  1. You should be talking to your doctor/nutritionist smita. But lana is spot on..... for the first 2-3 weeks, you will need all the nutrition you can get and it may be hard to get it in. So focus on the protein and water. You won't be able to consume many calories anyway! GOOD LUCK!!!
  2. Hi, how did it go? I am having this procedure this week.
  3. Hi there, I ended up having it at the end of March so i'm only a few months out now. It was different than i expected. The procedure itself was quite easy and I had a quick recovery. I was more affected by the lack of energy the first week or so because of so little food than the procedure itself so a positive reaction. I've lost about 8kg in total - much less than i was expecting as i'm sure you can imagine. I was expecting it to similar to the gastric sleeve in terms of restriction etc but i have found i am able to eat much larger quantities than i expected - not so much as to be super full but not as small as the gastric sleeve by any means. I have also found the hunger pains are more like stomach cramping - which i can deal with - but it is a different sensation for sure. For me, i think my expectations were about that of the sleeve which it is not. I also didn't feel as though i had much support from my doctor as he was new at doing this procedure. I would have liked to speak with other people who had had the procedure for example or hear from their experiences. That being said, i do have some restriction in quantity compared to before. When i eat with other people, there is no way they can tell - i just get fuller a bit quicker - i eat about 75% of what i did before. In other words it's less but not a lot less. I have also felt more cramping when i eat meat or chicken so i am opting for more vegetarian choices - not a big deal but perhaps worth mentioning. I also don't get cramping with things like bread which is of course more carbohydrate than meat or proteins which is not ideal - it is just softer on my stomach to digest. If asked i would do it again and i heard that it is only supposed to last 2 years so i would do it again in 2 years (with another doctor and hopefully at a lower price). If you have any other questions, i would be happy to answer! Best of luck to you!
  4. I am about 5 months out and over the last few weeks been experiencing hiccups after I eat. Anyone else Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    2 month check-in

I was sleeved exactly 1 month after you and started at 232 and I'm down 20, I think I will be slow too, but I'm determined to blow through some Protein this week and kick this but in gear!
  6. I am 5-weeks Post-op today and I really haven't lost but about 5lbs, I am watching what I eat and my calorie intake. I go back August 17th for my first fill and so afraid they will be upset with me not losing anymore than I have. I did start exercising about 2-weeks ago, going to the gym 4x per week. Is this normal not to lose a whole lot of weight until you get a fill? I have no problem eating just about anything, but do notice I can't eat as much as I used too.
  7. My doctor has me weigh daily. He says if I go 5 days without losing 1 pound, I am to go into time-out. That means I am to go on 3 shakes a day and no food until I lose 2 pounds. Sounds harsh but it is supposed to help with a plateau. If that doesn't work it might be I need a fill or rethink what I'm eating.
  8. I have been struggling too. i went 2 months without losing anything. then i stuck to the diet for 2 weeks and lost 5 lbs. in two weeks. fortunately and unfortunately i started a new job--great that i started working--bad for the diet. I get to eat for free in the cafeteria where i work, only problem is there are FEW healthy choices. and i find myself eating things i shouldnt eat. its not so much the quantity that i am having trouble with--its the quality. i work from 6a-6p, so its really hard for me to get motivated to get up early to pack a healthy Breakfast and lunch especially since the food is free. i think its a good idea to start the shakes if you havent lost weight in a week--i havent tried it yet. i think i will try it this week. thanks for the idea. good luck with getting a fill!!!
  9. Wow 20 lbs! My doctor gave me a limit of 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks. I would call your doctor since you are having new pain. They may be able to just ease your mind
  10. Hi: The most important thing about post tummy tuck is making sure that you've got enough nutrition to heal well. So, don't be concerned about 1,000 calories a day. Be happy to maintain. I had tummy tuck with muscle repair, but my port stayed where it was (top of tummy - just under middle of rib cage). I think I got refilled at either 3 or 4 weeks after tummy tuck. By then it was not too uncomfortable to get into the proper position for a fill in that area. You'll be surprised at how numb some areas are after the initial healing time. So, it may not be that uncomfortable. They'll probably fill you gradually because that's the most safe way to approach fills. Best wishes. Can't wait to see pictures or hear your comments. You're gonna love your flat tummy! Sue

    Low grade temp day 3

Hi all. Running a low grade temp of 99.5 (by ear). Face is red and warm. Hospital told me to call if i run a temp 100.5 or higher. Should I call my doc anyway or just keep an eye on it?
  12. Has anyone flown after surgery? I’ll be attending a wedding 2 and a half weeks after surgery and wanted to know if anyone has any tips. Thanks!

