Constipation. Tmi!
caldrich001 replied to Crystalite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After surgery, I went a week without going. My dr said it was fine. For me, drinking a little hot water or decaf coffee will get things moving. -
Hey Boomers, I'm going to be offline for a week or so. I have to send my PC to the hospital because it has a bad case of PC Flu! We are still a very young and slow-growing group. It would be great if you would post replies to recent posts ... like Cheryl who just got sleeved. In my absence, we will see who cares about nuturing our fledging group by the new posts. If you're like me and others here and like the idea of talking to your peers, then perk up girls and man-up guys and help put legs on our slow-moving train, probably weighed down by massive tons we've either lost or plan to lose. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As Teddy Roosevelt, used to say. "It is not the critic who counts or the one who points out how a strong man stumbles. The credit belongs to the people who are in the arena, who strive valiantly, and bring enthusiasm and devotion toward a worthy cause." (The bus is leaving) Losing weight is a great arena to be in. It's fun. It's exciting. And something is always happening. Right now, the question is not whether we’re on the road to change, but who will have a seat on the bus. The bus is parked outside, and it's leaving right now. ALL ABOARD!

Hey Just thought I'd pop in to get this off my chest. Flying to India tomorrow afternoon to get my surgery done on Tuesday. I was on a 2 week pre-op of liquids only (3 SlimFast shakes a day - powder mixed with water) and while I've been about 80% or so good - there have been a couple of times (even as late in as today) that I've broken down and had some turkey/chicken breast (surely can't be that bad... right?!) and a couple of times I've had a small amount of dark chocolate. I've lost about 7-9 kilos (15 - 20 lb) in the last couple of weeks - but I'm terrified that I've jeopardised the surgery by thinking that the liver will still be too big/fatty. Am I getting too worked up over nothing, or am I in trouble? Hoping to join in on the losers' bench in a couple of days Steve

When To Say Something At Work...
NewBegin56 replied to NurseMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the 6 month wait, as well. My surgery is scheduled for 12/27. As soon as I had a tentative dae, I told them I'd be out for surgery for 2 weeks. -
OK, I was put on metformin a few months prior to surgery. No real diag, my doc just realized that another doc was going to look at me and decided that it would be good to make it look like he was doing something for me (I wish i was kidding about that). Needless to say, I am in the market for a new doc....Anyway, I went off a few weeks prior to surgery and I was still loosing. I hit a stall at 3 weeks post op. The scale would not move at all, not even an ounce. I got very frustrated and shared my food log and weight log with my NUT and she said it looked like I was doing everything right. she then ques me on the metformin. I told her i wasn't taking it. Based on my blood, including the one where they look at the 4 month history and I was pre-diabetic. So my NUT told me to go back on the Metformin. I went on it on Friday, and finally after a 2 weeks stall, I lost 2.5lbs. I am just a little concerned being on it post-surgery. Has anyone else had any dealings with this drug post-sugery?

Hey guys, I'll be having my sleeve in a few weeks!! Can't wait. My surgery time is 8pm and my surgeon has another 6 sleeves to do before mine. Is this something to be worried about? Is it normal for such a late operation time? Thanks.

Don't forget to track how much and what you are eating. I like using My Fitness Pal. It really helped me in the beginning because it made me more aware of what nutrients I was getting in. My focus has always been to try to hit at least 80 grams of Protein. And, I had a three week stall that started week 3. They happen. I know it can be discouraging to NOT see the weight come off, but it will. I also learned early on to not weigh myself daily. Our bodies will fluctuate in weight day to day, even morning compared to night. Why? The food and fluids we eat/drink that is still in the system will increase our weight temporarily (and don't forget the other bodily functions). Pick a day and time to weigh yourself once a week. I swear it will help keep your sanity intact.

