Anyone having surgery in Oct ?
kvoneye replied to Jenaenae84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been drinking chocolate milk since day one. The elixir they gave me for pain is enough to make a person puke along with the liquid prilocec. I finally told the dr no way to both. Pain isn't too bad and the prilocec I have, I just break a part and mix with orange yogurt. -

@@LumpySpacePrincess gave you some of the best advice I've seen around these parts. I'm a couple weeks further out than you, and I can rarely eat vegetables at this point - it's all Protein. For Breakfast I have one scrambled egg with a little cheese in it. For lunch I have one slice of meatloaf, or some steak, or chicken, or shrimp, or fish, or meatballs (Costco) whatever is leftover from dinner the night before - no more than1/3 cup. After dinner I like a sugar-free popsicle. For breakfast, if I don't feel like cooking an egg, I'll have a dannon light & fit yogurt (I checked the labels yesterday on that vs. Oikos triple zero - Oikos has 3 grams more protein but also more carbs), or a piece of lunch meat wrapped around cheese and heated in a pan. My fluids are crystal light, unless I'm in a store and I'm thirsty then I'll have a bottled Water. Definitely no juice. That's it. -
I am naming this morning's Protein shake "Almond Joy." I mixed 1 scoop Isopure Low Carb Dutch chocolate Protein powder with 6 oz Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almondmilk Coconutmilk Blend. You lose some of the protein vs. mixing it with skim milk, but the flavor was quite festive! It was still 25 g protein. Almond Breeze is in the refrigerated "healthy" dairy section of the grocery store... where they sell Horizon milk, Yo Baby yogurt, tofu, etc. The Vitamin Shoppe has 1 lb bags of Isopure, so you don't have to commit to a whole 3 lb tub.

Hi ya'll I'm 10 days out and wanted to hear from others what are your daily meals like and amounts or Oz per each meal. Breakfast - primier shake sip the whole 11oz in 2 hour time frame. lunch Water dinner. Soup maybe 2oz or so Water through the day maybe spoon of yogurt kefir here and there. -
It gets better but it is part of the process to chew everything very well. And back to your other post, you shouldn't be chewing right now. Sorry but you have to let your stomach heal. You have to find someway of getting Protein. Have you tried adding Protein powder to your pudding that NUT allows? I use Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate and even my non-WLS friends at work comment on how good it smells - especially the vanilla. I add the vanilla powder to yogurt (not sure if you can have that yet) and chocolate powder to my sugar free Chocolate pudding. You have to try some other brands and add stuff to them - PB2 cover a lot of flavor if you like Peanut Butter. Any of the Sugar Free Torani flavored syrups help a lot. Premier Protein ready shakes is like drinking chocolate milk. Try those if you haven't. And drink all of them from a cup with a lid so you are not smelling it. Keep trying.

As it turns out, I have a pretty bad case of dumping syndrome. And I'm not entirely sure what causes it and how to manage it as it had started up rather suddenly. I wasn't sure it was dumping syndrome but I have confirmed it with my surgeon that it is. After I eat I become severely nauseated for about an hour, 30 minutes if I take zofran. It's so bad all I can do is lay there and groan. I can't talk or walk. It seems to be set off by anything sweet- ice cream, evens glass of milk, yogurt, etc. It also seems to happen at other times- just after any meal. I'm not sure what's triggering it. Can dumping be triggered by portion size alone? What foods trigger your dumping if you have it? What can be done to help with the symptoms? How do I avoid this from happening? Any advice appreciated. It's pretty awful.

I never hear anyone talk about the pain you feel when you eat solid food. I'm wondering I am the only one experiencing this? The pain is excruciating, it'll take me to my knees! I'm unable to function, barely able to handle it at all and it will last for 2-4 hours. When I was able to eat solid food, the first thing I tried was soup with veggies so soft they melted in your mouth. I had two teaspoonfuls and before I took my third I felt this really hard knot forming from my stomach to my throat, my back teeth started ringing and shooting pain. It hurt so bad I could barely get to my bed to lay down! It lasted 3 hrs. I figured I ate to fast. The next day, I tried again, the same thing I figured I ate to much this time. It took me awhile to try again, it really is something I am afraid of now! The next time was on the day of my 1st check up, 10 days later. I had a scrabbled egg, chewed the crap out of, took 20 minutes to eat it and didn't actually eat the whole egg! It didn't hurt but it was alittle uncomfortable. My doc app was fine! So from the time I ate it to the time my doctors appointment was over was 3 hrs. I got into my truck and took a sip of water (first sip since before breakfast) and almost instantly I was doubled over in pain. I sat in the parking lot for about 40 minutes before I could drive, I still wasn't ok but better. When I got home I went right to bed. An hour later I tried water again and same thing, pain. At this point it was 5 hr since breakfast, and by now I'm behind on my water consumption. It was a total of 8 hrs of pain. Thankfully it goes away and I'm able to drink water again! Doctor told me to goto liquids only again for a while. It's about 7 weeks since surgery and I can't do solid food unless it puréed. I've hurt myself a couple more times trying to salmon and spaghetti O's. Now I'm just to afraid to eat. I stick with the protein drinks, yogurt and broth. If it doesn't have protein in it then I don't bother. My family and friend keep telling me that I have to eat at some point but I'm to afraid and plus no appetite. Doctor says that with the supplement and protein drink I can live fine. Does anyone else experience this pain?

