    chugging water

I am scheduled for surgery in February 2019, and drinking water is one of my biggest post-op concerns. I drink a LOT of water, and I can't imagine taking tiny sips all day long. I'm glad to hear that it might be possible to drink like a normal person during maintenance. And how does it work if you are doing something or going somewhere that makes it impossible to drink for a few hours?

So @Mysterious Gal, your surgery was supposed to be 11/01/18. Did you have it on time or were there still things to postpone it?

    Southern Sleevers

Depending on your take on geography I could be considered from the south or the Midwest. I’ve always considered my state to have more characteristics of the south than the Midwest, so I’ll answer this. I started out at 489. It is hard for me to type that because I can’t believe I let myself get that bad. I was sleeved on May 10 of this year and I have lost 188lbs. I am currently 301 lbs. My goal at the start was 300 but I think I am going to amend that to 270. I have a little more fat around my abdomen I could stand to lose. 270 is still large for most men but with my frame — 6’6” and built like the college defensive lineman I was in my youth — I carry 270 fairly well. Heck, I carry 301 well. Most people that see me now think I am 240 or 250 because I do not “look like a 300 lb man.” I am. Still. For at least a little bit. 2 lbs away from the 200’s!

    Calories

Hey Everyone, My question is around calories, I understand the difference between "Good" and "bad" calories, I'm now trying to maintain my weight and build some muscle, I'm 7 months PO and my weight is still going down which is a little worrying. I'm consuming between 1000-1200 calories a day and doing weight training 4-5 times a week with 10-15 minutes of running on the treadmill as a warm up. I've been trying in incorporate Nuts, Seeds, Legumes, Protein, Avocado etc into my diet as its more caloric dense healthy foods however I cant seem to get past that 100-1200 calories a day 100-150 grams of weight per meal. I was looking up online about how many Calories I would need to consume daily to maintain my weight which is sitting around 2000 calories and that is a Sedentary lifestyle, being active I would say "Active lifestyle" its saying I should be consuming 2941 Calories !!! how is this possible! I would like to hear from patients 1+ years out which had a similar issue with continual weight loss and how they managed to maintain weight, Did you need to consume that many calories? Did you continue to exercise or did you reduce activity? Will your body just stop losing when its comfortable? Thanks in advance!
  6. Hi, My conversion surgery was Feburary 19, 2018. I have lost 55 lbs and is happy with my slow weight lost. My diet is ok most of the time. My problem is not drinking water. Measuring Food

I find its much easier and more accurate to used a food scale. I'm 7 months PO and normally measure out between 120 grams - 150 grams of food per meal; however, In saying that it depends on the density of the food I can eat more of some foods than others. 99% of the time I'm lucky to be able to get through 100 grams (3.5 ounces). This morning I had 1/4 cup of oats (over night oats) with 10 grams of peanut butter 1 strawberry and 10 grams of blueberries and was able to finish it, however i had the same yesterday and could only finish half. Whatever I'm doing it must be working! I've lost 154 pounds in 7 months! As my dietitian says everyday your restriction will be different, its important not to focus on what others can eat over what you can eat plus if your not throwing up or getting pain it means your not over eating.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

DANGIT. I missed the "official" weigh-in, but I weighed myself yesterday and was at 234lbs. By February 1, I hope to be 224lbs. Because that's the next "milestone" in Baritastic and I just hit the milestone 1 of 234lbs yesterday! Goals for 2019 include reaching my weight goal of 140lbs. Or coming darn close. I also plan to start walking on my lunch breaks after my gallbladder surgery in 3 weeks. I also want to use my home gym a minimum of 3 times per week. Really, just get my exercise level up immensely. January goals are simply trying to get to 50oz of water a day. It's been a real struggle for me. I know I eventually need much more, but 50 is A LOT for me right now. Since I am on primarily liquids until post-gallbladder, I am not as concerned with protein yet. Water is my biggest concern right now.

