    Fail.

Wow, a few days short of a month and you're still on liquids? At 10 days, I was advanced to mushy food and 10 days after that to solids. I think a conversation with your doc is in order. You need to at least be moved to mushy food NOW and find out when solids come in. And, BTW, mushy food is a huge step because you can puree almost anything, LOL, so even if it isn't really mushy to start with you can make it be.

Haven't had a period in 4 months.. Help!

Sounds like you are in the same boat as me. The doctor said that after you have lapband surgery. Many people start to have regular cycles. NOT me. My cycle is so irregular it's not funny. I will go without having it for a month. To having it every 2 weeks. My last one didn't stop for 10 days. It went from light to heavy instead of the other way around. I also went for blood work and a pap and everything is 'normal'. So I guess it's just about the weightloss. Weird thing is when I was heavy, my cycle was normal. Go figure. Of course I am 43 so I could be going through the change now. My mom was early in life.

  4. I got the "Plicated" Band on 7-26-11. I had a flipped port and had to have a port reassignment surgery on 10-10-11. I just finally got my first true fill on 11-15-11. I had a flouro fill and the PA seemed confident in the amount of fluid 6 total ccs in a large band. I have lost 65 lbs since my surgery date, however, I do not feel the restriction I thought I would feel after having a fill. I have chugged water trying to fill my pouch and have been unsuccessful. I am chewing more but have forgotten and swallowed things I expected to be too large to fit through the opening. I am full a little quicker, however, that full feeling does not last more than an hour or two. Am I expecting too much? Is what I am feeling normal? and my weight loss is it on par with the average? I should also add that I can eat anything at all. I hear that others have a really hard time with bread, I have not had any problem at all. I don't eat much bread because it hinders weight loss but I had to try it because I had heard so often that lapband patients cannot tollerate bread.

  6. Hello everyone: My name is Rydell. I am 20 years old and from Pennsylvania. My entire life I've been struggling with my weight. I'm 5' 9" tall. My current weight is 290 pounds but my highest was 311 pounds. It'd be up, down, then wayyyy back up. Dieting for months and months wasn't successful. Meeting with dietitians and sticking to a 1600 calorie intake wasn't successful. The gym 6 days a week was successful for only a short time, then it all bounced right back on. I finally broke down talked to my family doc ably some weight loss pills..his response was, "what about surgery?" I was scared at first. But it was that very moment that I decided it was time to start the journey that would take me through the rest of my life. After doing a required 6 month weigh in program through my insurance, my surgery date is right around the corner. February 10th yall. I am doing my 2 week pre-op diet and I'm struggling. Any ideas on that? Was anyone only required to do one week liquid diet prior to surgery? Any one around my age experience sagging skin that doesn't bounce back? Any advice welcomed on any topic of the gastric bypass!!!! Just no crude criticism. ❤️ Thank you all, Rydell
  7. I'm officially one week out today and, to be honest, I've had a speedy, textbook recovery. After staying overnight in the hospital, I was discharged and came home to sleep. I stayed on pain and anti-nausea meds regularly until Day 3 post-op simply to make my recovery easy (I chose to stop taking them then; there are still plenty of pills left). Over the past week I've been pretty self-reliant - I've been drinking fluids, Protein shakes, etc. and just sleeping and taking it easy. I haven't really been in much pain (I was shocked!) and have had no problem getting in and out of my recliner and bed. I walk around my 2-story house fairly easily, albeit slowly, and was well enough for a Target shopping trip for necessities on Day 4. My only limitation, really, has been lifting - I'm not to lift over 10 pounds (doc's orders). As such, I haven't been doing that because I don't want to harm anything in my stomach/abdomen. I'm eager to return to work on Monday, although I'm still sleepy! Taking it easy and drinking water/protein has been my job this week and, in all honesty, has been the best thing I could have done for myself. As a note, I have no kids and my 2 kitty cats have been very loving this week . My other trips this week have been to the doctor's for a post-op visit on Day 6 followed by a quick grocery shopping trip, and a trip to the vet with my kitties today (while I had time off!) - my boyfriend carried my kitties for me in their carriers. I'll be heading to a friend's retirement party tomorrow night and looking at houses on Sunday (we're moving later this summer). I know I'll be tired, but hydration and protein are the key! As for work next week, I anticipate early bedtimes .

