    I know stalls...

Yeah, I know they are normal, but it makes me so angry that I stall for a third time in 2 months. My surgery was on 8/12 and I barely lost 40lbs since then.. I saw people here losing 90... Ugh, ROAR!
  2. Hi everyone! Hope all is well. I was wondering if there were any Bypass vets out there who's highest weight was the in the 400's. Mine was 437LB and I just want to know how much weight have you lost and about how long did it take you to lost it after surgery? Im curious because I am 3 weeks out and have only lost 5LBS. But I am not eating hardly anything. So just curious. Thanks.

    too much?

Wow. I'm a week out as well and I take take a few large sips which I thought was alot. Do you take a sip every minute or so or is it easier than that?

    Is this normal? HELP!

I think you have to take some advice from another support group. "Just take one day a time" Break it down even farther if you have to do it to make it through it. Don't look at the big picture. And "if" you have a slip up, don't beat yourself up about it. Put it behind you and go on with the plan. And, definitely, give yourself a reward before you go in for surgery. NOT a food reward, put maybe a pedicure, a new shirt that is one size smaller than what you wear now, a massage, something that will give this all meaning. Just like a real job where you get a paycheck at the end of the week, pay yourself for working hard and getting through this phase. You can choose to control what you eat or continue to let food control you!
  6. my weight loss had slowed for a few weeks but its picking up again pretty rapidly due to the calorie drop
  7. I really try not to be fixated on food but I have noticed something these past two weeks or so. It seems like I can eat less, instead of the slight increase I expected. I'm fine with that, I'm getting plenty of calories as it is and fluids don't seem to be an issue so its fine but I just feel like its strange. When I started on solid foods I was getting about 4-6 ounces down pretty easily but now, a little more than 90 days out I'm having to push a little to get in 3 ounces. I don't think anything as changed as far as my chewing habits. I'm not sure if this is really a problem or not. Anyone experience that?

    Is this gas?

I had the same thing up until a few weeks ago. Doc said it was normal, nothing helps but time.
  9. I've experienced some constipation as well. I mentioned it during my 1mo post op and my nurse said not to worry too much unless I feel bloated, that since I have greatly reduced the amount I'm eating, it is normal not to need to go as much. However, I've had a couple episodes where it was extremely difficult to go, and one episode where I thought I was headed toward a digital removal, but a dulcolax suppository was eventually effective. I don't really like to take Miralax, even though that seems to come highly recommended, because it seems like it gets soft enough that it's difficult to expel. Usually the first thing I reach for if it's been about 3 days or more and I can feel that I could go if only things would MOVE!, is Phillips caplets. I tried Ex-lax, but just ended up with an uncomfortable cramping sensation for about 4 days... not doing that again.

    Vision Boards

I am facilitating a vision board workshop this week so I would love to hear about your experiences using this technique related to your weight loss journey. I have been thinking about making one but haven't made it yet. Have you made one? Has it been helpful for you?
  11. Howdy friends I’m 11 days out of sleeve surgery and ever since I left the hospital I have diarrhea, sorry TMI but need help. My doctor said it’s normal but I got like 3-4 times a day and never solid. Has this happened to anyone and please tell me it gets better. Thanks Mark

    A Message from Chancie

Hi all - Chancie asked me to let you all know the following: "I just spent almost 2 hours trying to reply to threads... and only answered probably 4. My computer bit the dust.... and I'm on an old one of my sons ( windows 98 ) and my broad band isn't compatable with it.... I live in the country and all we have is dial up, but I finnally got verizon broad band that was working soooo good!" "Would you let the everyone know that I'm not ignoring the posts... and all the new people.. I'm really amazed at how many there are! Plus working in retail.. the next 2 weeks ( or more ) are gonna be crazy- and I can't spend hours on here tyring to post- ( pisses me off LOL when its soooooo slow ) I FINNALLY found a place that I can relate to, and I love this site- and don't want to feel like I'm ignoring things. Hoping I can find a computer on sale with the holidays coming.... sighhhhhhh when it rains it pours!"

    Day 15 post op

Did your doctor provide guidelines in terms of amount of food? For bypass at first it was no more than 1/4 cup of food at meal times. I could barely get that down. The Water thing is a bigger deal. You will become dehydrated if you don't drink enough and that can cause you to feel like your stomach is hungry when in fact you are dehydrated. I know this sounds strange but in the beginning weeks and months following surgery I literally had to hold the cup or bottle in my hand at all times and just sipped every minute or so until I was able to get to 64oz MINIUMUM per day. I know it sounds insurmountable but it will get better for you.
  14. Thank you for all of your very thoughtful responses. Dub, saying it is a non-issue is reassuring, ty Lip stick Lady, thanks for the "it's not a big deal" Little Bill, guess that is the root of my concern, being very thirsty and not being able to quickly fix the situation with a quick drink but having to take time to fix the problem with little sips, I don't want to be dehydrated. Appears that the solution is just to keep drinking throughout the day to avoid extremes. WLS Resource, you're right - I won't know until I get there but I would like to be prepared, that is why I asked WLS veterans for input. Perhaps my use of the word "afraid" was wrong; perhaps "concerned" would have been better. Please give me more credit - this issue would never prevent me from having the surgery. I have done a lot of preparation for this surgery and do not take it lightly at all. I am two weeks away and Water intake is going to be rough for me, but certainly not a deal breaker. Appreciate all of your experience and thank you for all of your wonderful and honest responses!

