    Clothes shopping weirdness...can you relate?

    I can totally relate to this thread! I was a 3x, but maybe I was a 2x and I just got used to things being big? Now I'm a large... and I only have a few things left from when I had lost 100lbs 7 years ago. However, I have decided not to buy anything except food and COVID supplies (I bought masks and tests) for the month of January, so I'll have to wait a few more weeks. I wish we had a good re-sale shop near me, but the thrift shop I found doesn't have changing rooms so I find it very frustrating to shop there. I should look around more. I've been trying to get things from my local buy nothing group, but I haven't gotten anything good yet. I don't understand the juniors vs. misses thing. I always thought that juniors was for teenagers, so the styles were very "young" and the fits were not curvy, but I see a lot of people on this site saying they are wearing juniors clothes, so maybe I'm wrong, or it's changed since I was a kid. I am sort of a conservative dresser; I tend to wear Talbots, LL Bean, Chico's, J Jill... or, maybe I'm just old!!! Maybe it's just that I'm used to these stores because they all had plus sizes? I look around the mall and I feel like most of it is just junk and pretty trashy looking. What are some other US brands that are high quality?
  2. Don’t fret! It’s normal . I had my surgery on 12/17 and lost 13.5 lbs the first week. I stalled at week 2,3,&4. In week 5 now and the scale is finally moving again.. thank the lord. the 3 week stall can be 3 weeks or less. It doesn’t necessarily start in the 3rd week after surgery, but it’s normal. Just stop weighing yourself b/c if your like me it will make you think you are the problem. It’s common and you will be on your way soon again.
  3. I was scheduled for Feb 2, everything was on track… but then I got covid the beginning of January so I was feeling rather rough. I got a call last week from my surgeons office, they needed to reschedule my pre-surgery consult due to the surgeon having to shuffle his surgery schedule - originally scheduled for this week (no big deal). When talking to his office scheduler I mentioned I needed an end of day appointment - I understood that may push me out a bit but my husband wanted to come and as he had just been in quarantine he wouldn’t be able to take off for a day time appointment right away. Our original appointment was at 4, we were asking for an appt after 3:15 if possible. This was our last chance to ask questions of the surgeon and honestly my first appointment with him was not one that left me confident. In fact there were a few different times when going through appointments with various people through this program… my husband and I both questioned is this the right place/program? Well the last straw for me was when the scheduler essentially blew me off asking “this really is a very brief appointment - does your husband really need to be there?” I was dumbfounded… Ummm yes, he’s my primary supporter, he’s the one who will be helping me through this and I’m blessed he’s been so amazing throughout this process. I told her I would call her back. I immediately told my husband about the exchange and expressed my concerns. He agreed they had been dismissive in other areas and agreed he was not entirely comfortable with this program, but was supportive of whatever I wanted to do. I took a few days to think about it and during that time the practice manager reached out to me to reschedule but I relayed to her that while my program coordinator was amazing, I had several other appointments where my concerns and questions were dismissed and my initial appointment with the surgeon left me with more questions than I had answers. At this time I didn’t feel moving forward with their program was the right decision for me and I was going to be looking elsewhere to find a new program. So essentially I fired my surgeon. I know that I was having reservations about this surgery right from the beginning… and I had red flags that I kept discussing with my husband - things that just didn’t feel quite right. Now I am overwhelmed at starting the process all over again - looking for a new program… wondering will it be the same somewhere else? Did I do the right thing or was I just not feeling well and over reacted? Obviously I’m second guessing myself … I think I did the right thing. But now I don’t know what the next step is or where to start over at.

    90 Minutes of Cardio Every Morning

    I walk outside nearly every day (minimum 5, usually 6-7 days a week). I walk anywhere between 2 miles and 6 miles. My usual walking route is 3.25 miles and it takes me almost exactly an hour. I prefer walking outside to using a gym because it "traps" me. There comes a point at around 1.5 miles where my legs start to feel heavy and I'm a bit tired and I honestly want to quit. At the gym, it is very tempting to hit the pause on the treadmill and call it a day. But if I am walking outside, I am 1 to 1.5 miles away from home. Unless I want to call my wife to pick me up (which I did once when I felt like I might be close to dehydration/heat exhaustion), I have to suck it up and walk home. And then I keep telling myself this quote, "Everything you want is on the other side of hard."

