    HELP!!! Reality Check!!!

Okay - I was a travel agent and guess what - the average weight gain on a cruise is 10 pounds!!!! So, you didn't do bad at all. I love cruises too. I once went on a strictly scrapbooking cruise, it was so much fun! So I totally know you had a great time. Don't sweat the 5 lbs, now is the time to get back to the basic bandster rules.

    Banded on 03/09/09. Day 4 ...

Today is kind of discouraging though. Even though I only had three protein shakes, half cup of milk and 5 bites of sugar free pudding yesterday, I only lost half pound today. I see people on the board are losing at least 10 pounds each week on the post-op liquid diet. I have only lost 5.5 pounds for 6 days post-op.

NSV: I love taking selfies now...

Not only have you lost weight, but you've lost about 10 years too! LOL! keep up the good work! You're a beauty!
  6. My surgery date is May 23rd. I will have a 10 day preop diet. Since I'm having my surgery in Mexico, I don't have a NUT. Any help you can give for protein ideas would be appreciated.
  7. TCarroll, Sorry if that seemed directed at you. I was just responding to the main thread. But because I am at work, it takes me a while from response to actual post LOL! So by the time I posted, yours was already up (I started this response @ 11:10. it is now 11:15 lol). You told the truth and in no way made it seem easy. Matter of fact, I wish I had some of your will power, I sure need it from time to time. You have done great!! I don't think there is a bandster out there who would say this going from "normal" eating to bandster eating is a breeze. I was just putting in my two cents so any newbies or people interested in the band don't misunderstand the successes and think its all a cake walk...(better to talk about cake than eat it lol!) Anyway, Sorry about the confusion. Cheryl

  9. I want to go horse back riding again, haven't been since I was 19. Last time I tried I couldn't pull myself up in the saddle anymore and due to my weight it kept sliding down the side of the horse dispite the straps Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using the BariatricPal App
  10. I had my sleeve on July 16th. They found a hernia that needed repair also, so I figured my recovery would take a bit longer. I went home 1 day after the procedure on liquid pain meds. I had to take them every 4 hours the first and second day home. The taste from the pain meds made me sick so I switched to children's Tylenol. Today, I woke up pain free. Feeling good! Gas pains have lessened. Just trying to get in all my fluids. I found Hood Skim Milk for 10 grams of Protein and it is a treat! Today, I am mixing in Isopure with Crystal Light to get in more protein. HW:228 SW: 214 Current: 210 Goal: 125
  11. Hello everyone, I have been visiting VST for a while, just now introducing myself. I have pretty much the same story as everyone else. Yo-yo dieted most of my life, weight loss expert that can tell you how to loose it, just not keep it off, emotional eater, etc. But in August of 2012, I went to a seminar at New Life Bariatric Center in Knoxville Tn. and met Dr. Boyce. My VSG journey started then. Other than insurance requirement of 10% wt. loss and one denial from insurance it has been a fairly easy process. And finally I have a date Feb. 18, 2013. Yeah!!!I am so excited,.,.,, nervous at the same time. Worried about all the changes for me and my family, how to cook for them, eat at family get togethers etc. I really enjoy reading all your positive and helpful info. so any pointers would be great. Thanks

    How fast?

Hey Taryn, I had surgery on 10-9 and I'm in the same place. From what I've read on here, its normal to stop losing and even gain a little btween weeks 2 and 4, until you get your first fill, then things will hopefully pick up. They call this time "bandster hell" because you are getting hungry and aren't as satisfied with small portions. Your band really isn't helping you much, its all willpower from now until you get a fill!
  13. Ok I'm 10 months post op and lost 90 pounds so far which I'm super excited about BUT....... how do u know if ur to tight or just not eating correctly? I love eating obviously that's why I weighed 310 pounds haha I've been at this fill for probly 5 months I do have trouble eating sometimes without it coming back up or hurting and me forcing myself to make it come back up....I was eating with my parents Fri night and ordered a chicken breast and baked potato well after 1/4 of the chicken and not quite 1/2 of potato I was feeling very full....and I got frustrated cuz it was very good and I wanted to eat more lol but is that about right on amounts of food u should eat? I'm scared to get an infill cuz I've lost so much weight and I don't want to gain cuz I really have no self control but I don't want to hurt my band either.....sorry if this sounds dumb Sent from my DROID RAZR using LapBandTalk

