Much better. I'm 9 weeks post-op and I'm not hoarse at 10 am anymore or waking up with acid burning the back of my nose.
  2. Hi All, Newbie here😀. Wanna share my journey in getting sleeved & how its turning out so far. Am 40 Yrs old. Gained weight in last 2 years (from 320 lbs to 427lbs) due to severe depression & alcohol abuse. Suffering from Anxiety & panic attacks. So with courage from my wife & family went & sought help in June 2018. Quit Drinking in Sep. Have been sober since. Was smoking till Dec 28th 2018. Not much. May be 5-6 V light slim cigarettes a day. Have had hypertension for last 10 yrs. No Sugar. No diabetes. No Cholesterol issues as well. Got admitted on 29th Dec. Had my Laparoscopic Sleeve done on the 30th of Dec. Got discharged from Hospital on the 1st of Jan 2019. It was a wonderful homecoming. Have been recommended a liquid diet by the team for 3 months. I asked the team if i could swim as even prior to getting sleeved i used to swim 2 times daily. Surprisingly they okeyed me to swim and did water proof dressings for the stitches which we replace after disinfecting every day after i swim. Its been a week today since the surgery. I have been swimming for 3 days regularly now. I feel soooooo different. Sorry for the long first post. More to follow. Glad to be a part off this great community.
  3. You are more than likely ready to move on to soft foods after 19 days. Try it. If your tummy doesn't like it, go back to puree. Happy adventuring!! Sent from my LM-X410(FG) using BariatricPal mobile app

    New to WLS!

First of all, congratulations on your first steps into weight loss surgery! Everyone's journey is a little different, but I'll try to answer what questions I can: How much weight can you lose pre-op? You are a bit above the 40 BMI required for surgery without a comorbidity, so I wouldn't worry too much about being less than a 40 BMI by the time insurance checks your weight progress pre-op. My program advised that I could not gain any weight, but a weight loss of 10-15lbs (even 20) is pretty acceptable (especially during the infamous pre-op diet.) Weight loss wasn't a huge focus during my nutritionist classes, it was more about starting to learn the tools that I would need to be successful post-op. It wasn't a weight management class, you know? Scheduling Evaluations: I was lucky in that I did not need a whole bunch of evaluations. I had a psychological evaluation that I scheduled myself. However, if you ask your team (surgeon, or nurse), they can recommend specialists that work with them (just make sure they are in-network for you! the evaluation was expensive for me, even though my provider was in-network.) That one, once the evaluation is done, they send over the information and know WHO to send the information to. I would assume the same goes to any cardiac, or sleep specialist. You will have to schedule these own appointments, but it helps if it a practice that works alongside your program. My nutritionist appointments were through the hospital themselves and those were scheduled with the dietitian herself. How long did it take? I talked about WLS with my PCP around the middle of April. My first appointment with the surgeon was 4/30/18. My surgery was scheduled for 12/12/2018 (though it could have been a week sooner - I had exams so I rescheduled.) My insurance only required 3 months of nutrition classes (though I actually went to 4 because it had to be a total of 90 days.) Any tips? Be your own advocate! Realize that most medical professionals work M-F, but don't allow anyone to drag their feet on getting information back to you, or to others. Also, follow up on people! If someone was supposed to receive paperwork, call them the next business day and make sure they received what they needed and ask if there is anything else that they need. I did this and I sincerely feel that it helped make things SO much easier. Get your work FMLA and short term filed as soon as possible. FMLA was possibly the most difficult aspect of paperwork during the entire ordeal, my supervisor dragged his feet and I ended up nearly close to the deadline. Hope this helped.
  6. Hi everyone, I have just entered the world of WLS. I first visited my primary doctor (10/2018) and asked about WLS. He then referred me to a surgeon within the same clinic. I visited the surgeon (11/2018) to discuss WLS options and steps it takes to have surgery: 1- Referral to "Lighten Up Program" which is 3 or 6 month weight management program (I am required to do 3 months for insurance BCBS) 2- After completion of the program Health Ed will fax documents of program to their office 3- Authorization for physiological eval 4- Psychological Eval 5- Primary Physician Clearance (cardiac and pulmonary clearance if required) 6- Schedule an appointment with Physician to discuss procedure 7- Authorization for surgery and Approval from insurance I am one month into the weight program. Already lost 9lbs (too much?) My question is, do I have to schedule my evaluations or will I be contacted? Any tips? How long will everything take? Stats: 25 years old, 5'1 HW: 271, 50 BMI CW: 258, 48.7 BMI GW: 150

    January surgeries?!

Day three of liquids. 10 days til surgery. Surprisingly, liquid diet going way better than I anticipated (thanks for the new vitamix blender, hubby!!) and I’m 10 lbs down from my last doctor appt. Those are the positives. The negative is that I have developed severe sciatica issue. My half mile walk today has left me flat on my back with a heating pad. :(. Can’t imagine being in this much pain AND having abdominal surgery!!

Online dating - shady or no?

I think it's easier for women. I have messaged about 300 women and got a response on less than 10 and no dates. I have concluded I am undesirable, at least relative to the competition. I would waste so much time poring over their profiles and trying to come up with clever messages only for them to be read and ignored. Now I hardly message. When I do, it's a copy and paste message. I also only message the most attractive profiles. If I get a response, which I have yet to, I'll go back and read their profile to determine if they are crazy. If they are, I'll simply ignore them.

    Getting back on track

How are you doing? I gained back a few pounds over the holidays and I’m working to get back on track. I’m down a few since Jan 1st. About 4 lbs over my lowest post surgery and 10 lbs from goal.
  10. I will have bypass in February 2019 and have about 90 pounds to lose to be at my goal weight. I don't think it's harder for people like us to lose weight--I think that it might just be a bit slower and we won't have spectacular losses in any given month. In the end, we'll all get where we need to be and we'll all be healthier.

