  1. I had my 4 cc band placed in 2003 and did awesome!!! Went from size 22 to 10/12 and maintained til January of this year when I suddenly lost complete restriction. The weight started packing on and unfortunately I am now up to size 18. But because of financial reasons I did not return to my band dr until last month. The last time I had seen him for a fill (2005) he documented that I had 2.5 cc but when he withdrew back, there was no fluid in band. He suspected it evaporated- I had my doubts but figured he's the dr and has probably seen it all. Anyways, I returned today for an additional fill which I was looking forward to since I had still not achieved any restriction from last fill. Today I was suppose to have started off with 1.5 cc but when the fluid was pulled- again, nothing. Therefore they only added 1 cc today and I am to return on Monday for a confirmation of a leak. Both fills were done under fluoro and the before and after pics showed the same thing- no restriction before, restriction after. For anybody that has experienced this could you please let me know what happened in your situation so I kinda know what to expect from this point. Will I have to have the whole band replaced or what? I'm not afraid, just kinda would like to know what my options are if there is any.

anyone feel like they need restapling

So, let me see if I understand your question? You feel you may have gained a few pounds so you want to have more surgery? First, you either have or haven't gained weight. What does the scale say? What does your doctor say? Are you still in a healthy range? Second, are you following your food plan? What does your NUT advise?

    First Post-op visit

Dr. very impressed with my progress, says I am doing all the right things, and is happy enough with my weight loss to hold off my 1st fill for another 3 weeks. Great news was he released me to go back to aqua-aerobics yayaa!!! Although I am not losing weight post op as much as I thought I would, I know that I will never weigh this weight again, so every pound off is a pound off forever! Looking forward to a lot of good things this year!
  8. Hello! My band was removed in July due to erosion. It was unexpected. I instantly felt hungry. When I healed - I went to my weight management doctor and demanded to be put on medication to help with my hunger. I have been on Meridia (and when I realized that didn't work for me) I went on Phentermine. I have not gained any weight back. I haven't lost the remaining 40 that I needed to lose, however; I haven't gained. It is a grieving process for me still to this day. I miss my band, but my loss was unexpected. Expect to be hungry immediately, and expect to eat exactly the same. Focus on your band diet, and do something immediately to help with your hunger! Also keep up with your exercise! Good luck!!!

You will have to go thru 6 months of supervised weight loss plan, so it will be 7 months until your surgery.

Eating Everything I Can, While I Can:(

I took advantage of the chance to lose some preop weight and I did! I stopped sugar and carbs months preop and I glad I did. It eased me into the small quality of food we can eat postop instead of having to go cold turkey.
  11. I was banded this year under my partner's insurance plan as a dependent. That insurance coverage option will no longer be available to me as of Jan. 2011 so I'll be opting back into my employer's medical coverage. I have two options under that plan - United Health Care PPO or UHC EPO. From what I understand both specifically exclude WLS. I've read conflicting information here though concerning what UHC covers. I've confirmed that my lap band surgeon is not included in either network. Am wondering whether post-surgical fills or follow-up visits will be included? There is no preexisting condition clause so that's not an issue. What I'm especially unclear on is whether the WLS exclusion would also exclude related post-op care. It looks like I should choose the PPO option if I want any portion of visits with my lap band surgeon to be covered at all. Also have an ongoing issue with my port. I'm two months post-op tomorrow and my port is still a constant irritant to me and painful doing almost anything that works my abdomen including bending over, sitting up, etc. It also looks and feels like a large tumor. My surgeon keeps tells me to wait it out and thinks it will get better and be less problematic once I lost more weight (currently 41 pounds down) but I'm not really hopeful. He's said that the only thing we can do to truly resolve it is another surgery. Am now concerned that I need to do that sooner than later if it would be considered WLS to be sure it's covered. Am also wondering though if that surgery should be covered by the surgeon since it's a problem arising from the original banding. I'm unclear on just where to turn to get answers to these questions so am starting here. Thanks.

