Meal / food help please!

at the beginning - tuna with a small amount of yogurt worked well for me (plus lots of protein). I added some herbs like Dill too. Other go to "real food" for me was rolled up sliced turkey (or any sandwich meat) with string cheese. This went down well too. Finally - try yogurt with soft fruit like kiwi or melon. If you use Fage it has the highest Protein. good luck ! -
I'm not much on yogurt, but I did stumble on that Oikos Triple Zero Greek stuff during the months leading up to my pre-op diet. I stress that I don't care for yogurt in general.....but this stuff is great. I'm glad I found out about it. It needs nothing extra to taste really good.

I hate Greek yogurt and will not eat it but that's just me

So after surgery my taste buds have changed completely.
Ashlegal replied to melps's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The only powders that I have enjoyed or the Syntrax Sweets. Syntrax has a huge variety of flavors, ranging from chocolate, to fuzzy navel and even an ice tea w/lemon flavor. I order mine from Amazon as it is just easier that way. I blend my in a little nutri-bullet with ice, unsweetened almond milk, a pump or two of SF Torani syrup and plain greek yogurt. It ends up feeling more like a treat and less like a requirement. -

Confession: I think I'm officially a bad sleever.

My biggest problem is grazing. I don't really like the feeling of solid Protein in my stomach. Solid protein hurts pretty quickly. I hate that too full feeling which happens almost immediately. Then I end up grazing all the time. I eat yogurt, Protein shakes, cheese, etc. It's very easy to fall away from all the rules. The trick is remembering what they are and forcing yourself to get back on track. -
Any bad experiences ? by not taking vitamins/protein drink
blashlee replied to shirleyjohn001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very possible to get enough Protein from food, but probably not at only 2 months post op. At 6 months post op, I still have the best days intake wise when I add protein to my drinks or to my yogurt. On food alone, I can barely break 90g unless I eat meat and cheese for every meal. Eventually people stop taking protein from shakes and supplements all together, which is fine, but at 2 months post op, you're setting the foundations for long term success. I dont have a protein shake everyday, but i make sure protein makes up 60-75% of my meal. If I have a salad, it has meat on it and I eat the protein before I get to the salad part. Which generally is never because I'm full from the meats. On days where I don't feel like eating much, I have a lot of greek yogurt and a protein shake or scoop unflavored protein into food. I agree, you don't need to necessarily DRINK your protein, but you need to be getting it in somehow. -
How much do you eat a day
Ashlegal replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the mornings Breakfast comes in two stages. First stage is four ounces of 2% Fairlife Milk. I keep a couple of coffee mugs in the freezer and they keep my milk cold as I sip on the milk. Even slightly less than ice cold milk is yuck! When the rest of the family is waking up, needing breakfast, coffee, lunches made and what not; I usually have some form of egg (usually lightly scrambled) with some shredded cheese, a little hot sauce and a few small bites of Turkey sausage (or Turkey bacon). I stay pretty full from about 6-10 between the milk, the eggs and the turkey. By ten I'm starting to feel hungry and will then snack on either a cheese stick, a Babybel or Tillamook cheese snack. At lunch (between 12-1) I will have a Laughing Cow cheese wedge, spread over two thin slices of either turkey or chicken from my local deli. I usually dip them in Spicy Mustard. I don't ever need more than that but sometimes I will eat another half cheese stick. Sometimes I have shrimp (steamed from home) dipped in homemade cocktail sauce or chicken salad from my grocer. Sometimes I will eat the chicken (or egg or tuna) salad with a few Wheat Thins. By three or three thirty I will have a Greek Yogurt. I aim for no more than 10 grams of sugar, no less than 12 grams of Protein and no more than 100 calories. This gives me lots of options. Chobani Simply 100, Dannon Light and Fit, Oikos Triple Zero. Some flavors work well with PB2 powder (Jiffy makes one that has equal nutritional value) and with that I can up my protein intake from 12 to 16 or 17 grams of protein. dinner is always varied but centers around lean Proteins and well cooked non-starchy veggies (green Beans, asparagus, zucchini, squash). Last night I roasted a whole chicken in my dutch oven, had a slice of that with a quarter of mashed sweet potato and a few fresh (steamed) green beans with lemon and pepper. My nutritional goals are at this time to consume no more than 50 grams of carbs, 600-800 calories, 20 grams of sugar and at least 50 grams of protein. I have steadily lost 2-5 pounds a week since surgery, I have never been constipated, thrown up or lethargic. This works for me, it may not work for anyone else but my surgeon, my PCP and my NUT are happy with my plan. -

Daisee68 replied to melps's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This has happened to a lot of people. I don't find that it happened to me other than I have burned out on certain things. My favorite Protein drink is ready made Premier Protein - both the chocolate and the vanilla are very good! They are only 11 oz and contain 30 g of protein. HIGHLY recommend those. For powders, I use Precision Engineered Whey Protein Isolate (order it online). I think they are very good (both chocolate and vanilla). The vanilla smells wonderful (even per someone not a WLS patient at work that smelled it as I poured it in to my yogurt). I mix 1/2 scoop of vanilla with 1/2 container of greek yogurt. Or I also mix 1/2 scoop of the chocolate with chocolate sugar free fat free pudding snack. You will get lots of suggestions here. I was lucky that I landed on the above (recommended on this board) and loved them and never had to try different ones. Good luck with your search! Vitamin Shoppe sells some samples and BariatricPantry.com also sells samples. You might start with those. -

Can I ask why you are skipping breakfast? It doesn't seem like the best idea? What are your daily protein totals so far? Are you following the plan your surgeon gave you? I am 3 weeks out from surgery today- My days are pretty similar Protein coffee (With Fairlife Milk, depending on which of my protein powders I choose 26-29 g protein here) This takes me a good 2 hours to drink usually lunch 1 Light and Fit Greek Yogurt 12 g protein Takes about 45-60 minutes to eat dinner 1/4-1/3 cup refried Beans, 2 TBSP salsa, 1 TBSP Sour cream 7 g protein I will add unflavored protein powder to crystal light if needed to reach my goal of 50g minimum I am usually at about 500 calories. I am usually short on water/calorie free liquids... I try to drink but it takes me a long time. -

So going through all my paperwork from my surgeon, I find that I will not be on an all liquid diet 2 weeks pre op. My diet will have 2 protein shakes a sensible dinner along with 3 snacks throughout the day. Dinner is a 4oz meat with 2-3 cups of veggies and the snacks are 1cup veggies or a single serving of my choice of dairy product like yogurt or cottage cheese. Anyone else have a pre op diet that was NOT all liquid?
