Aha.. dehydration. No fun:( Do you think you were filled too much, and not able to get enough fluids in? Or maybe you got a bug or something? 4 bags of fluid seems like a ton, you must've been feeling pretty icky! I still have soreness around my port. Dr. Trieu seems to think from what I explain that it's just the muscle where it's attached being tugged at? He said he's not worried unless it's really bothersome, then we need to think about a port revision.. It's not horrible pain, just more uncomfortable, and I know it's there when moving around. I think my band is too tight, and I'm hoping I don't get dehydrated.. Friday night I had water stuck?? It was the same lodged feeling,, sliming, and serious sharp pains in my chest. Ugh. It's hard to get fluids down, they seem to sink like a rock, and I can feel as it trickles through. The nurse said to stay on liquids until today, so I have. I did try spaghetti sauce and ricotta last night and I was stuck again.. The nurse said think of yogurt or pudding consistency as liquids, and I thought that would count, but I guess I can't handle it? Ugh I just want real food. It's been since Thursday, and I'm really over it. I'm going to try the ricotta thing again tonight and see how it goes. I hope the swelling has gone down, because I really don't want an unfill. Well enough complaining for now.. How did the wedding go? Did you save me a piece of that cake? lol Just kiddinggggg... Unless of course it's pureed:) Hope all is well:) ~Kerri
  2. It's interesting that someone said I am "new". I was on this board back in 2003 before it was purchased and moderated by who ever does it now. I am anything but new, folks. I'm glad the band is working for some of you. Just be ready when the time comes when you vomit in your sleep and wake up choking; the band stops working and all of a sudden you can eat like a horse; it slips or erodes; or worse, it causes long-term damage. When I went to in to see my surgeon a year ago, he told me that I was the last person that he banded (I was a part of the clinical trial for the SAGB) that still had my band in. Everyone else had revised. I feel great compassion for those of you that are fighting this information. I know it is scary and you might think that I am not being honest. I replied to a post from someone considering the surgery with my opinion and my experience.

    Tanning Beds

Well... I am a revision from a lap band but with my lap band I put band aids over my incision sites and started tanning about 2 weeks out. The look on my surgeons face at my one month post op appointment was PRICELESS! He said "we'll this is a first" but he reassured me that it was just fine. I say cover up the incision sites and enjoy. I love the feel of a tanning bed!
  4. Back in 2010-2011 I was denied twice for my band. Lindstrom helped with my appeals and I was finally approved. Just got my approval for revision without assistance which was shocking to me but I'm forever grateful for Lindstrom for their help back then.
  5. Happy Sunday! So yesterday was a great day, I ended up going shopping for a bit and then went out to dinner. I sat on the couch for a couple hours and chatted with friends. It was awesome. I woke up today feeling great and cleaned the kitchen and bathroom and exhausted myself. No going out today. My hubby has been shampooing our basement carpets today so I have been watching TV for the past couple of hours. Well my body is feeling awesome but so very weird. I have alot of the creepy crawly feelings which my hubby thinks is nerves reawakening. My scars are all really looking great. On my tummy scar though on the farthest spot on my right the skin is puckered alot. When I get my thigh lift I will get a revision there. My breast are still extremely swollen and hard. They kind of feel like when I had my babies and my milk came in. REALLY ENGORGED. We tried to find a bra but to no avail. I couldn't find anything without underwire in my size. I haven't taken pain meds, not even tylenol in 2 days. I know for sure when the drains come out I will be my old self. I can hardly wait for the rest of the swelling to go down so I can shop! I have lost weight every single day since surgery. I am glad I got that little bit of an unfill but not a total unfill. I can eat but still have restriction. My hubby is getting worried about my weight so he made me drink an eggnog shake today lol. I know it will all work out in the end. I can hardly wait to start excercizing. I have so much motivation right now. I want to tone my legs as much as possible before my thigh lift to get optimal results. I will be taking pics friday when I can put on some panties. I will post as soon as they upload lol. I have been putting up pics in my private album. Well, I am off to check on my hubby. Have a great Sunday evening!
  6. Wow, I went to the mall, bought a new outfit at NY & CO then went and looked around victoria's secret then went to Target. All in all I was gone for only 2 hours but jeez I was exhausted. Oh I did stop by wendy's and got that damn cheeseburger. GAHH. I got home ate and crashed. I woke up 2 hours later. Whew. I think I bit off a little to much. Just because I feel good doesn't mean I can go gallavanting. lol. I noticed today that my left nipple is a little lower than it was before the popping I felt. It's very slight but before my nipples were exactly even now the left is just a tiny bit lower. I am hoping when I go for my thigh lift it can be revised. If not it's not like it's a big difference at all. I hope everyone has a wonderful evening!!

