    Bad gas pains 😩🥺

January 19 it’s about a month and a few days for. I weighed 304 and now 270 although I’m not sure if that is good but I haven’t been eating much I find it easier to have soup, protein shake and water. So far chicken and tuna I can’t hold down everything just comes back up. These gas pains just came out of no where last night and I am still in pain.

    Got my band yesterday

Yes, Karen, I meant the lap incisions. I had my gall bladder out lap about 10 years ago and those scars cleared up nice, I am sure these will too. Patty

    Should I do VSG?

The only thing I'd be concerned about is that 50 lbs is not much to lose. I'd ask the surgeon to give you at least a 40f so you will have a better shot at being able to stop the weightloss after you hit50-60 lbs lost. If he gives you a 32, it might be a lot harder to stop the weightloss when you want to. That's just my opinion, and some people say bougie size has very little to do with it, but mine's a 40 and I've lost a lot of weight, never thrown up, never had problems with any food, etc. I love that I'm able to eat anything, just a lot less of it. I'm almost 5 months out and losing steadily. A good example of what I can eat is what I ate yesterday. 1/2 cup of oatmeal with 7 cashews and 10 frozen blueberries 2 string cheese 1/3 of a mango 2 ozs of rice/vermicelli/scrambled eggs/chicken breast 1/4 cup of greek yogurt 1/2 cup of endive/mashedpotatoes/bacon/nutmeg/vinegar mush with 1 cheese souffle (Admittedly this meal took me about an hour to eat but I knew I needed to try to get dinner in because I have a kidney infection so I had been sipping white beer and cranberry juice all day. Man it's hard to drink beer after VSG.) Then before bed I had 5 saltines with light gouda cheese. I thought after all that I'd show a gain on the scale (the beer and cranberry juice alone was 700 calories) but I actually lost another 2 lbs. I dunno, maybe bougie size doesn't matter that much, but I know I can eat enough healthy food with a 40f whereas some people I've read that have a 32 can't get in much more than 1/4-1/2 cup of food at a time. If I only had 50 lbs to lose, I'd be scared it wouldn't stop. I have a few friends that are 20-30 lbs below goal and try very hard to gain weight. We're all different, so it's hard to say, but I do know that a 40 allows me to get in proper nutrition (my 4/5 month bloodwork was excellent!) and still lose weight. Additionally, if for some reason a 40 is too big and you have trouble maintaining, you can have additional surgery to convert to a bypass or switch, but if you get a 32 and can't stop losing, what can you do? Nothing except get used to weighing 110 lbs. Just my opinion. I do think the sleeve is an AMAZING tool, but for someone who has only 50 lbs to lose, it's a risk that your body might get down way below goal before it matures/heals enough to allow you to stop.

    Concerned about Energy and Complications

I just turned 56. Had surgery 8/23/16 at 55. I'm down 99.5 pounds and was hobbling toward knee replacement . I had no complications after surgery. I was back at work less than a week after (I'm a desk jockey and only go into the office 2x week work from home other days). Fear is OK. But, don't let it derail you. What can I do now? I fence 4-5 hours a week, do TRX, walk, run, jump all without narcotics, which I needed before for my knee pain. Last year, Memorial Day, went with daughter 1 to University of Pittsburgh for a tour and had to quit the tour half way through (she completed it) because walking hurt too much. This year, just a few weeks ago at orientation, I didn't move the car from the hotel for the three days we were there and walked 5-7 miles daily with no adverse effects. In fact, worked out in the fitness center both nights. Think about what you will be able to do. My orthopedic surgeon is stunned by the improvement in my knees - I still don't have cartilage in places (that won't change) but I think I'll be able to put off replacement for 10 years. Before, i was hoping to make it to 59. In part, I had the VSG so I could do my knees - he didn't want to do my knees until my BMI was under 40. You've got this.

