  1. cottage cheese and applesauce. tuna with mayo bean and bacon campbells soup pureed chicken with chicken broth protein smoothie with strawberries yogurt pureed hot and sour soup (i was craving FLAVOR)
  2. The first mushy thing I ate was a scrambled egg and only a couple bites of it. I have a love/hate relationship with eggs, sometimes they are great and others make me feel like I am going to be sick just looking at them. I hate greek yogurt and cottage cheese so those were a no go for me. Before surgery I made a pot of my homemade beef stew and froze very small portions of it. I put it through a blender and ate that heated up. Lots of flavor, something I had been craving. Lots of creamed Soups, cream of potato, mushroom, chicken were my favorites. Lots of mashed potatoes and since they were just small portions I made the small Betty Crocker packets instead of making them from scratch each time. Those have different flavors so it wasn't the same old thing every day. I also did the blended tuna w/mayo or chicken w/mayo. It took me awhile to really slow down and get used to the insanely small amount I was eating.
  3. I had been so looking forward to cottage cheese when I came up on mushies...and then I tasted it and ran for the bathroom. Sleevie & I still don't see eye to eye sometimes. I lived on shredded chicken and mayo during mushies. I also ate scrambled eggs nearly every morning. Other than that I couldn't tolerate much. I've found my taste buds changed since surgery (I'm 13 weeks out). Yogurt and cottage cheese still taste bad to me. I had a small bite of banana bread over the holidays and had to spit that out too. I do crave broccoli (go figure) and meat now (specifically steak). I have a little ice cream several nights a week to satisfy the sweet cravings I still get daily. Listen to your body, but don't be afraid, like BrownDoesAll said, to try it again in a few days. Sometimes Sleevie can just be temperamental!

    Ug! Not "shrink-o"ing fast enough

I will admit that yesterday was a particularly scant-eating day. I do focus on getting enough Protein generally though b/c I'm scared about losing my hair. Today, I had a lowfat yogurt, a soup (home made butternut squash soup), and I'll have salmon for dinner. I really want that scale to move, darn it!

    Post sleeve pain in stomach

Same issue here. I find that warm liquids don't do it as bad. And I'm supposed to be eating full liquids like applesauce, yogurt, etc but I'm scared to! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. Hello all!!! I'm about to enter the puree stage of my post op diet on Friday and was looking for some help/advice. In the liquid stage, I'm able to get down about 8-11 oz of liquid for my "meals" no problem. I have a feeling that will change when I switch to purées. Any suggestions how much food I should be eating per meal? Also, any suggestions for recipes and or shopping staples? I already stocked up on Greek yogurt but would love some suggestions on other staples. Plus I have only been able to find a handful of recipes online. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
  8. My daily target is 85 g. I had my sleeve 5/13 How I do it (for what it's worth) During puree, they gave (my NUT) me some recipes for puree stuff and I did a Protein Shake for Breakfast and then ate either pureed homemade chili or deconstructed lasagna for the other two meals. Then cottage cheese for Snacks. Didn't count calories in the early stages. For soft foods, I did more like pot roast, and chili not through the blender. My Protein Shakes are whey isolate (Six Star chocolate) with plain light soy milk (just recently switched to unsweetened almond) some fruit (now that I can have it again) and PB2 (only 1T, not 2) I also love the unjury chicken Soup Protein. You might try that if you don't like the milky kind. Just don't overheat it (has instructions) or it will separate out. It counts as a "shake" I also did a lot of ready-to-drink Isopure - Blue Raspberry or Coconut. The others I found vile. I was eating greek yogurt until recently, when someone pointed out the carbs in the fruit. So my options were plain with MIO added for flavor, or cottage cheese instead. I like cottage cheese, so I changed. I eat string cheese. I've added back in nuts for snacks. I used to eat a lot of Ostrim, which is 96% fat free beef-ostrich Jerky. It's about 80 calories, and 14 g of protein. The skin isn't sitting too well with me yet, unfortunately. It's a decent snack, especially before a workout. Don't despair - there are days I actually exceed 90 g of protein! It can be done! the thing they don't tell you in advance is how much planning this takes. You just have to think about what you're going to eat for the whole day, or it doesn't work. Good luck! Kathy
  9. I LOVED LOVED LOVED my premier shakes Drank them everyday for months after surgery past the point that I needed too.. Yeah I'm finally sick of them too. I try to eat Protein dense foods mostly like chicken and fish. But I also eat Fage 2% Greek yogurt everyday for an extra 20 grams. Good stuff and my new love. Oh milk makes you feel sick... Does All dairy then?

    what did the nutritionist say?!

so tell me if your meals are 4oz only how are you supposed to get your 70grams Protein in daily without protein shakes or supplements? because thats the goal isnt it to get your nutrition naturally? So if your meal is only meat where is the veggies? So if lets say your meal consists of 3oz meat 1 oz veggies. Breakfast is either dry cereal or 2 eggs or even a greek yogurt if you add up the protein your still not getting adequate protein intake.
  11. 1200 calories is doable. My protein goal is 100 grams of protein and I am about 1200 calories a day. I eat lots of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, turkey, tuna, etc. I still supplement with a protein shake most days. One way to up your calories a little bit is to add some healthy fats.

    full liquids question!