    Backsliding due to divorce

First....HUUUUUUUUUGGGGG!!! You will get through this. YOU WILL. I did, and so will you. My divorce and the mess leading up to it is a huge factor in my weight gain. Do what you can to avoid this. It will only make you more unhappy, and unhappy with yourself. I don't know what circumstances are leading to the divorce, but mine was messy and I almost ended my life over it. It wasn't until I realized that this IS a new start, and i am no longer controlled/manipulated/emotionally abused by another, unloving person. Set a day that will be your RESTART. Not only should you change your diet that day, but start thinking about yourself differently. You are free to be you, to better you, and to find people who will life you up (and vice versa). But start with YOU. Focus on you and your needs. Don't fuss with the finding a date and such. That will come when you have emotionally healed. If you don't want to go out on a date a friend set you up with, then DON'T. You need to be emotionally ready for dating. So smack a friend if you have to. I did. She finally got the point. Also, you have us to lean on...sort of. Good for you for asking for help and encouragement. Trust me, hiding everything away is not very healthy. So message me if you need to. I'll be here. Take heart. Read my signature, and what Christopher Robin says to Pooh Bear. This truly did help me get through all the pain of my broken marriage and divorce...and another woman who went through the same things gave it to me. It had helped her too.

    Should I be worried?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am measuring my food. I can have potatoes, because I am just coming off the soft food recommendation. I am not stuffing myself, when I am done I don't feel over done, just done. I am not eating til the point that I am in pain, but I can eat more than two bites to be full. I can't say that I felt that long. I will stay that I don't get the full signal as fast as I should. I think that has a lot to do with transitioning from band to sleeve. I will also say that this was not easy for me to share, but I want to get help now. I am not out of control or anything. I haven't gained, but I do have questions. I appreciate everyone that took the time not to just read the comments, but to respond. I am readjusting. I won't say going back to the basics, cause I am still there I am doing Protein first, but I haven't been drinking my protein much these last days. I guess I will continue to work on doing better. I will get the measuring tools out and not just do it all in my mind.

  15. On my cellphone at work so I'm not being detail oriented however I'm doing my diet for aetna requirements and m not losing weight. I'm dieting and eating healthier and learning a ton about eating right but still not dropping weight. I've been thru my first of 3 evaluations because aetna only requires 3 months and I gained 2 lbs. My main question is (ill ask more when I'm not @ work) if I ended up not losing weight that's basically a guaranteed denial from insurance right? If not... are there any ppl out there w/ aetna that got approved w/o actually dropping weight? The thing is I'm not being lazy I am. Eating better and learning tons. Any feedback? Thanks so much iln advance!!!

    3 years later

So it is September 2009 and I have been banded for some time. I lost all the weight I wanted for my wedding and weighed 140 on my wedding day! I got pregnate and gave birth and am now back at 183. I recieved a fill yesterday and had forgotten how miserable it is.
  17. No, That would be way too much to lose in a month. Since the surgery on Jan 30th I lost 23 pounds. I had been yoyoing for decades, always creeping up in the pounds. I started dieting at my highest weight which was at 320 lbs last spring. I plateaued at 271 lbs for 3 months and was starting to creep up. That is when I finally decided to have this tool placed into my body.

"Cardio" setting vs "Fat Burn" setting on elliptical

What is "anaerobic?" I've been using the elliprical for a year now. I complete 60 minutes plus a 5 minute cooldown. I set the settings according to my weight. I then set it on "random," and the level to 10. At the 5, 10, 15 minute intervals, I go in "reverse",and then back forward, and up the level. By the time I'm at 50 minutes, I am at level 20. I'm burning appoximately 770 calories. When I check my heart rate, I am anywhere between 160 - 168. I am 54 years old. Just wanted to know if I should try any other settings or routines.
  19. Hi Everyone, Today I woke up and thought to myself, its my bandiversary!! Yeah! Its hard to believe that it has been one year since I have been banded. For the newbies, the time goes very fast even though the liquid phase feels like it will never end!!! Gosh, where do I start? So many good things have happened to me with -120 pounds lost forever. THese are the highlights: I can run up a flight of stairs without even being slightly out of breath. Last year this time, I could not walk up a flight of steps without stopping 3 or 4 times to catch my breath. It would take me 5-10 minutes for my heart to stop pounding in my chest. I flew two times on an airplane without extenders and even crossed my legs the second trip! I had not flown for several years and would have anxiety attacks and cry before getting on a plane. I am no longer embarrassed when I go to restaurants or food establishments. I can fit in the booths and I no longer measure distances between the seat and the table. When I think of all the time and energy I exerted thinking whether or not I would fit in chairs or booths, it was exhausting. I exercise regularly 3x a week with a personal trainer and do 1 hour of weight lifting, eliptical and circuit training. Who ever thought I would like exercising? I no longer have skin problems, edema from my knees to my ankles, borderline diabetes and hyperinsulinemia and borderline high blood pressure. I rode a horse and he survived! Went from a tight 28 pants and 26 shirts to size 16-18 pants and size 14-16 on top.!! I am now smaller than my husband and at my lightest weight in 18 years! I made dozens of new friends like Donali, Alexandra, Kellymoos, Michelle, Kimberly, Jill S. and so many others here in my local DFW support group, obesity help, smart bandsters, lapband talk and graduate bandsters that it would not be possible to list everyones names. I have never had such a strong support network of people who understand what its like to live as a banded person and the struggles of obesity. FOr all of you and the ones I did not mention, I am eternally grateful for the support, the transition clothing and for the daily pep talks when I had problems or questions. I have decided to modify my goal weight and aim for 168-170. That leaves me 44 pounds to get to a weight I can live with pre- plastic surgery. I know that we dont have this surgery for vanity reason and health is the primary goal, but why not aim for the stars? Thank you everyone for your support. Hugs, Babs in TX 334/214/170 -120 6/23/03