How Much Did You Lose In Your First Month?
Successful4me replied to bandedsandi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been banded since Dec2010. This has happened to me more than once & I discussed with Bariatrics Nurse & she advised me to increase my protein. It worked for me. Sometimes you starve your body thinking its the right thing, but that's not always right. Talk to someone in the Provider's office that did the procedure. Also stay off the scale. Inches matter. I weigh myself once per week. Don't get stuck on numbers. Good luck -
Good News & Many Questions
favoredone replied to D1NOnlySexyLady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything varies from surgeon to surgeon.. But I was on a 7 day liquid diet prior to surgery...Most recommend chewable or liquid vits to start...i did chewables until I was 10 weeks out and then started on gummies... I did a liquid Vit D because it was very low....I'm not sure about ceasing your meds... your surgeon will tell you all of that... I had to get my IUD (Mirena) removed... hopefully I can get it replaced next week!!! Congrats and I so happy for you!!! -
So Frustrating!
It's all new replied to newlifeforlittleME's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Yes, most everyone has experienced the same frustration. I had a month long stall that started two weeks after surgery. I have had two more shorter stalls since then. It is just part of the deal, for most of us there is no way to avoid it. Sounds like you are doing the right things and if you continue to do so the scale will eventually move. Try not to weigh for a week - it will take some of the day to day pressure off. -
So My Pre Op Appointment is only a couple of weeks away and I have been winging myself off of certain foods and drinks. I quit soda, alcohol, and now just stopped drinking coffee and that's a big one for me. I am trying to stay focused but some days I just want something sweet and don't know how to fight the craving. I was just wondering how you all fight the craving and stay on track or what substitutes you use? Need some motivation and support, please share.

Newbie finding out I am insulin resistant
steph_b replied to DetroitJenny9701's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone! FINALLY people with the problem as me! I also have PCOS and IR. Doctor put me on glucophage, in 20 days I have lost 8.5kg's, but I need to lose weight extremely quick. I saw a neurologist today who recommened gastric banning (I had never heard of it before) but I don't know what to expect and think about it. Should I consider it or should I not? I got married last year September 2010 and My Hubby and I desperately want to have kids but the gynae refuses to operate until I am under 100kg's. I have struggled for 15 years to lose weight....and I lose quickly the first few weeks and then I struggle.....HELP!!!! -
Pre op day 13- Need advice!
MountianGirl replied to ashsleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told it was more important to hit my fluid goals than my protein goals those first few weeks. You absolutely must stay hydrated or things will not go well. If I got one shake a day in I was happy. -
Thanks for all your posts, the way I was feeling did finally pass and I was so glad. I doubt that I will want to try a hot dog or slaw again for awhile. I'm about 7 weeks out and haven't had my first fill yet its Monday afternoon, but it seems strange to me I've already dealt with PB and have a lot of restriction. I was telling my DH I can't imagine eating less than 4 ounces which is all I can tolerate right now. I guess I'll find out next week

Pre op testing for self pay?
kiz replied to Bell1138's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your welcome. I know I had a lot of questions at the get-go too. I went to two seminars with different surgeons, and there was a clear choice in my mind, and I went with that doctor. My seminar was in June, and my consultation was scheduled for a few weeks later..so late June early July. I could have surgery in late August, but I had a scheduling conflict, so I moved it to the first week of Sep. I am absolutely thrilled with my results. I'm on a plateau now, but I *never* thought I'd be this close to goal weight after struggling with weight gain and then obesity for the last 15+ years. I've gone the Weight Watchers route more than once, I've gone to a weight loss doctor for phentermine twice, and, of course, I've tried to lose weight on my own several times. All these attempts were met with failure. With the band, I eat normal foods; just much smaller portions, and I don't drink with my meals. I go to the gym for rigorous workouts 3 - 4 times/week. I went into this, not merely to lose weight, but to improve my health. That's one of the reasons exercise is such an important component to me. I didn't add it just to help with weight/inches loss. I want a healthy heart and increase in stamina. I'm planning to hit 50 yrs old with a body that matches my mind and attitude, and I'm getting there. -
Exactly. We have to get into some kind of regular regiment. Discipline ourselves so it's not such a huge shock. A little commitment maybe each week. Like this week I gave up coffee. Next week no bread or rice. That's a big one! At least for me.

