January surgeries?!
Oregonway replied to jessicaalyssa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date has finally been set to Jan 28th 2019. I signed up September 2017. Ya.. tell me about it. It's been a long awaiting time. They kept pushing me back .. pushing me back.. darn cpap issues. They said I was not wearing it enough. So if you use a CPAP- wear it. Now after getting my surgery date and getting insurance to accept it .. my insurance has closed the account because the surgeon never signed the paper work. Errrggg. one thing after another. Every time I think I got it.. it just gets pushed back more. Am I excited, yes, its always on my mind now. But the question is.. will it happen? -

I signed up for classes this semester and I was wondering if anyone else is attending the Spring 2019 Semester? I am working towards a degree in Radiology; I have a very high interest in the medical field and I worked on pinpointing exactly what I wanted to do. So Radiology it is! I have a very dense class coming up, A&P I (Human Anatomy and Physiology I) so I am a little nervous. I am still suffering from mild to moderate fatigue, so I am hoping I can juggle work and school. But let us use this as a place to rant and vent about school!

Almost 10 weeks post-op and exactly 30 pounds down from surgery day and 40 down from pre-op. I am really grateful to every single person that was a part of this process and couldn’t be happier with my progress. I lnow some of us lose faster than others but we all must be very proud of how far we’ve come and how far we’ll get! Enjoy your weekend 😊

I don’t feel much different!
Wickedwinner replied to KatiT47's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same for me. Was sleeved 12/14 and I don’t feel much difference. I can drink no problem, and I mean big gulps! I’m hungry all the time. Not the old hungry, but a not real satisfied hungry. I eat something every two hours. About 1/2 cup to a cup. I’m never overly full. It’s hard to explain. I tolerate everything I’ve tried so far. Haven’t lost that much either. I had lost 10 pounds at my one week appt but have only lost 2-4 since then. I try not to weigh often as to not get discouraged. Waiting for this restriction to kick into high gear! Advice for a supportive yet high anxiety spouse
Orchids&Dragons replied to mzliz731's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
My hubby is also the Nervous Nelly of our house. Remind yours that you've both been through this type of surgery before. Try to get him to focus on the future, not the present. What the two of you will be doing in a year, in 5 years, in 10 years. How does that future look without the surgery? Best of luck with your surgery! -
And @ pink sparkle 1965 have a fantabulous 2019! You will never by a sour lemon drop as long as you are a Pink Starburst!

Dress shirts that are long enough to go over stomach and not come out of pants
BlueCrush replied to jmabry's topic in The Guys’ Room
If you have a Dillard's near you, they sell them up to 37/38 lengths with still a size 19 or 20 neck (look in the big and tall section). So does does Destination XL (DXL). You can also find LT, 1XT, 2XT, and 3XT sizes at Dillard's in their big and tall section. -
I had my surgery 12/10/2018. I'm new to the forum thing. I had to visit the doctor 6 consecutive months for weigh-ins and to turn my food diary. Does anyone know of a good protein powder? Also is anyone else having pain in your lower abdomen around the belly button and also under your ribs in upper abdomen?

Dress shirts that are long enough to go over stomach and not come out of pants
jmabry posted a topic in The Guys’ Room
I have to wear a suit soon. My shirt fits in neck and arms. It is a little small but manageable around waist but the length is too short. I have a 19 34/35 and 20 34/35 that fit but the length is too short. Does anyone know if you can buy shirts that are longer without going to large in other parts of the shirt? I was going to try big and tall xl store. Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Tips for Stopping Caffiene
Recidivist replied to Kmartin6168's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have a six Diet Cokes a day habit, and I think that might be harder for me to quit than some of my favorite foods! I have gastric bypass in February 2019 and am hoping to taper off slowly until then. -
I wasn't nervous about my surgery until I found this site
Recidivist replied to MikeIL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MikeII, I understand what you are saying--I had certainly not heard about many of the issues that can arise after surgery. (My gastric bypass is scheduled for February 2019.) However, it hasn't caused me to have any doubts. I'm grateful I've found this forum because it will make me better informed about the process and I can hopefully avoid some problems as a result. It's also incredibly reassuring to know that so many people have been through this and are doing well, in spite of a few bumps in the road. I no longer feel so alone! -
If you had to have an "excuse surgery" ....
Recidivist replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have bypass surgery in February 2019 and have been wondering the exact same thing! My family and close friends know what I'm doing, but my issue is work colleagues. I have told my supervisor that I will need two weeks off for surgery. She didn't ask for details, but I have no doubt colleagues will once I get back--and I do not want to share it with them. -
I'm a newbie here with bypass surgery scheduled for February 2019. Like many of you, I've never been big on exercise, and I know that will become a big part of my life post-surgery. I can definitely commit to walking every day, but I can't see myself going to the gym. Would a brisk walk every day be enough, or is it going to slow my weight loss? I'd appreciate insight from those on the other side!

@johnson My kids eat junk food all of the time. Cake, cookies, you name it. They can do that and burn it off and get away with it. So I’m not Scrooge. They deserve to enjoy the gift of a youthful metabolism. :) I exercise pretty hard. Five days of weight lifting alternating two ways: upper body then legs. Then I alternate by lifting heavy then light. I do seven days of walking between 15-20k steps. I hit stalls along the way too and how I shortened them was to actually eat more. Anytime I stalled more than a week I’d up my calories 200 and protein by 10. At this point I am eating 2200 calories and 190 protein a day. But my resting BMR at my goal weight will be 2400. So 2200 calories is about where I should be since I am 31 lbs from my goal weight. I want to be at 2400 calories by then and just stick there.

I have been thinking about surgery for years and keep second-guessing myself. Everyone around me says that I just need to "try harder," but I'm the one who has been yo-yo dieting for decades and always gaining the weight back. Unless you have struggled with weight issues yourself, you can't understand what it's like. I finally pulled the trigger and am having gastric bypass in February 2019, and I'm going through with it this time. This is for me, my health and my future, and I don't care what anyone else thinks.