    Conversion

I had lap-band surgery back on 7/19/2010. My primary reason for the lap-band was to send my diabetes into remission. On the day of my surgery as I waited to be call (got there 4 hours early) I had a horrible tooth ache from a tooth that I found out later needed a root canal. I didn't say anything because I was concern that it would cancel the surgery. The surgery was fine and the only real pain was from my tooth afterwards. It took me awhile to get the root canal done and so I lived with the tooth discomfort for a while. As a result I ate very little and therefore I lost a lot of weight - the doctors thought lap-band, I wondered tooth. When I started the fills food began to get stuck immediately and also pain and discomfort. They stopped the fills thinking I had enough and after all I had lost 20 pounds fairly quickly. I felt good and my AC1 almost return to normal levels. I won't go into the details of port fills and lack of results because we have all been there. Three months ago when I was in the doctors office they mentioned that I was a "lap-band failure" and suggested that one possibility might be the sleeve. My first reaction was I had purposely gone with the least invasive procedure and that to pursue the sleeve was to be going down the rabitt hole permanently. Which frankly scared me. However after thinking about the real consequences of diabetes in the long term and how much I hurt physically with the weight regained I signed up for the conversion from lap-band to sleeve. I have requested that they remove the lap-band and do the sleeve at once which the doctor says that he will try. I am now scheduled for surgery on December 21st. I'm not sure that I have any specific questions. I have concerns about the quality of life after surgery. I am also concerned about the psychological impact of the surgery. Thanks.

    Freakin Weekend

I completely agree!! I'm freaking out big time. I'm able to get everything down really well... And I was bad on Saturday night. I had a sour cream and chicken enchilada and like 10 chips and salsa. I promised myself I wouldn't do that, but I did. Sure enough, I gained a pound the next day. I worked hard yesterday to lose it and I did this morning, but with all my up and down, I'm still stuck on the same exact number~!! During the week I keep on a strict plan and I follow it very well. I just need to get back into that... I have zero restriction right now... :mad2: I can't wait till the 25th when I get my first fill, even though it will be so little I doubt I will feel anything.
  16. Hang in there you can do it. I don't know what your doctor told you but this is basically what I lived on, chicken boullion or beef, apple juice, hot apple cider, hot tea (green tea for me)I even made Jello and drank it warm and then when it was set I could eat tiny bites. We are with you, it won't be long now till you can have creamed Soup. It is worth it and you can do it.:huh2: Banded 10-9-2007 Weight Loss Surgical Center Dr. Lee Nigro 49lbs lost

    hiii :) *beginner*

my name is Kristy and i just started my process! :cursing: i am overly excited and day-dreamy. lol. i went to meet the surgeon today and he was telling me the important stuff to do after the surgery and just said a few things about it. it was SOO quick. crazy. it took 2 hours to get into the patient room, but once he came in...psshh.. 10 or so mins and we were done. i got the info and i need to make dietitian appt. very excited. the room was crazy, one wall was window and ...they have you in a chair facing it. i was like..whoa. better not fall forward lol. my mom went with me and as you can see, she's thin. she lost 150. :cryin: she had gastric bypass. in the pic, she is pointing to Angel's Stadium. perrrddyyy craaazyy. the doctor was impressed with how much i had with me lol. i had my letter, my years of records with primary doc. and my weight loss attempts. my mom joked and said that i want it done tomorrow and the doctor said .."you got cash?..haha" ......PFFT. lol. i told him 20 cents on me. he said to add a few zeros. hahah! HA. hahah. crazy. then he said with a smile, "i see you have a list of questions for me....." haha. i was too embarrassed to ask most of them HAHA. he covered the rest, so i only had a few. lol. cool stuff. i can't wait.
  18. I think its important that you realize that although you may physically be able to go back to work, are you mentally able to do so? With me, I was physically able to go back within 10 days of my surgery. But I chose to stay out a few weeks longer because I really wanted to make sure I was mentally ready for the challenges that I may face at work, and that is to be around so much food. I work in a department, where we constantly receive cakes, cookies, pies, etc..as tokens of appreciation. Being banded is a life altering experience and I really feel that you should take as much time as possibly can before you transition back to work.

