October surgery friends??
Meganator replied to LyricalWarfare's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Checking in! Howdy! This month has been alright. Met with my PCP the day after my 3 month follow up with my surgeon. Everyone is pleased with my progress and I'm on the right track. My menu has been opened up to "normal" foods for the last month, but I've yet to come across foods that don't agree with me (just have to have food or a shake before vitamins or else ugh). I've definitely lost more than I've ever lost on any previous weight loss program (max was always 35lbs) and every day I'm amazed at how I've adapted to making this a true lifestyle change. With prior programs, there was always that moment I could just get off track and stay there. With this, I am linked to my surgeon's office through Baritastic (so they have access to my food logs) which adds an extra layer of accountability. I'm also self-pay, so I have a lot of skin in the game riding on this. I'm on a pretty regimented schedule for intake because I can only do 4-6oz of stuff at a time and that stuff is usually something that is going to help me meet my daily goals. As I get closer to 250, which is about my lowest weight as an adult, I can't help but be a little nervous... like "What if I get stuck there and can't push past it?" Ridiculous thoughts, but still acknowledging they're there. I've found my area's support groups to be a major help. It really helps with getting my headspace in check and thinking about things from different perspectives. I've also seen performance increases in my gym. I've been regularly working out (5-6 days a week) since being cleared for it and at Orangetheory this past month for both benchmarks, I PR'd. On the 200m row, I went from 40.65 seconds to 40.1 seconds. On the 1 mile benchmark (3 miles on strider for me), I went from 7:39 to 7:14 shaving a total of 25 seconds off my time. Things feel easier in a smaller body than I had before. Anyway, that's a long post, but this is the month where I'm finally feeling that "It's finally happening," feeling. -
Pretty much what everyone else has said. Often in the first few weeks you aren't getting nearly enough nutrients to fuel your body as it recovers. I found once I could get in adequate calories (600-800) and all my fluids (64-80oz) I felt MUCH better and had lots of energy.

"You look great - You're wasting away..." - Dammit I have 10lbs to lose....
MandoGetsSleeved replied to MandoGetsSleeved's topic in Rants & Raves
@Esimaintaining it forever is definitely a concern - Actually one of the reasons I want to get this last 10 in. I keep hearing about the bounce back of 10 or so lbs and want to ensure I stay in a happy zone with my weight. I'm pretty neurotic about weighing quite often (at least 4-5 times per week) and if I'm up 1-2 lbs I make sure I get back to the basics (not crash dieting,) by making sure I get in the fluids first - That keeps me fully and less snacky. @ 5lbs I start freaking out and typically do go back to real basics (tracking and measuring everything I put in my mouth). This usually happens after a vacation when I just throw caution to the wind! -
Everyone is different, but for me, I felt differences at 1 week, 2 weeks, and then pretty normal at 4 weeks. The fatigue was intense the first month (I took daily afternoon naps) but after that I really felt great.

Reward Yourself for Consistency
AnotherGuy replied to GradyCat's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This is an excellent idea. I believe you and me are cut from a similar cloth. I enjoy your posts. 😁 I also find that I do better when I have an accountability partner. For instance, someone who agrees to do five days of cardio per week. We do not need to do the activity together, but we hold each other accountable for getting the work done. Later, we celebrate together. -
I had the same thing two weeks ago, ended up in ER with Appendicitis and emergency surgery. Of course, with the upper back pain, I had vomiting it was so bad. I had an 8mm stone blockage in my duct.

My sw was 280… I’m a little over 9 months out and I’m down 101lbs. At 3 months out, I was down around 45lbs. I’ve had a few stalls here and there but I couldn’t be happier. Remember - it’s a staircase, not a slope.

Sorry to hear about your grandma — that must be rough. I wouldn’t worry about 2 pounds; my weight often fluctuates more than that in a single day. By now, you’ve most likely developed healthy habits and as long as you don’t stray too far from that path, going a week (or a few weeks) without tracking should not derail your weight loss.

My starting weight was 252, surgery weight was 236, today I am 212. I will be 6 weeks on Tuesday. I dont see much movement on the scale the last week or so however I can see other changes in my body.

Beer craving
catwoman7 replied to Elder_Millennial's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
not only is it acidic, it's carbonated. Not a good choice at less than a month out. You're still healing. Plus transfer addiction is unfortunately a real thing - some people develop issues with alcohol after bariatric surgery. So I'd be careful. we were told to wait a year after surgery to indulge - some people are told six months. Some may not have to wait as long, but 3.5 weeks is way too early. -
My grandma is In hospice so we are pulling shifts making sure someone is with her 24/7. I have gone ONE WEEK without tracking and I have gained TWO POUNDS!! I haven’t had anything crazy bad just a few more servings of the same foods and snacks I have been eating. I know that I should be able to lose it but wow- that was way too easy to gain.