    the aging trade off

I have noticed it too and worry about it lol. I think it is the fat filling in the wrinkles kind of like botox and when the fat is gone, the wrinkles have nowhere to hide. Facial exercises during the weight loss process? Plastic Surgery? Not sure there is much to be done about it. I'll wear my sunglasses and enjoy my body when I get it lol

    I can only imagine!

i always try to imagine myself thin, but i can't cause the last time i was a normal weight was when i was 7. i hope im hot haha.
  22. myfoursons

    I can only imagine!

Does anyone else just sit around and wonder what they will look like when they lose all their weight? I was always thin growing up. I rapidly started gaining weight after I had kids. So, I can kind of imagine what I will look like, but then again I can't. I know what I looked as a thin teenager, but have no idea what I will look like as a thin 30 something yr old mother of four. I can't even imagine what it must be like for those who have been overweight their whole life. Thinking of yourself thin is almost like meeting an acquaintance that you have never met in real life. You have this image of what they will look like in your head, but they may look totally different. For those that already have lost all their weight, are you more shocked at what you used to look like compared to now or more shocked more at what you look like now than what you used to? Hope that question makes sense.
  23. Feeling energized and renewed. I had surgery two years ago and only lost 40 pounds. Having been in an abusive relationship didn't allow me to work on me, now that I am out, I feel like I can finally work on me. Everyone's posts give me inspiration and motivation that I can do this. I recently learned I was banded too tightly and caused my esophagus to dilate and had fluid removed. I am seeing my dr in two days and hope all is well and can get a fill, as I get soooo hungry and have no restriction. Went from .7 to .4, big reduction. Good news is tht though weight loss is slow I have not gained any weight since the surgery. I started walking and jogging 3 miles daily mixed with tae bo, hopefully that will help me along. Having PCOS doesn't help either, but I am happy that I am not where I used to be. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!
  24. i am so disgusted with my insurance company right now. United health care. first of all they were the first ones i called to see if i was a candidate for the surgery, they asked me some questions like what was my BMI, how long had i been over weight. that i had to go to a seminar and join a support group. which i answered yes to all. I did all the things the surgeon had me do. had the chest xray, had my EDG endoscope done. had the pshyc evaluation everything, then the insurance gets all the paper work turned into them at the clinical services area and they deny me because they say that my TSH which is thyroid blood test done. which it was. because when they did the blood test it is right on the Quest diagnostics paper work that was sent back to us. and that i had to show proof that i was in a support group which i did today. i think i am losing what is left of my mine
  25. I have a scale I love: Yunmai Smart Scale But I really want this one, because it's so pretty: Digital Bathroom Scale I don't use all the body measurement features all that much and I rarely sync my smart scale up to my phone since I use other apps to track both food and weight. Plus - This is an important lesson to learn - If you are the type of person that likes to take pictures of your scale for social media purposes (or this board), note that the smart scale I posted above is REALLY shiny. And if you're a person that likes to take pictures of your scale while standing on it naked, your nakedness will be reflected in the shiny scale and thus on your social media page. (Not that I have any experience with that or anything)
