Hello my name is Malika I go by the name complulsive09. My bestfriend gave me that name. She gave me that name because I worry about everything. (lol) I always worried about my weight but didnt really know what to do. I did all the things everyone did to lose weight but didn't really know how to eat and what to eat. My highest weight was 303 lbs. I currently weigh 250 lbs. I was banded 6/16/09.(280 lbs. day of sugery) I lost 40 lbs. with the band. But currently just gaind 10 lbs. I been doing this for the past 2 months of ganing and losing. This band is a tool not a cure me. I love this band it was the best thing I could have done for myself. I love the results. Everyday is a challenge. Some days I wish the band would do all the work. I come to realize that I am not one of the ones who can just cut back and the weight will come off. I HAVE TO WORKOUT!!! But thats okay I love to workout. (when I go lol). Okay let me tell you how it is living with the band. The surgery was not a walk in the park but I would do it all over again. I CAN STILL EAT EVERYTHING. THERE IS NOTHING I CAN'T EAT. Food gets stuck if I eat to fast. But I can't eat as much as I was able to before I was banded. And that is why I got the band. I laugh at the amount of food I eat now. (and my friends laugh also) The one thing I don't like about this band the 5/30 rule drinking 5 mins before you eat and 30 mins after you eat. I sometimes think oh I waited long enough after eating and think oh I can drink now and OUCH. Today I decided I was going to continue my journey on this site. I use this site to keep me going. I needed to do something different. I tried to write in a journal. That was not working for me. I need feed back!!

Hello all! My name is stelina and after research I have just decided to go through the VSG surgery. I came across this site and like the idea of meeting and talking to people that have gone through and/or are going through the same things I am. I am just beginning my journey and am in the stage of picking a surgeon. This decision was not made lightly. While trying not to set my expectations too high, I am hoping the weight loss will help with my chronic, CONSTANT pain. I have no problem mentally working out. Physically it's a different story unfortunately. I am in so much pain it's hard for me to even get out of bed let alone hit up the gym or even swim which is supposed to be a great low impact exercise for me. Yet it's just another activity that I love that I must add to the list of things I can no longer do. So here we are, beginning a journey with high hopes. I hope to be able to meet new people on here to share with, ask advice from, and hopefully be able to give something to in return. So there it is, a little about me and my first post of many while going through my journey to a better, healthier, happier me..... Hugs kisses and positive energy Lina

I am going to be banded on April 26 by Dr Alan Geiss 221 Jericho Turnpike Syosset, NY 11791. He has a meeting for people interested in being banded. You could attend and meet him and his staff. I actually gained a few pounds to make the insurance companys requirements. Good luck to you.

I seeking a qualified, reputable surgeon to perform my lapband surgery. I am a 37 year old woman, 5'4 and 200 pounds. I am 24 pounds short of the necessary weight for surgery. My weight effects my every waking moment, to the point where I do not want to leave my house. I am tired, sluggish and uncomfortable moving around. If anyone could help with a referral I would greatly appreciate it. I'm located in NYC but am willing to travel within the states. Thank you and congratulations to all who have changed their lives and happiness factor for the better with this proceudre.

My family has been thrilled with Dr. Michael Snyder in Denver. He did a band for my mother-in-law, a gastric sleeve for my FIL, is about to do a band for me and one for my husband. His statistics/results are fantastic, and he's very kind and supportive. I'm similar to you - 36 years old, 200 lbs at 5'6", and really sick of watching my life slowly close in because of my weight. I'm paying out-of-pocket for the surgery, $9,600 flat fee. Hope this helps.

Eat anything I want after ONE week of getting Lapband?
juliegeraci replied to Laurinda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you move to solids I would choose food that was gentle on your band like mushies for a couple weeks. Tuna/chicken salad, chili, cottage cheese, soups. Those kinds of food. Good luck and yes, you may gain a few lbs. -
Hi Anne! Welcome to LBT. Lots of awesome reading material here... much more stuff then you'll get form a surgeons office! got a question.. you only weight 104 pounds????

Anyone ever feel Anorexic with this band?
nina874 replied to TulipStar's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I kind of know where you are coming from here, I went through a 'dark time' in my life when everything else was out of control, so the only thing that I felt that I could control was my weight. I would go 3 or 4 days without eating anything as I thought of food as 'the enemy' - talk about a love/hate relationship. I think it is important for you to address these issues seperate from the band, I liked the feeling of control that it gave me to starve myself, when I did eat something I would beat myself up about it. In the end I had to resolve what was wrong in the rest of my life to understand how it was influencing my eating. I would be aware of those feelings and make the choice to eat something healthy, even if it is just a smoothie and some homemade veggie Soup and be happy that you made a healthy food choice, rather than fighting against eating at all. When I feel those demons rising again I remind myself that I have to be healthy if I want to stay in control, otherwise I will be on the yo-yo again! Good luck hon. Nina x -
I'm pissed! They killed off the Dog and the cute guy! I loved Denny! I was bawling like a baby last night when Izzie was lying in that hospital bed holding onto him! And how sweet was Alex?! I'm totally over Meredith and McDreamy, they need to either get over it or be together! She needs to gain some weight, she a stick figure! That show stresses me out! But I love it! Two hours on Desperate Housewifes this Sunday... I can't wait!

