    I'm approved!!

Congrats Cissy!! The next two weeks are going to just FLY by, hang in there even if it seems like it's taking forever.
  2. Anyone else find it difficult to not have a drink with your meal? I have to say it's the so difficult for me. I'm 5 weeks post op feeling great but this is a struggle!!
  3. I've been dying to eat refried Beans with melted cheese (after reading posts). Not all that cracked up to be but it's substance. Funny- I made half cup of beans with 1/4 cup cheese. Need my Protein because I refuse to eat any more whey protein powders after this nasty rash. So at my follow up I'm still 14 pounds down all done in the first week - none in second. I'm ok with that. I feel like I've learned so much from these posts and my own research that I kinda know why and what to expect. So thank you veterans of VSG!!! Ummmm - oh they found a bunch of cysts on my ovaries and apparently also a nodule which was biopsied and it did come back abnormal. Oh oh. Gotta see a Gynochologist. I don't have one. Well I do now after her recommendation. Again- not really worried. Thank you all VSG-ers. This has been a wonderful journey. I had some very very minor bumps. I'm doing splendid. They were shocked today that when they pushed on my belly it want tender at all. They also took my staples out. I spazzed over that and they knew I would becuse I'm a freak. I didn't feel a thing! Hahahahahahahahahha. I crack myself up sometimes. Ok- on to finish what I can of these beans and then I must wait 30 minutes to drink. That will take some getting used to. 2 more weeks off of work. Love my doctor! She has been so wonderful!

    Am I In Bandser Hell?

I am nearly 6 weeks post op and I get my first fill on the 16th. I can tell you the half cup doesn't work for me right now. I tried and tried and my blood sugar would drop till I got sick. I am cutting back now so I have an easier time adjusting to my half cup after I have a fill, but until this week I have pretty much given up on the half cup at a time. Some people may be able to do it, but I can not do a half a cup at a time with no restriction. I don't eat anywhere near as much as I used to, but I do more than half a cup.

    Increased Restriction After Abdominoplasty

Hey.... i wish my PS had left at least some of my fill in. He removed it all. He said that he had a bad experience with a patient that refused to let him remove the fill..... she couldn't eat are drink and got dehydrated and had to be put in the hospital. Said that the extra swelling caused the band to be tight. I'm having conflicts about filling it again. I really want to, but kind of enjoying the ability to eat "normal" again. Not over-eating by any means.... but i did eat a piece of toast this weekend.....OMG... was it good. I have gained 3lbs..in the 6 weeks i have had no fill... but i don't think that's too bad.

    1 month after Surgery

I had lapband surgery on June 22, 2009. I'm one month out and I've schedule my 1st fill. I went for a follow-up 2 weeks from sugery and had lost 8 pounds. However, since then I've gained the 8 pounds back and seem to be able to eat almost as much as I did before surgery. I'm very worried that I'm doing something wrong does anyone advice/suggestions??

    Sleeve-related fears

I definitely have the fear of the unknown. I really honestly don't want to get too thin, my build I think doesn't become me at all. I've been too thin before, so I know its true. I just want to be fit and healthy. I want to be able to sustain a marathon someday - but turning myself into a runner I will be on the thinner side. It might be a difficult balance, as its already seeming difficult to stop losing with the sleeve. I'll just have to figure it out when I get there. However, I'm thinking I'll start thinking about stopping once I get to about a size 8, not caring how much I weigh. I'm a 14 right now so I'll begin my pondering in about 3 (6) more sizes.