You can do strained soups and yogurt on full liquids. Not much else. Puréed is the next step. It's hard but hang in here!
  13. Dense protein - like 3 oz of meat - is DEFINITELY more filling, but so often I want something like yogurt or cottage cheese instead. Good foods, yes, but they slide right through you. I really need to try to eat dense proteins every day. It might not be such a struggle to maintain my weight if I did...

    Drastic Measures

Thanks Iowa, as of this morning I am 168 and am going to try the 600 experiment. I have to remind myself that this won't actually hurt, because I don't feel hunger. It will be interesting to note all of the emotions I feel, that will be brought up, like anxiety. Today I will have one egg, one protein shake made with water, one container of greek yogurt with walnuts, and one protein shot. 600 cals, 79g protein, 21g carbs. After work I will run 2 miles and lift weights, let's see what happens!
  15. I believe what you are seeing is a changing of the philosophy from high carbs are good for you to carbs are non-essential. Yes, this means Atkins was right all along and the entire medical establishment was wrong. So you see old information mixed with new information out there. Also, the one size fits all on calories and Protein is just plain wrong. If one person has 200lb lean body mass and another female has 120lb lean body mass why is the protein intake the same recommendation in order to preserve lean body mass? This is highly flawed. If you eat 3(-4oz @2+ months) protein first there will likely not be much room for anything else. Carbohydrates are not necessary for the human body. Water, protein, micronutrients and fat are daily requirements. The latest and greatest best studies pretty much backup for best fat loss (not just weight loss) low carb is the optimal way to lose the fat. It is funny to me to watch the transition in the minds of the medical community - people sure do resist change even in the face of very compelling evidence. All of us has to find what works best for all of us individually. Ideally you get your body fat measured and use that as your guide to weight loss. Losing lean body mass, organs, bones is NOT healthy. Nutritionists are just parrots. They seldom are able to do research and really think for themselves. Whatever the latest medical dogma is will be what they tell you. Therefore, do your own research and do your own experiment on yourself carefully. It is your life, your health. I started a new thread to see what other members doc's are recommending just b/c there are soooooo many variances from doctor to doctor. I had to dig out my pre op nutrition class materials but I posted what my surgeon post op recommendations are and they are sooooo drastically different than yours. It's like... how can that be? I mean.. shouldn't this be kind of standard. I am so confused! I am becoming a bit disenchanted with my WLS clinic. I'm losing at a decent rate (down 35 pounds since surgery 7 weeks ago). What I am not happy about is my clinic's mandate that I follow a diet that has me eating no more than 15g of carbs a day, less than 500 calories a day. Plus, this diet should be in place until I lose 75% of my excess weight loss (which, for me, is 100 pounds - or 65 now) I met with the dietician yesterday and came out of the meeting very frustrated. She didn't like the fact that I ate a yogurt that has 80 calories, 0g fat, and 12g of protein - why? It has 8 carbs. "You shouldn't be eating more than 5 carbs per meal" was her reply. Mind you, when I eat that yogurt I'm not going over 15 for the day - but no, it's not good because it's more than 5 carbs for the meal. And it's because I'm going over 5 carbs a meal that my weight loss isn't as fast as other people's. I also mentioned that I'm a little tired of depending on Miralax on a weekly/biweekly basis and that I was concerned my constipation is being caused by a lack of fiber. She said no, it's not a lack of fiber and that I just need to up my water intake. Um, I'm already getting between 64-80 a day! And to say fiber isn't an issue is utter BS in my opinion. It's not just the NUT who says this - it's in the clinic's aftercare manual. I am really tempted to find some other doctor/clinic's aftercare suggestions and follow those for a bit and see what happens.
  16. 7 weeks after my sleeve I had to have my rotator cuff repaired. Just make sure they don't give you crackers or Cookies in the recovery. I took a cup of apple sauce, and a yogurt with me. I was told I had to keep something down before I could be discharged from the surgi center.