    Stomach flu - in agony

Hi everyone sorry I don't post very often but I need some urgent advice. I'm 16 months out and over the weekend I came down with horrendous diarrhoea, hot and cold sweats and the chills. I thought it would go away and have hardly eaten anything in 3 days but it's got worse and worse and now I can barely move and have to get to the bathroom every half hour or so and it's just water coming out now. But I have horrible stomach cramps and feel wretched also constantly thirsty. I'm seeing my GP this morning but I just know they won't understand the surgery I've had and why having this problem is scary when you only have 15% of your stomach. I would be grateful for any advice please, and now I'm not even making it to the bathroom in time ????
  15. Hi All, I Will be six weeks out tomorrow and have been doing well. I did have a UTI last week (I am prone to them) and was treated by my PCP with a five day course of antibiotics. I was feeling better until today...I felt nauseous all day. I did have a small piece of filet mignon last night (2 ounces) and chewed it well and than had two Apple slices afterwards. I'm wondering if I feel this way due to the food or the UTI or maybe even a stomach virus that seems to be going around. I was just wondering if Anyone else have trouble with these foods at this stage? Thanks.
  16. I am only 1 week post op but I have lost 9 lbs since surgery and a total of 32 lbs since starting the liquid diet. I guess it just varies from person to person. I did get the plication with the band so I hope to lose weight at a more rapid pace.

    Required weight loss.. concerned

I know where you are coming from with having to lose weight before your surgery. I thought the same thing you did. If I haven't been able to successfully lose weight myself for the past 25 years, what makes now any different? The difference is that you really aren't dieting this time. You are making a total lifestyle change that you will need to follow from now on. I lost about 12 pounds in 3 months with my doctor supervised diet and that was before I made any diet changes that I will follow from now on. I met my surgeon after my 3 month supervised diet and he gave me some tips and so did the NUT. I was told to cut out all soda and sweetened beverages. Also no carbonated drinks. Increase my water or non caloric beverage intake to at least 64 oz a day. Try to cut as much sugar intake as I could and lower my carb intake too. Doing all of that made a huge difference for me and I lost some weight as I changed over. Finally, I started walking everyday. I just walked around my neighborhood and worked my way up to 4 miles a day-2 miles in the morning and 2 in the evening. Walking made a huge difference and it is important to your healing process after surgery. I decreased my pain immensely by getting up and walking as much as possible after the surgery. And lastly, I tried out my liquid diet about 2 months prior to my surgery date. I did it for 2 weeks and lost 18 pounds prior to surgery. You can do this! This is a life changing experience and is so worth it. Good luck to you! [emoji3]

    workout question

I started running about 3 weeks after surgery, if I remember right. Albeit, a slow run, lol, since I needed to get into shape. I was however, walking, immediately. The day after surgery I was out walking around and getting moving. I was paranoid to do any ab work for a long long time. This irrational fear, more than likely, that my port was going to pop out. I don't think I did sit ups or crunches for a good 5-6 months after surgery.
  19. NO you will not be able to drive yourself home, you'll still be on pain meds. My stay was 2 days with no complications. BTW I'm almost 3 weeks post op. I'm so sorry you don't have support from your family & friends! I joined this site about 4 days ago & I've seen the love everyone gives to one another so I think you have come to the right place! What I can say is, if you have made your mind up please don't let transportation stop you!! Take a taxi!! Heck if your in my city Concord NC or close by I'll be more than happy to drive you there and pick you up!!

    No "Steve Harvey" this time..

@Dmjohr thank you! I was having a hard time believing that it would happen, but boy am I grateful! No date yet. I will have to finish out my 6 month "wait" which started from the time I first inquired about my benefits. So that puts me at having an April date. I would have preferred March but this will do no complaints from me! I will post my date as soon as I get it! I go see Dr. Nguyen again next week so I should receive a date then
  22. I am 3 weeks post op. Everything has been going well for the most part. Ever since the day after surgery, I have had mild back pain but tonight at work I had the worst pain I have ever had. I am experiencing pain in the middle of my back and also in my chest. I do not have my gall bladder, had it removed many years ago. The pain in my chest is like almost like I am short of breath at times. I am just wondering what this could be. I wonder if between the hospital bed and my own bed if I could have thrown something out in my back and just need an adjustment by my chiropractor or if it could be something more. If it is something as simple as needing an adjustment, how soon after surgery would you recommend going to the chiropractor. I just don't want anything to happen to my stitches or incisions.
  23. I don't know what to recommend but here's my story: I was about 6 weeks out and the weather was bitterly cold and I just wanted to warm my innards up. I took half a cup of decaf with a little non dairy creamer and a packet of sweetener. It felt good but tasted like crap after the first couple of sips - seems like all my food hits me that way, good for a few bites and BLAH the rest. I drank maybe half the half cup and poured the rest out. Did this 3 days in a row, Seems to be no ill effects other than burping up coffee stink in my breath YECH!
  24. Thanks to everyone for your advice and sharing your experiences! My surgeon has me on Prilosec for the next 3 months and I'm still on clear liquids until Friday..then I move onto thick protein shakes and soups. So maybe my new stomach is just a pain in the ass.
