  1. Wow, you have been so successful! I have stayed at the same weight for months and am so frustrated. I am 189 lbs. and really should be around 160. Until recently, I have not been able to eat any meat, I cannot eat eggs as they make me gag. Now, I can tolerate a small amount of white chicken that I mix with a little olive oil mayo and put on some Wasa Bread. Until the last month, I feel as though I probably ate under 500 calories a day, and now that I am more hungry and eating more often, I am gaining weight. I would love to hear from anyone who has any advice and I'd love to hear what has worked for you! Please help me get to a healthier weight. I'm feeling desperate at this point.
  2. I am not sure that there really is anything your mother can do but wait until May. She could look for another surgeon but I know with mine (Dr Watson at SJOG Murdoch) there was a waiting time of almost 3 months just to get in and see him for my first appointment. May isn't too far away, maybe your mum could do a gentle version of optisfast or something from now until then to give her a great kickstart with the weight loss? Not much help I know..but I guess this can happen to any of us if our surgeon comes down ill Lou

    Weight is limiting my life.

I did not realize how much weight does affect your periods until I started on this journey my self. Yes, I have heard that is true...but there might be more to for it to go that long with out one. Ya know for me, when I started to feel the way you feel, which is were I am right now, I knew it was time for help. HANG in there, it is a long process....but I know it is going to be worth it!!!

    Weight is limiting my life.

Am still waiting for my doctor to submit to my insurance company. My POP sent all of my medical records to my GYN instead of the bariatric doctor. How frustrating. Had to have a D&C and biopsy's two weeks ago after having had no period fo 4 years. I have been reading that being overweight can create too much estrogen. I did not know this. Is this true? Having trouble driving because I have a stick shift car and my stomach is now becoming an issue. How very embarrasing. Have a bad knee and am using that as an excuse to look at an automatic. I really hope I can get this lap band surgery done because I feel I am just about out of options and the extra weight is compromising my ablility to live the life I want.
  5. The sweet spot doesn't mean u can't eat certain foods..I wasn't able to tolerate pasta with no fill also bread. There's just certain foods that expand or don't break down while in the band..doesn't make it the sweet spot. Just means don't eat it bc its a "problem" food. Are u continuing to lose weight..like 1-2 lbs a week? If so, then u may not need the fill right away..but if its slower and stalling a lil then I would get the fill. U should be able to eat food that's the size of ur whole palm/hand..minus the fingers. My doc made that visual connection for me and it helps..but yea if ur not losing wat u should then get the fill. Good luck

Crock Pot Chicken and Black Bean Chili

Wow Miss Diva I am so impressed with your weight loss, most of the gals on this site started in the 200's but I started at 335 lbs day of surgery and have lost 20 lbs already, you are an inspiration!
  7. I feel the same way, have only had one fill. my surgery was 9/1/2010. How much weight have you lost post surgery? I am down 12lbs, feel like I need another adjustment.

    sleeve to rny

Would you qualify for a revision at this weight or does your BMI have to be higher? Would this be self-pay?

    sleeve to rny

I wouldn't consider plastics until you've been at or close to goal weight for 6 months to a year. It doesn't seem like you've given it enough time yet to even consider a revision. I would get back to the basics and on track with your eating and try to lose more before I'd make any decisions. Good luck whatever you decide.

    sleeve to rny

Why are you considering rny or plastics? To lose more weight? Have you tried tweaking your diet? You may be able to lose more weight without revising your surgery I personally would not consider plastics unless I was happy with my weight and stable for awhile. Give us more info and we will try to help you with your questions. Are you still sticking to your eating plan?

    Need Some Help!!

I need some help getting back on track. I developed a painful blood clot in my leg after surgery. It was scary and the treatment lasted a few months. Then a couple of weeks ago I was fired from my job because of missing time at work because of doctors appointments for my leg. I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses, but it's been a hard time for me so my weight loss took back seat to everything else. I really can't eat a whole lot with 4cc's in my band, but during this time I discovered Ben & Jerry's!!!!! :phanvan I never really ate ice cream before my surgery but that stuff is good and I found I can eat a wole pint with no problem with my band. Now, my boyfriend keeps buying it for me, but I told him not to anymore. I've lost about 40 lbs. total and have stopped losing and I know it's that darn ice cream and milk! I just need some advice to get back on the wagon. Also, maybe some sample daily meal plans that are successful I would REALLY appreciate since I'm still kind of a new banster and I don't know what I'm doing!! :cry Thanks!
  12. Experiencing my first stall. I know it's normal. Just curious if anybody has any tips or something they've tried to break the stall?

    Drink or eat before workout?

