    Fill and Refill

What does your dr say? Is he/she worried that you're not feeling restriction yet? It's probably too early to consider a revision surgery until you've filled up your whole band and still have no restriction. And that's definitely something to talk with your surgeon about! Maybe your dr needs to check if there's a puncture in the band (e.g. could it be leaking and not filling up all the way)? Maybe they should do an x-ray to check that it's in the correct position? I'm not sure why you don't feel any restriction. It sounds like you're eating healthy and exercising which is great! All I can think of is to seek help from the experts and make them really work for you!

Can't Figure This All Out…Need Help!

@@ItsTheNewMe Yes I was a revision. Banded in 2001 at 272, never got under 200#. About 18-24 months post op I had to have all Fluid removed due to intolerable reflux and vomiting and i began the regain train. My highest weight (recorded) was about 2005 when I weighed 332 at weight watchers. I lost 85# add hung out in the 240-260 range for many years. I got pretty depressed after my sister died and my weight shot up into the upper 200s ... i would diet like made and lose 30, but then would regain 40.... you know the story. When my band was removed I weighed "about" 300#. The day I started my sleeve preop diet I was 308# and is my official start weight in Dec 2011 I went on to lose 150# in 14 months post sleeve and have been maintaining in the ballpark of my goal ever since. I learned alot of lessons along the way. The band failed me, but i also didn't really know how to eat correctly to be successful at this whole thing. I have really taken to heart the knowledge that the WLS tool was critical to my success (I could not lose massive weight presleeve) but my own choices behavior are at least 75% of the credit/winning the battle. I am quite sure you will do great, it is just a hard time those early weeks/months. I didn't feel good until about 12 weeks post sleeve... i wasnt in misery that whole time, but I didn't feel good.
  3. The appeal process sounds so scary to me! But my surgeon told me getting an approval for revision is very tricky. He said if I were going for an initial surgery for bypass, that he'd already have me approved. Years ago when I was trying to get approved for the band with Tricare, my surgeon sent the paperwork in on Thursday, and I had an approval Monday morning. It was easy. I didn't have to do the psych eval or any kind of 3-6 month diet program. I did the nutrition class, heart and lung testing, and that's it. I started the process in August 2010, approval at the end of October, he wanted to schedule my surgery for December 19 but I was going to be traveling 14 hours in a car 4 days after that, so it didn't make sense. So we rescheduled it to January 20, 2011.

First..I noticed that you are a revision patient. Me Too!! Lapband put in Sept. 2006. WORST mistake eva!! Believe you me, My eyes are on this prize. I am forever grateful that the sleeve is NOTHING close to the daily struggles I had with the lap band. I am incredibly positive and excited to be on the road to better health, attractive, and a great role model for my daughter and her health!! So…you are right. A great attitude is soooo imperative. I just have to get some traction after these past few days. )) Thank you soooo much!! Warm herbal tea. Yum!
  5. I'm 51 and had my RNY in Dec 2014. Wow, I'm glad I did the bypass right off the bat after hearing of all the revisions. I just hope down the road I still feel it was the right decision for me. I reached my goal in an amazing 9 months. It hasn't been an easy 9 months but so worth it. My issues have been and still are nausea and constipation. It's getting better slowly with time. But other than that, getting down to a size smaller than when I was in high school goes beyond my wildest dreams. I'm so happy and wish I'd done this many years ago. Best of luck to all of you!
  6. APPEAL APPEAL APPEAL.... if you are denied you have every right to appeal up to 3x w/ BCBS and most of the time they will take the appeal b/c they know you are willing to fight for it!! Get your PCP and bariatric surgeon to help w/ that process IF you are denied!! I wish you the very best I am fighting w/ BCBS now for my bypass (not a revision though) !!! Sending positive thoughts!!

To Tell or Not to Tell?