    A bit bummed out

messing up pretty bad. eating what ever I want. @@APURNELL welcome back - we missed you!!!! i think being on the board reinforces our new life in sleeveland "reminds" us of what we should be doing eating whatever you want??? KNOCK IT OFF!!! i can't imagine how hard it is to keep such a busy lifestyle/schedule while watching your eating habits too!! not that this helps you much - but i know other people like you somehow manage to do "everything" my hat is off to everyone with a family/kids/work/school etc. etc it must be very hard to do, but you can do it as far as your surgeon goes............ keep bugging his office i think its terrible they haven't returned your calls next time you call, emphasize that their are problems and you must speak to doc ASAP !!!! "remind" the office that you have tried to call doc on several occassions never returns your calls Do you have an "official" NUT?? if not will insurance help pay to see one even a couple times would help you "tomorrow" go back to basics with Protein shakes only that will give you a head start on weight loss whenever you "might" think of eating something you shouldn't DON'T DO IT!!! remember i'm watching you!! good for you that you know what to eat, portions etc but your situation/weight loss won't happen as long as you graze, eat whatever you want put a lid on it choosing the sleeve, doing your research i can tell you are a smart cookie Its easier said than done but you must stop eating all that crappp -NOW force yourself to start to follow the rules again do you remember them all? these are the basic rules i can think of drink 64 oz of Water a day stop drinking about 30 minutes before you eat never, ever, ever drink with your meals people have been shot for less don't drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat small bites eat very slowly chew thoroughly protein first chicken, fish, cheese, egg cottage cheese - yogurt watch your carb intake measure ALL your food keep track of EVERYTHING you eat be honest!! maybe use MFP since you are returning to eating properly my opinion only....(covering my small assss ) after you stop doing the Protein Shakes maybe daily eat 700-800 calories a day for awhile to help you loose more weight choosing to have WLS/sleeved shows you are a smart cookie remember - when you least expect it, i will peak in on you take care bud you can do this, i know you can good luck kathy

    Full Liquid Diet ?

No worries, full liquid answers pre or post are helpful and I can still apply my doctor's orders. Unfortunately today wasn't much better. I did get down some Greek yogurt but it still tasted gross to me.

    Eating out

Hi kmo. You should start a separate thread so folks reply to your question. In the meantime, did your doctor's office give you any sample menus? If not, a few examples are tuna and egg salads...chopped or mixed very fine. Hummus, yogurt, soft cheeses. For snacks, pudding, Jello, pops...all sugar free of course. It's really anything that is naturally soft or you can make into a mushy consistency.. Good luck.
  22. I had a type of pain during the 2 week post op period that was only soothed by food. I didn't know if it was hunger or not, but yogurt cured it. Mine happened at night. My stomach would be so empty and would only let me sleep if I ate a spoonful or two of yogurt. I ended up taking a carton of yogrut to bed with me and would eat a spoonful whenever the pain would wake me up. The yogurt would soothe the pain enough to let me sleep a couple of hours and then I'd wake up again. I went through this all night long. I told my nurses about what I was doing, and although it's not really the way bandsters are supposed to eat, it was during the healing phase and they were OK with it. If you haven't talked to your doctor or nurses about this pain and what you're doing for it, may I suggest you do so.. just to be sure that it's ok with them. Hope you feel better soon. And yes, this pain/hunger did go away for me. I don't recall how long it took, but not all that long in the overall scheme of things. Best wishes

    how much do you eat?

I eat about 6 bites (the size of bite you would give a two year old) of real meat and adout 3 spears of asparagus or 3 broccoli floweretts. If I have my cheese roll ups I have 4 slices of cheese each with a piece of deli turkey and roast beef on it. Either meal it takes about 30 min to eat. If I eat 5oz yogurt I mix in a little of my protein powder in it and it also takes about 20-30 min. While I am at practice I normally have an Atkins snack bar and that only takes about 5 minutes. I used to put all of my food in a 1/2c pampered chef measuring cup. But after I got used to seeing the serving size I am able to "eyeball" it on a plate. Although I still do it with soups or things that I am unsure of. I still limit my grain carbs to lunch or before, lunch is my "biggest" meal where it is usually a 6" subway sandwich either chicken or turkey and ham. That takes me about an hour to eat it because of the bread. Most days I eat about half of that the pull the meat and veggies and eat it by itself.

Hi, you should be on full liquids now. and having at least 60 grams of protein. And you should be having Strained & thinned cream of white or rice cereal on strianed baby cereals.. you have can any kind of 100% fruit juices or 100% vegetalbe juice.. Dole is the best kind of fruit juice to me... and you can have create low fat soups, like potato soup, and other cambells soup, go in Walmart and look around... and all the other stuff which includes sugar free popsicles, surgar free jello, low fat yogurt (with out the fruit) try the trix ones for kids, there great and no fruit in is them. If you still feel bad after all this, contact your doctor. Hope this helps.

    I have my surgery date!

I'm stocking up on all the Vitamins and Protein I'll need for a few months. My local Bariatric Supply store has unflavored whey protein that I can mix into Soups and yogurt. I'm going to buy a small bottle of that and maybe a vanilla one to mix into pudding and yogurt. Be careful not to buy too much of any one food. I was told that tastes change after your surgery and what you like now you may not like then. Get a variety of things in smaller amounts to try to see what is best for you. Try an Herbal tea variety pack to see what you like. I bought small comtainers to measure out small portions of food that I can grab quickly. They say small plates and utensils are helpful for eating slowly when you are on solids. sugar-free popsicles have flavor and can help keep you hydrated. I am going to buy a Nutribullit to make shakes and puree foods (if it does that). Have loose comfortable clothing, as your abdomin will be tender for a little while. The tips above are all things I read about and am doing myself but of course I am NOT the voice of expreience. You started the same time I did and you already have your date! I am envious! Good luck to you!