    P.C.O.S and Metformin (glucophage)

I've noticed that there are TONS of people on metformin. My endo had me on that, too, and I couldn't be more than 10 feet from a toilet! No matter the doseage, it TORE me up. He decided to put me on Avandia , which is much less harsh on the system, and I am a happy camper! So, from personal experience, and I have metformin a good chance- 3 months, talk to your doc about Avandia. It is also a very tiny pill, compared to metformin, and it goes down very easy. I don't even have to take water with it, it's so small. I take one in the am and one in the pm. As far as results, I can't really compare the two. I was on metformin before the band and Avandia like two weeks before surgery. It has made a world of difference for me, maybe it will for you! Amy
  7. Has my surgery yesterday at 12:30 in Concord, NC. I feel pretty good right now. Moderate pain just above my belly button. Unfortunately they just weighed me and I was up 10 lbs from yesterday right before surgery. I know this is a lot of water weight, leg compression pads, etc.....but still. Walked some last night and it felt pretty good. The biggest pain is not being allowed to drink anything yet. My mouth is so dry and pasty. They did give me some mouth swabs so I can swab with a little water. All in all, so far so good! Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers!
  8. I was going to post this to the nutrition forum and then it asked pre or post op. I figure this applies to all areas so I posted under general discussion I am always looking for protein recipes and on the biprousa.com website I found several different cookbooks that are free to print. I thought it would mention in case you are exploring protein recipes too. Banded 10/12/16
  9. I will be having gastric bypass on July 3. I started my program in Feb 2019, but have battled weight issues my whole life. I am excited and anxious about my upcoming date. I cannot imagine weighing less than I do now. At 42 years old, I've been morbidly obese my entire adult life and obese my entire life. So many thoughts run through my head about this surgery, but I tell myself to take it one baby step at a time. My program only requires 2 days liquid diet, so I don't even start that til July 1. Would love to keep in contact with you and our other July siblings [emoji16] Good luck to all of us! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

filled 14 days ago and still have trouble

I had my second fill 10 ago. I've come to the realization that if I don't chew each bite at least 30 times......I'll suffer badly. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I hate to think of what goes on inside me once that chest pain starts....I think of things stretching, ripping, moving, slipping, eroding.......and that shakes me back to reality and makes me eat so verrryyy slowly that I grow bored with the food! <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Its amazing how little I eat.....I often get discouraged by my food having turned cold<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Most of all I am terrified at each instant I swallow too soon by mistake (or because of bad old habits). When I know the bite is too big, or not chewed well enough, I just know that I’m hurting myself and I’m multiplying my chances of failure with this band.
  11. I just finished week 6 workout 2 which was 2 10 min runs. not too bad. Tuesday is going to be the 25min run. Found my mp3 in the cushion in my car (thank goodness). Now whats a good mp3 download site?

    Getting Banded Monday 1/9/2012!

I just got banded on 01/13/12. So far the only issue I've had is gas pain. I also think I've done too much too soon. I'm already back and work, and I think that was kind of a mistake. Today I feel better than I have, yesterday was bad. Surgery was a breeze.

    Sleeved this morning!

Day 7 post-op and omg! I'm so dang hungry. I just chewed on a small piece of fajita chicken then spit it out before I could swallow it! Now having a cup of chicken broth. Can't believe that I have 7 more days of this. Can't have soft food until my follow up with the doctor. Good news? I'm down 10 pounds since pre-surgery.
  14. I reached a 50 pound weight loss. I am so proud. It is the little things that make me smile like - I can zip my coat, stomach not touching the steering wheel LOL, pants fitting loose and now having to wear a belt etc. I am loving this sleeve!!!

    The mystery of the band

As my banding day approaches I wonder: 1. Will I lose hair or will I not lose hair 2. Will I be one of those that can still eat rice (aka sushi) or not 3. Will I PB and slime all the time, or not 4. Will I be succesful with this band, or get it removed in a year if it just doesn't work for me 5. Will I be one of those that can eat lettuce or one that can't 6. Will I have to cut chicken completely out of my diet like some do, or can I still eat my favorite meat 7. Will my scars keloid like some do, or heal up nicely 8. Will I have this huge panus hanging down to my knee caps, or will I be one of the lucky few who has elastic skin. 9. Will my port area get infected like some, or heal up nicely? 10. Will I be able to sleep on my tummy if I want to, or will the port drive me nuts. 11. Will I get worse acid reflux than I already have now? 12. Will I lose my boobs??? ugggg And the questions go on. All of these questions come to mind and it's so scary.... It's like we are playing black jack or some other weird dice game and nobody is guaranteed anything... and it's all just a big mystery until you are done and go through it.. I hate mystery's... I hate not knowing... Everybody is different and there is no telling until we actually go through with it.. The not knowing is steadily making me go crazy...
  16. Today was my first day of orintation for the lap band, I was told it is required to do 24 weeks of weekly visits to a prep class prior to surgery. Also, they require that you loose 10% of your body weight before surgery as well. My class will begin 9/3/08 and we have the option of doing the opifast diet during this time. Has anyone else had to go through something similar to get the surgery? I did not know the process was sooo long.