I will be doing the band to sleeve revision and I can say that I told too many people about the lap band. I guess I just believed everyone would be supportive, but now I know that's not the case. I received some support, but also quite a few rude comments. This time around I will be telling a lot fewer people about the sleeve.
  8. Unfortunately I've also read alot of the same, people being approved for removal but not for revision to sleeve or bypass. But as i also have read you can't give up, if you are denied it sounds like you have a very supportive surgeons office who will be able to help you appeal and possibly even do a peer to peer review. Stay positive though, you never know, they could call you with an approval!
  9. I am definitely feeling a bit discouraged right now. I've had the gastric band since January 2011. Since the very beginning, I've had the throwing up/regurgitating. It doesn't matter what I eat, can be chicken, tuna, green Beans, raw veggies, bread, even Water sometimes. I've been compliant and have doctors records. I've had fills and un-fills, I've been on exercise plans, and made good food choices. When I have my band tighter and have any restriction at all, I'm throwing up 2-3+ times per day. My current surgeon (not the one who did the surgery) also said according to the X-ray with the barium swallow, my band is slightly higher than it should be, but not technically "out of place". They had to loosen my band about 2-2.5 months ago (again.. So I only have maybe 2cc in my band) and since then, I've gained about 15-20lbs back. My HW 300, SW 290, LW 230, and CW 270, and I'm 5'5". My surgeon said he'd do everything he can to help me get approved. I've done the nutrition class again and the psych evaluation. They submitted to insurance yesterday, and the RN said I should hear back within 2-3 weeks if I'm approved or not. But I've been reading A LOT of stories of people being denied for revision unless there is a serious complication with the band. I have BCBSNC. The insurance company that originally paid for my gastric band surgery was Tricare Prime, by Dr. William Richards in Mobile, Alabama. I just feel like the band has taken up so much of my life.. I've had it almost five very long years. I've regretted every moment I've had it. It's been hell and I wished I'd have went with the bypass from the beginning
  10. They are both great procedures. If you have diabetes or acid reflux, bypass sounds like a great choice. I revised band to sleeve 4 years ago and have maintained a massive weight loss. .. I am half my former weight and size and maintaining. Sleeve is more than restriction it helped me change my relationship with food.
  11. Read studies to get statistics. They are both good procedures and for me the sleeve has been a much better quality of life than I had with lapband. I lost about 150 post revision... almost 4 years ago. I am currently 3 pounds over goal. I love my sleeve.
  12. I have been banded for over 7 years at this point. It seems that things change so much with the band. At least with mine. MOMENT OF TRUTH! I am not the poster child for lap band. I have lost and gained at least a bazillion pounds in that time. I was 210 at my lowest. I stay round 275 these days. Well it's time to kick it into gear, one last chance before searching out info for a revision. For sure I am the tightest in the morning. If I drink a cup of coffee or tea, I loosen up enough to take my pills. After that I can barley get anything through. Lately I have been sipping Water or SF lemonade letting the sip go all the way. Sometimes I time myself and only take a sip if the time is an even number. lunch has been small lately, but for years I'd fight and fight to get anything down. Usually regurgitating several times a meal. sometimes end up vomiting. By dinner I am able to eat a half a side of beef... My life is in no way a regular life. I drive truck and start between 3-4am, work way too many hours, eat on the go, get little sleep, and the stress level is out of sight due to the cargo I carry. I'm getting pretty tired of not being my ideal weight, so here we go again. I'm not sure if I'm asking a question here, or if I just curious of what others deal with. Feel free to tell me how your band acts from day to day. Thanks for taking the time to read this post!

    Interesting, what people notice.

Hope you feel ok and please give us banders the inside scoop on port revision⭐️.....and placement area I gather each doc puts them in different places????
  15. What are you eating/drinking? From what I've read on here band to sleeve revision folks have to work a little harder to lose. If you aren't following the recommended eating guidelines that's likely the reason why you aren't losing. Weight loss starts in the kitchen not the gym.
  16. Same situation here! My surgeon just submitted to insurance (BCBSNC) yesterday - so we'll see what happens. I'm very nervous I'll be denied.. I've read a lot of stories of people getting denied for a revision unless there's serious complications??

