    Nectar Caribbean Cooler...yes!

I love the fuzzy navel, but then again, I flavored mine with some additional items...I first took 1 bag of frozen raspberries and 1 bag of frozen strawberries, allowed them to thaw, and put them through a food processor. I strained out all the pulp and seeds, and then froze the juice into 2" silicone ice cube trays. the silicone makes them very easy to pop out. For my Protein drink, I used one frozen 2" cube of raspberry-strawberry juice, a handful of regular ice cubes, 1 cup of Light and Fit vanilla Yogurt, 1 cup of soy milk, and a small packet ( 1-qt size drink mix) of Crystal Light in either Pomegranate-Cherry, or Fruit Punch flavors (just the mix, no additional water). I put this through my smoothie blender, and have my taste buds dancing! It makes a lot, but with little sips, I'm satisfied for a hour or two. This helps to meet my hydration requirements of 64 oz a day, and puts a nice dent in my protein requirements too. I ran this recipe by my Dr, & she had no problem with me having this Post-VSG surgery & I'm only 1 week out. Enjoy everyone! ????

    Food feels stuck

Callchrissy, sorry to hear you are having a problem but as Mokee says, it's too soon for chicken, no matter how well chewed it is. All docs/nuts are different but stick with what's on your food plan and at the moment, that's likely to be purees. Think of your new stomach as being like a baby's - you need to wean it on to solids over a period of weeks to let it heal. Even if you can get food down, might not be doing you any good. Your stomach is still numb and swollen, so you won't feel it if you are eating the wrong thing. Don't be scared, the food will eventually go down but it does show that there is still swelling in your stomach. This will pass, think of it as a lesson learned. Good luck on your journey.

    Food feels stuck

2weeks out is too early for chicken. You should only be eating mushy food. Your stomach will not heal for another 4-6 weeks.

  6. I was sleeved January 9th 2013 and everything was going great and then on February 16th I started having a pain in my stomach like someone punched me whenever I ate or drank anything and I mean ANYTHING. I went from eating 6 small meals a day to a couple of bites every other day just so I wouldn't have to feel the pain. It has since increase in not only frequentcy but it happens without me having to be eating or drinking. I have had sooo many tests done to find the source. Nothing but gallstones or so they thought. Two weeks ago I had them removed along with my galbladder. Today was my two weeks followup. The pain is still there. My surgeon is all out of answers and seem very confused by my stomach pain. His only answer was that this may have to be my new normal...What!!! Nothing normal about this punched in the gut pain. I will waste away to nothing. I need some relief. Anyone have any answers or have the same issue??? On the bright side being almost 4 months out, I have lost 56 pounds. Aroseofbeauty

    Too soon?

I waited and waited to get my surgery process started because things kept popping up to delay it. Once my husband said he was on board with me getting that started, I was bing-bang-boom, "surgery's in a month." He was a little taken aback and only later I found out that he was scared about me going into surgery and potentially not coming out the other end. It's important to calm those nerves and give him the same confidence you have. I did this by giving stats and reviews for my surgeon and why he was (and is) the best. On the other side, I can say that as much as I thought I wanted the surgery as fast as humanly possible, I was not mentally prepared for the surgery in a month's time. All my duck's fell into place fast and I was so caught up in getting my pre-op tests and requirements done and then getting financing in order, that I didn't take time to prepare myself. I wish I would have worked out my relationship with food before surgery and really analyzed how I got to where I was. It might have better prepared me for the first couple weeks post-op and gotten me in the mind set to hit the ground running (not literally) right out the gate. Good luck to you in whatever you decide!

    What Does This Mean?

I don't know that there is such a thing as normal. Everyone is different. I'm 4 weeks post-op tomorrow and I am healing very slowly. I can't eat and drink as much as some or most people at this same stage. Every thing has to be mushed up and real creamy, no chunks, and not too thick. Drinking is slow going with resting between sips. Lot's of girgiling, burping and hiccups. I believe my acid relflux is slowing things down and I take Nexium and drink Mylanta as needed during the day. My doctor does not allow coffee, says it's slows down the healing process, but I started drinking coffee with lots of milk and creamer after 3 weeks. You are only 1 week out, it takes time and make sure you get in fluids. I was not a milk drinker before this surgery, but I am now. Skim milk goes down easy for me. You're in the hardest time right now, it will get better. Good that you're seeing your doctor tomorrow. Let him know your fluid intake.
  9. I am really disappointed in myself... I started the day off with Protein shake and one bottle of Water... then it went down hill from there.... with all the running around preparing for a house full tomorrow... I just realized (at 9pm at night) I haven't had anything to eat since this morning and that was my shake... and 1 16oz bottle of water... I am hanging my head in shame... I don't know why, but during the week, I am so regimented I have every meal and snack packed & ready for the work week... but when the weekend comes, it all falls apart... every weekend I say Ok I am going to stay on track, and continue... but I don't... Has this happen to any one else?