Probably The Most Stupid Question Ever But...
cludgie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi folks, I'm intreagued as to how we all weigh in. Basically I am longing to get to the 6 stone loss marker, and this morning my scale is flickering between that weight, and two tenths of a pound over that weight. So I want to Celebrate, but feel a bit of a cheat. My question is do you guys A: Count the lowest weight if thr scale can't quite decide, or B: Wait until it is official and a bit more weight has dropped? Ta x -
Much of it depends on how compliant you are with your food intake. Some people think they can eat just like they always did...just eat less. Don't believe it! And even if you could you would not be improving your health, and that should be what it's all about. Now......if you are compliant and if you move your body you can probably average 1-2 lbs a week. I lost 160 lbs in 18 months....I've slowed down since then....in fact, I'm stuck, but I know it's temporary and I will keep on plugging. The average person loses 65% of their excess weight; so far, I've lost 75%. I keep asking myself, "Why be average? Why not 100%?" so I'm going to continue to work toward my goal and eat right. But even if I never lose another pound, it's all right.....wls has saved my life and improved the quality of my life so much it has all been worth it. I'm happy for you that you are ready to do something about your weight problem while you are young and you can enjoy your kids.....and they can enjoy having a healthy, active mom. Best wishes to you, sweetie.

Probably The Most Stupid Question Ever But...
SKCUNNINGHAM replied to cludgie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh on an analog, not digital scale - so mine isn't nearly as precise as yours, Cludgie. I count the victory when the desired weight shows up two days in a row. -

I'm sure that in general it's true that the more one has to lose the faster it comes off. You don't hear of people who only have 70 or so pounds to take off losing 30 in the first month, but people who have 150 or more may indeed lose that quickly in short bursts. But that's just nature at work, and perfectly understandable. As for how much weight "we" lose each month, that's a function of too many variables to say. The desired rate of loss is 4-10 lbs a month.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear this! I guess the questions to ask are: 1. Have you had any fills? 2. Are you exercising? 3. Are you drinking at least 64oz of Water a day? 4. Are you focusing on Protein, then quality veggies first, then carbs IF you have room left? If you're doing all these things and not snacking in between, you may need to ask your doc for a referral to an endocrinologist as there are metabolic disorders that cause your body to hang onto weight. Can you give more information??
-
Until you have a fill (or two or three) you don't have a 'working' band....it's just been inserted. It can't do its job until hafter you begin getting some restriction. What you are experiencing is very typical, very normal. Just realx and let your body heal. When it's time, when you get a fill that can give you enough restriction, then the pounds will begin to fall off. And you will feel great! I understand about the 'small town' mentality. Ignorance abounds regarding weight loss surgery, doesn't it.

1cc on my first fill!!
JoiaRox replied to pocketsfullofsunshine125's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My advice? BE PATIENT. I'm up to 9cc in a 14cc band now, and it took 5 months and 5 fills to get there. Even though I was miserable with the earlier fills, frustrated that I could still eat anything and actually GAINED weight during months 2 and 3...I'm glad now that it was a progressive journey. I NOW have restriction and have been on a roller coaster of adjustments in the last week. But, going from "not" and "barely" to being "slightly" and "almost" restricted as the process went on helped my brain and my body adjust to eating lower calories. The bottom line is that your brain has to change too - making it a slower process that progressively eases you into the lifestyle change is worth it and, to me, the REASON I've been successful. -
Hi everyone - I have been lurking around this site for several months and decided to join. I had lap band surgery on Nov. 11, 2008. As of today I have lost 91 lbs. I know that my weight loss is a little above normal but I started out weighing 315 lbs. and now weigh 224. I still have a ways to go and enjoy all the encourgement I have seen on this board. Have a great day! Karen

The very best of luck to you. Obviously, the lap band was a great choice for you. You are truly ahead of the curve in terms of weight loss! It has to feel absolutely great! I too looked to the forum for quite awhile before I had the band put in. I guess I always came back to - what is it that makes people come to a forum? For me, it is seeing the issues that can arise and the little tidbits of information I pick up, understanding full well that every person's journey with the band is different. For many, it is support, guidance, online friendship and answers to the issues that may come up along the way. I keep in mind that not all "bandsters" are on forums and that many simply go by the advice of their physician. So do we get an accurate idea of how the band will really work for each of us from this forum? Maybe, maybe not. But it does really help to know there are others out there that have the same problems and concerns that we do.

YEE-HAW! I like the answers to those questions! My DH and I have a good sex life----but I am the one who feels really uncomfortable when he feels all my rolls of fat---and that turns into feeling disgusted with myself and that then turns me off!:cry I'm hoping that losing weight with the band will bring back my inner nympho!:Banane27: Thanks all!

Hi all I have been in the low 80kg for so long, I tend to forget to weigh myself. Then this weekend, I weighed myself and I am not longer in the 80kgs. I am now 79.9kg which is worth celebrating! I will crack open the chips and the chocolate....oops no I won't I am really happy because that means I am less than 10kg away from my goal. It won't be easy as the last few months I have been in plateau a few times, but I think I have hit the sweet spot, and my weight may fall consistently (if slowly!). :crying::biggrin::wink2::biggrin::wub::biggrin::tt1::biggrin::tt1: <==== happy happy me!

Carbs are the only things that were satisfying for me during this first trimester...I eat cereal, oatmeal, 1/2 bagel with cream cheese(basically baby only likes breakfast). When I try to eat high protein low carb, I feel awful! I am 12wks now and have stayed the exact same weight (to the tenth of a lb even) since finding out I was pregnant.