    Help!!! Acid Reflux After Fill

Thank you! I've been fortunate. My band works as advertised. Mainly you need to watch what you eat (sucks, yes) until you see if you can find the green zone. If my band started giving me problems, I'd be looking at revision.

    2 Week pre-op diet

When I had my band I had to follow the sugar busters plan. It was a high Protein low carb diet but food was allowed. Now that I'm getting ready for a revision to a DS I'm on one week of two shakes a day, two snack bars a day, and one lean protein with veggies meal per day. Next week is five shakes per day. Total of two week pre-op diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Revision... Aetna

Hi@Ndonato! Are they making you meet the requirements as if this is your first surgery? Because the Insurance coordinator at my surgeons office tried to tell me I had to start all over and she was very wrong!!! Aetna revision surgery requirements are different then the requirements to get the first bariatric surgery. If have GERD and a "deformed fundus" and a hernia. But in order to get a revision with Aetna, your first surgery had to have be "medically necessary". I got my sleeve done in Mexico in 2014 because back then, I went through the requirements process and was denied by Cigna Medical. So now my fight with my current surgeons office is "medically necessary" to WHO?!...the insurance company or the doctor?!?

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC

Hello all, So I found out today that I can't get on my husband's insurance without a qualifying event... so I am going self pay. Mexico looks like a good option, looking at Dr. Elias Ortiz and A Lighter Me. I have already found some threads on the topic, but wondering if anyone has had band to sleeve revision with Dr. Ortiz and what were your experiences, cost for the revision, etc. Thanks! Meredith
  12. There is an article in Newsweek, July 25, 2011 issue called 15 Leaders in Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Ortiz appeared to me to have the most experience of all of them! Because I did consider staying in the states and getting my revision from band to sleeve and use my health insurance. In the end I chose to go back to dr Ortiz because I like him, the center was familiar, he ONLY does bariatric surgery and he has a lot of experience plus the ICE rating. The surgeon in my city just started doing bariatric work in March 2013, and still does general surgeries as well. I included a pic of the article but if you can't find it on the internet I could scan it for you. Good luck making a choice!

    Keto post op diet

Ditto what AZHiker said. I'm back on keto with exception of fat %. I use vinaigrettes for salads and some salad dressings that straddle line between low carb and low fat. I use spray butter instead of butter, avocado mayo mixed with low fat mayo or greek yogurt and I use sparingly. Instead of full fat heavy cream, I opt for a splash fat free 1/2 and 1/2 )or vanilla protein drink). On rare occasions if overall carbs are low, I will use 1 TBSP of heavy cream in something but that is rare. I use fat free cream cheese, etc. - I think you get the picture. On top of this, since my calories are between 700-800 a day I still can be in ketosis sometimes partly from lower calories & part from low carbs. I notice when I stick to this, I lose weight faster. If I do some of the 'low glycemic carbs' like oatmeal, sweet baked potato, beans, I notice slow down in loss but I've had these items sparingly.. My surgeon is a keto fan after full healing when he lets his us start eating "regular food" . On the ongoing nutrition plan I just received, they had the macros as follows: 800 calories with 40% of total calories from protein, 30% from fat, and 30% from carbohydrates this should help increase your rate of weight loss. I can understand 800 cals & biggest % being protein but I was a bit surprised by 30% from fat part although I know they mean healthy kinds of fat like avocado, etc. Here is what plan says about fat: Limit fats to 2-3 servings a day; avoid unhealthy fats such as cream, lard, butter. 1 serving of fat should = 5g fat. Some examples include: 1 tsp. oil, 1 Tbsp. regular salad dressing, 2 Tbsp. reduced-fat salad dressings, 1/8 avocado, 6 almonds, 1 Tbsp. peanut butter. In looking at sample meal plans, I will revise it for me by removing some of the bigger carbs that the list has like once a day having oatmeal or 1 pc whole wheat toast as I need to keep overall carbs down to lose more quickly.