    Progress Report

Hi.. Just wanted to give a progress report.. I was banded on Feb. 13th, and had my one-week post op appt. According my doctors scale, I've lost 15 pounds this week, and a total of 21 pounds since Feb. 8th. I would like to think you all for your support and encouragement during the rough first couple of days. Thanks Again, Ashley

    Too soon?

Sounds like maybe he isn't mentally ready yet. I would normally say that as long as you are ready, its your choice, but I know that our SO's are in this too and they are important also. If I may suggest, ask him more specific questions, rather than a broad general "why is it too soon". Maybe like "Are you nervous that its too soon?" "Are you worried about the surgery itself?" "When do you think it is a good time?" And be sincere about it. It is new to him too and because it isn't directly affecting him, yet, he may feel it is being rushed, while you know what you are in for because of the reading and searching you have done to prepare. I think it ultimately has to be your decision on when, but his input may sway you to hold off a week or so. Hopefully he isn't thinking 6 mos. or something. Best of luck!

    Pain Pain Pain

Take your pain Meds as directed. Don't wait for pain to come in. I got a sleep aid from my dr after week 1 cause I had massive gas pain. Get up and move, even if you just walk around the house. Week 1 is the toughest. I am 3 months out and things are great !!! Keep going, you will do great !!
  13. I have been able to eat since the 2nd week out, I had no problems with food digestion and my doctor gave me the green light to eat anything I could tolerate. So far I can eat anything except I became lactose intolerant. It scares me that I can eat so easily. I see my doctor again on Wed. the 14th will post what he tells me. Thanks for your response I am also watching other peoples replies.

    Is this normal?

I have been banded 2 weeks today. Am I being impatient because I haven't lost any weight in the last week even though I'm sticking to plan, still feeling some restriction, and walking every night? I suppose the week prior to surgery and the week after spoiled me considering that I lost 15lbs during this time. Now, nothing.. i may have even put back on a pound or two. I'm sad..:cry My first fill isn't until the day before Thanksgiving.. 11/21.

    Skinny Minny! Me? Seriously?!

@@jenkbacon I am 6 weeks out and returned to work after 4 weeks. I got some of the same reactions. "wow you look great!" or "you dont look sickly at all!" (from friends at work) or "have you lost weight??" and my all time favorite "how do you feel?" Its like they expect me to look and feel like I am on my death bed or something. I feel great no doubt but are they wishing I had complications??? I had one co-worker tell me that I am wearing my clothes big on purpose. Really??? I am not running out to buy new clothes just one month after surgery. I am wearing my regular work clothes for now. And absolutely I get the questions 'what are you doing?" "what are you eating?" I dont know if it's because I work in the medical field and diet seems to always be the topic around there or what. Maybe its different in a regular work environment. For now I enjoy the compliments, but hoping that soon the spotlight fades.

    Skinny Minny! Me? Seriously?!

