotics played because it's something I've taken from the very beginning.

    Microbiology research questions

That is quite good to know (the pushing of a yogurt rich diet). Depending upon the brand and such, they can have an extremely varied microbe content. I suppose an interesting test would be to break down post surgical success based upon which yogurt brands (and in turn, which microbes) lead to the most desirable outcome. That experiment would be much further down the line however LOL. Speaking with my mother, she remembers being pushed into an extremely high protein diet post bypass, and told to avoid fruits and vegetables. I had forgotten that fact. Thanks for the insight, Brad

    How much is too much?

It really depends on WHAT you are eating. There's a big difference between a cup of cottage cheese and a cup of chicken. I'm 5 months post op and my typical day is: Breakfast: Protein Bar Morning Shack: Reduced Fat String Cheese Lunch: 2-3 ounces of meat (usually leftovers from a previous dinner) Afternoon Snack: Light Greek Yogurt with a little granola on top Dinner: 3-4 ounces of meat (whatever the protein is from what my husband cooks for dinner) Evening Snack: Protein Bar dinner is usually my "biggest" meal in terms of quantity. Depending on what we are having I can usually get close to 4 ounces.

    August Sleevers

I was sleeved 8/13. Having a little tenderness on the inside near my belly button. Is anyone else? Getting a little discouraged as I gave been at a stall for 5 days. SW 246, CW 234. I am still on clear liquids and protein shakes ONLY until tues then I can start yogurt, cream of soups, and even purées. Wondering if I am not getting enough calories and my bodies thinks its in starvation mode- thus the stall?? I have been following my doctors plan to the tee!

    Saying hello

My surgery will be 3 weeks ago on Thursday. All docs are different. Mine has us do 3 phases of 2 weeks each. I'm in phase 2 now, "very soft foods". But I still need the protein shakes, Greek yogurt, etc to make up the protein I need. The food is such small portions that I'm not able to get enough protein out of it. Food I can eat right now is 2 ounce servings of one of these: scrambled egg whites (Egg Beaters), cottage cheese, potatoes, Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, refried beans, stuff like that. Hope this helps!
  21. I start the purée stage this week, and I have prepared and frozen two weeks worth of meals so it will be easy for me, since I start back to work tomorrow too. I used MyFitnessPal to assess the nutritional values for each recipe. My plan is to use these recipes plus porridge, yogurt, and puréed fruit to get me through it. They all have the sign-off of my dietitian, but may or may not be on your plan. I tasted the smallest amount of each one so I can say that in my opinion, they all taste good and offer some variety. I shared the recipes, including how to purée chicken, to the Recipe Sharing section of the food and Nutrition forum. I hope it is helpful!

    Any Vegetarian Sleevers? Spicy food?

www.myfancypantry.com Since being sleeved (I'm 7 weeks out) I've enjoyed the chicken masala and chole masala quite often. When I was on purees I would blend them up with a little greek yogurt and, occasionally, some rice. Most of the recipes are not completely WLS friendly--but quite a few can easily be tweaked. This blog is fairly successful, and I don't really plan on making it "vsg friendly." I really enjoy cooking with real foods and creating fun dishes. I don't foresee myself using sugar-free ingredients or replacing ingredients with "diet" food. For right now, I don't eat everything that I've posted. My husband does. If it fits into my plan, I'll try it though (just a taste). My ultimate goal is enjoying--with moderation--something I could never do before surgery! To find the curry recipes I've posted so far: On the right hand side of the blog there should be a category menu. Choose "Indian" or "curry" ...they should pop up. I'm hoping I'll be successful with my surgery and eventually I'll be able to enjoy a little bit of anything I make.
  23. Scrambled eggs (for breakfast), yogurt, chili...not sure how cooking creative you are when camping, but what about taking foil packets with salmon and zucchini? If you will be using a camp stove, refried beans with cheese (maybe make fajitas for the husband). You could probably eat a hot dog or hamburger, if you chewed it very carefully.
  24. Kroger has carbmaster yogurt that is 12 grams of protein and 3 net carbs. Also try crabcakes-maybe making your own with less bread and more crab meat. Sugar-free pudding is less than 5 grams of carbs,

Off to a Good start...Try this yummy high-protein breakfast!

I also took that same spinach and made a dip out of it by mixing other veggies (mushrooms, tomatoes, green onions) and a little plain greek yogurt into it. The whole bowl had less than 300 calories in it!
