Gone for Good Club - August 2006

Congrats all, have a great weekend, P'nut and Dawg... the Dawgster will be fine! For an NSV, I'm gonna go clothes shopping this weekend. I'm down to a Large shirt (from xxxl), and 36 pants (from 58), so I need some NEW CLOTHES! I'm getting pretty close to goal, and doubt my shirt size will decrease, and may at most go down one more pants size, so this time I can buy some REAL clothes, not discount stuff to keep the price low during transition. Wish me luck, shopping at REGULAR stores... no more big men's shops for me! BTW, isn't Mo doing great without a band! Heck, she'd be doing great if she had one too, but it takes a lot extra without, and she is setting an example for all of us banded folks... it is all about discipline and hard work!

My NSV! Yesterday I wore blue jeans, size 18 that actually buttoned and zipped, instead of those comfy elastic waist pants I've been in. I felt so great!!!

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all. I haven't been on in a couple of days. I too just ate a little bit of what I wanted and a sliver of pumpkin pie. It was way less than I usually eat on the holiday. Tess I hope you feel better and Harley you too. You both had some great NSV's. Harley I love the dress and you only paid what???? I had 3 pairs of pants in the closet that I bought at a sale 4 years ago and never got to wear them cause the weight was going up and now they fit perfectly. Ah such a good feeling. Have a good weekend everyone.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Lisa - I'm sorry to read about your landlord freaking out over your dog. I had a landlord that made me give away a kitten once. It was heartbreaking but I did find him a good home. Unlike you, I didn't have a leg to stand on. My lease clearly stated NO PETS. OF course what could I do when I walked out of work and he was there motherless and mewing by my car? I stooped down and held out my hand and he waddled right onto my palm. Hell I was hooked. I left work and went straight to the store to pick up everything he would need. He was content to sit in my purse while I shopped and had the good sense (or the empty tummy) not to poop or pee in my purse. Anyway... I love animals. If my baby wasn't allergic to cats and dogs I'd have one of each. I may still get a cat - she's been asking for one. Fight for your baby boy Lisa. Get the vet to write a note and get it notarized. See if you can get any neighbors to write letters stating that your dog has not been any trouble, and I am with Busy - the burden of proof lies with the landlord. If they want to use the pit rule, then they need to prove that your dog is a pit - fat chance of that happening. Hang in there. Now on to me... The last time I weighed myself was yesterday morning, before that it had been a week or so. Anyway, yesterday morning the scale said that I had gained close to 4 lbs. I was ok with that because it’s that time of the month (sorry Fenton). I have crap restriction. I really do, until you consider the fact that pre band I could damn near eat a large pizza by myself. Pre band I could eat a five piece chicken dinner from Popeyes by myself and still make room for at least one more piece (if only it were in the box). So I can eat more than a cup of food. At least I don’t eat all day. I don’t do the four or five little meals. I just don’t have that kind of schedule. I am looking forward to my first fill. I’m praying that my doctor will be aggressive. If I have to take a half day off from work, drive 2.5 hours there and back (in HEAVY rush hour traffic) I want more than a .5 cc fill! I want a 3 cc fill maybe even a 4 cc fill!!! Ok – I know that’s wishful thinking. But I have a 14cc band. Putting a .5 cc fill in that is like giving a Tic Tac to a whale. But I have to wait until May 12th for that so there’s no need in me stressing myself out over it until then. Trust me that day will be plenty stressful because I not only have to convince my doctor to load me up with saline, but in addition, I HATE NEEDLES! If I were a diabetic, I’d be in serious trouble. So while I wait for my fill day to arrive, I will stay off the scale and enjoy celebrating my NSVs – like the one I am celebrating today… I am currently wearing a pair of jeans that I have not been able to wear for over two years. Yippee Ky F-ing YEA!!!! Now that deserves a Happy Dance – cue the music…