Congrats on your success this far! My situation is a little different because there was only 1 close friend at work who knew I had surgery (others have figured it out since then I think) and there was this one woman who just would not leave me alone. She was obsessed with my weight loss. "What are you doing?" "What are you eating" "When will you stop" etc etc etc. She made a comment to me at least once daily. It made me really uncomfortable, but now 18 months out, no one really mentions it anymore. They've adjusted to the "New me" and your co-workers will too. But expect lots of compliments in that first year of active weight loss! Even today someone came back to work who I had resigned a couple weeks ago for visit and we hugged and she said "Oh, you're as thin as a rail!!" That's definitely not something I'm used to hearing! Also weird is new people who have started or I've met at my work, church, kids' school since I lost 140+ pounds. It's so weird to me that they never knew me as overweight. Sometimes it will come up and I will show them a before and after picture and they are floored. It's kind of cool the first time someone says "I never would have known you were overweight". Good luck to you on the rest of your journey!
  17. I had my VSG on 1/20/2015. I told a few close friends I work with and of course my family prior. When I started my preop diet, people were quite nosey, so I was honest about my plans for surgery and really have had positive feedback. I returned to work after 4 weeks down 15.5 pounds (I lost 11 pounds in the 6 months working with the dietitian and 10 pounds on the preop diet), so I was at a total weight loss of 36.5 lbs. I really hadn't seen much of a difference personally in my appearance, but my scrubs were definitely looser. Everybody, made comments! It was crazy. I was very upfront about surgery and the response has been overwhelmingly supportive. The only somewhat negative experience I had was a doctor that I love dearly come up to me in excitement about losing weight and I told her about surgery, but she took a step back from me and stopped talking to me. She is overweight herself, but I was shocked at the look of disappointment she gave me. I'm now at the 8 week mark and I'm down 43.5! So not much of a change since I went back, but yesterday everybody again was commenting. Is the weight loss that different with WLS? I haven't changed much in 4 weeks, but I had multiple people use the phrase "skinny minny" yesterday! I'm a little overwhelmed by the attention. It's a very weird situation for me because I've always preferred to be a fly on the wall and now all of a sudden I'm front and center. Have any of you had this experience? Any advice? It's definitely not a bad thing and it is positive that people are so encouraging. I'm just not used to attention like that. It's a very new experience for me! ☺️
  18. I am stressing myself out about losing too much weight and being rejected. My insurance requires a BMI of 40 to be considered. Mine is currently 47.5. I have a 3 month diet, and if I lose more that 40 pounds my BMI is going to drop to 39. I am so worried that I will have gone through this for nothing. 3 days into my diet and I am already down 3 pounds. Not complaining, I want to lose as much as possible for surgery to reduce lose skin and build good eating/exercise diets NOW rather than post op, I am just so stressed thinking that I could possibly lose too much. Is this possible? Has this ever happened to any one? I have aetna. Side note: I do not have any obesity related diseases so the need for surgery is based solely off my BMI.

    Water weight gain

I know you are right! I had surgery on January 27, but came home with a picc line, and have been hooked up to tpn for 14 hours a night since coming home. It is 3 liters of fluid EVERY NIGHT , and I cannot eat or drink ANYTHING by mouth yet. My scale shows just about the same every day, within about a 2-3 pound range. It is frustrating not to be losing....hopefully the pic line will come out this week, and I can get on with losing some weight.

    Nausea

The nausea was the worst!!! I had it when I was in the hospital and they gave me strong drugs to combat it. By day 3 the nausea was gone and I haven't felt it since. My doc says if clears up after a while so just hang in there however if you throw up when drinking water or other liquid call the doc! Good luck [emoji3]
  21. Stalls at 3 weeks are to be expected. I'm almost 6 weeks now and went thru the same thing for approx 10 days. Hand tight you will start to loose again.

    Beyond Frustrated

your having "buyers remorse" its perfectly NORMAL... My surgery was 12/28, i was also in the hospital for 4 days, and i went threw the SAME thing... i would cook for my family and CRY over scalloped tators and Ham... i was a mess. Im just starting to get past that point. at just past three weeks out my foods have more variety and i KNOW now that i cant tolerate most of what smells so good anyway. the trick is to find what you can eat.. and enjoy it! Hang in there... it will get better.. promise:)

    Workout.....

I started at 3 weeks walking 2 miles, 3 days a week. I recently started lifting weights at 7 weeks post op. I also lift heavy weights but not super heavy. I also started running a week or 2 ago and now I'm able to run a mile non stop. My advice is to listen to your body. Good Luck
  24. Never had to take mag citrate before my surgery. I was on liquids for 2 week preop. As you said there is not that much in there. I just had to be NPO after 9pm the night before surgery and I had no problems. I would check with your doctor regarding this issue.

    Surgery Tomorrow!

Hey Texusa. Thanks for asking. I feel Awesome. I had the Op in the Frisco Medical Center at 7.45 am Last Tuesday. The staff there were awesome and looked after me so well. I knew I had to walk and pee and then I could go home. as soon as I woke up in the room, I was like, get me up I am gonna walk an pee (but not together as that was a health hazard). I was out the hospital and walking round Target at 12.30. The Wednesday I was really woozy, and slept most of the day. On the Thursday and Friday I could start feeling better and now I am over a week I feel fine and love the liquids and don't feel hungry at all. I have people eating in front of me at work and at home and even though I love the smell, I don't feel hungry. Its so strange, but exciting. I started my pre op diet 2 weeks out and lost 12lbs. I have lost another 10 lbs since the operation and yesterday gained 0.8lbs and today lost 0.6lbs, however its all going the right way and I should learn not to be a slave to the scales. I have energy back and I feel amazing. Its the best decision I have ever made. I can't wait to see myself in 6 months time. Hope that helps. any other questions, just ask away.