    refilling after years

I also had my band put in in 2010. After a year (exactly a year a week) and abysmal weight loss (@25lbs) my doctor discovered my tubing had kinked. He said he needed to go back in to fix it but it happened right after the bliss insurance expired (it is only for 12 months) and I was a cash purchase becuase my insurance doesn’t cover it. He could some how massage my abdominal wall and manipulate tube and get it to fill, but it was always a chance it wouldn’t work. And he wouldn’t fill too much because he was worried he wouldn’t be able to go in and let some out if the kink got worse. Then one day I noticed I would choke/vomit up everything solid, mushy and liquid. I even tried just sucking on ice cubes to stay hydrated. Nothing worked. Ended up at emergency room, doctor was called and greatly reduced band fill. Told me to get upper gi to check for damage and see him in three weeks. He forgot to leave script, came in mail about week later. When I called to schedule my appointment for upper gi a few days later (I was in no hurry since he wouldn’t refill for at least 6 weeks) I was told there was a problem with the script and to call doctor back for correction. When I called back I found out my surgeon had left for a tour with doctors w/o borders to Sudan. WTH. Went to a new recommended doc for a fill in a couple months after and she couldn’t fill it because of the kink. so here I am 8 years later and ready to start again with fills not even knowing if it will work. I called a new surgeon to make an appointment yesterday. I of course haven’t told them about the kinks or my upper gi appointment. That never came to pass. I would prefer a revision, but Medicare will not pay for revision unless there is a problem. Best case scenario is the kink worked it’s self out, it with additional weight gain I doubt it. Or next best for me is there is a band problem and Medicare will pay for revision. It’s kind of sad that my second best option is hoping for problems. Sorry for the length. I just know this is one group of people who understand the frustration. Sorry this was so long.
  17. Holy Hell... I know you're not asking for advice, but I feel you need it. 1) I hope you're joking when you say you'd rather be dead than fat. How would your mother feel? Do you have a spouse and/or kids? How would they feel? Do you think they'd rather visit you in the cemetery or keep loving you regardless of your weight? 2) FIND A BARIATRIC SURGEON FOR GOD'S SAKE. Get that band out of your stomach. There's a wonderful thing called "revision" and hopefully your insurance will cover it if the band failed you. If not, assuming you'd rather be dead than fat, I believe you'd rather be poor than dead so you can always take out a loan. 3) Throwing up was NORMAL for you?? Girl, that ain't right. I do my best to chew my food so well that I don't have a chance at barfing because that is no way to live. If you're going to get revision surgery, you need to nip that habit in the bud. You could cause yourself some serious damage if you ripped the incisions on your stomach after a sleeve or RNY. 4) Actually, before you do anything else, SEE A PSYCHOLOGIST. You have some issues you need to work through before surgery works for you. Your goal all along should've been health, not size necessarily (though being able to fit into cute, smaller clothes is a happy side effect). Your doctor shouldn't have performed surgery on you from what you're saying here (that you'd rather be dead than fat, which indicates you're majorly hung up on the superficial aspects of weight loss and not the deeper, positive effects of reduced blood pressure, reduced risk of diabetes, and slashing your chances of getting cancer). 5) Shame on your doctor for giving you the surgery and then setting you loose after filling you too tight. My surgeon would never have done that. He filled me too tight at my last appointment and wouldn't let me leave like that (the water I drank to test the restriction was gurgling in my throat). Filling so tight that you can't eat healthy food without making yourself sick should absolutely not be the goal of this surgery. Fat is bad, yes, and it's uncomfortable, unhealthy, and unattractive - BUT it is better than being a corpse. Okay, that's all I got I think. Even if you don't want this advice, I hope if anyone else comes along with the same issues as you reads this and gives their surgery a second thought or seeks mental health assistance, I will be happy I wrote it. I do wish you luck and health, and pray you take care of yourself if only for the sake of your family. I would be sick with anger if my mom did this to herself, or my spouse, or especially my son.
  18. I get it - I love food, too, which is why I needed the surgery. I don't have a "stop" button when it comes to eating, but my band became a "stop" button. Even with this awesome tool, I get frustrated because I WANT to eat more, but I CAN'T. Like last night we had a work dinner with prime rib (YUMMMMMMM) but I could only eat a sliver of that, some green beans, and a few bites of potatoes. I wanted a lot more, but it wouldn't be worth the pain. I'm very averse to vomiting, so I guess that's a good thing. But I'll admit it, sometimes I miss being able to have a good binge when I'm having a terrible day. Point is, I understand where you're coming from. Being fat sucks. Wanting food all the time sucks, too. No surgery will stop that feeling, even the sleeve or RNY because it's mostly psychological. I still get mad when I grab my small plate and put a couple ounces of meet and a cup of veggies on it and think to myself "this will never fill me up" but it does. It's just different now. Anyway, I'm glad you're taking care of yourself. Make sure you're talking to a bariatric surgeon when asking about revision. I don't know how that works with lap band erosion (might be dangerous to remove the band and revise you all at once) but it's worth asking. Also, check with your insurance! They very well might cover the revision cost due to band failure. Good luck!!! Keep us posted on what you find out and what they'll do for you.

