I was VERY VERY tired and weak...... unfortunately I ended up having a GI bleed in my 2nd week out from surgery. I think because of that I was my exhaustion was magnified. I'm one month out today and feel a lot better - each day my energy is markedly increased !!! Hang in there

I walked my dogs the day of surgery. I live alone so basically no choice but I was fine with it. My dogs are like 20 lb and 8 lb. I was lifting 20 lb dogs a week after surgery and back at work. I would not think there is a wait on when you could walk a dog especially a 15 lb dog.

I'm rarely hungry. I eat or drink protein a few times a day. Solids are still difficult for me over 7 weeks post op. I'll see my dietitian tomorrow and will ask her about my challenges. By the way, check out my Facebook blog at "200lb March". I'm documenting my journey there.

make sure with your dr that you're supposed to be released to soft foods... becasue my dr was very strict about doing liquids for the first 2 weeks to make sure the stitching around the band healed completely before sending food down through there. i know some others are given only a few days of liquids. so i would make sure you dont have have to do at least a couple days of liquids... especially those first few days cause you're so swollen around the stomach. it might be easier for you!

I started doing all my pre-op doctor appointments in March 2014. I had Cardiologist, Endoscopy, sleep study and Psychological visits all done in 3 1/2 months. The only problem found from all appoinments at that time was a mild case of sleep apnea and they discovered a few PVC's while I slept during the study. So went back to cardiologist and he put me on a Holter moniter for 21 days. On the the 16th day doctor called me in for immediate visit with some new results from the moniter. The night before he saw A-Fib not PVC's which has resulted in having to take Eliquis, Flecainide, and Beta Blocker meds. Also I just had an Eco Cardiogram which results were fine. So at this point feeling a little discouraged because my surgery should have been in next few weeks. I do understand thats why they do all these different doctor visits/tests so there's no surprises during surgery and beyond. Basically I was wondering has anyone else had this type of delay and how long did it take for surgery clearance from cardiologist and Bariatric Surgeon. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Wow. Arm pits are actually that--pits!! They are actually concave, they dip inward, not poofed outward. LOL. When applying deodorant this morning, I said well, look at that. It's amazing what near-40 pounds will show you. Plus I see my clavicles (collar bones), etc. BUT... What I've called "back titties": Mine have gotten a lot smaller; they're more like collapsed sacks now. And they've never been literally on my back. They are more like 'saddle bags' that overhang the side of bras; like a smaller boob behind the main attraction. [Do you know what I'm talking about?] I hate these areas. Anyone with advice about these saddle bags? Did they flatten out for anyone after losing 50-100 pounds? [i'm stalled at just under 40 pounds, but, just thinking ahead.] Thanks.

This is a very scary journey for most of people, a big step out. -
Should I get banded before or after my 14 weeks in India (volunteering & backpackin)
annab1984 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello. I have decided to get a gastric band and being impatient I want it asap! I am going to India on 6th June and would love to have it done between now and then. I have email the surgeon about this issue and am awaiting a reply (only sent tonight though). What are your experiences? Should I wait until I return or will it make little difference. I really would love to get it done before I go so that I can come back and wow!! I have looked at a few private clinics in New Delhi incase there were to be any complications and they do look very clean and I am confident in them. Am I likely to have any complications? I would hope to be banded April so would have approx 2 months or slightly less to become used to it. Thank you all Anna xxx -

Backpacking and such right after surgery, or even for the first 4 weeks after, may be a bad idea. I was restricted on what I was allowed to lift. -
Pre op diet starts today!
JeansBeans replied to JessicaAnn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The other thing to remind yourself is that staying on the pre-op diet and following it strictly will make your surgery and recovery better. It's helping 'shrink' your liver which helps the surgeon have better access to your stomach;) YOU CAN DO IT! Mind over matter! I can say this because I haven't done mine yet-Ha! I believe you can do it! It's only 2 weeks of the 52 in the year! Remind me of these things when I am on my pre-op -
I am starting the process myself. Tried to last year. Insurance would not cover it, but I knew with the Company merger we would be getting a better package. Just sent an inquiry to the Insurance compnay last week. My father felt the same way. Very concerned about the surgery. The problem is he knew of 2 friends that had pretty serious complications with Gastric Bypass. I educated him on some information on the lap band and that really seemed to help. You may ask your family to log in on this web site to hear all of the sucess stories too. Most people are fearful of the unknown. Give them some references so they know it will be the best thing for you. I know when those results start kicking in, they will be so proud of you. Stick to you guns my dear. All will be wonderful!:clap2: Sincerely, Heather