    Sleeve-related fears

I'm 7 months out and am terrified that the real weight loss is over! The previous month, I lost only 6 lbs. Then last month, only 3 lbs. I try to exercise every day, I try to keep the calories down, I try to keep the carbs down (below 40) and I am nowhere near goal. It is all very very very very depressing.
  10. If you continue to eat that way... waiting for some food to digest then eating a little more, you are essentially "grazing", which is one of the ways WLS patients regain weight. You want to try to avoid that. Once you are all healed up, which you should be at 3 months out, you want to try to confine each "meal" or "snack" to about 20 minutes of eating. Then wait 30-40 minutes before drinking. Then don't eat again until your next scheduled meal or snack. At 3 months out, I was eating 5-6 meals/snacks per day. Trying to get about 10-20 grams of protein in each time. I didn't have much room for vegetables, which is why I was diligent about taking all of my vitamins and supplements.
  11. I have banding from 22 years ago and been struggling with it, and constant weight gain and loss from just after 3 years after getting it. Until the end of last year I was told I had to put up with this, or only have band removed, but learned I can have revision to bypass and in process of having it done now. A new spring of hope has arrived, and thanks to all hear for your input.
  12. I posted under a heading of transfered addictions earlier on another sight - the general one on here. I know i need to go on a 12 step type of program. Was going to get a note book and allow myself say $30 A WEEK to spend, if i dont spend it it adds up. Keep telling myself , or i should say asking myself do i really need it,or do i just want it as it is a good price, trying to turn from clothes food shopping to towels, sheets etc. Anyone out there had the same prob. Any advice ,reading material, etc. greatly appreciated.:confused:n
  13. Hello all. This is my first time on here. Long story short I had the band done in Feb 2006 and lost a little over 100lbs and was at my goal for 3 yrs. Last October I had to let all the fluid out for 6 weeks because I was having heartburn and night coughs. Why so long I don't know. I wish so much that I would have just said no. In that 6 weeks I gained over 20 lbs. Now it won't come off. I have taken some drastic measures to no avail. I no it's not alot but we no where it goes from here. I get so paranoid just thinking about it. My band is as tight as it can go and I still can eat as much as I want. I keep it a little tighter so that there are at least some restrictions. I called my dr's office today to schedule an appt to maybe get a revision to the sleeve. I almost don't want to go because I strongly believe that it's not gonna go well. Insurance, I'm sure will be a big problem. I really only started researching the sleeve today but i'm mostly hearing good things, but i'm wondering if anyone has had any negative experiences with it. I'm afraid to have this done only to have this problem again. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    I love bread