Step Away From The Box - will I ever learn

What is it about carbs? I know I need them, but it is a fine line beween need and NEED! My tooth broke two weeks ago and I had to get a crown, back molar. Turns out I had a huge cavity that didn't show on the X-Ray and the tooth just gave way. I am lucky, they say, it didn't break down the middle. I am not a "good" patient, I sweat, almost jump out of my skin. I HATE THE DENTIST. In the middle of my "fix" the novacaine quit working, turns out I am hypersensative. Dentist numbed me again, almost my entire face was numb and my tounge didnt' work properly. I had warning to be careful, it might be sensative, and don't mess with the temp crown. For that much money, even with insurance, I hope it was made of gold! And after, well I put the liquid vicodine to good use! So now two weeks later, I find I was eating mush and lots of cereal. Went back Saturday and he took the temp crown off. I was still embarrased from two weeks ago, so I didn't ask to be numbed up. The Dentist asked how I felt, and I told him it was a little sensative. He poked around a bit and then blew air onto the tooth. OH MY GOD - you would have though he was drilling. The pain was so bad. I took in a huge breath cried out and started sweating. The pain was throbing and I was wishing I could run away. I didn't move or breathe hoping air not moving over the tooth would make it better. IT DIDN'T!!! IT HURT LIKE HELL! So more numbing crap, another numb face, but not as bad and he was able to finish. Went home and hit the VICODINE again. My face throbbed, my tooth hurt and it HURT. AFter the numbing was gone, I went straight to my comfort. CARBS - I ate a box of cereal yesterday. A whole fricking box. Now I didn't eat it all at once, but nibbled the rest of the day. I woke up this am, swollen and retaining water. I felt like hell and I knew what it was, that fricken cereal. My tooth felt better, but I had a Carb Hangover. Then I stepped on the scale. A week of self pitty had taken it's toll. The scale moved up a couple pounds. My worse nightmare. :wink2: Well today I put a stop to the self pitty. I made a protien drink with Rice Milk, Egg White (did you know it was pasterized), Coco Powder (for baking) and Truvea - artificial sweetner. Now I found out, there is such a thing as too much Coco Powder, so I shall cut back next time, but all in all it wan't too bad. I will not allow myself to go back. I will not do this to myself again! Want to know the difference this time? It was only a couple pounds - not 10, 20 or 50. 2 or 3 and the breaks get set. More exercise and no more snacking on cereal. It wasn't the band that stopped me. It was me, Maybe I am learning after all. I maybe a "slow" learner, but it is definately registering. Maybe I need a fill too, you know a little top off, but maybe the ghosts of the past are really in the past, where they belong. So next time, STEP AWAY FROM THE CEREAL box, maybe I'll have some turkey instead. :cool2:

    When Do Things Change..

sitting here just over 2 years out from surgery and wondering when do things truly change???? ( on the Inside) Dont get me wrong i love my band im sitting at 124 pounds lost and i work out 5 days a week. my first year with the band was deffinetly a learning experiense i lost 60 pounds i could have lost more had i listend to my body, now that i understand what im doing im averaging 8-10 pounds a month. I dont look at my self and see a diffrence everybody says omg you look fantastic, and others say i dident recoginize you, but i dont feel diffrent, ive went from 320 pounds to my current 196, from a size 24 to current 14. But inside im still me struggling to figure out who i am and what i want out of life, losing weight dosent fix your problems, you dont magically wake up and your weight is gone and your happy. You need to make those changes for your self, and figure out what makes you happy, i know im not near where i need to be, but one day at a time, and hopefully along the way ill start to feel better about my self!!! well enough with debbie downer lol happy friday everybody!!
  10. So we are officially 1 week post op. How are ya'll doing? I am pretty darn good, and going to work tomorrow for the first time since surg. Still am having a little feeling of stomach swelling from time to time, but overall way less sore. Lost 13 # on my less than 2 week high protein, low carb diet and have lost 3 more since the day of surgery. I'm happy about that, still on full liquid diet, I think for 1 more week. Good luck to you all and I wish you a speedy recovery and great success.