What food stage are you at? When I was at 2 weeks, I was moving to mushies. I ate a lot of Protein -- Beans, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs -- and that helps stem the hunger. My surgeon has you do 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks mushies, then introducing solids. If you don't have to be on liquids at this point, move to the next stage. I never felt very full with shakes. I only got through the pre-op diet with sheer will power. If you need food ideas, look at the recipe section of this site and there are good recommendations. My personal mushy-stage favorite was fat-free refried beans with taco sauce and low-fat cheese, melted. Sometimes I added a scrambled egg for a fake huevos rancheros. Good luck to you!

My pain was not located specifically at the port necessarily. My erosion wasn't at the port either. Mine was my actual band that had eroded my stomach. This caused a major infection. The pain was the infection. To be honest I couldn't really distinguish other than to say it hurt very much in my abdomen and it came in fast. I ended up having my band removed via an emergency surgery the day after I went to the ER. Just FYI in case it's useful, I was banded in Sept 2010. My start weight was 330. Lost 130lbs in approx 10 months. I remained stable until erosion (Sept 2012) and for another three years after that. Following a significant life change I've regained around 60lbs in the last 12-16 months. I'm currently at day 5 of my pre-op for a VSG I'm having on Aug 25. Everyone's experience is different but for me the band worked very well. Without it I succeeded for a while but eventually had issues keeping things in line. I'm confident the sleeve will help me succeed once again. I hope this contextual information can be helpful. Any questions or anything just let me know. All the best AS

I was Banded in Mexico Nov 19th

Welcome to LapBandTalk! I think for the salad, every doc has a different rule. Mine said once I was on regular food to eat anything I could tolerate. I had lettuce at 7 weeks. But he also said that for most people, salad would be eaten at the 2-3 mark. -
I'm 8 weeks out and still not hitting mine either. My biggest issue is fluids. I can't stand the taste of anything with artificial sweetner, which is a post surgery thing for me. And I have always hated water!

Help please! So many questions - lots of pain and confusion
Pescador replied to rolosmom7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe your prescriber of mental heal meds could guide you a little? Also, I could not talk to my surgeons nurse after surgery when I had panic over some very toxic gout meds, and only after I demanded to talk to the surgeon did his "not there" nurse miraculously pick up the phone. I tend to think for the first couple of weeks they know people panic and call them, but trust your gut instinct when you have a problem and know when to seek medical attention, such as going to the ER. I think you might settle down a bit, and hope the nausea goes away. Do the best you can but try to talk to someone before the weekend. Good luck girl! -

DS-ers! Question about food intake!
rargirl replied to KWeilbrenner09's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I am almost 6 months post op. My initial pouch was 4 oz. I was a little bit of a different case because I had a leak complication with my surgery which prevented me from being able to eat or drink at all for the first 5 weeks. At 5 weeks, when the leak was healed, I could eat one hard boiled egg. Today, I could probably eat two hard boiled eggs and two pieces of bacon. When I eat out with my friends/family, I tend to eat 1/2 to 1/3 of the portion I am served. I eat kind of like those teeny tiny skinny ladies who seem to barely eat... and you always wonder if they feel constantly starved...only it is not miserable. You feel just fine/full. At first, be prepared for waiters to ask you if "everything is ok" and you like your food (because you ate so little of it). -

Long story short - my stinking drains are coming out on there own. The actual white part of the drain is exposed in both drain exits and the suction is gone from my drain bulbs. Of course the wound around the drain is leaking now since the bulbs cant do there job. Ive had these drains in for 3 weeks now and I honestly don't think I can take it anymore. I have to drive 1 1/2 hours to my doctor tommorow so he can do whatever he decides to do. I hope he takes them out, but Im still draining over 100cc per day in each drain. I think I might beg him to just take them out and take the gamble with the fluid buildup. Its been 3 stinking weeks. I honestly just want to cry. Im not in pain - im just sooooooo frustrated. I almost want to rip these stinking things out myself right now!!!!!!!!!!! Wish me luck - Gonna see the doc in the morning.
