    Newbie Needing Some Advice...

Avasmommy- you're going to get many different answers on this Welcome to the board and Congrats on your recent surgery. What stages did your Dr give you? I believe at two weeks I could start full liquids such as blended soups with no chunks Yogurt with no fruit At 4 weeks I could start soft foods like apple sauce consistency. Your best answer is going to come from your surgeons office just because on here we all have different phases. Not sure why lol There isn't an universal diet *yet* This is temporary and will allow you to heal so treat yourself good and follow your surgeons guidelines

Hi!! Good for you venturing out and congrats on your sleeve. So full liquid stage is pudding, soup, and yogurt right? I think it's the most challenging because you get tired of the sweet stuff pretty quick. For me trying different cream soups really helped because of their rich savory taste. Cream of wild mushroom, tomato bisque, cream of asparagus, and even cream of brocoli were all good to me. How much longer are you going to be at this stage? Just focus on how these lovely light meals are contributing to your weight loss and bringing you one step closer to goal. I don't feel I grasped this during the limited eating phases, but ultimately this is the time to get your mind to focus on the fact that food is primarily about nourishment. I wish you the best of luck and welcome to the loser's bench!!!

PostOp Diet... what can I have?

Pudding is my fav lol. I am on day 8 as surgery was Oct 16. I have oatmeal and creamy soups with mushed carrots. I'll do rutabaga tomorrow. Greek yogurt I tried again today. It has been giving me the runs. Trying to balance getting 60 to 80 grams of protein ( seems impossible) and drinking water. I love this sleeve!

    T - 7 days til BANDING!!!!

yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. is considered a mushy stage. If you are suppose to be only on liquids then it is anything that can fit through a straw. Soups is a good one for example.
  5. Banded same day. Nov 5, morning. On the day following the surgery, I was able to have warm broth. I had coffee, and other warm liquids. I don't think they do any harm. In fact I think it's slightly better warm than cold, because I was told that a cold liquid would induce stomach contraction, and thus, pain. For the last 2 days I was able to eat jell-o, slowly. I transformed the jelly to a smooth liquid in my mouth before swallowing, and it went down fine. Tonight I was able to eat a small 100g yogurt. It was way thicker than jell-o. But it went down okay, I ate slowly. Just go slow, you should be fine.

PostOp Diet... what can I have?

I had surgery on the 14th, and at this time I am allowed full liquids, which includes low fat creamy Soups, and yogurt with no fruit added, no pulp etc, with under 10 carbs per serving. same goes for the Protein drinks, under 10 carbs per serving, I have been using Premier Protein. This goes for 2 weeks post surgery, at the beginning of the third week, I can add the pureed foods, grits, 1 egg, refried Beans, with protein added. see if the NUT can email you your plan so you don't damage your pouch.

    Urinating Pain (males)

@@AndyNicks - That is not a complaint I hear about on this forum, but did they do a catheter? I had one with my appendix operation. Hurt like a mother coming out and burned for a while. Long list of things that can cause that type of pain but that's what urologists do. (And remember, the proctologists get you in the end). I agree moving from liquid to Jello and yogurt is great. Congrats, can't wait to hear about your progress.

    Slider Foods

Sliders are foods which go down easily, have high calories and little nutritional value. They don't fill you up. So things such as icecream. Then there are other foods which go down easily but they are more satisfying and have a high nutritional value so they are not really a slider. e.g Greek Yogurt.

    Newbie From New York

That yogurt stuff Jamie Lee Jones pushes is high in fiber. There are also other altenatives such as metamucil and some other natural fiber additives. But if it's food you seek, you should be close to eating any type of steamed/nuked vegetable available? Broccoli, carrots, aparagus, celery. Mix some bran flakes or grape nuts with some yogurt and let it soak for a few minutes. Cooked spinach might be acceptable too? You're going to experiment with foods anyway. I know there are many here who cannot eat salads of any kind, or carrots, or lettuce. I started off about 3-4 months into my band journey trying a bite here or there to see if my band would reject or accept a food. I found out my and liked salads but others haven't been as lucky. Your doctor is only looking out for your well being when they suggest you stay away from these foods till you know your band better. You can't afford a big vomitting session at this stage. We've seen some newbies post here that they are stuck big time, or they are vomitting profusely because they broke the rules so soon. You need to be patient. One or three months of no fruit or salads won't kill you. But once you are 6 weeks out maybe try a bite here and there. Don't make a meal out of pineapple, oranges, apples carrots and leafy vegetables till you understand how to eat with the band. tmf

    Nasty Cravings

Ummm yes, this would be me.... chocolate!!! The craving: sweets If visions of Cookies and ice cream dance in your head, what you may be craving more than the sugar in these foods is the fat that provides their texture, taste and aroma, according to Somer. Several studies have shown that fat and sugar may release endorphins into the brain (neurotransmitters that can produce a feeling of pleasure or euphoria). This hypothesis may explain why people crave that sweet, creamy taste -- it produces a pleasurable feeling. The solution: Guess what? Good old-fashioned exercise also appears to boost levels of endorphins (they're the same substances credited with the so-called "runners high"). So next time you feel like biting into a chocolate-covered ice cream bar, lace up those walking shoes or hop on your bike instead. You'll get the same pleasing feeling and the benefits of doing something good for your body. If you're on the job or unable to get immediate fitness gratification, you can still get the creamy taste and texture you yearn for from low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese with fruit. I agree with the exercising part, but there's no compairing chocolate to cottage cheese ROFLMFAO!!! Great post Pnut !!
  12. All the doctor did was give me a sheet that stated I should be on a liquid diet for 20 days and on that it says half a cup of yogurt for lunch amongst soup and juice and Jello. The soups are also low fat milk based soups, but no chunks. And that I have to have 6-8 cups of Water during the day, which is so hard to do. Mostly all he said was I'll learn as time goes by, to chew my food a lot and not to throw up. He may have said more but I was so freaked during the consult that I don't remember, lol. My mom says he also said I should be on mushies for 2 months before attempting regular food. I knew he didn't give me much direction but wasn't aware until now just how little he did give. Momamia, would you mind sharing what instructions you were given? Thank you, Violinist, your answer also helped. I appreciate any help I can get.