    90 Minutes of Cardio Every Morning

    I do too little and only walking. Short dog walks 4 days a week (about a mile) and Longer (about 3 miles) the other 3 days. I would like to get back to running eventually and the dog would love it but I'm too heavy at the minute (knees!) I do have a cross trainer in the house but it's boring and I use it about once a week. What you're doing is amazing - where do you get the time???

    90 Minutes of Cardio Every Morning

    I do 45-60 minutes of cardio 5-6 days a week, plus 2-3 days of strength training. for cardio, I walk, do water aerobics, Zumba, cardio dance/walking youtube videos, or (when the weather cooperates), bike. There's also a seated elliptical at my gym that I'll "ride" occasionally.

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

    I am starting my 2 week pre diet today. I can say that after 2 hours, all is well. LOL
  8. Except for a couple of days with the stomach flu and 2 snow days I've been to the gym every single day since November 22nd. Even when I couldn't make it to the gym, I've worked out at home by grabbing some soup cans, marching and tapping around the house, dancing, just moving doing anything I could, squats, etc. I don't do lunges!!!! 😀 So starting January 1st I noticed I was hitting 10,000 steps per day between working out at the gym for an hour and then again for 20-30 minutes at home later in the day. I've done 18 days in a row exceeding 10,000 steps. My new goal has been to get the whole 10k steps in while at the gym, which is a little harder because it takes 90 minutes to get them all in. So this morning I made it to 8,000 steps at the gym and now I need to get 20 more minutes / 2000 more steps in at home. I get 90 minutes of cardio in every day before lunch one way or another. I also did 15 minutes of strength training/weight machines this morning, but they didn't really register me any steps. I'm thinking about adding some weight lifting to my daily routine or maybe every other day starting in February. How much cardio do you do each week? What's everybody else been doing this New Year?

    An Ode To Cauliflower

    I bought a cauliflower crust frozen pizza a couple of weeks ago. Haven't tried it yet. I think it's called "CauliPOWER" or something funny. I haven't gotten into the whole cauliflower mashed potatoes, etc. yet. I need to give it a try.

    Stalls are not unheard of here. they are really common and to be expected with weight loss surgery. So tell us a little more about you (it would really help if you filled in your profile...height, start weight, current weight, surgery or procedure)... Have you lost 26lb since surgery , since before pre-op surgery...lost more but gained weight since surgery?

    My surgery was November 26, I've only lost 26 pounds. Been on a stall for 3 weeks! Not one ounce lost. I'm so upset. Actually it showed I gained a pound. I get 90% of my water in and all my protein in. No changes in my measurements either Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Before and After Photos

    Not a food before & after more of a no food issue. The shelves are bare at the supermarket again this week & I’m really struggling to find the products I buy regularly that form a big part of my eating regime. Been having to make some poor food choices: processed foods & not the raw ingredients I prefer to buy. Calories are increasing & I’m struggling to meet my protein goal. It’s not a hoarding issue as such here in Australia at the moment, it’s a supply chain problem. No workers, no transport drivers, no logistics handlers, etc. (Damn all those young people who had to go out en masse to celebrate Christmas & New Year, got sick then infected their families, friends & co workers.) So even if a company has some staff & can produce produce a reduced volume of goods, they’re struggling to get it transported to the grocery store distribution centres & then to the actually stores. Last week & again this week I couldn’t buy rolled oats, lactose free milk, high protein yoghurt, chicken tenders, prawns, protein bars, tinned mixed beans, water, etc. plus not as urgently washing powder & toilet paper. Of course there seemed to be pallets of coke & chips. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I even went to a couple of different stores to see what I could find. It had been occurring for a couple of months on random items but the last fortnight has been terrible. They’re saying this could continue for another month. I said to the checkout girl that this must be what it was like in Russia back in the 70s & 80s when they had to line up for bread & other essentials. She looked at me blankly but she was barely 18. 😉