  19. I am bi-polar. Up until surgery I have been stable for almost 4 years. I was taking Welbutrin XR 450 mg am, xanax 1 mg 3 x a day and Seroquel 300 at bed. They never told me before surgery that I would not be able to use the Welbutrin XR any more. They have me on regular Welbutrin 400 mg am. (Can not take them later in the day, they keep me awake) I am snappy, anxious, depressed. I now have been isolating myself. Back to not wanting to do anything. Crying/sobbing moments at least 3x a day. I feel out of control. I am afraid they will try to put me back on an ssri, because that helped the weight gain and the loss of my depth perception. Plus the last one gave me horrible side effects and hallucinations. I cant see psych med until the first week of Feb. I see my counselor tomorrow. Anyone have/had these issues? Going to see Oprah!!!

I am from the southwest burbs and it is still pretty cold in Chicago in feb. Last year we had an ice storm on my b-day (feb 8th) The average is in the upper 30's but it will feel cooler downtown as you are closer to the lakefront. Here are the averages for Chicago http://weather.yahoo.com/climo/USIL0225_f.html You can also get a 10 day forecast right before you leave from here. We have a saying in Chicago, if you don't like the weather, stand still it will change really soon. We had a beautiful day on Friday, light jackets and I actually wore capris, then yesterday were got like 4.5 inches of snow. Come prepared for rain, ice and upper 30's to lower 40's. I would like to suggest a place for lunch or dinner the day of the taping. Right across the street is a place called Flat Top Grill, it is really cool, you make your own stir-fry or soup and they cook it to your liking. They have a web-site www.flattopgrill.com The food is really good, they have let me eat at the child's price before and it is all you can eat for everyone else. If you don't like what you have made, try something else no problem. Let me know if there is anything else you are looking to do, maybe I can give you some pointers. ~Mandy

    Diabetes and Lap Band

Not all diabetes meds promote weight gain. What are you taking? I had the same experience. I was able to cut out my insulin and most of my oral meds during the pre-op liquid diet and for the first few weeks post-op. But when you start eating again, your blood sugar is going to go up. I noticed a big drop in the amount of insulin I needed after I lost 10% of my body weight. My endocrinologist says there's a big difference when you drop 20% of your body weight too. I know it's hard, but be patient. Your blood sugar will come around.

    starting to get cold feet

My surgery is Monday as well. I had my pre-admit appointment at the hospital today but I'm not getting cold feet. I am so ready for this to happen. I'm tired of being fat. Tired of having to pay extra money for larger size clothing, shoes and jewelry. Tired of not being able to cross my legs. Tired of not being able to buckle the seat belt on the plane. Tired of hurting when I bend over to tie my shoes. I am tired of the lack of sleep I get due to snoring/sleep apnea. Im tired of being tired. With the upcoming weight loss... I am going to feel better, I am going to exercise, and I'm going to feel good about my self again. Yep... I'm ready for Monday and no cold feet for me. I've had about 10 surgeries in my life and came through all of them with no problems. I don't anticipate having any problems with this one either. I have selected an excellent facility and an excellent surgeon. I got this one.

    Feeling Bad

I didn't feel better until day 8. Much to my dismay, I missed a week of work, but I'm on day 10 now and I feel like I've turned the corner. I do, however, get that same urge to burp and it feels stuck. I figured it'll find its way out eventually, all the others did.
  25. Reading your story makes me feel bad for you. I went with another Mexico surgeon and had a really great surgery experience. I feel bad that people are made to wait all day to get in to surgery. I was sleeved about 10:30 Am and I was # 3 for him that morning. The less expensive surgeons must be so busy that they tend to forget about each individual person in their care. I am glad that you are doing well and that everything went well in your actual surgery.
