I don't lift heavy weights. I lift manageable weights with high repetitions until failure. Whatever muscle group I'm working, I give it 48hrs before I work that muscle group again.

I just spent 2 weeks at Walt Disney World, go home tomorrow. I’m only 4 months out, so the restriction definitely kept things in check. But I did try various things while still focusing on protein. Some foods “sit” heavy, but I did not have any reactions overall to the different foods. I’m sure the scale will show an increase Monday, water weight due to eating carbs & the humidity. But, I’m hoping for a drop the following week because I did a tonne of walking that more than counteracted the food I ate. (I still tracked best I could - mainly to keep on top of protein intake)

The weights can help tone some areas up along the cardio. Hit those weights!

I had only one problem area with loose skin with all my weight loss. The lower abdomen area and it's not going anywhere unless I have surgery to remove it.

A stall is very common between 3-5 weeks out. If you search this site there are more than 17,000 posts about the “three week stall”. Just stick to your plan and let your body sort itself out. The weight loss will continue. -

Water is predominately absorbed in your intestines not your tummy. Because water is absorbed not digested like food, you don’t have the same possible issues with malabsorption of nutrients from poorly digested foods after weight loss surgery. The sipping continuously vs gulping down glassful at a time is a new mind set. Plus at the early stages, you can be a little wary to drink in case you feel discomfort or your not really hungry & you don’t feel like drinking either. And the taste of water can be a little blah or it can feel almost heavy to drink. Remember, all fluids count: your shakes, broths, tea, etc. as well as water. We should always have been drinking 64ounces or 2litres of water a day but many didn’t so suddenly having to do so can be challenging. @Lisa LoVuolo could you update your profile with your surgery date, height, starting weight, type of surgery, etc. it helps others to offer more appropriate help & suggestions if we know how far a long you are, your type of surgery, etc.

Great job! Your such a inspiration! I need to find that motivation. I am all about being active and love anything cardio, but weights, even the 5lb ones are dreadful lol!

...muscle weight that is. I'm in the gym 6 days a week. I decided to bulk up because wasn't happy with being slim and slender. I went from 175 to 205 and haven't went up in clothing size. This is the same shirt in both pictures. I love filling out my shirts now..lol.

I don’t think it’s from the weight loss but I got dehydrated quick right after my surgery. I had to go back to the hospital as an out patient to get fluids one time just a few days out.
-
Yes, but it's not from the weight loss, it's usually directly after surgery when we are getting used to our new plumbing. It can be hard to get enough liquid if you're having to take tiny little sips. Try to make sure you are meeting your surgeon's fluid intake (and remember that it's not just water, any liquid including Jell-O counts). You might have to carry a bottle of water and remind yourself to take sips.

2 Months post op… suddenly not being able to eat

When you say you regret it, what do you mean? Do you have nausea or vomiting? Diarrhea? Or emotional symptoms like anxiety that you will gain weight, or physical symptoms like shakiness? -
NSV: Blood pressure medication
Charlie C replied to vikingbeast's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was also able to get off my blood pressure medication. I was taking 50mg of Metoprolol daily for the past 20+ years. About two months in, I had lost so much weight that my blood pressure and heart rate were getting so low that I'd be dizzy upon standing. My blood pressure is now normally in the 115/65-70 range. -
Cranky, and irritable with my spouse
pintsizedmallrat replied to Holodisplay's topic in Rants & Raves
I'm going through a version of this with my "better half"--he was originally planning to have the same surgery after we get married next year and he can be on my much-better insurance. After seeing what I've gone through the last 3 weeks, he has decided it's not for him. He is 6' tall and about 290, and even after me losing 32 pounds already my BMI is still 2 points higher than his. He has a LOT less weight to lose to be comfortable with himself (he has a very broad build and quite a bit of muscle, and feels he would look best around 230) than I do, and I keep telling him that once my diet expands to a point where I can cook for both of us again, the weight will likely come off on its own because of the reduced portion sizes. I've been cranky a lot lately because I can't seem to get anything down--I'm on week 2 of purees and I am so sick of yogurt and shakes, and try as I might unless I'm really forcing myself to eat I seem to keep ending up falling short of my protein goals and am eating way too few calories. He's been very patient with me but anyone would be frustrated by that. -
I had surgery 7 months ago, as well and I’ve been in a stall for 6 weeks! I get pretty frustrated but have to remember to stick to the plan! I know if I do that then the weight will start to come off again. I’ve lost 80 lbs so far and I have about 35 to go to hit my goal. I can see that tiny light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there! You can do this!!! You’re doing great!💕

