My mental battle with Food and the scale

Happy New Year, I was Sleeved on Dec 7th and only have lost 18 pounds. I see so many postings of people loosing up 40 pounds. I'm little disappointed but I guess every body is different. Good luck Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App I had rny the same day and have only lost 11 lbs. But I also have severe fibromyalgia and arthritis so it's not as easy to exercise. One day at a time. We'll all get there. Sent from my SM-S903VL using the BariatricPal App Yes we will. Have you tried Swimming? Its less strain on your joints but works your whole body. I joined my local YMCA and swim every Tuesday & Thursday Sent from my N9518 using the BariatricPal App Don't have anything like that here, no access to pools. I bought an exercise bike so I'm trying to get at least 10 miles a day. Sent from my SM-S903VL using the BariatricPal App

My mental battle with Food and the scale

You're doing great! It took me about 50 lbs. to lose a size. I was also told that I was on track. I think there's such a lot between 400 to 299 to 199 and then some that the period between those '99's can become overwhelming. But the feeling of hitting a new '99 is the best feeling in the world! I keep two pieces of motivation in the bathroom by the scale. It's all fun and games until your jeans don't fit; and, Small progress is still progress. Also seen in internet travels: I can't lose 100 lbs. But I can lose 10 lbs. 10 times.
  3. What a lovely picture of the two of you...happy and looking healthy !!! <3 37 years...so wonderful. My wonderful Wayne and I have been together 10...married for 2 on 12/12... he is my light as well...always there for me; it's a wonderful amazing thing... especially, if you are like me, and feel you don't deserve a man like that Congratulations and good luck on all things ahead...

    Insurance costs more than cash?

That really sucks (and I can think of some other worse words to use too!) I'm sorry you are having this battle. I hope there is some relief for you in there when you are done battling. Like Rob said, I hope you can find out if you have an out-of-pocket maximum, because that would certainly help if it is a reasonable amount. Is there a medical insurance board for TX? Keep fighting and I hope you get somewhere with this. We have a high-deductible (HSA) and knew once we hit the $5K out of pocket for 2010 then everything would be billed at 90% (insurance portion) and 10% (our portion) but what was impossible to tell was what the final bill would eventually be. I was shocked when I logged onto my HSA account a few weeks post-surgery to find out that the bill was over $33,000 for my sleeve (that was just the hospital bill) and I knew that my drs. self-pay price was $20,000. I cannot for the life of me figure out how anyone can get away with that. However, NO ONE will be paying that large of a bill. The discounts were huge, it really is all rather silly to put that on paper knowing full well that NO ONE is paying $33,000. I'm still not sure I understand how it all works, but thankfully we didn't even have to pay 10% of that price. We only paid 10% of the "discounted" price...phew!

    My MX VSG Experience

  7. Hi ya' all who read this thread. I just want to be heard and find a connection with people who have a similar story. Here it goes... I have been overweight all my life. I can only remember a few times when I wasn't. I grew up with two brothers who ate what they wanted and were at normal weight. My mother would go out of her way so I would diet. I have been on every diet imaginable from SlimFast, to diet pills from GNC, joined gyms, Doctor paid for medically diets and exercised programs, Soup diet, cabbage diet, south beach, WW,.....on and on.... Some worked others were a joke..... But needless to say gained it all back. I am right now the biggest I have been in my life. I am so unhappy with my weight. I feel as thought a different person in my is trying to get out but none of what I do helps for the longterm. I am tired of feeling the shame, of looking in a room to see if I am the biggest person or not. but mostly I am tired of the loose, gain...loose gain...gain twice as much as I lost...etc... I researched last weekend gastric bypass as it has been something on my mind for years now..but couldn't help feel guilty or like a failure for turning to what some people refer to as the "EASY" way. I know I need a medical intervention to win this battle and be at a lifetime healthy weight. So I got over it and researched this past Weekend and came across this lap-band. I love it...I have decided this is what I need. I scheduled to what I thought was the informational seminar yesterday. It was an info seminar alright, but for Opti-Fast...what the crap...insurance does not pay, can only be cash or financed with the lender of the choice and cost $5,000. yeah right...walked right out... waisted 4 hours of my day in traffic, and away from family for that! So I called the number I called initially and was finally scheduled for the correct seminar but i have to wait until 12/5/07. My only concerns now are this. I am 5'2" and W 233lbs home scale. No comorbidities.... have documented doctor program from beg of this year in January until July 2007. Prior to that back in 2005 was the last doctor monitored program I did. I can probably get weight info from my gynecologist when my daughter was born back in 2002 of my weight prior and after pregnancy as I believe was a bmi slightly under insurance guidelines. I will have AETNA HMO effective 01/1/2008. I am snoring at night and began having asthma which I believe is weight related as well. My questions are as follow: Does anyone have any advise of how my case looks? Do I stand a chance at getting approval without a long battle? What is the process after attending the informational seminar all the way to the doctor's submittal to the insurance? HELP desperate to know!!:help::confused::confused:

    Have to Brag

On Saturday I ran 10 miles for my half marathon training! I'd been dreading it all week, because 9 miles the previous weekend had been really tough, but I feel like I had some sort of breakthrough with the 10 miles. I felt like I could have kept going (which I guess is good, because I'll have to keep going soon!). My half marathon is only 5 weeks away now and I am really starting to believe I'll be able to actually do it!