  19. Actually, you can revise a sleeve to bypass. They take the remaining portion of stomach and treat it as if there was no sleeve, and turn that into a pouch, and create an anastomosis to the intestine. I would imagine this might work if the leak is in the portion of stomach this sewn up and bypassed, but the surgeon can answer that question. The sleeve was originially intended to be the first surgery before a duodenal switch, not the first step of gastric bypass. They are two different procedures. To the OP, so sorry to hear this! I have heard one other person on the boards report a leak a year out, so I know it can happen. Wishing your husband a speedy recovery.

    My Texas Sleevers

Checking in from Spring Tx. Had my revision from the Lapband to Sleeve surgery August 17th. Dr. Turnquest is my surgeon (love him & his staff). I'm doing great so far. Still low energy but feeling better every day.
  21. Hi, I wanted to follow up with you about the fold above our belly buttons. My surgeon told me Monday it is from being a bariatric patient and the loss of skin elasticity. When we shrink as we loose weight our skin sags both vertically and horizontal. When the do the lower body lift, they can pull the skin down to make it smooth and initially it all looks flat bc of the swelling. As we heal the swelling goes down and we see the crease. People who have a midline incision initially won't see it bc their skin is pulled both was the first time. But that's not a pretty scar. So I still have a spot on my left side that's healing as well as my belly button. I go back in two weeks. At that visit we are going to schedule my revision to fix that crease. Technically you can wait longer to do it. But while I am still off my Humera and hormones, not to mention I am not able to return to working out/ boxing I told her that we can do it soon. I don't want to resume my normal life, take the time to get back to working out only to stop again in a few months. I know myself well enough to know I won't take the time for the revision later. While I didn't ask exact details on how she will do this revision she said I will be back to full restriction afterwards. Boo. Monday I was super swollen bc I did too much Sunday. I had cut back on wearing my binder too. But she said until my incision is totally healed I have to wearit. It really does help with swelling. Luckily it's getting cooler out and I can wear sweats. It looks like it will be my garment of choice until 2016. And no working out/ boxing until after the revision heals. Also 2016. I'm bummed but want this to look good. I paid right at $15 thousand. To me that's a lot of money. Hope the explanation helps. Take care! Holly

Nervous about Sleeve to RNY revision

There are various reasons for revision. Mine include a sleeve that is twisted and now distended at the top because the food is not emptying the stomach the way it should. It then backs up and caused GERD. I also lost 43lbs by 11months post op and gained that back in pregnancy. My sleeve needs to be fixed. But my dr feels revision is a better option in my case.
  23. Had my port revision yesterday. Glad it's over is all I can say. But here's my takeaway story for the day. So I'm wearing the horrible hospital gown with the sock thingies on as well and waiting with the BF for my surgeon to come in to see me. Already got alot of comments from the nursing staff about the weight loss and was OK with it knowing it would stop once I went home. So as you likely know, the surgical floor is kept fairly cold and while waiting for the surgeon, I tucked my legs up under myself to keep warm. The surgeon walks in and first thing she says after good morning is 'well...look who's all curled up in the chair there.' Figures she would spot that right away knowing that was an impossible position for me at one time. A NSV is a NSV no matter where it happens...

    Port revision booked

I had my port revision surgery this morning. All went well and I just have some pain in the ab muscle since they buried the new port pretty deep. I think I might actually go back to work tomorrow, and I'm just taking Tylenol instead of the prescription painkillers. I don't want to jinx it, but I'm surprised at how well I'm actually feeling
  25. Don't have any answers yet... but I go in for band to bypass revision this Saturday... I also had tons of issues with my 8 year old lapband... I did have a good 90lb weight loss but after my pregnancy it slipped and landed me in the ER not able to swallow even spit for 5 days... lived off an IV pretty much... not fun. From what I've read the band to bypass revision people have said bypass is 100% better, you feel full, no GERD, no puking... Im very excited!
