    Dehydration?

I had trouble getting even half the required water too. After two sips my stomach needed to wait a long time. It just didn't work. Four weeks out, I'm still not getting enough oz of water per set so I count my veg juice and my protein drinks - probably cheating. For the first three weeks, I went to a little natural MD and got a vitamin and mineral infused IV. I always felt much better after it. I'd suggest it and maybe your doc will even prescribe it, though you don't need a prescription if you are cash pay.

    Post-OP

Well had my surgery today at 10, was home by 2! I really don't remember much, every one was very nice and I never felt nervous or the "what have I gotten myself into's" Not a whole lot of gas or pressure pains that I was expecting, I feel like I have had a c-section tho! My pain meds are keeping it at bay tho. I had a bout of hiccups that about put me under, but they quickly passed... Im surprised about the fact that I cant tell the band is there, I was afraid to swallow, I didn't want to feel that restriction right off, and so far I havent! Drinking 6 oz of watered down juice every hour as per dr.'s order along w/some other clear liquids for the week, then back to protien shakes..!! Whoo whoo!

    Painkillers

I had IV dilaudid via the PCA pump in the hospital. It made me nauseous though, so I stopped pushing my button for it at about 3am the night after surgery. Once I passed my leak test the next day, they gave me the liquid lortab, which worked fine. Then they sent me home with vicodin pills, which I took once or twice a day for the first week. I bought liquid tylenol on the way home from the hospital, and mostly used that. When I first met with my surgeon, I had to sign something saying that I understood that he would only prescribe pain medications for the first 30 days after the surgery. I'm amazed that some people needed them for that long, because I really had no pain after the first week. All I've used for pain control since surgery, for headaches, sore muscles, cramps, etc. is Arnica. I used to need to pop 3 or 4 Aleve a day during my cycle, but haven't had a bad one since surgery. Fingers crossed that the weight loss has somehow helped that too!

    Got My Surgery Date Today

The pre-op diet is optional, so I'm planning on one week of Protein drink for lunch and a light supper. Next Tuesday I see the surgeon and nutritionist for my pre-op visit, then I'm good to go. I'm more anxious about the weather turning bad than I am about surgery.

    sooo sad and angry

I saw my counsellor yesterday and she has asked me to keep a record of all my feelings as i go through this hard time......So I decided this would be the best place to do it......This is what actually happened to me on the 16th of Feb. I am a mental health disability respite Team leader. I had a client snap 2 times the first I only got kicked 2 times in the stomach, the next week after having three days off I was assured that strategies and protection would be put in place for me BOY was I wrong. Within 20 mins of starting work I was attacked for 45mins by a lady who was like an animal...I don't wish to be cruel but I cant explain it any other way. I was kicked 8 times between my breast bone and pelvic bone leaving bruises and big as youe hand held wide open, I had bruises on my arms and I have a broken wrist in 3 places and tendon, ligament and nerve damage. Now I have my slipped band. Emotionally this has been hell coming to terms with an assault, not working, being hurt so bad and a work place that did nothing to protect me. I am hurting both physically and emotionally and my main emotion is anger and fear at another surgery that easnt necessary:frown:
  8. Are they gonna cancel my surgery????? I don't have a fever anymore! I haven't had one for like 4 days, I'm just still kinda congested and stuffy that's it. Is that enough for them to cancel my surgery?? I'm so scared )):

    Herbals After Bypass

Hi Marie, I actually just posted about this! I am only 8 weeks out and I had an edible on vacation. It was kind of nuts for me. I felt it intensely. I didn't really like it and I had a small piece. But for reference, I don't really take edibles often. I ate a lot and slept a lot on them. I feel like if I took them often it would definitely slow my progress.

    Newbie who needs advice.

I'm not sure if you're asking if it's ok to skip the puree phase. A lot of people on here will read you the riot act about following your surgeon's instructions. Yes this is important. Everyone's plan is a little different. There are some people that are started on purees almost immediately. Some people are on clears for a week and advance slower. What do you mean about emotional attachments to foods, and how does that relate to your post op plan? Not sure what you're looking for here, but be safe and careful!

    Dr. Gorecki

It took less than a week for my paperwork to be approved once his office manager submitted. I'm sure that depends more on your insurer than anything else.
  12. Nausea is normal post WLS, my surgeon sent me home with anti nausea medication. I didn't need them. The pain from the incision that your stomach came out is also normal. It will eventually go away. I slept in my recliner for a week because of it.

    I want a scrambled egg!

I ate a soft scrambled egg with a little bit of grits on week 4. I know I wasn't supposed to do it but it didn't bother me at all. I mixed some southwestern egg beaters and instant grits together in a blender, poured about a coffee cup full, sat the cup on my coffee cup warmer and ate about 1/2 of it in about an hours time. Hope this helps!! Good luck!