    Cheated on my pre op

    My pre-op diet was packaged protein-based foods (mostly soups, drinks, bars, and there was an egg thing that you mixed a seasoning and protein packet into), and it was SO HARD--a lot of it didn't taste very good and I was sooooooo hungry. I cheated on the diet a few times and ate "real" food and still managed to lose 11 pounds in 3 weeks and there were no issues with getting the procedure done...don't beat yourself up about it, get back on the horse and try your best to stick with it until your surgery. I think every one of us who has been through it sympathizes with your situation though, that pre-op diet sucks.

    Struggling

    I'm about 4 months out from my sleeve--and I've had a lot of bumps along the way (really bad acid reflux about a month in that caused me to aspirate and develop bacterial pneumonia that landed me in the hospital for a week). It's only been in the last few weeks that my diet has resembled my plan, and I still fall short of my protein goals without planning--I'm supposed to be getting 60 grams and the only way I seem to be able to accomplish that is by supplementing with drinkable protein. I mix Vital Proteins Collagen with Mio (18g of protein) and make myself drink it between breakfast and lunch. Whey protein doesn't seem to agree with me, but the collagen supplement is basically tasteless and kind of disappears into the drink. Establishing a routine and analyzing what will best facilitate it being "easy" for you is key (for instance, I work at home, and I leave my vitamins/meds on my desk so they're in my face in the morning after I eat breakfast). The 30 minutes to drink gets shorter the more accustomed you become to it, and I've gotten in the habit of setting a timer on my phone or Apple Watch immediately after I start to feel full.

    Pouch reset

    I can tell you as a woman that breast fed and produced barely enough milk, the hunger is beyond imagination. A whole large pizza with tons of toppings was one meal! The hunger was that ferocious! Those hormones take about a year to reset and now you are evaluating your goals. I agree with the above, start with your team. Journal to weigh pros and cons of more surgery or weight loss. Honestly, after month three I realized the rest of the weight loss is entirely up to me. Surgery is not a magic bullet. Weight loss is work no matter how you do it. How hard and consistent is really up to you.
  20. Hi all. Wanted to check in and see how folks are doing? I had my sleeve 12/9 and the weight loss is slowing already. Nutritionist says I’m right on track but it sure is hard not to see the scale moving. I’m tracking 100%, hitting my protein and staying well within calories. It can’t stay stalled forever right? also how the heck do you update current weight? I figured it out

    Hives

    I had those as well during week 3. The PA at my surgeon's office thought it might be the ursodiol (as that can be a side effect, although it's a not common one), so he had me get off those completely and then after about two weeks, gradually get back on. So I did - hives never came back after I got back on....so it likely wasn't the ursodiol. I also learned after having plastic surgery c. three years later that I was allergic to the adhesive they used or the surgical tape. I guess that could have been the case with my gastric bypass, too.

  24. I went into a stall and really thought it wasn’t going to work for me. I totally understand how you feel. Mine started around day 10-11 and I saw my Nutritionist last week. She cleared me to start eating soft foods which I did the past 2 days and today I finally started loosing again! So have patience- which is easier said then done I know. I started at 227 and today I am 197.7. VSG 12/22/2021. Be patient with yourself, follow your program, see your Nutritionist if you can mine helped me not just food wise but mentally and emotionally to know I was on the right track. Also I am walking 3 miles a day so walk as much as you can it didn’t help me in the stall but it lifts my spirits and better than sitting on the couch! Also I can’t go outside due to weather so this is all in the house and not all at once
  25. I drink sugar free Gatorade- I’ll take it and mix it with water and my son got me a sugar free body armor I asked my surgeon and nutritionist if it was ok both said yes. So I get the big bottles and I’ll sip on 1/2 of one a day with my water. I’ve never had an issue to the water and hit my 64 ounce goal within in the first week but I drank a lot of water before surgery. Also I keep it on my night stand so if I wake up for any reason I take several sips of the water. It helps.