    3 weeks post sleeve

I was sleeved 4/10 and I'm on soft/pureed there's no way i could put down 5oz much less in 5 min. Today i had 1 egg for breakfast, a slice of deli Turkey and a small piece of cheese for lunch, and 2tbsp of yogurt for snack. i can get down 2tbsp of food as long as i take small bites and go slow. I would slow down on the intake 3weeks out your stomach is still healing i would be afraid of eating to much and creating a leak.
  14. I agree to check with your doctor but mine has us adding mashed potatoes, applesauce and yogurt & creamed soups by day 9. No eggs though - that comes with his 'soft food' stage. I can't wait to eat regular food again!

    Confused about meals

I am 8 weeks post op, I have lost 35 lbs but only 5 in the last 4 weeks. So I email my nutritionist and she tells me to have either a Protein shake or Greek yogurt for Breakfast not both.. and to limit my Snacks till only when I am hungry. My question is how am I supposed to get 60-80 grams of protein in if I only eat 3 meals a day and no Protein shakes. And I will be lucky to get 600 calories.

Well I have a high white blood cell count...had to rush to hospital to get lab work done so i can get on antibiotics before next week's surgery...it turns out I have bladder infection.....the pre op diet is really hard i'm eating more cottage cheese than I think I'm allowed, but I'm drinking bouillon cubes, broth, protein shakes and lots of sf popscicles and sf jello and light yogurt....so hopefully my liver will shrink from me just eating that stuff..what do you thinK?

    Struggling with head games

@Starflower i am the same. I fought my carb and sugar addiction for so long and even that didn’t prove enough until I had gastric bypass surgery. So I am terrified of falling backwards. I was in hospital for surgery and they kept wanting to serve me carbs laden foods! I had a small bowl of oatmeal when I had no choice and it was the only soft food I could stomach. But for me I feel carbs fuel my metabolic disorders and the addiction as well. You need to listen to yourself. Nutrition doesn’t need to come from traditional carbs. ive allowed myself a little low carb granola on my yogurt, a manzano banana, sometimes a pear. There’s ways to get nutrition and not lose more weight without adding carbs. I can’t add much you got great answers but I do understand how you feel.

    July 9th sleevers

I love Disney although I haven't been quite that many times. We did go this past March though. I have tried several different brands and flavors of protein shakes. My favorite is Bariatric Advantage Banana. The shakes are getting very old though so it is hard to force myself to drink 3 a day. Luckily 3 days after surgery I will be able to eat sugar free pudding and no sugar added Greek yogurt. I have never tried Greek yogurt so hopefully it is good. Your thread was actually the first time I posted. I have been reading for months now.
  20. I had a fill on Thursday. I now have 3 cc in my 11cc band. I stayed on liquids Thursday and Friday and most of yesterday. I had some mashed potatoes last night and after just a couple little bites, my back started killing me. And now this morning I tried some yogurt, same thing. Just a couple bites and my back starts to really hurt, right between my shoulder blades and I start sliming a bit. Think I should call him and get some taken out? Or wait it out a couple more days and see if it gets better? This is only my 2nd successful fill since I got banded. I hat port problems and just got it fixed about a month ago, so I feel like I'm starting all over again! <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    First Step Accomplished

:clap2: Surgery was on 8/28, and I am feeling better and better. I am still having a little referred pain in the shoulder...really hate that :car:, but it is getting better. All the pain medicine does is make me sleepy, but the lady from the surgery center said that is what it is supposed to do...help you sleep it off. I have not had that much trouble with eating except for my pet peeve...too much sweet stuff. Everything that is on the list is sweet...protein shakes, jello, baby food fruit, pudding, popcycles, apple juice, yogurt, etc. I have found that I can put a spoon of potato flakes in my beef or chicken broth which makes it a little less dull. I am really having a lot of trouble with the protein shakes...YUK :help:All suggestions are welcome. I know I have to drink them for the protein, but man are they bad. I did really great with the pre-op (see below), but I was already tired of the sweet so it is hard. I asked if I could have V-8, but they said it might be too much acid right now. I can't wait till the 3rd-4th week to get some soft foods in. That is when I can get away from so much sweet stuff. I always knew that I was not a sweet tooth, but it has really come out more now that I have been on this diet. I'm getting tired so I will sign off and get some sleep. I still can't believe that I have finally done this. I have wanted it for so long. I am so happy!

    Calcium

I never took the chewables. As long as it's the correct dose of Calcium Citrate...you're golden. Honestly? I just pop them in a glass with a little hot water or coffee and wait for them to soften a little...then I munch them up and swallow them. I get the big chalky monsters that are the size of a June bug. They have the taste and consistency of plaster of Paris going down...but meh...i'm cheap. It saves a buck and it's not so bad. I used to use a pill crusher and put the powder in sugar free Kool whip or yogurt.

    Help needed - taking meds

As you know, I'm not banded yet. BUT when my Grandfather had to crush pills, we put it in pudding, yogurt or milk shakes. He loved the milk shake because it went down quickly and we could make it any flavor he loved. Hope this helps. I know you're worried about the extra caloires, but you'd only have to have a small amount to swallow. Try the yogurt and Protein mix.