Beer craving
Arabesque replied to Elder_Millennial's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Different plans have different timelines around when to start consuming alcohol again. What does your plan say? Remember it’s always best to follow your plan. Why the craving? Is it really beer you’re craving or something else (food)? Do you really need it or are you looking for something to comfort you? Swapping one addiction/craving for another is a concern after weight loss surgery. You can’t satisfy your food craving so you look for something else and alcohol is often what people turn too. Will one beer satisfy your craving or will you want another one tomorrow? Will that beer be worth the calories & the carbs? You’re not 4 weeks out & are still healing. It’s why you’re still on a staged return to eating a broader diet of solid food. Beer is very acidic & will upset & irritate your healing tummy. These are just some things to consider before making your decision. All the best. -
Before and After Pics

Been a while since I checked in. A friend of mine said, "You know, if you do a French tuck*, you can show off those belt buckles of yours. You're slim enough now." I am not convinced this is the style for me (feels like I wasn't paying attention after pulling my pants up and accidentally buttoned them around my shirt), but damn if it didn't feel nice to actually be able to do it. So here I am, another almost 40 lbs. down, 39 to go. Three quarters of the way to goal. * French tuck - you tuck in the front but not the back. I know no French people who do this, but maybe it's named after Tan France instead of France France. -
We all heal & recover in our own time. Some will say I was fine after a week or two others will say a month. Me, I was a couple of months but I always seem to take longer to recover from everything even a cold. Plus it was complicated by my tendency for occasional drops in blood pressure becoming low BP all day every day. Even my head became doughy & my concentration was poor. Don’t give yourself a deadline. Take your recovery at your pace & listen to your body. Keep working at meeting your fluid & protein goals. But you won’t feel like you did before - you’ll feel so much better because of your weight loss & improving general health. Won’t it be great.

I’m abt 6 weeks post op as well. I’m am able to tolerate foods. Just the water. I tried the crystal like wild strawberry and was able to tolerate a full bottle of water. I’m afraid of becoming dehydrated. I’m doing okay with my protein but liquids are very hard!! I hope you get better as well. -

We are surgery twins!!! My sleeve was 12/22! I am actually starting body for life diet I used to body build and used that meal plan and workout so I’m doing it again. It’s high protein low fat and carbs. I know I caught myself snacking small meals at first because I just couldn’t eat much and once I went to 6 small meals a day I broke the stall. It is hard to figure out food there are some really good YouTube videos out there that helped me -

I never think abt inches. I’m down 26lbs in 4 weeks but I don’t see much of a difference in my clothing. -
I'm 2 week, 2 day post op. Usually when someone has a procedure done, the doctor tells you recovery is XX weeks. Well, not really this time. So..how long before you start feeling normal again. I stay tired all the time.

College Student - Gastric Bypass during semester?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Overt28's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say do it during the spring break. You need time to recuperate. Some folks may have it easy but sometimes you may need more time and you don't want the extra stress of school at the same time. I was in school and my term was hectic, a semester of work squeezed in 2.5 months. So I had postponed my surgery by 2 months and got it done during the break between terms. And I was so glad I did that. First week more or less you're knocked out and don't have the energy to do anything (I was on 1 week clear fluids diet post-Op). After that full fluids for 3 weeks. Fatigue and lack of energy persisted at least for 2 to 3 weeks. So I was grateful for the break time. I would recommend if you can, do it during your break time and you'll thank yourself. It a huge change for your body and also your eating and drinking habits. It takes time to gradually move over. Good luck with whatever you decide. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
Spinoza replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am now 10 weeks post op and I have lost 27lbs since the day of my surgery. I had just one long stall of about 2 weeks post op but have lost about 2lbs a week since then. I'm so so pleased with that. I have quite a way to go but I feel like I'm into the swing of things. I do have a little alcohol every weekend but it's one or two drinks and all counted in my calorie allowance, which is around 800 per day now and 1000 at weekends. Good luck to everyone, hope it's going well for you all. -

That's almost four months from surgery, isn't it? Your weight loss stats are very similar to mine. I lost 25lbs before surgery and 27lbs since. My first advice would be to take a week and track absolutely everything you eat. Go back to basics - protein first, then veg, then good complex carbs if you have room. No drinking fluids for at least half an hour after eating. Clear the house of junk - you sound like you know that's what's holding you back and causing the dumping. Sticking to the program works (well it has for me so far!) I hope you smash that stall in no time. 💪
