the NEW you and OLD Drivers Licenses?

A friend of mine who had GBP had this happen to her. She went from 257 to 145 and was denied access to a club b/c the bouncer said it wasn't her ID. She said she asked him if he really thought that she would use a "fat girl's" ID to try and get in if it really wasn't her. She said he told her congratualtions on the weight loss and that she looked really hot, but that she still couldn't get in. She wasn't happy! She really does look like two totally different people when you compare her old DL to her new one...I hope I have the same success!!

    What's the norm

I'm just over 6 months out, down from 217 to 142, that's a total of 75 lbs. I started out great, then also slowed down until I learned that my body needed nutrition. I was so afraid to eat anything, I was literally eating nothing and my body was none to pleased about it. Once I figured out how to eat a balanced meal that was focused on Protein I did much better. Not getting your protein is going to force your body into a "starvation" type of state. You need to figure out how to get it in, it's takes time and a lot of work, but the result will be two fold. You'll start dropping the weight at a good rate and your body will reward you by feeling so much better once it gets what it needs to function correctly. You need to make nice with food, don't be afraid of it - respect it. For the record, I try to get in around 1000 to 1200 calories a day, that's my "magic" number to keep by body happy and functioning smoothly. Good luck

What Am I Supposed To Eat?

Every nutrition plan is different. My pureed foods list also included canned tuna and chicken, soft cheeses, etc. I also didn't have to actually puree a lot of the foods as long as I chewed thoroughly and kept things moist enough. I would ask your nutritionist if there is a recommended foods list for each stage. Here is the link to the website where my surgeon/nutritionist's office posted their food lists: http://www.mybrandnewlife.org/patient-stories-and-support/bariatric-dietitians-guide-to-successful-weight-loss/
  4. Im right there with you. Had a minor procedure last week and gained 5 pounds. Lost 2 by the weekend then participated in a 7 hour taekwondo boot camp, and gained the 2 pounds back again. I think my body freaked out and thought it needed to protect itself. Now waiting for my body to return to normal and decide its ok to let go of the fluids its held on to!

My story, 1 week pre op

Hi! My name is Felicia. I am 45, going to be 46 on May 2nd. I have 2 beautiful daughters, ages 23 & 29 and 2 grandsons, ages 2 & 5. I am married to a wonderful husband and we will be renewing our vows on our 10 year wedding anniversary June 25th of this year! I live with multiple chronic illnesses and multiple sclerosis. I've survived cancer twice! I'm very blessed to be alive. My family consists of mostly obese people and a lot of the health conditions that go along with obesity. I am determined to NOT be obese. I lost my mother (12/19/2012) at age 69 to colon cancer, diabetes, heart disease and a bunch of other health conditions that were related to obesity. I see what my children are going through missing there grandmother. She was my best friend and I was her sole caregiver 24/7 for the last 4 years of her life. I do not want to do that to my children or grandchildren. I am determined to lose weight the right way, get healthy, stay healthy and BE HERE for my family. The loss of my mother is hard on all of us and may have been preventable if she had not smoked, stopped smoking and taken better care of herself. Although, I suffer every day with pain, fatigue and multiple symptoms from my illnesses and disease...I am detemined to live! I've had 38 surgeries, 50 epidurals for lower lumbar back pain, 3 spinal surgeries, H1Ni, viral menengitis, a terrible car accident that left me with a brain injury, migraines, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, etc. I could go on. My heaviest weight has been 255lbs at 5'7. I started my weight loss journey at 232. I've tried all of the diets and fads....they didn't work for me. It's hard for me to get regular exercise in due to my health conditions BUT...I can walk, thank God! So, I walk. I do what I can when I can, which makes it hard to get and keep the weeight off. I started my weight loss journey in February of this year at 232lbs and am currently at 216lbs. My VSG surgery is on May 4th, 2 days after my birthday (my gift to myself) and I need to be at 212lbs by then. I've been on a full liquid diet for a week...and the weight JUST ISN'T COMING OFF!!!! Any suggestions? I am drinking 3-5 prepared protein shakes daily, along with all of my vitamins and minerals suggested by my doctor and 64-90 oz. of water daily. Thanks in advance for any help.

    So Frustrated!!!!

Well I'm on solid foods now - but even when I was on mushy food - I tried to keep my calories on track. I orginally was at less then 1,000 calories but then I read many posts and thought maybe I was in starvation mode and that's why my body wasn't letting loose of the weight. What calorie intake do you think I should be at?

HAHAAHAHAHAH!!! you are cracking me up..and i KNOW what you meannnnn!!!!!!! Banded June 9, 2005 Dr. Avera Starting weight..276..right now..270 and fighting pneumonia:(
  14. I think its important not to obsess. The weight will come off - throw away the scales (or at least hide them). I only understand metrics.. but here is the deal with fluids .... FACT ... 1 litre of Water weighs 1 kgs. To translate to measurements understood in america.. 4 cups of water = 2.2 lbs. Other fluids may weigh more than water. 3600 calories needs to be used to lose 1 pound. A lot of initial weight loss is glycogen stores leaving your liver - if you don't have a large store, you won't have that inital weight loss.
  15. Just hang in there. And remember now is the time to let your body heal, not lose weight. Focus on getting your vitamins and protein in and put the scale away. I know its hard, but just wait, it will come off.
  16. I am just doing this next week but the instructions I have received say you may or may not lose any weight through the clear, full, purred stage until you get to regular food or after your fill. I think your body is going through some real changes.
  17. Why an unfill opposed to a maintenance fill. Have them take a little out to give you more liberty w/ food choices, but not an open chute to risk gaining weight.

    Somethings never change...