Once again, the Shamrocks have come through for me! I can't tell you how much you guys have helped me:) I wish I could have read all of your encouragement and support yesterday before I went to class and work.. It was a bad day for me, and I'm so glad it's over! I don't have bad days often, but when I do, the sh*t hits the fan:( On a better note, I decided to let the whole thing go.. It's a petty situation that IS NOT going to bring me down. To each is own, and if my sister is bothered by my having WLS, I hope she can talk to me about it like an adult, or just plain old get over it.. I am an easy person to talk with, and she knows that- She's always calling for my support, and I will continue to give it. Maybe sometime she can find it in herself to return the favor. Anyhoooo.. Enough with that and on to my second NSV!! My wedding rings almost fell off last night while folding laundry. I literally caught them as they were coming off the tip of my finger! They have been loose for some time, but I didn't think I was in any danger of them coming off?! I brought them to the jeweler this morning, was sized, and my rings went from a size 8.5, to a size7! yay! What a strange NSV lol.. Also I wanted to share that I am super excited to have my bike permit now! It is something I have wanted to do it for a long time, and finally got the courage to do it. I was raised around motorcycles my whole life, and can't wait to be riding on my own. Thanks to my Dad, I'll be riding on a 95 Sportster, until he sells it from under me. Literally. lol Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend~ Kerri

Ok Fenton, I will re-weigh on Friday. :cursing: I think I will be ok, because I had to be on liquids for 2 more days. NSV- I went into Nordstrom's last night and I tried on a slamming dress. It was blue saphire in color and in a size 16. I can not remember when I was that size. I was bigger than that in high school. I did not buy the dress because it was $188.00 and I could not justify buying a dress that would be too big in a couple of months. But it sure felt awesome to fit into a dress like that. March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hey Shamrocks! I hope everyone is doing great! I had a seminar this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Long, but exciting. Funny thing about the sweet spot. When I started this journey, I thought once you got to the sweet spot, life woul be good. I sort of think that I am there. The scale has started moving again. I am like many of you. Sometimes, I can't eat solid food. I can eat pureed type foods like cream of wheat or oatmeal, but not an egg. Other times (like last night) I can eat a piece of pizza. I think some of it has to do with taking my time and eating small bites. It is quite possible that the weather affects us. If you think about storms, the barometric pressure changes. I would imagine it also affects our bodies. The band, being a foreign object, could be influenced by this. It makes sense. I am excited.....I am currently about 4 pounds from having less than 100 pounds to loose. That is a milestone for me! Today I had a NSV. Someone I had not seen in a few weeks told me to get some new jeans, mine were too loose and ready to fall down. Now, she was exaggerating a bit. (no way were they actually going to fall down) It sure was nice to hear that. Well, have a wonderful Monday everyone!

I don't have to LIE anymore!

Great post! And congratulations! When I moved to WA, I decided to be more "honest" and only fudged my weight by 50lbs (300) the lady at the counter said "oh honey, no one ever tells the truth on their DL, we'll put 250". When I got under the 300 mark I was thrilled to weigh less than my DL, then I looked at it and remembered that the lady "adjusted" it for me. She got 50lbs worth of cursing for my missed NSV :-). Happy to say I have now surpassed that number by 10lbs and can officially say I weigh less than my DL claims!!! Yay!

    Marchies Bandiversary Month

Great NSV Husker! Kinda like when I get out of the swimming pool and the inside of my thighs don't stick together anymore! ...LOL Please, don't try and picture it!
  13. Hi FLORIDAYS... I was banded on 12/3 and went in for my first fill this past Wednesday. On my pre-op visit on 11/20 I weighed 269. By 12/3 on Surgery day I was 258. When I went in for my fill I was 243. 2 days later I weighed in today at 241. My doctor was very pleased with my progress so far. I was a little disheartened that he didn't want to give me a fill because I am losing at a good pace. But he was very encouraging and really made me feel like I am doing well without the fill. So far I haven't gotten sick at all and am having no problems with any foods. I am not having any heartburn or nausea. The doctor said that if he acts too aggresively and gives me a fill he is afraid that I will start having some of those problems. He said that he felt that I would just be back next week asking him to take it out. But he did say that when I return next month he thought I would be ready for a fill. But even still...only a little. I had alot of mixed feelings at first. I was kinda excited about getting the fill...I guess just ready to move on to the next phase and possibly loose more. But by the time I left the Doctor's office I felt good about it. The doctor was so very encouraging and really acted enthusiatic about my achievement so far. The recommended weight loss by Allergan - the makers of the band - is 2.0 - 2.5 pounds per week. Since 11/20 I have lost a total of 28 pounds. I had lost 10 pounds in the previous month. For a total of 38 pounds lost since October. I am estatic! I had a great NSV victory this week. All of my clothes are getting pretty baggy. I went to get just one outfit to reward myself. I had to go down 2 sizes in both my jeans and sweater. After I got home and tried it on for my husband and kids their remarks nearly brought me to happy tears. My daughter said that it was hard to tell just how much I had lost because my clothes were so big. My sons were like "Wow mom - you look so much smaller". And my husband was VERY encouraging! I hope and pray that I can continue on this well. And I wish the best of luck everyone else too. We are all on this journey together!
  14. Happy Anniversay Vicky! Congrats on the NSVs! Jess I saw your post about onderland on another thread. Good job! Doesn't it feel great?!?