Premier Protein ready to drink has 30g. per bottle. 2 of those and you're done. You can make Soups with double milk (milk mixed with milk powder) for extra protein. Make pudding the same way. Soft scrambled eggs, greek yogurt, tuna.

@@tootie09 May I ask what kind of "protein" you are using? Are they pre-made shakes or are you using powder? Are you using anything besides Water to mix the powder with? Also, keep in mind that even foods such as puddings, Popsicles, yogurts, thinned out Cottage cheese won't really give you much of a full feeling. The do fill you up much more than just liquid but they exit your pouch in the same way liquid would. When can you start off Clear Liquids into full liquids or purees?

Welcome! In general, I’d say have a little more Protein and veggies to fill up on fewer calories. 1. Breakfast: Maybe have a smaller serving of bagel and have some protein, like a hard-boiled egg white or some cottage cheese. Or have a little less Cereal and mix it with yogurt. Depending on how hungry you are, you could have some fruit, too, because it’s filling and not too high-calorie, and can tide you over. 2. Lunch: For eating out, a green salad is usually safe. You can get the dressing on the side and have grilled chicken (protein) on top, and try to order it without fatty extras like salami and mounds of cheese (a little is okay). You can also go for chicken breast and a side of veggies. 3. Snack: Protein Bars (if you like them) keep in the car. Almonds are good, as long as you keep the serving small. You could also go for pouches of tuna or canned sardines or macerel. 4: Dinner: It’s a pretty safe bet to go with a protein and a cooked veggie or side salad, plus a starch if you need more. For example, chicken, fish, or a veggie or turkey burger, plus broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, etc., plus a small amount of sweet potato or winter squash or brown rice. If you’re willing to cook a little, you can do chili or stir fry – a mixture of protein and veggies. 5. Snack: Yogurt, cottage cheese, protein pudding, fruit. Good luck!

Pudding at the second day?! That's crazy. Full liquids is anything that can run off a spoon. Try some yogurt mixed with a little milk.

Elode, Don’t worry – I sure wouldn’t judge someone who’s lost over 100 lbs in 11 months! I love lox! Smoked salmon is great in terms of convenience and taste, plus Protein and healthy fats. I worry about the sodium, since a serving can have your entire sodium quota for the day. I also worry about nitrites, which are used as a preservative just like in processed meats (like ham and turkey breast and other deli meats). They’re carcinogenic. But I still love lox, especially with fat-free cream cheese. Let’s see, my go-to for breakfast is probably Greek yogurt and blueberries. It’s easy, and healthy, and high-protein. I can grab it on the way out the door, and if I use frozen blueberries, I don’t need to go shopping for it too often. I can pick up what I need in a regular shopping trip. I also love oatmeal. It’s so easy and healthy, considering how filling and delicious it is. If I feel the need, I can have a hard-boiled egg white for some protein. Egg whites and liquid egg substitute are great – you can make them in minutes and add whatever you want, like cheese or turkey or vegetables, and call it a breakfast scramble. Proudgrammy…I remember those dozen donut days!

I eat about 4.5 oz dannon oikos triple zero vanilla yogurt with an oz of (thawed) triple berry frozen mixed berries over top each morning for breakfast. I do find that it fills me up, but I get hungry a couple hours later so I always pack a cheese string for a mid morning snack.

On the weekends I look forward to my cottage cheese pancake (doesn't sound good but it's yummy). Made with cottage cheese, oatmeal and an egg, all blended in my mini food processor. I add vanilla extract, Splenda & cinnamon for flavor. I also have either bacon or turkey sausage with it. During the week, I keep it simple. It's either 80 cal. Yoplait Greek yogurt with a sprinkle of blueberry granola for some crunch or I order an omelette from the deli at work & coffee, coffee, coffee.. That's a must EVERYDAY! Today it was oatmeal with a little raisen and honey. Not picture worthy.

Tonight at my house...souvlaki. Basically pork tenderloin marinated in lemon, olive oil and fresh oregano. I will slice it, skewer it, and put it on the grill. Serve it up with a green salad and tzatziki sauce( yogurt, garlic and cucumber....Yum! Usually I would serve it with rice (pre-op) but tonight maybe sweet potato.