Even 11 months out of surgery I still can't eat but a few bitesof potatoes, bread or Pasta, it just fills my stomach to much. Crispier breads are easier but I like to stay away from the extra carbs. I have been eating thin crust pizza since I was 3 months out. I never had a problem with sauce. I like these magic pop crackers their 15 calories and 4 grams of carbs each and you only need one, there perfect for humas, salsa, pb and j. I love them and their easy to digest. You should get over missing the breads soon as your able to start having regular foods. Good luck with your recovery.
  15. I've been known to not see the forest for the trees meaning I can miss the big picture because I was fixated on a small detail. I've been working on it for decades... literally. Well today I received another wake up call that I can't believe hit me so strongly even though I've been wandering through this "forest" of my weight for quite some time especially considering my family history. Let's start with my family history. I come from a large family that came from large families. By large I mean both in number and in size. My father is 6'2" and he's quite fit and healthy always has been but he's one of the lucky ones. His brothers and sisters are all large - some exceedingly so - but the problems only begin there. Most of my family has high blood pressure. Many have diabetes and of my six brothers and sisters I'm the only one with a weight problem but I'm also the one without high blood pressure or diabetes. I was always lucky like that. But with my weight I always had another fear lingering in my head: my paternal Grandmother. She passed away at 39 years old of a heart attack. My father was hardly 15 years old and she died 5 days before Christmas. She left 8 children that she had nearly back to back and my Grandfather who pined for her until he joined her in heaven nearly 40 years later. She was easily 400lbs but stood well over 6 feet tall and towered over my Grandfather in pictures. I loved her confidence to wear heels and his to stand next to such a statuesque woman. Her death left many scars as you could imagine. Dying that young of heart disease is frightening but when you're the only person in your immediate family who shares her body style it's even more frightening. I remember every, single day of my 39th year wondering if that was going to be me. Is that my lot since I didn't get the other diseases? It was scary. I remember my Aunt saying, "In this family the women through parties when they hit 40!" I wondered if I would hit it too. I did and kept on my yo-yo dieting trail. So what happened today? I had to retest my H. Pylori test since the results were inconclusive. I asked the phelbotomist if she could tell me my A1c since my husband (Type 1 Diabetic) was curious. She asked me if I wanted a print out to compare my numbers after surgery. I said sure. When I got home I started really looking at the results and came across a cardiac test. The range they were looking for was between 1-10 and I got 8.42. I was fine with that. In the range. All of my things were in the range. I was good, right? After looking at it several times I looked at the risk analysis that was in smaller print below it. It said this test determines the presence of inflammation etc with the following risk assessments: Low Risk <1 Med Risk 1-3 High Risk >3 Wait! High Risk is greater than 3 and I'm sitting on 8.42? If I was over 10 they would have most likely done additional testing. Now this isn't the end all be all of risk and I'm sure if it was a major concern my doctor would have told me but I can't shake that I always knew there was a risk and that I was most likely in that risk. But to SEE it was totally different. On days when this is really tough and I can tell just from reading blogs that this is going to be very challenging I will remember this and think of the Grandmother I never got to meet but I share so much DNA with and I will not break down but handle it and live well into my 40s and beyond for BOTH OF US.
  16. my doc gave me a list, first 3 days after surgery = liquid diet days 4-7 full liquid days 8-10 = puree days 11-14 minced week 3 soft week 4 bariatric regular not a whole lot to choose from on the list, everything is fat free, sugar free, and you got the Protein first cottage cheese, mashed pototes, pureed meats, pureed veggies, sf yogurts, cream of wheat, oatmeal, then on week 4 you can pretty much eat anything just cut into tiny pieces, some things like raw veggies, tough fruit and hot peppers are to be avoided for like 6 months hope that helps good luck
  17. Hang in there! What you are going through is perfectly normal. The first week to ten days are the most challenging. It will get better as your body heals more. Be patient to yourself and kind to yourself. Tea really helped warm me on the inside. All my best to you.
  18. From the first education class to the surgery date will be less than 12 weeks. I feel well educated from Kaiser, Bariatriv Pal and friends who have successfully been through the sleeve surgery. I'm so excited and anxious to see what life has I store for me post WLS.
  19. Hi! Thanks for sharing. They paid the Lapband removal. 3 months ago. They denied the sleeve... I self paid had surgery 12/28 and going to try and appeal the denial. So far so good with my sleeve surgery. I was gaining weight the past three months 25 pounds and sleep apnea .. other past issues come back. I didn’t want to gain more .. and let my health go down. Down 11 pounds. :).
  20. Yep.. 6 years, 2 bands and 100 grand down the drain from horrible complication.. I'm hoping for a new life! I guess I shouldn't be complaining about the temporary stall
  21. Ladies feel your pain I lost really good first two weeks then stalled and even gained third week. Finally I have broken through. I begin to eat every three hours. Taking my surgoens advice I uped my calories a bit from 600-700 to 1000. This would help get me out of starvation mode. I don't know if will help you all but it did me. I know your frustration hope you see less of you soon

    going out of town

I went out of town a couple of weeks ago and brought mio drink flavoring. It helped if I wanted something other than water at a restaurant. What stage are you in? It might help to find a store at your destination that has protein drinks...I was only gone a couple of days and I really fell down on my protein for a couple days!

    scars 3 months post surgery

    From the album: Tiggergramma's journey

You can see 3 of the 5 scars here, there is another one to the left of the lower one on the left and one clear to the right of the photo. So, what you can see here (I had to take the photo myself, so it was hard to get the whole thing, since my arms are only so long...) is the one clear up top, the one directly over my band in the center, the one on my right side, almost the one where my port is on my left side (right side of the photo), and you cannot see another smaller one to the left of my port site.

    Worries

You don't lose weight just because of fills. When you find a level of restriction you are comfortable at you might stay there for years- and still lose and then maintain. It is time to start walking. Start with 15 minutes a day and go slowly. You will feel better within a week, I promise. Get a friend to go with you. Your weight loss will steadier and you will be more confident in reaching your goals.