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
KarmaNina replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my Interstim (bladder pacemaker) removed yesterday. Most all of my weight was in my belly and breasts, by losing the weight my urgency is manageable. Not to mention the Interstim was becoming painful due to the weight loss when sitting down. I would do the gastric bypass again, no doubt! I should have done it earlier. ☺️ -
When I was still in the weight loss phase, I had what I called "munchie" days, when I was hungry all day long. I learned not to fight it, but to make sure I ate nutritious, high protein food and not junk. If I ate something and then an hour later I was hungry, I'd eat something else but it had to be something on-plan. I found those days were offset by an equal number of days when I had very little appetite and ate super-lightly. The good thing about munchie days is that they were often followed by a nice drop in weight. I have no idea how that works, but I observed that to be the case.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It sounds like your surgical team definitely failed you. The surgery does change your relationship with food forever. While your surgeon may have overstated things by saying the effects of the surgery only last 18 months, it is true that over time your sleeve will be less intrusive. The restriction eases somewhat and you get to the point where you can eat a small but regular-sized meal with no problem. I'm 2 and 1/2 years out from surgery and I don't have to take tiny bites or sips anymore. As far as eating "normally", that's not something most bariatric patients aspire to because that's what got us obese in the first place. If you really did go back to eating exactly how you did before, you'd simply gain all the weight back. My program had so many educational requirements that it got irritating, but I can see from your story why they are necessary. I hope you find some peace, particularly as time passes and your sleeve matures. God bless!

Fluctuation and sudden weight gain
catwoman7 replied to onmyway11's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I agree with lizonaplane - that's a small enough gain that it could be normal fluctuation or a trend...hard to tell at this point. However, you're at a point post-op where many of us do tend to see a 10-20 lb rebound from our lowest weight. If you want to stay in the low 140s, then set a drop-dead weight ceiling and when you hit that, it's all hands on deck until you get back into your comfort range. But with that slight gain you're seeing now, that could also just be normal fluctuation. Give it another couple weeks and see what happens. -
What is your height, pre surgery weight and your 6 month post op weight?

To those who had a very easy recovery...
AngieL11282 replied to AngieL11282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled for about 10 days (2.5-3.5 weeks post op) but now I am losing again. From what I've read it seems that stalls are very common and completely normal. Just keep working the plan and the weight will come off! We didn't gain it overnight so I think patience and persistence is going to be key to long term success! 🙂 -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Luna Girl replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not sure what to think about this but before WLS, my eyelids were always puffy and I thought maybe someday, I would get an eye lift to open up my eyes more. 71lbs later, my eye lids are no longer puffy and my eyes look open and bright! Lashes are easy to curl and makeup goes on with no issues!! Guess if our feet can lose weight, so can our eye lids!! 😁 -
I am 19 months post op from DS surgery. I’m SO happy with my weight loss. I’ve been fluctuating between 140-144 for a while now (months) this week out of the blue with no change in my diet (which could definitely be better) or exercise (which is always good) I’m up to 145 146 148. Should I be worried this is a wall I’m hitting? Wil I be 175 by the end of the year? Not that I’m emotionally scared from my pre surgey life or anything ha! Or is this just normal and keep on truckin’ and expect to be back in the 140-144 zone in a week or so. Argh so nerve wracking!
