    Early Tummy Tuck

Sooooo. I'm around 70-ish lbs from my goal weight and I've already scheduled a tummy tuck and lipo for February '22. I know it's early in my journey to do so (I'm only 9 months post-op). But, I can't stand the flapping and hanging. I figure, since I haven't had kids yet, that any more loose skin I develop would be a great starting point for a pregnant belly a few years down the line (thats how it works right?? Like reinflating a balloon??). Or, this will just be my excuse to get a mini tummy tuck and an boob lift. Anyone else have an "early" surgery? How did your results fare after losing more weight? Regrets?
  2. What do you possibly think you’re gaining by being completely rude and utterly disrespectful? Thanks for the advice, I walk 6 days a week and lift. Nor do I have health issues outside of things not related to my weight. But keep on assuming.

    Tracking weight loss

I track my food in MyFitnessPal (I tried and hated both Baritastic and MyMacros+). I track my weight and BMI with FitIndex which connects to my smart scale and the super-awesome smart measuring tape. I weigh in every Monday morning.

    I've gained weight...

I do both... lighter weights for more reps for time under load for size and endurance, and heavy weights for raw strength. I'm with you on not overstressing the muscle groups. I won't even do front squats and back squats without three days in between. You look fantastic. #goals

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +

Hello Ladies, I was approved for gastric sleeve surgery late last month. I have to see my nutritionist once a month for 6 months consecutively, I have to have bariatric counciling report done that takes 3 sessions before surgery and one after, they did a ton of blood work, I have a upper GI and a echo cardiagram scheduled this week and I have to see my cardiologist to get approval to go off my blood thinners before they will scheduled my surgery date. I'm at my heaviest weight now 471 lbs. I don't know what my goal weight should be, I just want to lose enough to have my knees replaced as there bone on bone and I'm in a lot of pain everyday. I'm 49 and this is me now with a couple of my granddaughters sitting in my wheelchair.
  7. Hello all, I had my surgery October 1st, so this is day 10. I spend the first three nights in the hospital, and went home feeling pretty good. By afternoon the following day I was nauseous and I began to vomit. Because I could not keep water down I was re-admitted to the hospital. I struggled with potassium and magnesium, and my blood sugar straddled the line of low (68). We got the nausea under control and I have been home for two days without problems (yay), but I am still on clear liquid until I see my doc on Thursday. Before the complications I was advised to wait a week before starting supplements (I think partially to avoid sickness). However, my current diet is 60mg protein (320 cal), soup broth, sf jello and decaf hot tea with powdered nonfat milk. Naturally I feel no hunger, but how long can one sustain with such a low intake? Any suggestions for boosting those calories while avoiding dumping would be helpful. Thanks! Rachel P.S. For context my surgery was a revision from sleeve to bypass due to GERD. The first surgery was six years ago and I lost 120lbs. After a concussion in 2019 and 2020 Is gained about thirty back. I say this because I wonder how it might impact things….
  8. Straws can bring air into your stomach which can cause gas like pains. Some people don't have problems other do. I imagine if someone was going to have problems it would be in the first six to 12 weeks, while the stomach is healing and is still tender and they are getting use to restrictions etc. I am not one to typically use a straw, so didn't have a need to use one or test it out. I think using straws is one of those variable things about weight loss surgery - depends on your surgeon and/or what you may read. Some were told never to use a straw again, others maybe in time, others were not told anything. These two links were just the first two I found, I've linked them for no other reason. https://www.obesityhelp.com/articles/drinking-through-a-straw-after-wls/ https://mexicobariatriccenter.com/bariatric-surgery-myths/
  9. I'm a little over 2 months post-op (VSG to RNY revision) and am averaging 676 calories a day. I am on the fence whether to up it or ride the honeymoon wave. I asked my surgeon on my first post-op appointment, and he said to stay around this calorie range to lose more weight, that's about all the information I got.

    Tracking weight loss

Been using the app called Libra. It shows graphs, BMI, rate of weight loss per week, how many calories less you ate a day, goal vs actual... Etc.