    after lap band

Alicia I was not bedridden but I did spend most of my time on the couch. I was more sore then anything not much pain - and I am a chicken when it comes to pain. After a few days I would walk around the house to get my body going and when that got boring about a week and a half after surgery I would walk on the treadmill at a VERY low speed just to keep myself moving fpr about 10-15 minutes at a time. It was November so it was too cold to walk outside so thats why I used the treadmill. I do remember getting winded quickly but I would take my time and just do what I could.
  21. I know the feeling! I just finished my 6 months and having surgery on 4/10. I found out I had all the stuff the doctor said I would when I was 21 and didn't listen now it's catching up to me at age 25. I don't look at it as a bad thing. Look at it as a good thing, you know what you have and learn how to fix it whether it be with medication or losing weight. This can also help with co-morbids too if your insurance requires you have at least one to have approval. The next 4 months will go by fast and before you know it you'll be on your way to approval and surgery. Good luck on your journey.
  22. My doc's orders: 1-2 days clear liquids 1-2 days full liquids 2-3 weeks mushies 1-2 weeks soft food slowly encorporate regular food from that point on. I have struggled with hunger a little bit. The 2nd day was the worst for me. I had a complete emotional breakdown and cried. I think I didn't get enough calories for the day though because I only got like 350 calories that whole day. Ideas for protein are those protein 'bullets' you get from he health food store. They have helped me a lot. I drink 1/2 of one of them in the morning and the other 1/2 at night for a total of 42 grams of protein. That is on top of what I am getting from my diet. Every day is a little better, but it is tough. Anyone who thinks this is the 'easy' way out is nuts, that is for sure! Banded: 07/01/08

I'm tricare prime north region and started my process and aug 10 and was approved for surgery by the beginning of November I was not required to wait 6 months the bariactric nurse here said they use to require it but they don't anymore. The only reason I'm not having my surgery until feb 5th is because there was a wait list. Good luck

    The Psychology of it all

So it was a week on Saturday since I got my last fill and it’s tight. But this last week I have truly struggled with eating. I can’t help but think back on the 12 steps again and what addiction means. It’s insanity! It’s insane when you pay $$$$$ to physically alter the ability to swallow food, so you can lose weight, but then you try and force food down after you have paid thousands of dollars to physically restrict your ability to do so. Then you spend more time trying to figure out how to get around the restriction but still think how bad you want to be thin. It’s so (insert several bad words here :cursing::biggrin::cursing: x 10) mental. So the last few days I have spent every meal staring  at an abundance of food that I know, good and well I will never be able to eat but to satisfy my off balanced mental state I put it on my plate anyway. Then after a few bites I spend the rest of my time talking to myself about how insane it is for me to take another bite when I am already ready to puke it all back out. So I can’t help but think what happened, what’s going on and how did I get so f&$* up? What is it that drives me to participate in this ritual, this thing that has caused so much pain in my life? I’ve been in therapy for the last six years and the more I think I know the more I don’t. It’s getting better the last few days I have been able to put less food on my plate and love myself enough to provide myself with the self talk that I need to talk me off the “ledge”. Sometimes I can’t do anything but laugh, to keep from crying and then I reach out to my God and ask, “So when you were dishing out issues and challenges how come mine could not be how to get over being wealthy or insanely beautiful with people fighting over me?” But at the close of this writing the truth is for what ever reason this is the issue that I have to hurdle. It’s often reduced me to tears, deep depression, humiliation and disgust. But today is all I have and I have to keep remembering that my focus has to be on the meal before me and getting that right. Failure is not an option for me so I keep going into each meal knowing that I can and will do what needs to be done. My life is valuable and important to many, most importantly me. Today was better than yesterday! Peace, Love & Health Metamorphosis