Greek yogurt helps you get protein and if you get plain, you can spruce it up with cinnamon and Splenda or cocoa and Splenda. Lots of ways to make it taste better.
-
I really like the Pure Protein bars too. I get them at Sams. But, I don't generally have a Protein Bar or Protein shake for Breakfast anymore. For breakfast I generally have an Oikos triple 0 greek yogurt (15 gms protein) and about an hour or so after that (I am STILL hungry!!) I have a P3 (meat cubes, cheese cubes and some unsalted nuts-prepackaged) 13 gms Protein. I am soooo hungry in the mornings!

Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt - Toasted Coconut - 80 cal & 12g protein and tastes great!
-
I didn't have any that last 6 weeks, but I did leading up to that point. Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt is the ticket. Every flavor of it is excellent. High Protein content, too. Excellent product.

Which brand of yogurt did you have if any during the pre op 2 weeks. I'm allowed one a day. This is day 6 for me and I had a yogurt for the first time yesterday. And I started to feel hungry which I haven't all week and later when I came home I got a headache. I can't remember the name because it was odd. You can get it at whole foods. It wa a nonfat 5oz yogurt,100 cal, 0.5g of fat, 5grams of fiber and 14 g of protein and 13g of carbs. How bad was this?

@@bellabloom Here is my go-to list 1. Breakfast. Skinny crustless quiche 2.00 cup(s), All Whites 100% liquid Egg Whites 0.25 tsp(s), Spices, pepper, black 0.25 tsp(s), Salt, table 0.50 cup, shredded, cheese, mozzarella, low moisture, part-skim 1.00 cup, Cottage Cheese - Non Fat 0.25 cup, chopped, Broccoli, cooked, boiled, drained, without salt 0.33 lb(s), Ground Turkey 85/15 - 3 Lb. Pkg You can substitute carrots or whatever other veggies you want. It makes 8 servings and is 113 calories roughly, 15 grams of Protein. I put some pineapple citrus salsa on it to spice it up a bit. I'll switch it up every now and then and just do whole egg, scrambled and some kind of meat to keep me full until lunch rolls around. 2. Lunch. Low fat Turkey meatloaf 1.00 lb(s), Fit & Easy 99% Fat Free Ground Turkey Breast 3.00 oz(s), Tomato Paste, 100% Natural 1.00 tbsp(s), Tomato Paste, 100% Natural 1.00 egg, Large Egg - Yummy and Delicious 1.00 large, eggs - White only, raw 2.00 tbsp(s), Cheese, parmesan, grated 3.00 clove(s), Garlic, raw 4.00 tablespoons, Restaurant Style Salsa Citrus Pineapple 1.00 cup, Chopped White Onion makes 4 servings, 186 calories, 8g carbs, 32g of protein 3. Snack Light string cheese, 50 calories a piece - 9g protein or non fat greek yogurt - 80 - 100 - 12g protein or Pure Protein Bar - chocolate deluxe - 190 calories, 21g of protein 4. dinner. Depends on the day really, sometimes I eat 4 oz grilled chicken breast, sometimes I have some beef or turkey meatballs in some marinara sauce. Up to this point in my day, I've pretty much met my protein quota, but I still like to get a little more in. 5. Late night snack. I try to stay away from this as much as possible. But if I am going to snack, I get something light, 1 oz of mixed nuts or a yogurt of some kind. After a long week, I will grab a bowl of ice cream (exactly the serving size! not opening a pint and finishing it). You appreciate it so much more when it's only once in a while and not every night. Plus Blue Bell is back on the shelves in Texas! Throw stones if you want, but I've never hit a stall more than 2 weeks because I always keep my body guessing! The moment you start getting in a routine, your body gets used to it and you got to shock it with some good calories every now and again. As you can tell, I did not mention anything about Protein shakes. I quit protein shakes when I was able to start eating meat because I get enough protein that way. I absolutely hate protein shakes now because of the first 6 weeks of nothing but powdered protein...yuck! If I never have to drink another one in my life, I'll be happy!

Sleeved August 26 but only 20lbs
LisaS73 replied to del112's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 8/27 and was 315 the day of surgery and today i weigh 285. I have had two stalls already but dr and nut keep saying i am doing great. I am a little reluctant to try new foods as most aren't agreeing with me so i still mostly stick to 3 protien shakes a day, one triple zero greek yogurt, a banana or grapes (to help with constipation), and lemon water. Otherwise, i just graze whatever the family is having or whatever i cook them, but like i said most of it isn't agreeing. I usually have a shake with them at the table while they eat. And if you are still having periods, dont forget bloating and water weght from that is a factor. That was actually the culprit of my first "stall". And my nutritionist told me if i feel like I've overeaten or eaten badly, i can always do a reset and go back to liquids for a day or two. Sometimes that can also kickstart a stall back in gear. Good luck and don't be too hard on yourself!