    Energy

I also have a short supply of energy, however I have been diagnosed with mild anemia for many years. It has worsened in the last 5 or 6 years, a few years after RNY bypass. I was in my late 60's when I had the surgery. My diabetes kept getting worse and my weight was a major problem so that was my main intent to help the diabetes. It worked! For a while my energy was way up but as I have turned in my 80's, my anemia, related to kidney function, is worse and I'm really tired most of the time. Diet is always a concern and I cannot eat much at all. I admit that I have a bad habit of skipping my meds. Fortunately my hematologist referred me to a kidney specialist and I think I have the best advice that I have ever had. Frequent blood tests are a good thing and in my earlier years was to busy to take care of myself. I'm coming up to 83 and still a work in progress.
  12. My scale comes with an app called FitIndex that I really like. It also has a fancy smart tape measure that I bought so I can measure myself for the times when weight loss stalls. I am about a month out and lost 9 lbs on my pre-op diet and 35 lbs. in the first month post-op. I'm currently in the dreaded three-week stall, just continuing what I need to do and I know it'll resume eventually.

    Tracking weight loss

I track my food in myfitnesspal - and record my weight there once a week (on Wednesdays - the day I had my surgery back in 2015). then once a month, on the date of my surgery (the 3rd), I put my weight in an Excel spreadsheet.

    Tracking weight loss

Baritastic is what I use for food. It also tracks my weight by linking to my Fitindex app that is connected via Bluetooth to my scale. Fitindex does BMI and other weight related measurements….they also have a Bluetooth measuring tape that is awesome. So, I step on the scale, Fitindex logs the weight and the weight is automatically transferred to Baritastic.

    Insurance Through Postop

Month 11, 172.4 as of this morning. I feel like my body is slamming the brakes on weight loss, but I’m still going down so I’ll get there eventually! This month I increased my running speed and distance, and I’m getting some body weight work outs into my routine. I am also back firmly into a size 12 pants, which was my “dream size” from that brief moment so long ago when I got back down to a healthy weight. I’m pretty tall for a woman so I’m not sure that single digit sizes are even a possibility for me, so I’m very happy with this size. I am also NOT OVERWEIGHT!! I have actually reached a healthy weight for my height! I realize a lot of people who are close to 50 bmi like I was will never get here and I’m so grateful that I have. Next month goals- get into the 160s, increase my daily running distance, and celebrate my one year sleeve-a-versary!

    How many calories a day?

yep - I agree with the others - programs are different. Some want their patients on very low calorie diets the first few months - others on higher calorie diets because (I think) they feel it's more sustainable. Some don't want you counting calories at all. As long as you're seeing a general downward trend in your weight, you're fine.

    Slow weight loss

there's your problem - you're believing what you read online. Just don't. NO ONE loses 5-15 lbs a week from weight loss surgery. People who are on shows like "My 600 lb Life" might lose somewhere at the lower end of that range, but even THEY aren't going to lose 15 lbs a week. the average WLS patient (and I am NOT talking people who start out at 600+ lbs, like on those shows) loses somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month - and then it drops to about 10 lbs a month (give or take) after that. And for lower BMI patients, it'll be even lower than that. Yes - you will find people here and there who do not start out at over 600 lbs who might drop 30 lbs the first month, but they are outliers. And NO ONE loses 15 lbs a week (OK - maybe the very first week when most of that is water weight - but after that, no. It just doesn't happen). I started out at almost 400 lbs and lost 16 lbs the first month. 12 lbs the second. And then around 10 lbs, give or take, for the next six months or so. And I lost every molecule of my excess weight - over 200 lbs. You are doing fine. Readjust your expectations a bit. If you are following your program, and you're seeing a general downward trend, you're good. your rate of weight loss is fine and perfectly normal.