    Jan 2019 bypass buddies

Hi All, one day later..I am home. Admittedly in a little pain, but tolerable. Check in wa 6 am yesterday, surgery at 8: 15 to recovery by 10 in room by 2. The heating pad was for the back ache caused by the surgery table, to control pain, and help dispel gas. I highly recommend it. They wouldn't let me use mine even tho' surgeon recommended it but room put in an order for it had it by 6pm. Was up and walking by 7. Worst experience was nausea from the sickly sweet Tylenol, gabepetin, hydrocortisone liquid after surgery meds. Sipped water by time got to room, but they would not allow ice chips. I had such a dry mouth still do. Walked again at midnight, and at 5 am. My potassium IV was hell, it burned so badly. I was grumpy with nurses - apologized. : \ My 8 am walk was a breeze but I still had surgery gas to dispel. You can tell bc your shoulder might hurt. Was packed and ready to go by 11. Had a wait at hospital pharmacy for oxycotin...BUT now home, climbed the fifteen steps to 2nd foot easily, but honestly my gut is sore. Started the protein in room, did not want to stay down but now doing fine. They did say to expect pain. I have minor soreness. That's all. Thanks for all well wishes, on phone do can't quote ppl. Y'all will be fine. I'm the biggest wimp in world, so you can do it!! Sent from my VS988 using BariatricPal mobile app

  16. No clue what my actual weight is as usual, but I'm roaming with teens in tow. Apparently I walk too much, too far, too fast (my reply - too bad) I think I did a 14/10 yesterday but I wasn't really watching the clock too hard.

    Weight Loss Meds???

No idea about the meds, but I would be finding out how much weight you are expected to lose over the next five months and workout if its doable by 'diet'. If you are expect to lose 10% of your body weight for instance, that's 23lbs (going by your current weight) = approx 5lb per month, which initally isn't too onerous...more you have to lose the more you likely lose initially but as time progresses (and there is no more fluid weight to lose) weight loss will slow down. To keep weight loss on track you can expect that they will want you to possibly do meal shake replacements and go fairly low carb.dea about the meds, but I would be finding out how much weight you are expected to lose over the next five months and workout if its doable by 'diet'. I am assuming you are pre-op as you don't have a date, but you have lost a good amount of weight already, and there have been a couple of instances here (or perhaps on the facegroup I am on) where people lost significant weight pre-op and their BMI reduced below the threshold and insurance was denied. I would definitley be finding out how much weight loss expectative over the next five months.

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Late is better than never! I took the picture on the 1st so I can compare at the end of the year! 2) My January Goal is to get into the 180's, I'm currently 194.2 so I'm hoping for at least a 5 lbs loss this month. 3) 2019 goals is to hike a new and moderate to hard trail every week, so 52 total. Also to run a 5K. I use to run them before I gained all my weight back, so I want to smash my old times Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Hi, everyone! I posted this in the veterans forum, but I thought y'all might really benefit from hearing/reading this, too. Today (1/3/19) is my 14 year surgi-versary, and I wanted to Celebrate by sharing the gift of knowledge with anyone who may be a few steps behind me. 1. Be kind to yourself. This journey is long and hard and most definitely bumpy - but it's yours to do with as you see fit. Don't settle, but don't beat yourself up for a misstep. We did that for too long before surgery, k? 2. Be strong. You are your own best advocate. You know your body, and you know when something is not right. Push for answers. Assert yourself. Fight for what you need. 3. Be vulnerable. Cry, scream, punch pillows - do whatever works and won't get you in trouble, hurt or arrested. Be emotional. Keeping those feelings stuck deep inside is what lead many of us to overeating. Don't give feelings back that power. 4. Be open. Ask for help. Seek help. It may feel weird and strange and icky, I know. But take care of yourself. Self-care isn't selfish. It's totally selfLESS. We can't do anything for people that need us if we fall apart, so flip the script and practice recognizing self-care as the greatest gift you can give others. 5. Be grateful. Every day. Even for something small. Each time we wake up, it's a reminder that we get another opportunity to make a change in ourselves and the world. And above all else... BE YOU.