    Quenching thirst/drinking fast

@@lacylou The more you heal and the further out you are, the more you can drink. I am 18 months and I can basically chug Water at almost pre-op levels. The time you have to sip and sip slowly is very short. The first 3 months. Then it gets better each month. Don't worry about it, is annoying at first. I was really unhappy thinking I would never be able to chug water again. I can't drink 16 ounces in one breath like I used to it takes 2 now, but I am guessing by the 2 year mark, I will be able to do it in one.
  16. I'm a singer....I'd say you should be fine by the 21st for the gig. After my surgery they gave me this thing to blow in for a week. If you get one...really use it, it helps to get those deep breaths going. If not, just practice breathing deeply everyday. You'll be great in no time!!! Good luck!!!! michele
  17. I'm so excited to finally get things going. Although, now that I got the approval call and actually have a surgery date it's all becoming real. I'm pretty nervous, but I know my future is so much brighter! I'll be able to do some much more with my kids... that's the real motivator for me!
  18. I will be 4 weeks out on Thursday so we are in the same boat. I didn't lose as much pre-op because my doc doesn't do a liquid diet and I can't say that I am a "fast" loser either but I am still thrilled! I've lost a bit over 25lbs since my last pre-op appointment and my weight hasn't been this low in 15 years! I am okay with losing 4 or 5 lbs a month as long as it is steadily moving in the right direction. At that rate I will be at my goal or close to it by the end of the year and I can live with that. I won't be mad if the weight comes off more quickly but I KNOW this is working for me and will continue to. Our bodies will work at their own pace and I just try to keep feeding mine decent stuff so I don't get malnourished. I haven't gone over 2 or 3 days without losing a bit of weight though and I may change my story when I go for 2 or 3 weeks without losing anything!!! :cheer2: Keep the long game in mind...we will get there!!
  19. I am 33 days out... I've stalled for a week and a half.. I've lost 23 lbs since surgery but I couldn't keep the mushys down nothing agreed with my tummy so I stayed on Protein longer. I average over 100g of Protein a day now that he's raised my calorie intake to 800.. now THAT is a chore to get in and I've YET to do it! The trick I've heard is alot of protein, and less than 10g of fat and 30g of carbs and it'll start moving.. me trying to do 800 makes those #'s go up so I've NOT mastered the damn thing yet and it's FRUSTRATING! LOL Hang in there.. the good thing.. it WILL come off... it may just take longer than others and it may go faster than some... just stay focused and do what you're supposed to do and having too much protein I'm told is NOT a bad thing so I suck down protein before I do anything else... and deviled eggs, refried Beans with sour cream & cheese are my two favs.. YUMMY!! Good luck to you all

Anyone scared to eat when newly banded?

Very few banders make it through the first 90 days with no fills. Usually in the first 2 weeks post-op your pouch and stoma site is swollen from all the trauma during surgery so you get the same effect as someone who's had 2-3 fills. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones and not need any fills but the swelling will go down eventually. X your fingers and follow your doctors orders. Re: Stuck episodes. Avoid them, take very small bites, chew chew chew, eat very slowly. Just the basics can help you avoid being stuck, but again, very few people avoid being stuck. It's not that big a deal anyway. In fact, it's a sign in the beginning that your band is working it's magic but you're not obeying the rules. Good luck. tmf

    Frustrated

My referral began in April 2013...classes started in August 2013. I had to take a couple of 8 week courses on nutrition and psychology. A monthly support group. Monthly dr visits. Dietician. My surgery date was May 5th.

    Frustrated

My first appointment was March 18th and my surgery is scheduled June 9th. So, the process has been very fast and gone smoothly without a hitch (knock on wood). I had to see the surgeon 3 times (4 weeks apart), had the pulmonology clearance (already on c-pap so didn't have to do a sleep study -- the doctor just had to write a clearance letter), had a psych eval and had to see a cardiologist for surgery clearance (just did a treadmill test this morning). I also had 3 visits with a nutritionist which were actually really pleasant. So for me, the entire process has taken 83 days. Now, after the surgery, the hard part starts! lol

    holy crap!

I frequent a board and a lady on there WON $20,000 today on a race to a waist compition her in the Salt Lake Valley. She lost 90 pounds in 3 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!! here is what she said copy pasted Well thank you every one. I wish I could say that I ate right and worked out but it is only half true. I worked out every day but Sunday. The other thing I did do a colon cleanse (which I realize has been debated on this board) and juiced vegies. After I did the colonic I ate for Thanksgiving and gained 12 lbs. I realized then that I had rung the proverbial bell and couldn't unring it and went back to juicing. (I hope I didn't loose any one with that one...I just meant I couldn't go back to eating until after the race). As for the winnings there will be a need for surgery but that will be a year from now. I need to finish loosing (180 is my goal) and my body needs to see what is going to bounce back. I have a feeling my b**bs never will and my stomach will need a little help as well. wow! Just WOW! jen

    Hormonal driven lows/depression?

I have a similar situation - while I am only 7 weeks out, my period has completely stopped. I am 50 years old, but was not pre-menopausal prior to WLS. In addition, I have PMS-like symptoms pretty regularly (moodiness, fatigue, irritability). Unfortunately I forgot to ask my doctor about this at my last appointment (but I would not have forgotten if it was a good day). I have heard others say that our fat stores estrogen, other hormones and toxins. I don't know what the science is around this. But just in my experience of being on this journey - my stamina is not what it was prior to WLS, I am moodier and tend to have more times when I am just unhappy/angry/frustrated/sad for no reason at all. The flipside, is I feel much better physically, am more active, my skin is clearer and none of my clothes fit me :-)