    Slow weight loss

It's really hard to comment on your weight loss without knowing your start weight and height. 21lbs in five weeks sounds pretty good to me though given you lost 27lb pound pre-op. More you lose in pre-op the less likely you are to lose a lot in the immediate post op stages, however, over time weight loss will average out.
  22. I’m just under 5 weeks post op, and feeling very defeated. I’m just now starting to go into solid foods, soft solid foods though, and I have days where I can’t stomach much at all, but my weight loss is very slow. In total, including the pre-op diet I’ve lost 48lbs which is great, but around 27lb was from the pre-op diet. I read somewhere online that the average per week lost after gastric bypass was between 5-15lbs, and I’m definitely not getting anywhere near that, but then 15lb a week does sound crazy to me. It’s disheartening that I lost so much before surgery, but since surgery I feel like it’s been much slower, even though I can’t be getting any more than 800kcals a day, most days much less. Has anybody else experienced slow weight loss this early? Did it speed up? Was there anything you found helped?

    How many calories a day?

What Arabesque and HopScotch said - Each program and person will vary (sometimes GREATLY). If you're losing weight and your nutritionist is happy, then you;re doing great!

  25. So ive read over and over and over how Genepro protein powder is lieing about having 30 grams of protein per serving and how it cant have 30 grams of protein in it if it only has 58 calories in it cuz protein has 4 calories per gram and on and on and on and yadda yadda yadda! UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU READ!!!!!! They are saying that their serving size gives you THE EQUIVALENT AMOUNT OF PROTEIN THAT WILL BE ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY AS IN A 30 GRAM SCOOP OF WHEY PROTEIN!!!!!!!!!! 1 tblspn of Genepro 2 will give you the same protein blood level (actual absorbed protein into your body/blood) count as a 30 gram scoop of whey protein because whey protein has a very low rate of absorption by the human body!!!!!! I agree the label can be a bit tough to understand unless you read what it says EXACTLY! You will see the 30 gram statement followed by ** and when you go down to what ** means/relates too, its the clinical study that showed just what ive stated above...that 1 tablespoon of Genepro 2 will give your body the same amount of ABSORBED PROTEIN AS 30 GRAMS OF WHEY PROTEIN! Whey protein has a very low rate of absorption...approx 30-45% MAX absorption rate with most being around the 30-35% which means a scoop of whey protein that contains 30 grams of protein gives you about 10-12 grams of protein that is actually absorbed by the body. 1 tablespoon of GENEPRO 2 gives you approx 10-12 grams of protein absorbed by the body! Clinical study proved that 1 Tablespoon of GENEPRO 2 would give you the same amount of ABSORBED PROTEIN as a scoop of whey protein containing 30 grams of protein! GOT IT???? LOL! Thats laymens terms of course but i think thats what is need here and it needed to be repeated a few times for normal folks to grasp! LOL! AGAIN...BOTTOM LINE LAYMENS TERMS...1 TABLESPOON OF GENEPRO2 GIVES YOU THE SAME AMOUNT OF PROTEIN ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY AS A SCOOP OF WHEY PROTEIN CONTAINING 30 GRAMS OF PROTEIN. Genepro2 has a very high absorption rate...so consider a scoop of Genepro2 will get you approx 10-15 grams of protein absorbed by your body! ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY IS THE IMPORTANT FACT/NUMBER ETC AS WHATS NOT ABSORBED DOESNT DO YOU ANY GOOD! Some vitamins are the same way, examples being D, magnesium and others...to get 50 mgs ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY YOU HAVE TO TAKE 5 TIMES MORE/250 MGS SINCE ABSORPTION RATE IS SO POOR. I hope this helps and remember that 1 serving of the GENEPRO2 will get you about 10-15 grams of protein absorbed by the body. If you need to get an extra 75 grams of protein above what you will eat in your food then you will need to take 5-7 scoops/serving sizes. FOR BEST RESULTS AS FAR AS TASTE OR CHEMICAL SMELL GOES...DO NOT HEAT UP PROTEIN AT ALL! MIX IT COLD WITH SOMETHING AND POUND IT DOWN QUICKLY! I have always lifted weights and worked out seriously and have learned over the years how much my body can absorb of any given protein product. Your body will only absorb its max amount of protein and then it will come out your rear end! We have always tought other people that were lifting weights and taking supplements to gain lean muscle mass to find that max point with which ever protein product you are using and then back down from there. Work your way up to max rate when your body will get rid of excess and then slowly back down servings until you hit that happy point. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!