I feel like I’m not doing all I can

No fraud there. You changed your eating habits for the better and lost weight as a result. That's great progress. I started the year at 300 lbs. and had my Revision to DS in May. I talk about the change in nutrition and revision surgery with whoever asks. Getting comments like "You look like a different person" all the time. Remember the surgery didn't take any weight off. Your new nutrition plan did. If you follow the plan long term, you'll reach your goal. I got the sleeve 7 years ago. I didn't plan out my nutrition very well. I relied on protein bars and protein shakes heavily as a long term diet. I've learned since then it is better to base your nutrition on natural sources, not processed foods. Once I finished the puree diet, I stopped consuming protein shakes and protein bars.
  20. Hi everyone. I am one year and six months post op gastric bypass surgery. I originally had a sleeve but got a revision due to bile reflux and a hiatal hernia. It seems like I am constantly nauseous off and one. Some days nothing and other days it's terrible. I have had a lot of testing done and I was told some can just have this post op. I have tried a ton of different medications and no luck. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly helpful and appreciated. Thank you! Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Late Period?

I had a period the week before my surgery on 5/6 that was mostly normal, lasted a day longer than usual. I had to go off birth control before surgery and then now post op can’t resume until 7/6. It’s time for a period per my app (what would I ever do without that thing 🤣) and it’s a few days late. Is that fairly common? I’m a revision and after my sleeve I remember having a period very quick. But that was a few years ago.

    June surgeries!

I think because I was a revision from band to bypass. I had two drains. They took one out today and the other will stay un until my month follow up. It helps with the gas and bloating.

    June surgeries!

I had straight rny. A revision is probably more involved.

    June surgeries!

I'm on the May June fence. No surgery date yet but I have my PreOp tests Friday and my physical/ medical clearance on the 14th. So guessing I shouldn't be far out after that. I start group support through the center last night and had a fab time. Trying to stay positive and believe that this is going to work for me. I'm a band to Rny revision. I still have my band in.
  25. I just left my appointment where I expected to get a fill only to be told that my port has flipped! I had my surgery in October and had to have a revision in December after my port flipped. Now I'm told that it flipped again! I was told that I haven't done anything to cause this. Apparently this "rarely happens". I'm so frustrated and upset! Has anyone else experienced this?
