@@tpatterson I lived on cottage cheese, Protein shakes, yogurt, string cheese and string cheese. At dinner I would order salmon, eat 2 or 3 bites and my son would eat the rest. I was not at the stage where I could eat salad or vegetables unless they were cooked mushy which is rare to actually get that when you order it. My loved it because he would order a big juicy steak and have my leftover fish and call it surf and turf. I also had a fridge in our hotel room where I kept my premier Protein Shakes and string cheese. I will say it was near impossible to keep up on Water for me. I had not yet carried my own personal water bottle every where I went. I would definately carry mine with me now and I do.

How much do you eat a day
goblue9280 replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just over 2 weeks out and I've been on a pretty regular schedule. My daily diet is usually something like this: Breakfast - premier Protein shake lunch (noon to 1) - 1/3 to 1/2 cup of Beans or chili with a tablespoon of reduced fat shredded cheese. Snack - half a yogurt dinner - 1/3 to 1/2 cup beans or chili, or tuna salad Snack - other half of yogurt or another serving of beans I buy little disposable tasting spoons from Kroger and use those to eat. I will also add a tablespoon or so of hummus to a meal/snack when I feel like it. I get a bit of hunger/craving every now and then but it's nothing like the hunger is have while dieting pre-surgery. I also find I stay satiated longer than I ever did pre surgery. -
Ounces of protein
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to ShannonSinTx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at 7 months out and I still have 2 oz of Protein like chicken breast, steak or pork with 1 oz of fruit and 1 oz of veggie. If I eat cottage cheese or yogurt, I can usually do more - like 4-5 oz of protein. -

Post Op Lactose Intolerance...why?
flumd0612 replied to OilSooner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is an old post, but I had the same issue yesterday. Had 5 ounces of Kefir (yogurt-based drink) and for the rest of the day had severe, debilitating cramps which would only go away with pain pills and sleep. Today, no dairy at all, and I am fine. While I am bummed...I hope this is it because I have been worried about all the pain I have been having! -
Veterans: Sluggish bowels?
BLERDgirl replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm vegetarian so I'm sure that plays a part. Lots of plant based foods full of Fiber. I am regular as clockwork and have been pretty much since day 5 post op. I go anywhere from 1 - 3 times a day, most days twice. I always have to go when I wake up and sometimes again after dinner. I find that on really active days, depending on what I've eaten I may go mid-day as well. Like the other posters have mentioned add some natural fiber in there. Apple or prune juice are good options. Probiotics or yogurt are also good. If you eat yogurt or hot cereals a tsp of wheat germ, flax powder or psylium powder may help. -

@@Dub - Take heart, I had my son and four of his college buddies over at my house to watch football Saturday and I grilled up one heck of a spread and they even liked my re-fried bean dip with Greek yogurt. So life is great albeit in smaller quantities. -
Hi All, I had my surgery on Thursday, 10/15 - late in the afternoon (2PM). I stayed in recovery until 8PM when I was moved to my room. I was able to do a walk down the hallway and back at 10PM and began drinking Water as soon as I got into my room. I am thrilled to say I have had absolutely no adverse reactions. Sure I would get a little fluttering in my stomach and tad bit of nausea but never came close to feeling like I needed to throw up and the gas pains were minimal - I never exprienced the gas pains in my back or shoulders that others warned about. I was sipping decafe coffee, chicken broth, and Jello for Breakfast the next day and did two more strolls down the hallway. I was discharged at 4PM the following day and opted to walk out vs. using a wheelchair. I will admit that walking out of the hospital and into my house wore me out and made my legs weak for about 24 hours. I have continued to follow my doc's orders and diet. I began full liquids on day three - again no problem or reactions other than a little fluttering in my stomach which I took as a sign to stop eating. I've been eating cream of wheat (mixed with unflavored Protein poweder), greek yogurt, protien shakes, and homemade blendered tomato Soup (with protein powder). I even took a small trip to the grocery store (didn't drive) yesterday. Again it wore me out and I napped for 2 hours afterwards but then had plenty of energy after the nap. Overall I am extremely pleased with how my body is responding. I am giving a lot of credit to the fact that I am sipping the Isopure bottled clear Protein drinks for my main liquid intake - I even made jello and popsicles out it. I'm taking all my suppliments too. The only odd side effect I've had is taking my cholestrol meds - I take a lot - 3 different prescriptions but 6 pills in total. The first night I took them I spaced each pill out by 10 min but that didn't seem to be enough time as I was burping up a bad chemical/medicine taste about 30 min after taking the last pill. So now I spread them out throughout the day and have not had that problem. What about weight you ask? When I got home that next day I got on the scale and I was 5lbs heavier than when I went in for surgery - realizing it was mostly trapped gas and all the IV fluids in me I didn't freak out. As of today I am 5 lbs lighter than the day of surgery.

I don't focus on carbs much either....I don't count calories either. Nut told me to eat 64 oz of lean Protein a day...I have a hard enough time getting those in. At meals, I eat about 3 oz of protein...and if there is any room left, I'll eat a little bit of non starchy veggies, maybe a tiny bit of Quinoa or brown rice...but it is really only like a tablespoon I can get in. Sometimes for Snacks I'll eat a small plum or some red/yellow/green peppers...strawberries with my yogurt, stuff like that. I have found a very low carb bread (6 net carbs per slice), but I mainly just use it to give my family. I did have a half a slice with Breakfast last week, and it had very little impact on my pouch or my WL. I have enough issues getting the 64 oz of protein and 64 oz of Water, I don't really have much room or mental energy left to really worry about carbs, I just try to make the right choices when I do eat them. I find that the more I focus on counting calories and carbs, the more stressed out I get...so I stopped doing it. Nut told me to count protein...so that is what I'm doing. I'm down 50 pounds....as long as it keeps going down, and I keep feeling great...I'm good...so is my NUT. I've been tracking my food on the Bariastic app on my phone.