    Dizziness

My surgeon told me that I'm not hydrated enough. I was drinking 8 glasses a day but he said my body may need more and that our needs change. I bumped it up to 10 glasses for a while and felt better.

    Scary Skinny

I am down 50 pds since January - 35 since surgery 07/19.. A girl at work asked me if I had been sick, like with cancer. I nearly fell out. One girl told me loosing weight a lot of times makes you look older, then followed it with you sure lost a lot. I told her yes fat people make pretty corpse. Haters going to hate....
  14. I am so glad to see this posting. I have actually gained back 25 lbs over the last 10 months or so. It's my fault because I have taken up "grazing" at night. Not a good thing. I also got back into cake decorating & I love frosting. I think I finally got this back under control in the last few days. I'm starting over with the liquid diet then soft foods. I don't think I've stretched my stomach because I don't eat much each time. The grazing is my big enemy. I stopped using my Bariactric Pal & stopped logging in my food. I'm trying to get back in that habit again. I have no one to blame but myself & I need to work harder on me. I live alone so I can't blame it on anyone else. But, one day at a time. I would still do the surgery again. Good luck everyone. Onward & downward!!

    Vegatables

I was cleared for anything at 5 weeks. Not everything set well the first time I tried it and my doctor said if that happend to try again later. So far the only thing I really don't eat well is oranges. My doctor says the no drinking is to not take up space you need for solid food so I would think that the soup broth is as nutritious as the solids so I do eat soups. I have had no problem losing the weight either. Only 19 lbs to goal! yay

    Just Had A "good" Cry

My pre-op diet was three weeks and it felt like an eternity! I won't pretend I was moody and miserable on my pre-op diet, but it really is such a small time to suffer. I am 3 months post-op this week and down 60 pounds (10 of that being pre-op.) It is 100% worth it. I would have surgery again tomorrow if I had too. I feel like a new woman!

    Feet shrunk!