    The Gone for Good Club

Hi! Not too much to report but after the last fill on Monday - should see something soon. With 8.25 in there and only a small mini straw size opening into my pouch, I think I'm finally at my sweet spot. 229 (-1) 2 great NSV's though - down 8% body fat from surgery date so the doctor said technically I've lost more than 49 pounds (of FAT) and actually gained almost 20 pounds in muscle. They increased my goal weight by 25 pounds but I'm not changing what my mind says it should be. Oh, and the other one - my cholesterol is down from 330 (yeah, I know terrible) to 189 in 1 year!! My good cholesterol is way up and the bad is down even further. Plus my blood pressure was 112 over 75. Even though I didn't lose the 100 pounds I was hoping for since I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary last Saturday - I'm at least much, much healthier! Onto next week - here I come 50 pounds gone!!!

    The Gone for Good Club

Good grief, that's wonderful progress! Good for you! Don't be too hard on yourself and expect to jump from point A to point Z in one leap. The journey is a long one with a lot of blessings (NSVs - non scale victories) along the way. You're taking excellent steps in the right direction to regain control of your life and your health, and I'm very excited for you!

How much weight have you lost?????

WELL SAID Foofy!! I finally made it to the 50 lb mark and I am ecstatic:success1:.. however, the last 5 lbs took over a month to come off.. I was banded 9/26/07 and lost 15 pre-op. I definitely noticed some stalled weeks, even though my eating was the same, and I was exercising. However, I did notice the inches coming off... Went from a 24/26 jean to an 18/20! Woohoo.. a 3X shirt to 1X, and I even have a couple size 16 shirts. NSV definitely get you through the stalled scale syndrome. Everyone's body will loose weight/inches on a different timeline, and it's whatever works for you. Brenda
  18. @@Womanvsmirror and @@cat.jackson89 I would recommend measuring yourself too. The best NSV is when I can put on smaller clothing. When I stall for a week or two the inches are usually dropping when the scale hasn't moved.
  19. It's so nice to hear from those who have not checked in for awhile. Dottie, I put away my 2000 piece puzzle not too long ago. It was just too hard to do alone. Sandy, welcome and feel free to jump in the thread anytime you want. I guess I had what qualifies as an NSV today at work. A man came right out and told me "You are a very attractive woman." " In fact, you are HOT!" I thanked him. It did make my day. He was totally flirting with me!
  20. Christie, great news about ditching the BP meds!!! and bummer about the cherries. I just popped on to share a NSV I forgot too. I can now shop at Vickey's!!!! (that's Victoria's Secret) When I was in Denver the other day I had some time to kill so I walked around a mall. Every other time I have walked in a Victoria's Secret there is nothing that would fit me. Well, this time I walked over to a clearence rack and there hung the most beautiful pair of silk pajamas (mauve & cream stripes) with my name on them! They aren't even the biggest size they have! 50% off and they even have the Vickey's logo ......lol. This is the first thing I have ever worn with the VS on it.

    Any Non Scale Victories?