Chobani Greek yogurt ... Pumpkin.... SUGARS!? Help!

Hi everyone, I had my surgery in June and just had my second band fill on September 30th. For about a week everything was fine, business as usual. Then after a week I was disgusted by food. Nothing sounds appetizing. The thought of food makes me nauseated. When I do eat something - yogurt, protein shakes, veggies, whatever - it goes down all right so I don't think my band is too tight but I'm not really sure? Is this maybe just a psychological thing? I did have some bread stick for the first time, which freaked me out. Shortly after is when I lost my taste for all food. :/ Thanks in advance for the advice!

ANGRY WITH MY NUTRITIONIST
StephOnTheMove replied to StephOnTheMove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's odd to me that I'm only allowed two soups... tomato and butternut squash. I did check the label and purchased the low sodium organic one and it doesn't have much sugar... I think 3 grams... plus I don't eat a whole serving (1 cup) .. so my intake is half of that. Aside from that... I'm having issues with all liquids and anything sweet. pudding isn't working I get really bad cramps, my old friend Jello no longer agrees with me and the same for yogurt. I think the liquids will get better when my nausea issue is resolved... I'm hoping to get medicine for that from my doctor Tuesday. I've been battling getting my liquids in as best I can with the sip sip sip method. It takes forever but its doable... I just can't wait to be able to drink without constantly feeling like I'm going to hurl. In terms of the shakes... Thank you all for the suggestions... but I'm not tolerating lactose so they pretty much all have been a no go. My nut says I can't have powder Protein yet either but when I can I will try that unjury flavorless powder. That sounds like something that might work! I'm trying to tay positive but this phase has proven much more difficult than anticipated... one day at a time. -

That's funny--just this evening at the store, the lady in front of me had some of that, and I thought it looked good, so I looked up the nutritional facts when I got home. My NUT says to avoid things with 10 or more grams of sugar per serving, so I'm passing on it. But, I did find a couple recipes on Pinterest for lower-sugar versions that I'm going to try: http://www.skinnymom.com/pumpkin-pie-yogurt-cinnamon-roasted-walnuts/ http://www.busybuthealthy.com/greek-pumpkin-yogurt/ -

4 Weeks out of Surgery- need advice

Please I need advice..... I am about 4 weeks out. I do not see a big weight difference i have lost only including the Fluid gained in hospital 24 lbs, if i drink 80 oz a day and do 60 grams Protein I seem to gain weight. is this normal. I feel my eyeballs are floating. it is so hard to drink so much a day including my Protein drinks and eat 1 been or 1 vegetable a day per say my nutritionist. If I eat it is 2-3 spoon full of either a bean (for fiber/Protein) mixed California mix for a vegetable or some Greek yogurt. this id what my nutritionist has me doing. my calories are still under 500 a day. If i drink the 80 oz of fluid 2-12 oz protein drinks I literally feel like i am going to explode by nightfall. i start drinking at 8 am and stop between 10-11 at night Any suggestions I am at a loss here. I may lose now 2 lbs a week. I am walking anywhere from 2-4 miles a day and keeping myself busy. I am 5'2 and at 214.....what is the minimum to drink that i do not feel miserable. -

It's not horrible. I've seen much worse. I think it would be fine. If you're tracking put it in your tracker and see how it effects your day. It depends on what numbers you want. I don't eat yogurt anymore but when I did I ate Fage because it had the lowest amount of sugar I could find. @@Lexuskela -
Struggling with the liquid diet numbers game

Here you go...I pretty much do the same thing over and over because it doesn't bother me and I hate cream Soups. :-) Try not to laugh at this....I do really well on a schedule, and my hospital gave me general times to follow for food that you see below. Works for me and I am able to get it into my work day and home life with hubby and kids. For the first week at home I kept forgetting to take my Water bottle in the car. ARGH! If I don't plan, guaranteed I'll end up missing a meal or two in favor of getting liquids in. Good luck! It's another job right now and I'm doing it with you! :-) 6:45 AM - 8 oz cinnamon tea w/skim and truvia 8:00 AM - 1/4 cup cream of wheat with cinnamon and truvia 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM - about 12 oz of water, tea, crystal light, etc. 11:00 AM - baby food mixed with 1/2 scoop unflavored ispoure or 1tbsp natural Peanut Butter Noon - 12:45 PM - I can get in about 6 oz of water 1:00 PM - lite greek yogurt with 1/2 scoop unflavored Isopure 2:00 PM - 2:45 - I can get in about 6 oz of water 3:00 PM - CIB with scoop unflavored isopure and tsp PB2 with skim - 8oz and takes me an hour 4:30 PM - 5:45 PM - I can get in at least 8 oz 6:00 PM - 1/4 cup refried Beans with ff cheese (cheese is OK per doc) 7:00 PM - 8 oz iced tea 8:15 PM - SF Jello 9:00 PM - 8 oz tea with skim and truvia -

It's certainly a balancing act! When I first had surgery, I set a timer in my phone for 1 minute. Everytime it went off, I would take a sip of Water. I would do that for about 20 minutes several times a day. I also did it with Protein shakes. Staying hydrated is important so keep working on it! Refried Beans, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and yogurt are really what I ate during the mushy stage.