Hello I think this is really weird/funny. I went shopping the other day, and decided to try on some sandals. Before my surgery I wore 10 WW shoes. Now I am in a 9 regular shoe. I understand the width part as you lose weight. But how can your feet get shorter? LOL
  19. I love a good reason to sleep more, but as a south Georgia resident, I'm not turning off the air conditioning. NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - "Super-sized" fast food meals and TV time shouldn't take all the blame for the U.S. obesity problem, according to a research review published Tuesday. <SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a == null) document.write("<scr" + "ipt type=text/javascript src=""http://us.js2.yimg.com/us.js.yimg.com/lib/bc/bc_1.7.3.js></scr" + "ipt>");</SCRIPT><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a){yzq_a('p', 'P=uwQlus6.I3oMK09aRKFaWRAYRNwytkSjvdYAB5Ny&T=17b35a3bh%2fX%3d1151581654%2fE%3d7666449%2fR%3dnews%2fK%3d5%2fV%3d1.1%2fW%3d8%2fY%3dYAHOO%2fF%3d4293078391%2fH%3dY2FjaGVoaW50PSJuZXdzIiBjb250ZW50PSJkaWV0O0hlYWx0aDtJdDtjaGlsZHJlbjt3ZWF0aGVyO2l0OyIgcmVmdXJsPSIiIHRvcGljcz0iIg--%2fS%3d1%2fJ%3d4723BECE');yzq_a('a', '&U=139fb8112%2fN%3dMt0BB86.Isc-%2fC%3d378029.7424007.9670348.1442997%2fD%3dLREC%2fB%3d3800058');}</SCRIPT><NOSCRIPT></NOSCRIPT> In fact, a group of researchers contend, a number of aspects of modern living -- from lack of sleep to exposure to environmental chemicals to living with air conditioning -- may be feeding Americans' weight woes. Writing in the International Journal of Obesity, they argue that obesity research and prevention efforts need to look beyond the "Big Two" -- food industry practices, like beefed-up portion sizes and added sugar; and reduced physical activity from factors such as cuts in school gym classes. That's not to say that diet and exercise aren't important, said report co-author Dr. David B. Allison of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. However, he told Reuters Health, the evidence linking obesity to food industry marketing and lack of gym class is circumstantial. It's equally plausible that a range of other factors are also involved, Allison and his colleagues point out. Lack of sleep is one, they say. Research in animals and humans suggests that chronic sleep deprivation boosts appetite and eating, and studies also show that U.S. adults and children are sleeping less than they used to. In recent decades, adults have gone from sleeping for an average of 9 hours to about 7 hours, the researchers point out. There is also evidence that industrial chemicals that act as endocrine disruptors may increase body fat. These chemicals, which are used in products such as pesticides and plastics, alter hormonal activity when they get into the body. Studies suggest that people have been increasingly exposed to these chemicals through the food chain in recent decades. Another factor potentially weighing Americans down is air conditioning. The body burns calories when forced to regulate its own temperature and, Allison noted, people tend to eat less in hot, humid weather. He and his colleagues cite 10 potential obesity risk factors in all, including: increased rates of older mothers, whose children may be more prone to excess weight gain; a range of medications, such as antidepressants, which can promote weight gain; and a decrease in smoking rates, because people often gain weight when they quit and the absence of nicotine, an appetite suppressant. No one is suggesting that people should stop taking their prescriptions, keep smoking or swelter in the July sun, according to Allison. When it comes to any one person's weight, he said, "what ultimately matters is calorie intake and calorie expenditure." That means diet and exercise is still key. But, Allison argued, researchers and policymakers should be "open-minded" about the potential contributors to the obesity problem and not assume that the answer lies in simple fixes like ridding schools of vending machines or installing sidewalks in the suburbs to encourage walking. SOURCE: International Journal of Obesity, June 27, 2006 online.

What To Do What To Do???

I have had good success with my band but lap band is not for every one and I have had several co-workers who have not done as well and one even had what they are calling band failure. She did not tolerate the band well and the restriction, she had her band removed after 2 years and had the gastric sleeve 2 months ago and has done very well. Typically you do not lose weight as fast with lap band and some seem to lose faster than others. The one thing you really need to focus on is, are you ready for WLS. The surgery itself which ever one you have only gives you a tool and the tool is only as good as it is used. It does make your stomach smaller, or as with lap band it gives you restriction, but what it does not fix is how we think and relate to food. That is the hardest part of the journey, developing healthy habits and truly making a life style change. If you are a bulk eater than you will do with WLS because it will limit how much you eat at meals, if you are a grazer and like to nibble on things off and on through out the day, you will struggle no matter what surgery you have. I strongly urge anyone thinking about WLS to have physiological screening and be totally honest with all your issues and continue with a few sessions for the first 6 months after surgery. Another key for success to support, family and friends can either support or sabotage you, make sure you have their total support. Your life does change after WLS and for me it has been a positive change. I am almost 2 years out with my LB and am 5 lbs from my goal weight. I have changed my life style, I eat healthy, I exercise, I weigh and measure everything I eat, I log my food everyday, I drink my water and get all my protein in. This has been a journey but for me well worth it. When you have your appointment with your MD, I suggest you discuss all your options, be honest about your commitment, how you eat and how much support you have. My husband went with me through every pre surgery visit and seminar. I wanted him to understand everything I was going to experience. For the most part he has been my rock but he also has went through some turmoil. He now has a tiny wife and I had been over weight and they past 10 years morbidly obese. WLS puts strain on relationships if you allow it because you both change and you must be honest with each other along the way. Good luck to you and I hope I haven't scared you off. But I want you to be prepared for all the emotions and obstacles you will have to over come in this journey. Good luck, Diane