    DC Support groups?

I'm in Silver Spring and will be having my bypass surgery at Sibley Memorial Hospital in February 2019. I believe they have a support group, and I would definitely like to participate. I would like to know about other DC area support groups that have worked for people. Perhaps we could organize a monthly informal meetup?

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

  13. Goodwill is my best friend. Over the past 10 years I’ve lost 60 pounds, gained it back and then some. I had RNY 12-3-18 and look forward to losing and going down in sizes. Our Goodwill offers 99 cent clothes daily and literally 75% of my wardrobe comes from there, and I’m talking some really nice items too. I consider it like a treasure hunt 😊
  14. I actually have clothes from four different sizes of me as a result of previous diets that worked temporarily, before I gained all the weight back. So, I have wardrobe options on the way down. (My bypass is in February 2019.) I've decided that I will go out and treat myself to a new wardrobe once I'm at or near my goal weight.
  15. I got thru my rapid loss phase with some wrap dresses and tops from eShakti . I could wear them for 8-10 size changes. I also would only buy the bare minimum for a season. I will say that at some point I was feeling very frumpy at the 50 lbs loss mark and went shopping. It was glorious and I’d even buy too tight cause I knew in a few weeks it wouldn’t be.

    October 2018 Sleevers

Hope your gallbladder surgery goes well. I had mine out 10 years ago, and haven't missed it a day since. I was in soooo much pain before it was removed, and it made a huge difference for me. I hope your experience is similar.

Mine is still falling out and I'm 10 months post-op. But, I had revision surgery 8 months out, so that may have contributed to my problem.

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

First of the year check in, surgery was June 15th I’m down 43lbs currently at 159lbs my loss has been slow and steady which was expected. My dr. Told me to aim for an average of 5lbs a month to stay on track and so far that that’s my average. My total goal was to get to about 125/135. I went from a size 14 to a size 8 currently. Honestly I’m pefrecetly comfortable with my weight and size, however I’m going to keep pushing to meet my goal set by my dr. The biggest reason is because he told me to expect a gain when I hit my maintenance stage. So I will hit my goal so when I gain stay in my comfort zone. This year I’m going to concentrate on trying to make it to the gym 3-4 times a week and build some muscle and some much lost booty lol. Other then that I’m happy to report that I’m the healthiest I’ve been in 7+ years. I’m the most comfortable and confident I’ve been ever I think. I’m looking forward to seeing what changes this year brings and I’m excited to keep sharing and being motivated by all of our June Sleevers. You guys are doing amazing. First picture is me at about 190lbs Thanksgiving 2017 2nd pic- June 13 2018 sitting at 202 right before surgery last pic- January 1st 2019 159lbs
  19. I have waited almost 11 month to have my surgery (1/7/19) but I have continue to lose weight and I am down to 196 about a 34BMI. I’m wondering what kind of weight loss should be expected?

    Non Scale Victories

My wedding ring has had to be sized down twice. The first time it went from a 17 to a 15 and this past time it went from a 15 to a 12.5. I go to 10-15 ballgames a year and it was nice to not have to buy an extra seat just so I could have shoulder room.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Good for you. I had my surgery on 12/17 and started spin classes last Sunday. I started slow my first class, but I am busting my ass now!! I have been on purees and softs from day one so getting the protein and calories hasn't been an issue for. I can also drink without restriction so hydration is no problem either. I can easily drink 100+ ounce a day. As for diet, I cut carbs down to less than 20 net carbs a day, so my protein makes up more than 50% of my caloric intake daily and fats (good fats like avocado, fish oil, etc) make of another 42%. I log everything I put in my mouth in MyFitnessPal and watch the macros and nutrient count carefully. I just went into ketosis 6 days ago, which broke 10 day stall. I am now down 31 pounds since I started my pre-op diet and 14 since I had the surgery. More importantly, I feel awe some and my blood sugars are normal!!!! I had a fasting blood sugar this morning of 87 without meds. I used to be in the 120 s or higher on metformin and victoza. I love my sleeve!!! However, I fo still get some hunger and can eat more than 6oz of food, which seems like a lot compared to everyone else. Not sure what it all means for my future. 22. Had my surgery on 12/10. About to go into my second week of pureed foods. I’ve been really good about following the post-op instructions. Does the hunger ever go away? A big reason I went ahead with the surgery was that I was told that with gastric sleeve, you don’t feel so hungry. Honestly, I was relying on that. For the past few weeks I crave everything I see on tv, my husband eats, etc. And I feel hungry enough that I could eat that entire burger and fries, or two slices of pizza (my usual pizza intake before surgery), or whatever. It’s not just bad foods. Good healthy food also makes me salivate. Obviously I don’t, because it’s not allowed. But I was hoping that I wouldn’t be so hungry, which makes the cravings worse. Also, when I eat my pureed food, I can get in between 3-4 oz. And I eat tiny spoonfuls and very slowly (30-40 mins). When I stop, it’s not because my stomach feels full/satisfied. It’s because I feel pain in my stomach. Does that make sense? And an hour later I think I feel hungry again but by this point I’m trying to get fluids with Genepro in. I just basically feel hungry all day. Even though I eat 4 times a day and I’m getting my fluids in.

    January 2018 Sleevers HERE

Hey guys! I have been stuck at 170 for about two months now. My doctor told me that once I hit the year mark, the weight will not come off as fast. He still wants me to lose another 10 lbs. I’m down 60 lbs so far, but this last 10 won’t budge. Any tips?
