    What has Highest protein content?

Premier protein shakes (ready to drink) have 30 grams and only 5 carbs. They are fairly tasty. You can purchase them at Sam's club and some people have found them at Walmart. They come in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. They are a good way to get a lot of protein in at this stage. You can also add unflavored protein powder to stuff like, soups, yogurt, etc. I think unjury has a protein chicken broth/soup. I never had it, but a lot of people hear swear by it. In the beginning it is very hard to get the protein in. Just take it slow and listen to your body. Staying hydrated is also very important at this stage. Congrats on your surgery!!! Good luck. Each day will get better.

    Protein alternatives for small meals

At two weeks out I was no where near eating pureed. I was still trying to consume my Protein shakes to get in my required amount and consuming my Water. I am 6 weeks now and still do not feel hungry and basically yes, eating is a chore. I still do eat pureed or very soft food and have one shake a day. I have tried ground meats but they are too heavy feeling for my stomach yet. I eat my five mini meals a day(they all seem like snacks!) I eat yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, tuna, canned meats(chicken/turkey), laughing cow cheese, soft fishes, Beans. I have also tried a Morningstar farms Breakfast sausage and it was pretty good. Don't worry I think you are doing fine.
  5. My surgery is Nov 2 as well. I've been doing full liquids this week starting Sunday. I'm finding I get hungry right around the time that I am going to bed but I fall asleep and all seems to be ok. I'm constantly drinking something. Protein shake (I'm allowed 1 scoop of whichever protein I like with 16oz of liquid, half almond milk and half water), tea, Water, Soups with no chucks, low/no sugar yogurt drinks... It's like it's never ending! We got this.

Thanks all for the good wishes and positive vibes. It hasn't been easy but I trust in God He cares for me! I believe it will be well with me. Taking these 28 days in strides. One step at a time. Happy to hear you are cancer free. God is indeed faithful! Had myself a piece of pudding today and I actually liked it. Not a big piece maybe three table spoons worth. As my sister said; under the circumstances I have earned it. One boiled egg, one Protein shake, two ounces of yogurt( yogurt really taste like crap today for some reason) and a piece of pudding is all I could keep down today. Plenty ice cold Water, in between. Thanks all for the warm thoughts. Besides my sister there is really no one else in the family I want to burden with this issue so I am so happy I have you guys to talk to. Thanks again

    Finally

Also I found that the crystal light ice tea is so easy to drink, in the hospital they lemonade (heartburn city) and the raspberry (cough syrup) lol once I got home an used the ice tea it was so easy to get the crystal light down. Plain water was very hard for me. Did anyone start their light yogurt when they got home? Hospital said no but papers the dr have had it on there

    Food amounts

I was sleeved 8/3 and I concentrate on the Protein, 80-100 gms a day, 800-1000 calories a day, 64ounces of liquid, I do not always meet that, it is hard, and low sugar, low fat. am following the program. I do not eat full meals, except for dinner, a shake for Breakfast, cheese, or salad and hard boiled egg for lunch, tuna 5 oz, sometimes mixed with egg and small amounts of light mayo. Snack afternoon, sometimes yogurt and cottage cheese, and then my dinner, 4-5oz of protein, and veggies, sometimes a snack at night 1 tsp of cashew butter, sometimes prunes. I have lost including preop 42 lbs, which I think should be more, I work out and strength train,4-5 days a week, so I am doing all I can. Good luck hope some of this helps.
  11. Hi all, About 6 mo out now. I'm finding pacing myself while eating is difficult, esp. in college when you're always short on time. In general though, I haven't seen my capacity change since the beginning to now, it can take me five, ten or fifteen, thirty minutes, I'm still only going to be able to fit half a cheesestick, or half a container of yogurt in or x amount of other things. If anything, these days, my capacity is less. How long do you usually take to eat? Tips for eating slower? I also find myself eating a bit quicker because food is just... good, and I don't really think about eating super slow anymore. Although I'm not eating unhealthy and mostly Protein based, I worry I will stretch my sleeve (I did over eat a few times since leaving home but thats MOSTLY subsided) and sometimes eating at the rate I've been at has made me not feel very well physically and/or emotionally. Should I stop eating right before I'm full, or until I'm COMFORTABLY full? I just feel stress and guilt because I honestly don't know. I've had a harder time since leaving home and I'm honestly doing my best while struggling to get protein in which will lead to "I need another bite of this chicken" and then feeling awful for it. I don't chug but I kind of gulp Water, too. Could a negative effect come from this?

Lists of foods and stuff to buy

There is a big gastric sleeve book on this site with dietary guidelines and its also online. I can't figure out how to add the link. The first few days after surgery i was on clear liqids: broth. Sf jello. Clear protein drink. Days 4-13 full liquids: add pureed foods and cream soups, yogurt and pudding along with water and protein. Days 14-20 were mushy foods. Add scrambled eggs, tuna salad and ricotta and similar foods along with protein and water. Days 21 soft foods and add regular foods as you tolerate them. Protein first always. Water. And vitamins. Those were instructions from my surgeon.

    Post op struggle.

I had my surgery on 10/13. I think you might be taking in to many calories. Try cutting it back a bit. I'm basically just drinking my protein shake and yogurt. Getting plenty of water too. Good luck...

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I don't like yogurt. I used to like it some when I was a kid but the older I get the less I like to the point I am at now. I have so few calories to work with each day, I am not going to waste time trying to force myself to like something that I don't like and isn't essentials. There are lots of sources of Protein. You don't have to force yourself to like something you don't like.

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I'm suppose to keep my sugar grams at 5 or less. All these yogurts you all are talking about that sound so wonderful all have way more than 5gm of sugar in them. I don't think ill be able to have any of them!

    Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!

I really like the oikos triple yogurt vanilla flavor. But I've always loved yogurt too and cottage cheese too!

    Greek yogurt:( yuck !

I'm not much on yogurt, but I did stumble on that Oikos Triple Zero Greek stuff during the months leading up to my pre-op diet. I stress that I don't care for yogurt in general.....but this stuff is great. I'm glad I found out about it. It needs nothing extra to taste really good. My husband who hasn't had any surgery and isn't overweight (brat lol). Loves the triple zero yogurt too. He actually likes almost all the "healthy" food that I'm eating also. Like the veggie chips (pre op) even my broth I drank lol.

    FIBER

Pre-op just look to foods like dark leafy green veg, Beans if you like them, apples, whole grains. Post-op it gets more challenging. Any easy fix I recommend would be wheatgerm, flax powder or psylium powder. A tsp added to yogurt, Soup or a Protein shake daily might help keep you regular. You could also use these food pre-op as well. Keeping a food diary on Myfitnesspal is a good place to start because you can start tracking what foods give you the best bang for the buck.

    Meal / food help please!

at the beginning - tuna with a small amount of yogurt worked well for me (plus lots of protein). I added some herbs like Dill too. Other go to "real food" for me was rolled up sliced turkey (or any sandwich meat) with string cheese. This went down well too. Finally - try yogurt with soft fruit like kiwi or melon. If you use Fage it has the highest Protein. good luck !

I hate Greek yogurt and will not eat it but that's just me
  25. The only powders that I have enjoyed or the Syntrax Sweets. Syntrax has a huge variety of flavors, ranging from chocolate, to fuzzy navel and even an ice tea w/lemon flavor. I order mine from Amazon as it is just easier that way. I blend my in a little nutri-bullet with ice, unsweetened almond milk, a pump or two of SF Torani syrup and plain greek yogurt. It ends up feeling more like a treat and less like a requirement.
