    I GOT APPROVED!

Congrats!!! I can't wait until I can post an approval post. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I honestly did not see myself posting this for a while. But, here I am! You'll get there! <3
  2. Having not lost weight for nearly two weeks after surgery, I was starting to stress even thought I had heard of the three week stall. I then read this article and discussed it with my husband who's a meat science who confirmed its accuracy. A breath of relief and kept doing what I was supposed to and weight started dropping quickly again. Thought I'd share if someone else was experience and wondering what was going on. Here's the link: The article I read
  3. After week, I was up going out, going to restaurants and shopping. I had a little yellow around my neck and side of my face and I did look swollen to me, but if you didn't know me, you would not have known I had just had a face/neck lift. I took 2 weeks off from work and I have long hair so I think I hid things pretty well.

    Heart Rate Monitor?

Did you get one you liked, heart monitors are so motivational for me, I also used one about 3-5 years ago, I need to find a new one. Let me know if you found an easy one to use.

    4 more days (???)

Good luck, my surgery is also in 4 days. I'm not on a liquid diet this week they just told me to eat light. I am so ready for the next stage!
  6. Thank you everyone! It was good to hear that this is pretty normal. I've put away my scale and vowed not to use it until my 2 week follow up with my surgeon.
  7. Txgirl36: I was sleeved by the same doctor, same hospital, same day & I gained 10 pounds. No worries, they pumped us full of IV fluids with sodium in it. It will come off for sure. I have removed my scale & will wait for my post-op visit next week.
  8. Had my first fill on 5-21-08. Doctor said he put in 5 cc. Today I went in for an adjustment because feeling very little restriction, and he said there was only 3 cc in there. Is that normal? Do you always lose ccs that quickly?

    Questions

from my understanding you should be on clear liquids only during this time for a number of weeks. you should contact your surgical office in regards to your time line of food change...meaning gwen to transition from clear, to all liquid and the to purred. gave you seen a nutritionist before surgery. be very careful what you consume until u have been approved to do so by your doctor. best of luck on this new journey

    Weight Gain immediately postop

Not until 6 weeks post-op. I walked before then, but nothing more strenuous was approved by the surgeon until 6 weeks.
  12. I had my gallbladder removed two weeks after my WLS in May 2011. I can remember having gas pains because again they back into the same incisions as the WLS. I remember not being able to sleep on my side and having to sleep sitting up because I felt like there was a void or an open hole in my side and everthing felt moved around. It sounds like gas but I am not an expert by no means if it persists I would contact your surgeon or NP to advise them of what you are feeling.

    Stall help

My numbers are about the same as yours. I'm three weeks post-op today and I'm STALLED also. Hope this ends soon.

    2 weeks postop today

Christine, you are not alone. I'm 3 days behind you and can relate totally. I've only lost 1 pound this week when I had been losing 3-5 pounds a week for the past 5 months. I'm not letting it get me down. I am going to try and be creative with the blender and bide my time until I can eat real food again. Good luck!
  15. Find a new doctor who isn't so arrogant and ignorant. The U.S. does not have a monopoly on quality health care. In fact, my Mexico surgeon had more experience, better credentials and a lower complication rate than the 6 U.S. surgeons I looked at. I had no complications postop and my surgeon's office was available for postop consult and questions 7 days/week. My PCP was fine with doing my followup bloodwork and would have supported me through any problems if they occurred. My OB/Gyn was also totally on board and volunteered to do bloodwork if I needed. She even got the name and contact info for my surgeon to pass on to other patients who's insurance doesn't cover WLS. I saw a gastroenterologist for an unrelated issue 2 months postop and he didn't have a problem with me having had surgery in Mexico, either. Routine follow up can be done by your PCP, but maybe ask her to check around with other bariatric specialists in case you do have any complications. Make sure you pick a surgeon that is available postop and willing to answer any questions your PCP may have.

    Fill 'er up!

