So after surgery my taste buds have changed completely.
Daisee68 replied to melps's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This has happened to a lot of people. I don't find that it happened to me other than I have burned out on certain things. My favorite Protein drink is ready made Premier Protein - both the chocolate and the vanilla are very good! They are only 11 oz and contain 30 g of protein. HIGHLY recommend those. For powders, I use Precision Engineered Whey Protein Isolate (order it online). I think they are very good (both chocolate and vanilla). The vanilla smells wonderful (even per someone not a WLS patient at work that smelled it as I poured it in to my yogurt). I mix 1/2 scoop of vanilla with 1/2 container of greek yogurt. Or I also mix 1/2 scoop of the chocolate with chocolate sugar free fat free pudding snack. You will get lots of suggestions here. I was lucky that I landed on the above (recommended on this board) and loved them and never had to try different ones. Good luck with your search! Vitamin Shoppe sells some samples and BariatricPantry.com also sells samples. You might start with those. -

TMG1980TMG replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can I ask why you are skipping breakfast? It doesn't seem like the best idea? What are your daily protein totals so far? Are you following the plan your surgeon gave you? I am 3 weeks out from surgery today- My days are pretty similar Protein coffee (With Fairlife Milk, depending on which of my protein powders I choose 26-29 g protein here) This takes me a good 2 hours to drink usually lunch 1 Light and Fit Greek Yogurt 12 g protein Takes about 45-60 minutes to eat dinner 1/4-1/3 cup refried Beans, 2 TBSP salsa, 1 TBSP Sour cream 7 g protein I will add unflavored protein powder to crystal light if needed to reach my goal of 50g minimum I am usually at about 500 calories. I am usually short on water/calorie free liquids... I try to drink but it takes me a long time. -

So going through all my paperwork from my surgeon, I find that I will not be on an all liquid diet 2 weeks pre op. My diet will have 2 protein shakes a sensible dinner along with 3 snacks throughout the day. Dinner is a 4oz meat with 2-3 cups of veggies and the snacks are 1cup veggies or a single serving of my choice of dairy product like yogurt or cottage cheese. Anyone else have a pre op diet that was NOT all liquid?

Nice to see another Oklahoman on the board. Does yogurt count? -
I have included a recipe for a Blueberry smoothie that uses Greek Yogurt in a short article I wrote on Bariatric Surgery. It is available at http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf In the later stages of weight loss, I used it as a Protein supplement. But this option may not be advisable immediately after surgery.

If you are talking about plain greek yogurt, it does take time to get used to it. I used to add peanut butter, or protein powder to mine. Then I started adding Torani syrup. Now I have started using it to replace mayo in my tuna salad. I use a little lemon pepper in the yogurt and mix 2 tablespoons with 4 oz tuna. I think it rocks!

Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

Try it with chocolate protein powder. I hate it too but plan on trying that. My hubby uses swiss miss when he eats plain yogurt and loves it. -
Protein levels low ????

You could try foods that are both high protein and high carb, like yogurt, beans, and tofu? -
Not a big fan of yogurt and never ate it. Still managed to lose 150 lbs. and with the help of Biotin and Protein powder, didn't lose all my hair either.

I have to agree with you Dub, Oikos Greek yogurt is tasty.. you to mix it well as it sometimes has a chalk consistency if not mixed well, that was the only learning curve I have to get use to when I crossed over from regular yogurt to Greek. -
3 weeks today post VSG. Sailed through recovery but in the dreaded stall for 2 weeks now. On,y 3 pounds off in the last two weeks. Can you look at my food for today and provide any thoughts. It looks good to me. FYI, the yogurt is homemade with a scoop of chocolate Protein powder. The 2 HB eggs are in egg salad. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I am a yogurt fan from way back....Greek has bit more tangy taste IMO but I love it. I do not care for plain unless I am substituting it for sour cream. I like the great value flavors from walmart as well!

Want to chug... So thirsty
winklie replied to cjd2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets better. Sip sip sip. Just keep at it. I get well over 70 oz of liquid a day without any real effort. It took a week or so to get to that point. Also depending on your diet, try things that will keep your mouth wet for longer periods of time, like pudding or yogurt. There are a lot of thing that just plain suck at first, but they get better. Honestly Basic Training was worse than this and I survived that, so I have no doubt I can make it through this. Best of luck -
I love greek yogurt but i also add fruit like kiwi fruit and blue barrios and it tastes great! thats berries not barrios.....grrr typos

How much do you eat a day
winklie replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today marks day 15 post op. My eating schedule is pretty standard, I imbibe about 700 calories a day > 100 grams of Protein and more than 70 oz of Water. Breakfast (two parts) Part one, coffee, with splenda and a shot of 2% milk (Cannot drink coffee with less than 2% milk, just can't) shake #1 11 oz milk, 42 oz unjury Protein powder (I mix 50% vanilla and 50% chocolate) lunch, is more of a brunch, I eat later. But is consists of shake #2. dinner = something, perhaps some pudding, or yogurt (Dannon Light and Fit Greek are fantastic). I also may have cream of chicken Soup, or broth, I try and keep dinner light as I eat is a bit late, but varied. I have a water bottle grafted to my hand, and a 32oz bottle that I fill 16oz at a time with crystal light (buy every flavor and rotate) as I finish a bottle I mark down another 16 oz of water. I log everything in Fitbit. My diet changes tomorrow (cannot wait!) I should mention I also have Isopure carb free protein powder, I was out of Unjury due to poor planning, and needed a shake in a hurry. no PDCASS score, so it's probably crap, but I sub that in place of Unjury from time to time, because, well, I spent $50 on it and I am going to use it, lol. -
I'm a dude who didn't care for yogurt. It's something I sidestepped and reached for other unhealthy garbage. Once I entered the diet prior to the pre-op liquid diet, I gave Greek yogurt a try due to it's higher Protein content. I'm a big football fan and had seen Cam Newton's Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt commercials and figured I'd give it a go. I was very impressed with the flavor and thought it was great. Every flavor was really to my liking. I gave other brands of Greek yogurt a try and never found one I liked as much as the Oikos Triple Zero. None were as healthy, either. Give it try if you don't get dialed in on another brand. I'm 7 days post-op, 3rd week of liquids with a few more weeks of liquids to go. I am very much looking forward to the days ahead when I can have my Greek yogurt. It's going to be awesome..

Are you pre op? I could not stand any kind of yogurt or any flavor prior to surgery. My taste buds changed a lot after surgery and I tried yogurt and actually liked it!! I was even surprised that my favorite flavor is plain old vanilla. -

I LOVE trader joes nonfat European style yogurt! Not sure the carb/protein count tho. I put a ton of turmeric powder and a little liquid stevia, sometimes some cinnamon since that stuff is good for inflammation in general...might be too spicy after surgery tho. -

Thinside replied to Castillo15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you really can't tolerate Greek yogurt, try Noosa. It has less Protein, and more calories and carbs than most Greek yogurts, but it is AMAZING. I eat it for dessert as a guilt-free treat. It comes in 4 oz sizes. The lemon tastes like lemon meringue pie filling and the blueberry is awesome. (120-130 calories, 9 gm protein, 14 gm carbs). -

I like the Dannon Light & Fit Greek. It comes in lots of flavors and the calories, sugars and carbs are low and the Protein is high. http://www.lightandfit.com/light-yogurt/light-and-fit-greek/strawberry-cheesecake