Hi again. My typical day consists of a 35g Protein shake for Breakfast. For lunch, usually 1/2 to 1 cup of tuna with light mayo or egg salad with light mayo. Maybe a wedge of laughing cow cheese. For dinner, I usually like a salad with a protein it in (either chicken or turkey breast sliced very thin or a few shrimp). I was really losing a lot when I was in a vomiting/PB mode but I knew that wasn't a good thing for me. So, when he removed some, I thought it might be just right but I don't feel any restriction or satiety right now. I really have to be careful that I don't overeat. So, obviously I need some more added to the band but I just wondered if such a small amount could make a big difference. I don't go back for my follow up until 2 weeks from today so I'm trying to stick to my meal plan even though I feel as though I'd have no trouble eating more.

Not sure now far post op you are but I was banded 6 months ago next week. I have had four fills and my last two were 0.25 each as I creep toward green. Some days I feel like I have little restriction. Some days lots. Mornings are tighter than evenings. If my food choices are lousy for a few days (carbs, sliders, fried foods) my restriction doesn't work as well afterwards. If my food is clean (solid Protein, no snacking, low carbs) for a day then my restriction seems to magically come back. I do not understand this at all but I am learning to listen to and obey my band better. I've only lost half the weight I want to lose, and I'll be darned if I'm going to wuss out now. My advice is to sit with this level for a month while keeping your food clean. See if that makes a difference. I fear going too tight and creating stuck and PB problems. I want this band to work for the long haul without erosion or other troubles I might have prevented with good habits. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Controling Your SWEET TOOTH
Shannalee replied to coolnessa22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost into my 6 week pre-op diet which is mostly protein drinks. What I have heard that helps with the sweet tooth is SF pop-cycles or SF jello. It's the one thing that you'll get to eat after the surgery so it might help before. What helps me is I use a little more Mio in my water. It makes it sweet and helps me with my craving. I have quit everything like you but the soda is the one thing that is difficult for me. Considering where I was 4 months ago I have quit a lot of things that are bad for me. Can't wait to hear how your pre-op appointment goes -

Pre Op need support
Finding_Stacy replied to shan0520's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only imagine. I've been doing my low carb for two weeks. My surgery isn't for another 41 days but my doctor doesn't require any type of liquid diet, before or after. But from what I read, it's still hard to go through once we're sleeved. We only need a few bites to nourish our bodies, but five times that to nourish our souls. I guess that's why it's called soul food . Time to find something else that doesn't revolve around food, becoming a raging alcoholic, or turning to street drugs to fill that void . -
Pre Op Diet...Food everywhere!
Michelle Cicerello replied to sarsar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lol yeah, thats how it seems to go - when I was on my 2 week pre op diet, people at work kept asking me if I wanted Cookies or to go out to lunch with them, I had to kindly decline - you will make it through, it can be rough sometimes, but it is doable Keep up the good work!! -
Yup, that desribes me pretty well. I was sleeved one week ago and it's gotten a lot better. I have trouble tolerating plain water and cold drinks so I've used a lot of crystal light and Mio and G2 Gatorade. It's kind of a learning curve to figuring out your new stomach, try small sips and if it hurts, breath through it and try something else! Today I was able to drink plain water without pain, it does get better!!

I didn't take any of my pain meds. My doc requires a multivitimin until I was on mushies. (2 weeks) and 20 mg Pepcid twice a day for 2 months so I don't form an Ulcer. Thats it for me.

My sleeve date approaches quickly!! I've been on hear reading and noting things to do, not to do, things to eat. I'm most nervous about understanding my new routine, but I know it will all come together. Can't thank everyone on her enough for sharing your stories. They've helped me so much!!!