Don't let pessimestic responses from people that are not educated in these procedure cause self-doubt. Everyone is different and everyone's experience is different. A reason I didn't choose the gastric by-pass because of the rapid weight loss and your stomach can expand over the years causing your weight to return, if you don't keep up the healthy eating and exercise. Enjoy you success and shake off that remark from that hater. Best wishes and Take care.

My surgeon was Dr. Srikanth, from the same clinic . He is a very kind and gently doctor. I also found Dr. Fox a bit of a salesman. Dr. Fox is no longer doing surgery. His son and Dr. Srikanth are. My father has been only overweight to Obese 1 his whole life. Even though his BMI has never qualified him as morbidly obese. He has serious health issues. Heart, Diabetes type 2, multiple joint replacements. I am only 36 and I couldn't go skiing with my kids kayaking or water skiing... My BMI was only 36 but I already have some degeneration of my knee joint. As I watch my father deteriorate at a relatively young age, I self-paid for this operation as I only had 1 co-morbidity. I really appreciate the strict structure of Dr. Fox's diet...I am using this time to get my head together about my problems with food while am losing weight. I know myself well enough that if I didn't have this follow-up structure I wouldn't succeed at this time....As I have serious food issues when I was in high school I was anerexic weighing 110 at 5'6"and now I use food by over eating. I am just done with using food for my emotional expression. His office also recommended counseling so that when I am done losing my head will be in the right place for keeping it off. I personally not only need this band but also extensive follow-up that I am getting. And at age 36 I have to honestly admit I want to look good I want to go shopping with my 4 teenage girls NOT just take them to the mall and drop them off while I go to Lane Bryant. I can't wait to get rid of that credit card!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Never to late to "reboot" I just past six years banded and from a low of 190 in 2009 made my way back up to 250 last Christmas. Most of the time that I was gaining I was too tight so slider foods and lots of ice cream shakes were the norm. "Recommitted" myself on 1/1/13. Have re-lost about 45 lbs this year. The band has done its job at meal time my main problem was eating after 9:00 pm. So I need to make sure I go to bed before 9:00. Which means I get up earlier between 4 & 5 in the morning so I use this time to either walk or do resistance band training. I also have had to limit the number of bad choices to the bare minimum. Such as putting extra butter on butter popcorn. Instead of eating the biggest snickers bar I can fine I settle for a little bite size snicker and take tiny bites and let the favor linger in my mouth as long as I can. I have also increased my Water intake. "For me" making more good choices than bad choices seems to work.
  21. Hi I have so many questions after my 1st consultant & would love to no if anyone experience this: 1st seems like I will be all over the city trying to get all these requirements meet ( I thought it was something they do in the office). 2nd I was given a packet (wellness program that is require) which cost $730.00 + $285.00 for (wellness consult) $300.00 for the Optifast Pre surgical liquid diet Program not to mention the vitamins Milti-Vitamin, Calcium citrate chewables, sublingual b12 $86.00 (this is for post op) Has anyone experience this ? Did you have to pay for your classes or were they included? FYI- I have to wait 6 months so basically it looks as I am paying for the 6 month supervised medical weight lost program

Gained a bunch of weight back

hi, i know the feeling...i lost 30 pounds the month after my daughter was born, and then gained it back and then some the four months after that! I also moved to another state, and between the stress of neew baby and moving my entire life, I chose food to cope, threw all my wisdom of proper band management ou the window, an cheated myself back into compulsive eating. That was a month ago. I just got so sick of feeling out of control again, eating all the time. I got myself this gazelle machine, and once i was exercising again, I didn't want to screw up my hard work during the day by stuffing at night. And I really was dumb, eating little bits, drinking water to get them down, not being able to eat something, puking and moving on, trying again. Really out of control behavior. Now that I am "sober" I see that I was never eating out of hunger. I have my total weak moments at night (it was my "stuffing" time) but I just think of myself as an ex-junkie, and that kind of behavior as a drug, I'd do anything, go through any amount of mental distress, not to "use" again. I'm worth it an my family is too! An example, like a moron I was working on my grocery list at my most weak time last night, and I started getting really hungry, so I put it down and went to read, and then had this total panic attack that my daughter was not breathing in her crib, so I checked on her, and she was fine! Then I went into living room and told my husband I was having a panic attack and talked to him about it. I felt better within a half an hour, and suddenly had this great insight into my twisted brain. (Not so long ago, that panic attack would have been followed by a huge binge) my sneaky brain hunger couldn't entice me into compulsive eating, so it tried to scare me into it! (I know it's not my entire brain, but the sick part). Perhaps this isn't your situation, but I am finding great success in knowing why i eat. My hunger is so small and I do great when i use band correctly, but it is a battle. I got back up, so I'm oing pretty damn good. As far as weight loss, i'll get there, i know it.
  23. I was eating some meat last night and I did not chew it enough and ate too fast. I had my first stuck episode. I did not think it was possible since I haven't had my first fill yet. But boy did it hurt. Water did not push it down, it only hurt more. Then I finally threw it up. I learned my lesson the hard way. I'm getting my first fill in 2 weeks. From what I have read here it may take 3 or 4 to get restriction. In the meantime it's all about will power. I've lost 20 lbs since my pre op diet and surgery but I haven't lost anymore weight in the last 2-3 weeks. I heard that is normal also. I can't wait to get restriction.

    Saggy Skin after banding

I was curious...I am 28 yrs 5'5 and 215 old and have been athletic my whole life. I am over weight by about 80 pounds but still have really good muscle definition. I have had one child via c-section with minimal stretch marks...I am worried about possible saggy skin...My legs are really tight and muscular, I am not a flabby person, but I am curious if anyone who works out with cardio and weights 4-5 days a week like me has been banded and is tone and muscular with no saggy skin. My stomach is what I really worry about...I dont have rolls standing just sitting... Any advise?