I love NSV posts! 1. I fit comfortably in an airplane seat. Belt buckles AND I can tighten it! I can keep my arms comfortably at my sides without intruding into other people's space. I can put the tray table down and it comes nowhere close to my belly. This has been such an amazing change for me-- flying is no longer filled with shame. 2. I can sit in seats in public venues without 1) worrying that I will break that rickety chair, or 2) have bruises on my thighs from squeezing in, or 3) rubbing body parts with the person squeezed next to me. 3. I can close a normal-sized towel around me without showing any of my goodies. 4. I can wear cute shoes! I had plantar fasciitis before and could only wear Crocs for about 6 months before surgery-- even then, just walking around in my house gave me pretty bad foot pain. That went away very early in the weight loss process and now I can wear heels again. 5. I no longer avoid my reflection. I'm not vain or anything, but when I pass a mirror, I'll actually look. 6. I am able to exercise, though I should do it more. Yoga and Zumba are currently my faves. 7. I am down from a tight 3x in tops to a size L, and from a 22 in pants to a 12 (and I have two pairs of 10's that fit now too). 8. I can wear my wedding ring again. In fact, it's getting too loose. 9. My driver's license has me 70lbs HIGHER than my actual weight. I have to renew it this summer anyway, so I've just been putting it off. In fact, I'm a little worried about my passport-- I just got it last year and I don't want to pay for another one just because I look SO different. Anyone have any experience with this? I know I'll need it 2x in the next year to travel to the Dominican Republic, and then Asia. I could go on, but I have to get ready for work!
  22. Hope you all don't mind my posting something that might not fall under a "success story" or "NSV"... but I just can't help but want to share! I have been with my significant other, Mike, for nearly a year now. He is the most wonderful man, and we've talked about getting married some time in the near future. The other night, Mike, and I took his four young boys on a Polar Express train. I don't know if you all are familiar with the story, but it's one of my favorites. They have an old train near Flagstaff, AZ, that you can take. All the children wear their pj's and bathrobes and they serve hot cocoa and Cookies. Well, as we're chugging along, Santa makes his way down the train giving the children sleigh bells. After he passes us, we have the four boys curled on our laps and Mike brings out a tiny box and says Santa left this for me. He opens the box and says "My dearest Sara, will you marry me?" I asked each boy what I should say and they yelled "YES!". So... I'm officially engaged! And the thought of wearing a wedding dress and not being embarrassed by my weight or pictures is just icing on the cake!
  23. NSV! had to share. I have not lost a pound in awhile, but must still taking off some inches. My size medium scrubs are very baggy now! Last week I went and bought a pair of jeans. St. Johns Bay brand size 12. They fit really nice. I wore them last weekend and every time I passes the mirror I was shocked at how thin they made me look. Yesterday after I pulled them out of the dryer I was sure they shrank up so much I would never be able to wear them. I held them up and they looked so tiny. I was thinking, "oh crap, I can't return them after I already washed them. I thought they were 'rinsed' and would not shrink." Well, I decided to try them on and see just how much they shrank. OMG! They zipped up and fit perfect! My brain just still needs to catch up.
  24. Hi Everyone! Happy Friday to all!!! Yay. Great on the NSVs! I love those! Michael, WELCOME!!! Raiders..BOO  I was in stuck city this week. Drat. Got stuck 3 times! Was in a hurry at lunch the other day with all my managers. I was facilitating a meeting for them, and we were running short of time at lunch. So, I was of course, trying to unwisely cram in the last few bites. It came back to bite me in the butt! So, I did the urp into a public toilet, did not have the time to drop the a$$-gasket into the Water first, and you guessed it, splash into the EYE!! WAH!!!! At least none of the managers was a witness to the event or even aware that I was stuck for that matter, so I am thankful for that! But I did get to go to Palm Springs for the meeting for a few days, that was fun, and had some good bonding time in the evenings with them. Except now there is photo evidence of me doing Karaoke to Tequila Sunrise...OY! Ok, I can sing fairly well, but Karaoke isn't easy, and that song sucks! But it was fun. Karen can probably attest to the fact that it takes MUCHO practice to sing a song, not just stand up and read the words, even if you know the tune. Well, I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!