    Calling Dr. today

Hey Pamla68, Love your tagline--that's Jill Scott, right? I'm new to all this myself-just had an information session last week and it solidified for me what I need to do to get going with this process of having the insurance approve me for the surgery. It's scary, but so worth it. i think it's a bit more scary to find out in 30 years that the extra weight was a contributing factor to your early demise. I'm scared of living in the shadows the rest of my life, I'm only 37 and I feel 10 years older. let's make this journey together, I'm ready if you are! Best, Mari

    I'm BACK!

Yes, my old self is back! I was up at 5am and headed to the gym. My menu has been clean, I've been eating clean and my jeans are getting loose on me again. I bought myself a present today. I bought a SIZE 8 coat. It was a little snug, but not too tight that I couldn't wear it, however, its a freaken size 8. I want to scream it out to everyone here at work, I want to show everyone the tag, its a size 8. I can't even remember the last time I bought a size 8, but I think it was like in 8th grade or maybe 7th. Anyhow, I know its made a little different, and normally I would not buy an 8, I buy 10's or 12, but I decided by next winter, I will be wearing it with no tightness. I'm just excited I can put it on, and button it! A size 8 people, did you hear me, a size 8! Okay, here is my today plan: 5am - Recumbant bike - 30 min Hip Abductor - outer thighs - 3 sets of 12 - 70 lbs Hip Abductor - inner thighs - 3 sets of 12 - 70 lbs Seated leg press - Quads - 3 sets of 15 - 70 lbs Laying leg curls - Hamstrings - 3 sets of 12 - 20 lbs (this killed my knee) Incline sit ups - Abs - 3 sets of 25 PM exercise - (3:00 pm) 15 min on Elliptical machine Menu Bfast egg white omlet made with 1 turkey sausage link and 1 canadian bacon Lunch coffee w/cream - very tired - Drank before I ate - I do not drink while eating. apple with pnut butter (2 TBSP) 3 oz of chicken breast Dinner spinach chicken wings (baked with hot sauce) Suppliments - quickslim30, multi-vitamin

  13. Yes, there were times when I did not follow the pre-op diet instruction the doctor gave me. I would have Protein Snacks, like cheese or eggs. I was suppose to have two liquid Protein shakes and 1 protein meal. I did lose 10 pounds pre-op. I believe my BMI at surgery was 41 or 40.5. Yes, I am now banded on my first and only surgery appointment with the band. No, I was not cancelled, but this was a fear of mine.

    Upper arm compression sleeves?

Hey guys, I just ordered one of these today because I swear by wearing a compression garment. I am not sure how much they help really with the extra skin, but I know I work out about 10 times better when I am not flopping all around and feel nice and secure. So maybe something like this could help with your arms. It's similar to the one Spanx sells, but with sleeves and a little cheaper, but the even 3x is really not as big as you would think, so check the sizing chart first to see if this is an option. Check it Out!!
  15. I had mine out about 10 years ago so a long time before surgery. I was up and fine in a day or two with that surgery.

    Mexican Bandsters

I was banded by Dr. Contreras Guarista at the Versalles Center in Tijuana, Mexico on January 12, 2008. He is an excellent doctor and was extremely friendly. I felt very comfortable with him. I lost 10 lbs my first week. I am thrilled!!!

Do I have to much restriction??

hey hum-the same exact thing happend to me...I had to leave work to hussle over to the docs office, they tried to locate my port and after poking at me 3 times, she ended up giving me local and it took her another 10 minutes to find the port. It hurt so bad and now I'm all black and blue!

    5 Days Post-Op!

I too was banded 10/29...feeling alot of back pain and walking alot to eleviate the gas pain....hiccups for a few minutes the first day after surgery...doing better today but need to take lots of Milk of Magnesa...due to the anathesia I would assume...30 pounds is also my goals as my older children will all be home for the holidays, first time in 2 years and they do not know that I had the surgery, surprise.

    Any Montifiore Sleevers?

Well I've tried weight watchers, takeing ripid fuel, Jenny Craig, I've even gone cold turkey since July of this year and stopped eating fast food period and low and behold I'm still my size then I've tried eating smaller meals but then I get lightheaded because I'm still hunger and then the big one I've signed up to a job but my weight prevents me from doing bike riding the way I want or even running so I've resorted to walking practically everywhere just to strengthen my heart...but when its all said and done I'm only losing like 5 to 10 pounds...so that's why I have made the decision to do the surgery
  20. one other thing i will tell you. if you order a dress from china (which i did by accident) an XL is apparently a size 10 there. smh. and even then it's tight! also the quality sucks. like i literally brought a whole nother change of clothes just in case this dress ripped down the middle seam. just an fyi.

    Regaining weight, help!!

That depends on what surgery you had, which I don't see you have listed. With my BPD-DS I am supposed to, but I haven't been all that good about doing so and haven't had any ill effects. I believe its suggested that bypass patients take vitamins regularly. I didn't think it was as important for the gastric sleeve since that is not a malabsorption procedure. Did you doctor ever advise you about vitamin supplements? I had my surgery in Aug 2018 and lost over 100% of my excess weight, but I regained about 30 pounds from a (too low) 133 pounds in 2020. Even with that was still below 25 BMI. My fault, too many sweets and high carb processed junk food. Still have good restriction, and I've lost 10 of that 30 pounds so far in less than a month eating mostly salads with custom no-oil vinaigrettes, and lean meat and veg dinners. My preferred proteins have been tilapia and premier protein shakes. If I get hungry between meals I'll have an apple, which fills me pretty well.

    Still seeing a fat girl?

My general practitioner said he is concerned with my desire to keep losing weight. He said if I lose another 10 lbs and still feel like I need to lose more, than he wants to see me again to evaluate to body image issue. I just feel like I need to lose so much more. I am going to talk to a therapist soon though. And thank you very much for the compliment!