I drink a protein shake before I go in and then carry a bottle of water around with my while at the gym. If I didn't have a sleeve as a stomach, then I would probably do things a little differently. Back in the day...before all of this...I would have something like a banana to give me energy for my workouts and then after my workout...I had my high protein meal/shake etc. especially if I was lifting weights. This has what has always been recommended by my fitness trainers.
  14. Actually the sleeve is the first step, for lots of patients, in the duodenal switch surgery,* not the gastric bypass. Many people do revise to bypass, mostly because acid reflux can be caused or exacerbated by the sleeve, while bypass usually cures acid reflux.] *most DS patients have their stomachs sleeved and their intestines re-routed at the same time, not in a two-step procedure, but for some patients it is safer to do the sleeve first, lose more weight and get healthier, then complete the second step of the DS.
  15. I was sleeved in 2011 and after losing 88 pounds I gained about 30. An egd revealed my sleeve was stretched and I had a lot of acid reflux. I just had the revision to mini bypass in March. I wish I had done this from the beginning and not the sleeve. For some people the sleeve works great but for me it was not enough and if I had it to do over again I would do the mini or full bypass from the beginning. Good luck with your decision.

    scared...smoker and craving

You can't vape nicotine for a month before surgery or during the 6-8 week surgical recovery period. No gum or Patches or nasal sprays either. You can use ZYBAN.(wellbutrine) Many doctors do a test to see of you have nicotine or marijuana in your system. The clinic I went to cancels your surgery and sends you home. http://www.yourbariatricsurgeryguide.com/smoking-cessation/ https://health.clevelandclinic.org/2013/08/facing-surgery-kick-cigarettes-now/ http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/nicotine-test-before-weight-loss-surgery.html

Why am I so hard on myself??? (long)

Sounds like you are punishing yourself for not meeting your goals and yet you say it yourself 100 lbs is not a realistic goal. Step back Corrine, look how far you've come and not have far you haven't come. Wholey smokes girl, 67 lbs in 6 months, thats AMAZING !!! You are that much closer to your goal. Also ask yourself.... why you are racing? this should not be a race but a healthy way of treating your body. I understand, I realllllllllly do understand your frustrations. But now its time to look back at where you were 6 months ago and where you'll be 6 months from now. So you had a bout with fries.... at your next meal, make it a healthy one and every good thing you put in your body realize and say to yourself, this is for the healthy NEW me. You spent a life time gaining weight, whats one year losing it? Plus slow is good. Hugs to you pretty woman, you'll get there..... hang on!! Eileen Ohhh forgot one thing... YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE !!!

Why am I so hard on myself??? (long)

Deside how much weight you have lost then go to the grocery store and pick up bags of potaotes in the same weight you have lost. Try to carry them around the store. This will help you realize what you have done. I wish I had done as well as you.
  19. Yes, I am a new lapbander. I had my procedure done on the 20th of July. I've already lost 12lbs according to the doctors scale fully clothed. You know how you figure clothing weight, or am I the only one who does that. I figured that I should start communicating with other people have done this, so I could get some honest feed back.:clap2:
  20. Hi @froufrou I don't work out intensely, I have a dog that I share with my boyfriend and I walk him for between 30 mins to a 1-hour 4-5 times a week. Other than that I am not super active. I live in a city and I don't have a car so I walk a lot too. Really my weight has come off with not a lot of effort. I try not to obsess over small stalls and I think that helps me understand that the process is a marathon and not a race. I hope that helps.

Can somone go over the unwritten "rules" of the band

There is no debate about the fact that sodas are bad but there is some on the carbonation issue. My opinion was that if the doctor said no, even if ONE doctor said no, I wasn't going to do it. Why do it and not lose the full weight or hurt my band or pouch in the end. I self paid, so I am taking care of it and trying to be nice to it.
  22. Carbonated drinks cause very uncomfortable gas build up in the lower stomach area, which doesn't escape so easily through the banded area of the stomach. Some believe that carbonated drinks cause the stomach to be stretched out from bloating, although not all agree. Also, carbonated drinks often fall into the category of liquid calories which is a big no no, and diet carbonated drinks have sugar substitutes which are thought to increase hunger. For that matter, so does beer. Where does everyone go after the bars close? To breakfast! I really put on weight in my drinking days!
  23. So the time is coming around again for the Canadian Bandster bash out in Mississauga. I am a member of the planning committee and we have rounded up some great people to come and speak. The organizers are all bandsters, but we wanted to open up the bash to all bariatric patients so we are changing the focus to wellness this year. I got involved after going to the first bash and learning so much, and having so much fun. We have some great people confirmed to speak to us including Monica Ganz of Obesity Help, Julie Janeway of Little Victories, Dr Barry Simon and a ton of others. We are focusing not just on the newly banded/WLS patients but on people in all stages of banding weight loss, maintenance, thinking about WLS etc. How do you take off the last little bit of weight, how do you maintain. How do you get over body issues all sorts of stuff to help out all sorts of people. If you are interested the website and registration is located at the following site. I can't say how much it helps people to meet others who are going through the same stuff they are and who understand. Besides we always have a blast hanging out together. www.canadianbandsterbash.com If you have any questions let me know. Hope to see you there. Heather:clap2:
  24. When they say if you want better results, they are talking quicker result. The more extreme surgeries, sleeve and GP, and DS, are all very quick weight loss. However, five years out you will be the same as if you got the band. The band is slower, 1-2lbs a week. This is good in the sense as it doesn't shock your body. It also allows the skin to have a little bit more of a chance to bounce back. The results can be slower and really a bit more frustrating. So make your decision based on how you want your body to react. Just because you get the more extreme surgery doesn't mean that you can't stretch out your stomach later and just gain the weight back either. All the surgeries require a life style change. Good luck!
  25. Hi, I'm Mitch from Phoenix, Az. I am a mother of 4, grandma of 7 and I will be 60 this year. I am really tired of yo yoing as far as weight goes and will be banded by Dr Nirmul on 1/4/08.