Water are crystal light are my staples, I am 8 weeks out now and I drink skim milk at least 16 ounces a day it boosts my protein. G2 and powerade occasionally but they are more expensive than the crystal light.
  16. thank yall so much for your answers..i feel better just hearing from other people and having my feeling validated!!!i dread life right after surgery but i'm a strong woman and i've been thru so much already in my life so i know i can get thru this and be happy on the other side.. I had back surgery in may and recovered as much as expected considering i have other herniated and bulging discs (another side effect of obesity) and i know in my heart that if i dont get a significant amount of weight off and keep it off forever than another back surgery will probably happen. not to mention my high bp which i have to take 2 meds for and pre diabetes. I have to have this surgery. I'll be sleeved this time next week..omg.. i still can't believe this!!!the future is bright

    Discomfort

I was banded 4 weeks ago. I have 3 small incisions, left, center and right, with a larger center incision where the port was inserted. My port is on the right. Everything is well healed, but the incision on the left, is still sore when I rub my finger on it. Don't know what they did on that side, but it seems as though that wound is deep.

    First meal....

I can't remember from your previous posts, but are you on a PPI like Nexium, Prilosec, Protonix? Eating really sucks, especially after complications. I always felt like eating was stressful which in turn made my stomach tighter for whatever reason. Have you tried warm fluids like warm decaf tea the Celestial seasonings makes a peppermint tea that and a chamomile tea that totally rocked for me, I felt so wonderful drinking those. And, when my hydration levels were getting compromised, I said "screw the calories/sugar, I need fluid" and I drank regular gatorade. If I was dehydrated, and my body was struggling to function, a few calories/sugar wasn't going to hinder my weight loss, and honestly, after my complications, I didn't give 2 poops about carbs/sugar that first couple of weeks, I needed fluids. Warm fluids seemed to relax my stomach, soothing, but the warmth really helped and still do this at 2 years out. I still order hot tea or coffee before a meal. I hope the next few days are easier.
  19. Does any one know if our stomaches can hold only the same amount of liquid (soup) as food (cream of wheat)??? Seems I can eat more soup before I feel full.

  22. So I got worried over the last two weeks because I was barely able to eat solid foods. I am 15 weeks out now (3.5mos). It would take 20 minutes or so to get in 1-1.5oz of Protein (chicken, scallop, shrimp, etc) and I got the "full" signal. Most days, I barely hit 500 calories. Then, in the last two days I feel more hungry than usual. And I have been able to eat larger meals with no problem. In fact, if I wasn't listening to my full signal, I'd eat more. It's as though I'm eating more easily. Last night I had 3oz of meat (mix pork chop and filet mignon leftovers), plus some veggies. Went down easy and in under 30 minutes. Tonight we made soft tacos for the first time since surgery b/c my husband was craving them. I made mine with 2oz ground lean meat and limited toppings more tostada style. No rice allowed and only 1tbsp pinto Beans - and no frying of the shell, just a nice pan reheat, no oil. I was expecting to eat it tostada style, but found myself trying the soft taco shell (a low carb option). To my amazement I was able to eat one whole taco, small bites, putting down the taco b/n bites and eating over about 20 minutes. I tallied everything and it came to 297 calories, 13g protein, and only 15 carbs. But it was more than I've eaten in a single meal in WEEKS, and so easily with no pain at all. I was still under 700 calories for the day, 110g of protein, 30 carbs total and 20g fat. I also drank 80oz of Water and went on a 1.5 hour grueling 9 mile mountain bike ride. The only things I can tie it to is that I hit ovulated a few days ago and I know the hormones spike in the days/week after that. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hematoma at site of port removal

I had a hard spot the size of a golf ball at that site. It didn't hurt or bother me. My doctor said it might drain out the inscision site next to it. It didn't, and I think it was gone at two weeks out. Good luck.
  24. I am 5 weeks post op and starting to feel really good about myself again. I 24. As a young woman, I always had curves but they were all in the right places but about 10 yrs ago, it became harder and harder to loose weight and the old tricks(including diet pills) became less effective. About 4 yrs ago I was diagnosed with a begin pituitary tumor which caused my body to produce excess amounts of prolactin(hyperolactinemia). Essentially your body thinks your pregnant. Even though the condition became controlled with medicine. Losing weight remained an issue and I slowly creeped up from 185 to 214over 4 years and just couldnt get out of the 200s. Fast forward to today, I'm down 18 pounds post op and starting to notice results. I attended an anniversary party yesterday and was able to wear a medium. I bought the same dress earlier this summer but needed an extra large. And at the dinner and in general I'm able to skip past the rice, pasta and potatoes and make those healthy choices of baked chicken or fish and veggies and salads etc. And its not hard; it has become a way of life for me that I have been able to embrace. So excited about what my new weight lose journey will bring! I know it will take time but I really feel like I can do it[emoji5] Sleeved 8/10/17 HT: 5'2 HW: 214 SW: 212 CW: 194 Goal: 155

    Returning to work!?!?

I had surgery on Friday and was at work again on Tuesday. The pain was not bad at all, but I was really tired more than anything else. I felt like I could have laid my head on my desk and slept for an hour or two which is very unusual. A couple of days later and I felt fine. I have an office job so it wasnt a big deal, but everyone heals a little differently and has different tolerance levels. A week is a safe bet for anyone. If you do go back in less than a week, it would be better to have shorter days or at least the option to go home if you are not feeling up to snuff.