Fill #3 today, no problems at all. I'm now at 8.2 in a 14 cc band, much to my surprise. (She pulled out everything and I had an extra 0.5 cc no one has mentioned yet). But whatever, as long as it keeps working! I love my band, I love my band, I love my band!!!!
  17. OK calm down...LOL! First of all, immediately after surgery, you'll be sore and more than anything, bloated and with zero appetite. Secondly, once you start eating (Jello and liquids), due to gas, it will be a bit painful when it goes down, so being that you're not hungry and it's painful, you won't think about food, nonetheless feel hungry or have any urge to eat. Once you do start eating food, you get full so fast that you won't want food all the time and with just a little, and hopefully the right healthy foods, you will feel satisfied. Also, once you notice on our clothes and your scale the weight coming off, you will be so thrilled that you will want to continue with this healthy eating and watch more weight come off constantly. Be positive and get ready to feel amazing after a few days and especially after the first 4 weeks when a lot of weight has come off, people are noticing, you feel lighter and healthier! Good Luck!! Don't worry, be happy, go on this journey very positively!
  18. I am afraid I am going to end up grazing myself right back to an unhealthy weight. I am starting my 4th week & am down 20. I am just worried because I have started on actual food & not liquid. Any advice?
  19. I'm trying to figure out what my healthy weight range is, but I need to know what my body frame is. I'm pretty sure I don't have a large frame. I've never been "big boned." But how do I know if I'm a small or a medium? I've seen three methods for figuring it out, and none of them really work. 1. Measure your wrist: Well, if you're obese, your wrist will be bigger, so that doesn't help 2. Measure the distance between the bones in your elbow: I can't ever seem to get an accurate measure on that. 3. Wrap one hand around the opposite wrist and see if your fingers touch: Well, my thumb touches my index finger and ring finger and overlaps my middle finger. So what does that mean? Maybe I have long fingers. Does anyone know of a better way to figure this out? Or is this one of those things "you just know"? *confused* SJ
  20. OK, here is the deal. I have done great with weight training since March of this year. I work out 3 times per week for about 1 hour with a friend who is a personal trainer. But we just lift weights. I do cardio on and off but not religiously. So I am setting a goal of working out (cardio) every day this month. I have alot of Walk away the pound videos by Leslie Sansone. So on the days I work I am going to wake up early and do at least the 1 mile walk, and on my days off I am going to walk out side or ride my bike, something more creative. So if any one wants to join me to try and work out at least once a day evey day this month let me know!
  21. First, are you type 1 or 2? Type 1 .. well, I have no experience. Have to defer that to more knowledgeable peeps. As for type 2.. I live with an insulin dependent type 2 diabetic. We do notice that his eating can vary widely on a day to day basis at home. When that is the case, he invariably needs more and more insulin. When he is in the hospital or rehab (unfortunately a frequent occurrence), the regular, consistent, counted meals result in his needing less insulin and weight loss. He is a hopeless case, and there is no fixing his home habits, so don't worry about him. But we can learn from him. In order to get control of things, you need to set up an eating schedule with counted carbs, and stick to it. Be extra conscientious about taking your blood sugar levels and adjust your insulin accordingly (if it's a system you can make modifications yourself). At first, don't change your eating habits, just keep track of them for at least a week. Once you know what you are eating, you can make tweaks. Drastic changes will likely result in low blood sugar levels, so make changes slowly. Meal management does become a full time job, but with your condition, that's part of the deal. The alternative, as you have discovered, is more insulin, weight gain, and possibly all the other diabetic complications.
  22. I have noticed the last 2 weeks I can eat more food without getting uncomfortable. does the sleeve stretch out down the road? I'm 8 months post op. I feel restriction but at about 1.5 oz more than the usual.??? Any advice or thoughts from people who are farther along than me would be appreciated. I'm freaking out a little (I dont wanna get fat again ever!). thanks

    What Should I Do?

Thank you everyone! My school is extremely strict and this is a 6 week class. I think you're all right, I need to speak to my doctor to figure out what I can do. =]
  24. On Monday I will find out if i'm approved for the sleeve. They made my surgery date January 17. My only issue is that i'm a college student and during that time I will be taking a class that i'm only allowed two absences. If I get the surgery over the weekend (friday morning), I wonder, would I be able to attend class by monday? unfortunately I can't take the semester off because I'm literally one class away from graduating and my insurance told me i'm only approved for that week. I don't know what to do.
  25. Hi all I'm hoping my dr will tell me tomorrow that o can start on soft mushy foods but can you guys give me an idea of what that consists of? I am 6 days post-op and have been on liquid (not clear) all week. Thx! ????
